Tropical grasslands are found in hot, tropical areas between 18-30 degrees Celsius that experience distinct wet and dry seasons. They receive 50-120cm of annual rainfall concentrated in 6-8 months, followed by a long drought. The soil is porous with rapid drainage and a thin layer of humus. Tropical grasslands support a great diversity of herbivores and carnivores, and are dominated by 3-6 foot tall grasses with some drought-resistant trees. They are located near the equator in large areas of Africa, Australia, South America, and India. Threats include climate change, overgrazing, deforestation, and erosion.
