With the explosion of the maker movement, schools are beginning to embrace creativity. However, what does this mean for assessment? Should we assess the creative process? Should we assess the finished product? Does assessing creativity actually make kids more risk-averse? In this workshop we explore what it means to assess both the creative process and the creative product without leading to risk aversion.

2. Originally when I designed my first double paged spread the top
five documentaries section looked boring too big and out of
place, when I received peer and teacher feedback on how my
double page spread looked, this issue was reverberated and I was
encouraged to display this part of my double paged spread
differently. I thought about how I could display my idea a bit
better in order for them to look more aesthetically appealing so I
came up with the idea about displaying the top five
documentaries in the shape of a TV.
I began a new document in
Photoshop so that I could
start to create the TV shape.
The page measurements
were set to A4 and I chose a
transparent background
because its what I prefer to
work on.
3. My first step was to create the main outline of the TV using the rounded
rectangle tool.
4. The next thing I wanted
to do was to make the
top part of the TV to
make it more like a
cartoon version of an
old TV. I did this by using
the Ellipse tool which
created a semi circle.
Because I only wanted
half of the semi circle, I
zoomed in a lot and
used the rubber tool to
rub out the other half of
the semi circle
5. The next step was to add a
smaller rounded
rectangle on the inside of
the previous rectangle I
had already created this
created the inside of the
screen where my text was
going to go. I then
decided to add the
background, of my double
paged spread so that you
could see this through the
outline of the TV giving
me a better idea about
what the actual tv would
look like on my double
paged spread. I also
zoomed in and cropped
the image so that I had a
smaller work space.
6. I then started to
create the lines
that are on the
side of the TV
using the line
tool I then
duplicate this
four times to
create the
bottom bit of
the TV creating
the effect
shown on the
screen shot
below.
7. I then created the buttons for my
television. I did this by using the
round ellipse tool and then I
duplicated the layer four times so
that I had four buttons I then
moved each duplicated layer to a
new position creating the four
buttons.
This is my finished result.
