Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is a type cognitive therapy first used by Albert Ellis which focuses on resolving emotional and behavioral problems. The goal of the therapy is to change irrational beliefs to more rational ones.
REBT encourages a person to identify their general and irrational beliefs (e.g. I must be perfect") and subsequently persuades the person to challenge these false beliefs through reality testing.

In an ulterior transaction, two messages are conveyed at the same time. One of these is an overt or social level message. The other is a covert or psychological level message. Most often, the social level content is Adult-Adult. The psychological level messages are usually either Parent –Child or Child –Parent.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. Transactional analysis is a technique used to help people better
understand their own and other’s behaviour, especially in interpersonal
relationships.
It was introduced by Eric Berne.
It is a good method for understanding interpersonal behaviour.
It offers a model of personality and the dynamics of self and its
relationship to others that makes possible a clear and meaningful
discussion of behaviour.
INTRODUCTION
4. It is simple and logical.
It is objective.
It is effective.
It is predictive.
It is integrative.
It simulates the experience and commitment with
the present.
CHARACTERISTICS OF TA
6. The Transactional Analysis gives birth to several models that help in
explaining the relationship formed between the individuals as a result of
their interactions. It mainly involves-
Analysis of Self Awareness (Johari Window)
Structural Analysis (Ego States)
Analysis of Transactions
Script Analysis
Games Analysis
Analysis of Life Positions
Stroking
MODELS OF TA
7. The interpersonal relationships are composed of inter self. Self is the core of
personality pattern which provides integration. Self awareness is an important
concept, it describes the self in terms of image, both conscious and unconscious.
Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingham have developed a diagram to look at one’s
personality including behaviours and attitudes
that can be known and unknown to self and
known and unknown to others.
ANALYSIS OF SELF AWARENESS
OPEN
(known to others and
also self)
BLIND
(unknown to self but
known to others)
HIDDEN
(known to self but
unknown to others)
UNKNOWN
(unknown to self and
unknown to others)
8. Ego states are an important aspect of transactional analysis that talks about
person’s way of thinking, feeling and behaving at any time. According to
Dr. Eric Berne, people usually interact with each other in terms of three
psychological and behavioral patterns classified as parent ego, adult ego and
child ego often called PAC model.
1. Parent ego state: The parent ego state means that the values, attitudes and
behaviours of parents an integral part of the personality of an individual.
These people tend to talk to people and treat others like children. The
characteristics of a person with parent ego state are judgemental, rule
maker, moralising, over protective and indispensable.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
Continued….
9. 2. Adult ego state: The adult ego state is authentic, direct, reality
based, fact seeking and problem solving. They assume that human
beings as equal, worthy and responsible. The process of adult ego
state formation goes through one’s own experiences and continuously
updating attitudes left over from childhood. People with adult ego
state, gather relevant information, carefully analyse it, generate
alternatives and make logical choices.
3. Child ego state: the child ego state is characterized by very
immature behaviour. The important features of child ego state are
creativity, anxiety, depression, dependence, fear, joy, emotional
sentimental etc.
STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
10. The interactions between people give rise to Social
Transactions, i.e. how people respond and interact
with each other depends on their ego states. The
transactions routed through ego states of person
can be classified as complementary, crossed and
ulterior.
1. Complementary transactions: In this transaction
person sending the message gets predicted response
from the other person. Both people are operating
from the same ego state. There can be nine
complementary transactions.
ANALYSIS OF TRANSACTIONS
11. 2. Crossed transactions: A crossed transaction is one in which the sender sends
message a behaviour on the basis of his ego state, but this message is reacted to
by an unexpected ego state on the part of the receiver.
3. Ulterior transactions: This is most complex transaction. There are two ego states
within the same person but one disguises the other one.
ANALYSIS OF TRANSACTIONS
12. In transactional analysis a person’s life is compared to a play and the script is the
text of the play. According to Eric Berne,” a script is an ongoing programme,
developed in early childhood under parental influence which directs the individual
behaviour in the most important aspects of his life.
A script is a complete plan of living, offering prescriptions, permissions and
structure which makes one winner or loser in life.
Whenever an individual face any situation, he acts with reference to the script
created as a result of past experiences and the way he views his life positions, i.e.
I am OK, you are OK; I am not OK, you are OK; I am OK, you are not OK; I
am not OK, you are not OK.
SCRIPT ANALYSIS
13. When people fail to get enough strokes at work they try a variety of things. One
of the most important thing is that they play psychological games.
A psychological game is a set of transaction with three characteristics:
One or more transactions is ulterior.
They make sense on superficial or social level.
The transaction tend to be repeated.
Types of games
A first degree game is one which is socially acceptable in the agent’s circle.
A second degree game is one which more intimate end up with bad feelings.
A third degree game is one which usually involve physical injury.
GAMES ANALYSIS
14. The life position refers to the specific behaviour towards others that an
individual learns on the basis of certain assumptions made very early in the life.
The life positions can be categorized as follows:
I am OK, You are OK- An Individual has several
OK experiences with others.
I am OK, You are not OK- An individual believes
that he is right and all others around him are wrong.
I am not OK, You are OK- An individual feels that
others do things better than him.
I am not OK, You are not OK- Created by those who lacks interest in living.
ANALYSIS OF LIFE POSITIONS
15. Stroking is an important aspects of the transactional analysis. The term stroke
refers to “giving some kind of recognition to others.”
People need strokes for their sense of survival and well being on the job. Lack of
stroking can have negative consequences both on physiological and psychological
well being of a person. There are three types of strokes:
1. Positive strokes: the stroke one feel good, is a positive stroke. Recognition,
approval are some of the examples.
2. Negative strokes: a stroke one feel bad or not good is a negative stroke.
negative strokes hurt physically or psychologically.
3. Mixed strokes: a stroke may be of a mixed type also. Example :the boss
comment to a worker “you did an excellent job inspite your limited experience.
STROKING
16. It is frequently applied in the areas of medicine, communications, education and
business management as well as therapy.
The mainstream appeal of this technique has attracted parents, professionals,
social workers and others who strive to achieve maximum personal development.
It is considered to be one effective method of enhancing relationships with oneself
and with others.
It is often used by counselors and clinicians to address issues currently faced by
the person in treatment.
It is widely used in the educational arena and this method can serve as a vessel
through which educational principles and philosophy can be incorporated into the
daily lives of students.
BENEFITS OF TA
17. Transactional analysis is the study of social transaction between people.
The classification of parent, adult and child ego states is one useful approach.
It is essentially a learning experience through an individual discovers how to
sort out the data that goes into his decisions.
This approach is useful to improve the interpersonal communication in
organization and in social life.
I am OK, You are OK life positions shows acceptance of self and others.
CONCLUSION
