Drug Testing In Schools
Drug Testing in Schools Drug testing in schools is a very controversial issue with strong opponents
and proponents. The controversy comes down to legality, safety, and privacy, with both sides of the
argument having different perspectives on each. Drug testing for schools is a fairly recent
development in the educational system, supposedly aimed at fighting an evolving drug problem in the
United States. One side of the argument concludes that random drug testing is harmful, infringes on
students rights, and is ineffective at solving the drug problem. The first large scale national study on
student drug testing found no difference in schools that have drug testing programs and those that do
not (Appel). Side A claims that drug testing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has been a topic that has only been recently discussed, with many concerns being raised about the
application of these programs, or not having them at all. Overall, the main goal of this proposal is to
come up with a plan that both satisfies the need for a drug testing program, and alleviates the concerns
of those who are wary of drug testing for the reasons of legality and effectiveness. In order to solve the
drug problem, there must be compromise in order to further our understanding of the issue at hand,
and this proposed solution allows for compromise that all can agree on. Works Cited Appel, Judith, et

Argentina Case Study
COUNTRY OVERVIEW
Argentina is located in the southern part of South America. It is mostly a lowland country with
expansive lush, well watered level plains, known as the pampas. This country is the second largest
country in South America, and it s shaped like a wedge with the point towards the south. In 2005, the
population was almost 39 million people. About 25% of the population was under the age of 15. The
climate is generally temperate, but due to the size, it varies a lot due to the region that you are in. For
example, there is a 120 degree (F) high in the north of the country, while the lowest recorded
temperature in the south was 3 degrees (F)

Identity And Identity In Alice Walker s Everyday Use
HOW DOES ONE DEFINE ONE S HERITAGE
It has been said that One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be,
rather than being yourself. What should matter is being true to oneself and loving the person that you
have become. This short story is narrated by Mama who is telling her story of her two daughters, Dee
and Maggie. Both daughters live their lives in very different ways. In Dee s case, she goes out to make
all that she can of herself while leaving her mother and sister behind. Maggie stays at home with their
Mama and makes the most out of what surrounds her. All three ladies have different perspectives of
their own heritage and identity. The conflict in Everyday Use is that Mama has these two daughters
fighting over a quilt. In the end, readers will find that what matters most is not forgetting where you
come from and who you are as a person. In Everyday Use Alice Walker emphasizes to her readers the
importance of self identities and family through her use of conflict, setting, and characterization,
suggesting that sometimes people are so motivated in pleasing others while neglecting the things that
matter to them the most.
One s heritage and identity should not be separated from one s everyday life. The Everyday Use story
takes place in the late 1960s in the southern regions of America during the time when African
Americans were fighting for their identity and to preserve whatever heritage they have. According to
the statement that Mama made, colored asked fewer questions then than they do now . In the yard,
Mama awaits her daughter s return. The theme setting plays an important role in this story because of
Dee, the eldest daughter chooses to leave the place where she had grown up because she believes that
nothing will become of her if she stays in her home town. She chooses to leave home and get an
education while her sister Maggie stays home and is looked down upon by her sister because she
chose to stay at home. According to Mama, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people
know. It is not just a yard. It is an extended living room. 1 The yard and the comparison to the living
room are very clear that one think of one s living room as a

Achieved Statuses In Sports
Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! I roll over and shut off my alarm. My body aches from the lack of sleep and
yesterday s workout. I threw on my gym clothes and headed out the door. There was work to be done.
Almost everyone belongs to some particular group and claims an achieved status. An achieved status
is a status that is earned or chose. One of my achieved statuses is baseball. Being on the baseball team,
or any club in that matter, requires a big time commitment and a lot is expected. My role or what is
expected of me is weights, and keeping the required skills for baseball throughout the Fall and Winter
are required. When the season rolls around, my coach expects that I make the routine plays and hit the
ball hard the entire length of the season. My role performance or the things I actually do for this role
are both strength and baseball workouts to keep in shape during the off season. I do my best to hit the
ball and make the routine plays but baseball is a game of failure and things do not always work out. I
have also experienced role conflict in baseball. Role conflict is when a person is supposed to play two
incompatible roles. Our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An ascribed status is a status that is already given or one that is already had. One of my ascribed
statuses is being a brother. I had no control over spending my life with my sister Raigan. It was
between my parents and God. Being a brother comes with great responsibility. I am expected to keep
her safe and away from boys. Also, I have to be there for her when she needs to talk and it is too
private and girly for my parents ears. I perform my role by having long talks with her when she needs
them and I do not get my parents involved. Also, being in high school, stuff spreads like a wildfire and
eventually everyone finds out. My sister is getting more involved with dating and boys and I have to

Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen
In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as it would have been
in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The
prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on
the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this
poem differs and relates to the high school environment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections
between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal
experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school
environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in
crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak
in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used
to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls
said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways
glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that
spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls
sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement

Men s Health Magazine Analysis Essay
The target audience for Men s Health magazine has always been perceived as the stereotypical man s
man. The weight lifter, the health nut, or perhaps just the thirty to forty five year old father of two
attempting to fight back the hands of time and look younger just a little bit longer. This is no longer
the case as the social climate has begun to change over the last few years however, the magazine is
beginning to recognize that it s readership is made up of a much more diverse and not so cookie cutter
audience. A very specific example of that can be found inside the June, 2017 issue of Men s Health
magazine displayed in a two full page advertisement for a website geared towards the sexual health of
gay men. Specifically, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

associated with a relationship of any type. Proper types of protection for yourself and your partner are
referenced as well as ice breakers to discuss various topics that would be difficult to address early on
in any sexually active relationship. The most impressive message associated with them is the message
at the bottom that reads and talk to a healthcare provider . It seems only a normal evolution that as
social acceptance surrounding couples of every makeup would lead to a more open and honest
discussion about their sexual interactions and how to stay healthy and active at the same time. We
have been observing messages of this type since high school for the last 30 years, but only geared
towards the more conventional ideas about sex and relationships. It is reasonable to assume that the
target audience for this message is the gay community. The individual models do not appear any
different than any other person you might encounter in the street or the subway or the local
supermarket. The scenes are depicted so normally to send a very important message about how normal
a concept it should be to seek medical advice concerning your health whether you are gay or straight.
The body posture and poses are very casual only enhancing the message that conversations with

Fast Plants and Mendel s Theories of Inheritance
Abstract
The Brassica rapa is a fast plant known as the field mustard. This plant is well known for its rapid
growing rate, which makes it an easy breeding cycle and easy to pollinate. In giving so this makes
Brassica rapa a great participant for testing Gregor Mendel s theories of inheritance. The Brassica rapa
acts like a test subject in testing cross pollination giving the understanding to the dominant allele of
colored stems. There are different colors that are visible on the stem that are above the soil; the colors
vary from green to purple. P1 seed was ordered, germinated and cross pollinated until germination of

Add three seeds to the potting mix and cover seeds with little remaining potting mix. After the
addition of the potting mix, use a dropper filled with water and water each cell until water drips from
the wick. Then place the quads on a watering tray under the fluorescent light bank. Each cell should
have an equal distance from the light bank. Quads should be three inches below the fluorescent light;
the light should also be left on all day. Make sure all wicks are in contact with the mat that sits on the
watering tray. Also watch out for the watering system regularly throughout the experiment. After four
to five days record plants in the quads, giving their phenotypes in a table for each cell removed all but
the strongest plant. At about day 14, two or three flowers open on most plants in which one begins
pollinating as followed. Simply use a small fine tipped paintbrush and cross pollinate all four plants
with each other. Repeat the same step, in four days going. After the third pollination carefully remove
all unopened buds by pinching them. Take away all new buds for the next two weeks or as necessary.
Seeds are now ready to harvest after about 21 days after pollination. Carry the quads with plants away
from the watering try while letting them dry for five days. Remove dried seedpods from the quads and
roll them between your fingers to free the seeds from the pod. Count and store seeds in an envelope,

Lord Of Flies By William Golding
In the Lord of flies by William Golding, the theme of civilization vs. Savagery is explored. When a
bunch of children are stranded on an island, the conflict between savagery and the rules of civilization
begins to split the boys into two groups. Throughout the novel, the conflict is exaggerated by the two
main characters, Ralph and Jack. While Ralph uses his abilities to control the kids and be civilized on
the island. Jack lets his impulses get to him and creates a group of which act like savages. In the novel,
the boys struggle to act civilized and follow certain rules. Golding shows how different children
follow their instincts of civilization and savagery to different degrees. The Lord of the Flies mainly
represents the conflict ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, it says If I blow the conch and they don t come back. And another thing we can t have
everybody talking at once. We ll have to have hands up like at school. When everyone puts their hands
up to use the conch it shows that they are still maintaining their civil ways on the island to try to
handle the hard situation they are stuck in. Although, the conch was also used for power by the
antagonist Jack who showed his savage side when trying to get ahold of the conch. Instead of being
civil enough to ask Ralph to use the conch and stick with the rules, Jack used his own group to try to
do anything possible to kill Ralph. His savage instincts and human impulses got in his way and
overpowered his civility. The conch shell is a powerful marker of democratic order on the island. As
the conflict between Ralph and Jack deepens, the conch shell reduces in symbolic importance. Jack
declares that the conch is meaningless as a symbol of authority and order. Due to this, its decline in
importance signals the decline of civilization on the island and overcome by savagery.
Another way the theme is portrayed in the novel is by the killing of the pig. When the boys first see
the pig, Jack gets hesitant to kill the pig because he was scared of killing the pig and seeing the blood.
In the book, it says, they knew very well why he hadn t: because of the enormity of the knife
descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood .

Abstract
This study was undertaken to develop an understanding of bacterial transformation by plasmid DNA.
This study enables one to observe various traits displayed by transformed bacterial cells. Four
experiments were conducted that included (1) Bacterial Transformation, (2) Genomic/Plasmid
extraction, (3) DNA Electrophoresis, and(4) Plasmid /Oxidation EMSA. In this study, a transformation
of the strain Escherichia coli also known as E. coli will be examined with a special plasmid called
pGLO. This study was done to prepare the plasmid into a bacterium and use it to make large quantities
by amplifying it. By allowing RNA ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The genetic material that is being incorporated into is the bacterial plasmid
In genetic transformation, DNA genes of one organism are added to another organism. The DNA that
has been transmitted to the new recipient of the genetic material is then expressed and continued
(Holmes et al. 1996). By doing this, large quantities of preferable genes can be made. The process of
transformation can be done naturally or artificially. Escherichia coli is a common bacterium this is
single celled allowing the process for plasmid exchange to not be difficult. The bacterium produces
clones allowing the DNA to not be mixed.
A plasmid is a circular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecule that is able to replicate itself of the
bacterial chromosome and is often the gateway for which a bacteria is able to gain resistant to an
antibiotic. Plasmid contains the promoter of the arabinose operon called PBAD, which is a functioning
unit of genomic DNA containing a collection of genes under the control of a single promoter. The
genes are copied into RNA together into an mRNA strand to encode a single gene product.
The plasmid DNA will be used integrated into the genome of the E. coli bacteria. To generate the
effects of the plasmids and transformation, the

Major companies include Con Way, JB Hunt, Schneider National, Swift transportation, and YRC
Worldwide. Most employees in the truck transportation and warehousing industry work in small
establishments. Fewer than 5 workers are employed by 62 percent of trucking and warehousing
establishments. Consolidation in the industry has reduced the number of small, specialized firms.
Trucking and warehousing establishments are found throughout the United States. The differential in
growth between the freight industry and the trucking industry could be the factor that pushes trucking
vacancies. The trucking industry has a current growth rate of 1%, while the freight industry is seeing a
4% growth rate. In addition, federal safety regulations are limiting the work hours for truck drivers,
which results in more employees needed by trucking companies. The combination of all these things
compiled the cost of diesel, spells out higher overall costs for every single trucking company in the
industry. The growth of the freight industry and superior efficiency of railroads will lead to an even
slower growth rate for the trucking industry and could be a cause for more concern as the trend
continues.

Essay On Critical Reflection
Part one: Critical Reflection on your team as whole
I believe our group has struggled from the very beginning with being organized. I think some of the
difficulties started with the team strategic plan. The team would have benefited more, from an outline
of information that would be presented during the final speech (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think
our organization was lacking the first day we met to work on the team strategic plan. We all pushed off
the meeting because we thought we had more time and as the due date approached we quickly met up
to discuss what needed to be in the strategic plan. Then asked everyone to work on it on their own
time. I don t think this was the most beneficial way to divide tasks. We should have spent more time
doing group work, and not assigned as much individual work (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think
we should have used part of the designated meeting times to do group work, that would have been the
most beneficial for our group due to all members of the group having so much going on outside of the
project, that the time would have allowed each of us to have a required/designated time to work on the
project. Allowing for us to get more done, earlier on. I think the anticipation of some members to get
the team strategic plan done also caused them to take on too much responsibility which affected their
stress level and in return affect their quality of work. Also causing us to get a lower grade due to other

Few men would want or allow their micturition times to be recorded, even for science. If ramifications
come up that the participants do not like, then one of our researchers will have to discard those
ramifications for the sake of the participant.
Some other problems that our researchers could encounter while going through this experiment could
include vocal agitation, harmful behavior, or even a legal threat from the participants. I do understand
that precautions will be taken into consideration and thought through. But the right participant and
right circumstance could bring harm, (physical, verbal, or legal) to any member of our research team,
our students, or our school itself. Our researchers (and school) could also encounter problems with the
APA if the experiment coincides with any violations of the ethical code or their standards (examples
given in above paragraph). If any problems with the APA occur, legal actions could be taken against
our school and board.
Any changes that are made should be made in direct accordance to the ethical codes and standards of
the APA and our IRB here at Greenville Technical College. In my opinion, I would reconsider this
experiment because of all of the violations that would occur if it takes place. As researchers for
science, we cannot allow participants to feel as if they are being forced into doing something they
would not like, therefore we have to rethink our choice of experiment for the

The Great Depression in Alex Kershaw s The Bedford Boys
Bedford Boys 1. How did the Great Depression affect the town of Bedford before the war? What
programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many of the
men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United States of
America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many others. Bedford, in
the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily based upon agriculture. One
family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the people who were financially
destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often foreclosed on lands which had
been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores of people homeless and without
employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was possible to make ends meet. One man,
Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst years of the Depression through supplying
vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford
(Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and took whatever jobs were available. People s
pride and vanity soon vanished when it became apparent that the alternative was starvation and
destitution. With the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the implementation of the New
Deal works projects, things became better for many people in Bedford and throughout the nation. One

Essay about Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Introduction:
The measures taken by Castro and explicitly stated by him at his trial in 1954, from the very beginning
of his anti Batista movement illustrate his initial desires to reform Cuba and ultimately increase its
standard of living. Different understandings can be perceived by reading various books and documents
that focus on the political changes shaping Cuba s modern day society. Each illustrates different
aspects of the insurrection while simultaneously giving the reader an accurate depiction of the
historical occurrences. Authors Perez Stable and Patterson focus on the turbulent circumstances that

Because of Cuba s reliance on the export of sugar, Cubans were severely limited in terms of
diversifying its economy and raising its standard of living. According to Perez Stable,
Without diversification, jobs would not be createdand living standards raised...Moving Cuba from
classic dependence on sugar to a new form of dependent capitalism, however, required a realignment
of domestic actors, a new role for the state, and a restructuring of Cuba U.S. relations.
These issues appear as reoccurring themes that build the platforms for many of the reforms sought by
Castro himself. This is because these issues address the focal points of concern for most Cuban
citizens.
The second chapter in Perez Stable s book deals more with the political transitions that shaped Cuba s
societal structure during the turbulent early 1900 s. Corruption and problems with the governmental
structure coincided with the economic crises. Many Cubans fostered anti American sentiments and
regarded the Platt Amendment with much contempt. These feelings arose in part because, Application
of the Platt Amendment was a blatant reminder of the limits of Cuban independence. During these
occurrences, the U.S. vacillated between mediating the Cuban crises and relinquishing ties to the
Cuban government. This stemmed in part from the avid anti American sentiments

The Prices Of Nap Mats
Price::

more.
Size Most nap mats measure19 inches by 45 inches, and is folded to15 inches by 19 inches when
being stored. Larger sizes will definitely cost more that smaller sizes of the same brand. Just be sure to
pick the right size based on your baby s body size and age.

Construction and Design::
Nap mats are made from an assortment of materials types and the filling is done mainly with polyester
batting. Just like you ll buy baby blankets and pillows, size, color, surface materials are all design
features you ll want to look at. Here is our analysis of nap mat construction and design features:
Color
The first thing you look at when shopping for a nap mat is its color. Look for a solid, neutral color
ranging from soft hue to vogue. The idea is to find a soothing, calming, and inviting color. Nowadays
you can find an assortment of patterns like Spiderman, dinosaurs, monsters, as well as Sponge Bob
Square Pants. However, it will depend on the likes of your child. For some kids, such patterns may be
distracting, if not scary.
Surface Material
Most cheap nap mats are made from vinyl which may cause your little one to sweat and wake up
smelly and exhausted. Choose a mat with breathable pure cotton cover that can be easily detached for
washing. It may cost a little more, but it s worth the extra bucks.

Many states now have laws that do not allow the parents to opt out of the class, regardless of how they
feel about their child being taught, these things ( Contemporary Education Issues | K12 Academics,

Sexual Education suggests to deliver the knowledge, standards and procedures that allow the
implementation of human rights, the satisfactory enactment in our personal lives, inspire a thoughtful
change in civic values, ethical attitudes, and active oppositions which arouse the personal
development and social combination of pre teenagers and teenagers, and subsequently prevent the
transmission of HIV, undesirable pregnancies, and sexual violence. In general it must breakdown all
the ties between stereotypes and mythologies about sexuality.
The roles of government, and all the programs that have been launched, promote a good quality sexual
education. They do not only teach contraception methods, but encourage the student to be educated
and not be sexually active. They can provide information that can be extremely important for the
future of the youth in our country.
These programs are thought to promote values and handle concerns everyone should

Niemann Pick Disease
What is Niemann Pick Disease?
Niemann Pick disease is a genetic condition that is divided into four main types, however this
information brochure focuses mainly on type C1 (NP C1). This condition is inherited in an autosomal
recessive pattern, meaning two copies of the abnormal gene must be present in order for the disease to
develop.
NP C1 develops as a result of mutations in the NPC1 gene, located on chromosome 18 at position
11.2. The NPC1 gene is involved in the production of proteins that are located within the membrane of
compartments within the cell. As a result of the mutation, affected individuals are not able to
breakdown cholesterol and other lipids, leading to their accumulation in cells, causing a buildup of fat

inability to move eyes up and down (vertical supranucler gaze palsy)
poor muscle tone (dystonia)

worsen over time, eventually interfering with feeding. Those who show symptoms after entering
school may survive into adulthood although will experience a progressive decline in intellectual
function and may be affected by seizures. The average life expectancy of those affected by the
childhood onset form is 5 15 years of age.
Testing and Treatment
To test for type C1, a skin biopsy in normally completed to observe the movement and storage of
cholesterol. This is done by taking a small piece of skin and growing the cells in a laboratory. A
diagnosis can also be made through DNA analysis to identify the presence of mutations. This can be
done quite simply through a blood test.
Pre Natal testing is also available, where cells are taken from the amniotic fluid between 15 and 20

Imperialism Hong Kong
20 January 1841, Hong Kong, a Chinese archipelago mainly inhabited by fishers and smugglers, was
occupied by the British Empire during the first opium war against the Chinese
Qing Empire. On 29 August 1842 the war ended with the Treaty of Nanjing, which included an
obligation that China approved the island of Hong Kong as a crown colony of Great
Britain. Further conflicts escalated into the second opium war, which resulted in peace in
1860 with the signing of the Convention of Beijing. One of the paragraphs in the convention included
that the peninsula of Kowloon also became a part of the Crown colony. In 1898 the
Qing dynasty agreed to a 99 year lease to Great Britain of the Lantau Island and another

becoming the world s 8 th largest trade nation, 8th largest stock market, 5th largest banking center and

(Larsson, 1997).
Many argue that this astonishing achievement is due to Hong Kong s laissez faire approach to
economic policies with low taxes, low customs duties, free trade, free capital movements and a fairly
liberal immigration policy. Many wondered how Hong Kong could ever be able to be ruled by China
again, a country with a considered completely different approach to economic policies. Over the years,
Hong Kong has been considered the door to China , meaning that many goods and services targeted to
the mainland Chinese market was traded via Hong Kong
(Larsson, 1997). Would Hong Kong s role as a door to China strengthen with the liberation?
Would the closer ties to the Chinese communist party have a bad influence on Hong Kong s laissez
faire concept? These where some of the big questions before the liberation. How did it end up? We are
in this paper about to investigate some of the details.

Time In The Play Our Town
If a book were to tell someone s life, how could you tell if it was the next day or the next year?
Usually authors have different strategies to give readers an idea of how much time has passed.
However, this is especially harder in plays because the perception of time to readers is mainly
dependent on the verbal script of the characters. In the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder, his usage
of the concept of time is incorporated by major life events such as their life as children, the wedding
and a funeral with the help of the stage manager and the title of the acts.
To begin with the play is essentially about the lives of two neighboring families, the title of the first
act Daily lives is appropriate and telling of the beginning of the play. In the beginning of Act one it
basically introduces the readers to the characters . The families are getting their kids ready for school
and the mothers meet with each other. The use of school and their morning routine ... Show more

The major life events are summed up that way because that s what life in the town consisted of
growing up, getting married then die. The play on time by the author truly shows how many take their
time alive for granted and how quickly it goes by. Such as when she chose to relive a day and she
noticed how everyone wasn t really taking everything in and enjoying themselves. The stage manager
was the key tool in translating the authors perspective of time to the readers and the acts being few
kind of shows how quickly and empty her life was. In a nutshell she was just a young girl, then got
married and died. The message I personally got from the play was to live life to the fullest because I
personally wouldn t want three relatively short acts to describe my life from start to

A Critical Analysis Of The Theory Of Endosymbiosis And It...
A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence
Abstract
Introduction
The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from
Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes,
suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken
into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from
proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have
entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The
primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive
mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the
host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a
symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell.
The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a
biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory.
Primary Endosymbiosis vs. Secondary Endosymbiosis
Primary endosymbiosis involves the engulfment of a bacterium by another

We Must Educate Ourselves Before Passing Laws Restricting...
Biotechnology and genetic engineering involve the cloning of animal cells and organisms, but they
also involve the alteration of an organism in an effort to make it more perfect, whether it is a crop, an
animal, or even a human being. Obviously the cloning of humans or the cloning of human cells is
much different than the cloning of genetically superior livestock or a better quality, higher yielding
food crop, and people throughout the world realize this. The cloning of human beings has become one
of the worst fears in our society today and for that reason many laws have been passed throughout
European countries and North America in an effort to ban human cloning. For most people, it becomes
more of an issue of ethics and moral values ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as
nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in
which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new
nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg
becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the
genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent
organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further
research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to
produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells,
whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used
to create an exact replica of that creature.
In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was
developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells, which
happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each new cell
to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are

Statistics Is Making Sense Of Common Data And Knowing When...
In this paper, I will speak about what I would ve learned about statistics if I had an instructor that was
helpful and fostered the spread of education. Statistics is making sense of common data and knowing
when you use data analysis techniques, and formulas while making connections between them.
Statistics enables the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data.
According to David Hand (2016), One good working definition of statistics might be that it is the
technology of extracting meaning from data (p. 2). There are several elements that are instrumental in
the study statistics that will be discussed in this paper that include by are not limited to descriptive
statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical
tests and evaluating statistical results.
DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a
meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data. It implies a simple
quantitative summary of a dataset that has been collected, and aids statisticians and students in
understanding experiments or a data set in detail and tells about the required details that help put the
data in perspective. According to A. Santucci (2014), almost all research investigations involve
studying a sample of individuals randomly selected from a population with the goal of applying what
is learned from the sample to all the individuals who

A Lecture On International Sustainable Tourism
Triple Bottom Line
During a lecture in International Sustainable Tourism, we discussed the Triple Bottom Line or Triple
Bottom Line Reporting, which means expanding the traditional reporting framework to take into
account environmental and social performance in addition to financial performance. This framework
is becoming an accepted approach for organizations to demonstrate they have strategies for
Sustainable Growth. It focuses on decision making and reporting, which explicitly considers an
organization s economic, environmental and social performance. Triple Bottom Line focuses on
Stakeholders instead of Shareholders. A Stakeholder is a person, group, or organization who has an

Workers Rights. Right smack dab in the middle of the circle graph is Sustainability. When all three
pillars are in play, Sustainability happens.
Moving on, there are three set goal principals for the Triple Bottom Line and they all three relate back
to the three pillars. The goal for the Social pillar is to have Vibrant Communities, where an
organization has a responsibility to its employees and to the wider community in which it works. The
company understands how its practice affects the workers and strives to promote their best interests.
The goal for the Environmental pillar is a Healthy Environment by reducing the environmental
footprint. Finally, the goal for the Economic pillar is Profit. The Triple Bottom line recognizes that
business sustainability rests on social and environmental settings. The cost of pollution, worker
displaces, and other factors and is included into a profit calculation.

Chaelee Dalton Burnett Honors World Religions November 7 2014 The Evolving Relationship
Between the U.S. Government and the Mormon Church In 1844, Joseph Smith, ecclesiastical leader of
the Latter day Saints and presidential candidate, was murdered by an angry mob. This mob was
fostered by the release of a newspaper questioning Smith s practices (including polygamy),
qualifications, and intentions for his potential presidency. More than 150 years later, Mitt Romney, a
member of the LDS Church, launched a presidential campaign and garnered forty two percent of the
popular vote. Although these two candidates share a faith, their political roles and views are
substantially different. This is representative of the significant changes in the relationship between the
Mormon church and the U.S. government. A homegrown religion originating in the late 1820s,
Mormonism arose as a rejection of the existing Christian sects and a return to what the Mormons
considered to be pure Christianity. Similarly, the members believed their desire for a new kind of
government stemmed from their disillusionment with what they believed was a corrupt government
and a desire for the reestablishment of true American values and the original intent of the founding
fathers. This sentiment is epitomized by Joseph Smith s presidential platform, which states No honest
man can doubt for a moment, the glory of American liberty is on the wane; and that calamity and
confusion will sooner or later destroy the

Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth of England
Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth of England
Sixteenth century England experienced a phenomenon sometimes referred to as the Age of Queens.
The decisive power of the country was placed in women s hands and their reigns were watched with a
reasonable doubt. There is contrast of rule in terms of reigns between Queen Mary and Queen
Elizabeth of England, both of whom were engaged in a protracted struggle for the English throne.
Beside the legitimacy of their claims, there are more significant considerations which predestined
them to either increase or lose their power. The rule and attitudes of the two monarchs bore significant
influence upon the times in which they lived, including social, political and legal precedents which
were being challenged and in some cases reversed. The fact that both Queens encountered situations
of striking similarity, serves as a suitable example for a remarkable comparison, helping to analyze the
lives of the two Queens and how their lives diverged as a result of such encounters and their actions
thereafter. They were both Queens, struggling for the throne, they were women as well as rivals; they
both had affairs with married men, however, one managed a narrow escape from the disgraceful
situation, while the other failed to do so. Mary grew to hate Anne Boleyn, mother of Elizabeth,
because he took the position of her mother Catharine as Queen of England. Before Elizabeth came to
the scene, Mary was loved and was the only child of King Henry VIII of

Substance Abuse And Addiction
Based on our readings and my understanding some of the cause(s) of substance abuse and addiction
have many factors that can play a key role. For example our text book points out that some people
want to escape their reality, or numb their emotional pain. It can also be social pressure from peers or
our own upbringing (Doweiko 2015). I believe we as a society should look at the individual and not
just the problem. Looking at ones soul and finding the root cause why the person abuses or has
become addicted to a substance or substances is a very important start of the journey of sobriety. We
cannot brush off the fact somewhere the soul lacks something that the substance is fulfilling or once

Informative Speech On Neonatal Nurses
I. Raise your hand if you are a parent. To all the parents that raised their hands, think back to the time
you and your spouse were in the hospital room anxiously waiting for your unborn child to arrive. How
happy were you when the nurse placed your baby into your arms? That feeling of seeing your healthy
newborn baby for the first time is unexplainable, but how would you feel if your newborn was born
prematurely or had birth defects? II. The short staff of neonatal nurses has led to more than 23,000
American infants died in 2014, or about 6 for every 1,000 live births (Vital Record New). III. Twenty
one years ago, my parents received the devastating news that my lungs were not developing properly
and as a result my mom had an induced labor. I was born as a premature baby, weighing only 3 lbs.
and was placed in the care of neonatal nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for 18 days.
While my mom came to visit me, she would notice how well the nurses would care for me. Though
their jobs were tough, the nurses would often carry me while I was crying and would often talk me to
sleep, sometimes singing lullabies. IV. This situation has made me grateful to be alive since I was able
to be brought back to health due to these wonderful neonatal nurses who helped me recover, but not
many newborn babies are fortunate enough to survive just like me as newborn babies have died and
suffered due to the lack of supervision that neonatal nurses are incapable of providing. V. Today I will

and the impacts a sufficient number of neonatal nurses can cause in a baby s life. Let s begin by
explaining what neonatal nurses are. Body I. Neonatal nurses are registered nurses who are

Comparing Apple Vs Apple
The smartphone industry is a very up and coming place. In the US, more than 77% of adults own a
smartphone (Smith). There are many different kinds of smartphones. They can vary in shape, size,
color, and brand. Two of the largest brands of smartphone are Samsung and Apple. They make two of
the hottest phones on the market right now. Just recently Samsung made the Galaxy S8, and Apple
came out with the iPhone 8. Both phones are reported to be top of the line. Both being high end
devices have many similarities, but they also have differences that set them far apart from each other.
Let s start off with one big difference between these two phones, the camera. We re again treated to a
solitary 12 megapixel f/1.8 rear snapper... The Galaxy S8 comes with a 12 megapixel Dual Pixel rear
camera (Spendelow). The difference between the cameras here is that the Galaxy has a dual camera,
whereas the iPhone does not. The iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X do have the dual camera if you re
willing to spend the extra money. These two phones also have different camera resolution. The Galaxy
s camera resolution is 2960 x 1440 pixels, and the iPhones is 1334 x 750 pixels (Bushnell). Between
the two phones camera resolution, the Galaxy has the iPhone beat. The Samsung s front facing camera
is also a little bit better than the iPhone s. The iPhone s camera is 7 megapixels whereas the Samsungs
is 8 megapixels (Kidman). However, the iPhone has reportedly been seen with warmer colors, helping
with the contrast of pictures. Overall, the Samsung s dual rear camera and 8 megapixels front facing
camera has the iPhone beat. Another big difference between the two phones is the hardware and
internal specs. One main difference between these two phones is the two kinds of operating systems
they use. Samsung uses Android 7.1.1, and the iPhone uses iOS 11. Two separate systems tailored to
the devices needs. They both are top of the line operating systems and are the most up to date systems
you can use (Kidman). Both operating systems are fine tuned to the use of the consumer and are both
extremely customizable. The iPhone Has a 2GB RAM and uses the A11 Bionic processor, and the
Galaxy has a 4GB RAM and uses the octa core Exynos 8895 processor

other ideas regarding education such as their view of practice and theory and of free thinking. Their
works are among the most thought evoking.

There is indeed a difference between strictly learning theory and learning theory through practice. The
theory or ideas can be deposited in a person?s head and he or she is to put into action the unrefined
concepts. Freire is opposed to this ?Banking theory? (p. 357) because he feels that it is inhibiting to
the mind. In his mind, problem posing theory is the proper route, due to the fact that it actively
engages a person?s own ideas and personal thoughts and makes him analyze and question reality.
Freire classifies standard systems of education to be a banking system. This label is used in a literal
sense, in that Freire feels that a human brain is like a vault. In the banking system teachers deposit
information in the student and it is to be expected that the student will retain the information until a
withdrawal is requested, at which point the information will be regurgitated back in the same form that
it was put in, without any processing of the information. This idea assumes many things about the
teacher student relationship. Among these assumptions are that: the student begins education with a
clean slate, the teacher knows best or knows all and that the student has nothing to contribute to his
own education because he or she knows nothing. One other assumption in the banking system is that a
person is not considered to be a conscious being that interacts with others; he is considered to be a
spectator, not someone who is able to make

The Flight Path From Singapore
3.2 The Haversine formula
The haversine formula is an important equation in navigation, calculating the haversine of the central
angle between two points on a great circle of a sphere using the latitudes and the longitudes of the two
points: sin2 (d2r) = sin2 ( Φ2 Φ12) + cos (Φ1) cos (Φ2) sin2 ( λ2 λ12)
where Φ1 and Φ2 denote the latitudes of Singapore and Chicago respectively, and λ1 and λ2 denote
the longitudes of Singapore and Chicago respectively. We can rearrange the haversine formula to give
us the distance d between the two cities.
3.3 The Haversine function
In order to show how the haversine formula is derived, we must first understand the function of the
haversine. The term haversine appears to have originated from half a versed sine , or half a versine .
The haversine function is useful as it can calculate the distance of an arc of a great circle. The flight
path from Singapore to Chicago is, in fact, an arc of a great circle.
The versine function is one of many trigonometric functions that were once popular in fields such as
navigation, but now are practically obsolete and are no longer taught in schools. Commonly
abbreviated as versin, the versine function is versin (α) = 1 cos (α) where α is the variable in the
function. However, this does not seem very useful in the derivation of the haversine formula. We can
manipulate the versine function into a more useful substitution using the half angle identity sin2 (12α)
= [1 cos (α)] as sin2 (12α)

The Holy Spirit
The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have suggested,
however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit instead. Such a
conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit in Acts is completely
justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the Apostles , but that title could
equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the
American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to
other portions of the New Testament, the significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly
seen. The combined sixty eight chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to
the Holy Spirit. The combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s
longest letters, contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the
Holy Spirit in its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright,
Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesus to the apostles as their
power in Luke chapter 24, verse 49. Jesus can give the Spirit to his followers because he has received
the Spirit from the Father (chapter 3 verse 16). In the book of Acts, when the Spirit came on the Day
of Pentecost, he came as the Spirit of Christ, not just in the

eBags: Managing Growth
Case Study 5
Patrick Johnson, Amina Mirzohoshim, Frank Park, Raja Pattamatta, Rita Thakur
4/25/2011
Introduction: eBags, the online luggage and travel products store, started as a business idea by Jon
Nordmark in the spring of 1998. Nordmark convinced Peter and Eliot Cobb, Frank Steed, and Andy
Youngs to join his venture, using their collective industry knowledge from being top executives with
Samsonite USA and American Tourister. With a personal investment of $50k from each of them to
startup and $6.8M in funding early the following year from venture capitalists, such as Benchmark
Capital, they were able to launch eBags.com in March of 1999. With continued venture capital ...

Bags come in boxes that manufacturers use for shipping via small package delivery to a fragmented
base of retail customers. But shoes ship to retailers in bulk packaging rather than individual boxes (
(Laseter, Rabinovich, Huang, 2006)). So when companies like eBags use drop ship order process,
there is an additional shipping cost to the manufacturer to repackage shoes and ship shoes to the
customer. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate. Some customers
order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. Thus shoes carry a much
higher cost to serve and selling them online requires a different business model. A comparison of a
potential acquisition candidate for eBags in footwear, Shodeni, shows that the SKU count is very high
for shoes compared to luggage or bags and eBags should be extremely efficient if it has to handle that
high SKU. eBags should add call centers to handle calls from customers in addition to support through
the website. They should continue with the strategy of having manufacturers send the shipment
directly to the customer.
European Expansion:
The European market was considered to be just as highly fragmented as the US Market and luggage
retailers mainly consisted of small, family owned stores with many limitations. These stores didn t
meet the demands of many customers who were looking for a wider array of selection and styles. In
Europe,

Maimonides Influence On Jewish Law
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, Talmudist, Halachist, physician, philosopher and communal leader, known
to the world at large as Maimonides, is considered to be one of the most important figures in the
history of scholarship (Fackenheim 171). Maimonides foundations of knowledge continues to have a
large presence in the fields of medicine, Jewish law, religion, and most notably, philosophy.
Maimonides achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases, and
proposed cures. His 10 medical treatises show his humanism as a physician, and emphasis on
preventative medicine. Through his medical scholarship, he emphasizes the treatment of the whole
patient, mind and body, which allows a doctor to be a more effective physician, as well as a teacher of
well being. He pioneered descriptions of diseases such as hepatitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and asthma,
as well as many others, with remarkably modern treatment methods for his time. Maimonides was a
physician of whom modern medicine would be proud if he were alive today (Rosner). ... Show more

Prior to Maimonides, one would have to learn the entire Talmud to know Jewish law which is at times
indecisive and contains conflicting opinions. Maimonides indexed not only the Talmudic rulings, but
also written commentaries and oral law, and compile it in a logical and systematic fashion. He also
included Jewish traditions such as holidays, prayer, dietary laws, and the laws that regulate the Jew s
daily life. The Mishneh Torah remains the only work of this scope, that covers the entire corpus of

Mt Everest Research Paper
Standing at 8848m above sea level, Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is a
beautiful innocent looking mountain and its profile makes it out to be an easy climb. But because of its
height, there are many problems when facing the daunting task of reaching the summit; including,
death. Statistically, one out of every six climbers dies on each expedition up the side of mt. Everest.
More than any other. Not only is everest a pretty peak, it also is deadly. Along with the cold, there are
three true illnesses that could result in death on Everest. They are Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS),
High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE), and High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE). These three
illnesses are all associated with high altitude and

Behavioral Health Case Study
INTRODUCTION As most of my lot in life is true, I have had many encounters with the two agencies
in our community that can help enrich me with knowledge and arm me with tools to help my son.
Since I live in Italy, my resources are limited for help with ADHD and ODD. Although numbers are
rising at alarming rates in the United States, in Italy, these diagnosis are rare. Because these diagnoses
are rare occurrences for Italians, they lack in knowledge and resources to help the children and parents
affects by them. The two agencies in my military community of Caserma Ederle that I have found
most insightful and helpful are the behavioral health portion of our community clinic and the Army
Community Services (ACS), which has a few programs dedicated to the health and well being of the

Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples
Deafness and the Power of Signing
When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf
people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and again. It
is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of the time when
they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be overcome. The sign
for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger circling up by the forehead
instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it means. There is also a sign for the
reverse: some hearing people get so involved in the deaf community that they think they are deaf, ...

One of these elements is a heightened appreciation for the margins, for the periphery.
Symmetry
According to Ronnie Wilbur of Boston University, a strict Symmetry Condition exists for signs where
both hands move, they must have the same handshapes and both hands movements must be either
identical or in polar opposition to one another (1). Some symmetrical signs: family, group class place,
love, community. The deaf community is not a mirror image of the hearing world; ASL is not English
with the sound off.
Bring the fingertips of your right hand together. Touch the fingertips to your chin near your mouth,
then up further to the right, by your ear. Home is significant for so many deaf people, for the ones who
grew up in a hearing world, missing whole conversations, falling behind in school, acting as hearing
as they could. One deaf teacher told me she was sure, as a child, that when she turned eighteen she
would become hearing: she didn t know any deaf adults, so she just assumed they didn t exist. She
didn t know what sign language was. When she turned eighteen and was still deaf, she decided to go
to Gallaudet, the only deaf liberal arts college in the country. She said she couldn t really explain it to
me, I wouldn t really know, but she felt like she was finally home had finally found

Class Obervation on Reading Comprehension Skills
Class Observation and Report
I met the instructor before class to discuss overall goals as well as goals for that day s lesson. The
overall goal of the course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase math problem solving
skills, and develop a strong ability to combine the two and further discussion skills. The goal of that
day s lesson was to work on reading strategies: scanning, identifying main ideas, and understanding
details of different math word problems and equations. The instructor mentioned that there are only 10
people in the class and almost all of them are between the ages of 11 12. They are all at pretty much
the same reading level, although there is some slight variation. Specifically though, in her fourth
period class, one student had a tremendous difficulty in reading and understanding word problems and
them translating those words into numbers and equations.
In one activity the instructor starts the class by picking up one math assignment that was due and they
check three other math assignments together. All of the students call out the answers in unison. The
unit they had just ended was on integers and they were just beginning their unit on equations and
eventually into inequalities. Then she hands out flash cards with five discussion questions that pertain
to the topic of equations and inequalities, for example What do you think an equation is? and Why
would you ever need to use one? Students get into groups of two to discuss their

Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay
That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be getting a
decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay more for the
food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a tax on junk food
won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from overconsuming junk foods,
but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s something that s not going to
happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that smoking is taxed because it s pernicious
not only to the person concerned, but the society around them and even though smoking is taxed,
people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but
the number of people that smoke has decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the
government puts a tax on junk food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed.
The government needs to establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit
and vegetables and promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes
and obesity and the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will
mean that more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. At the moment junk food is
ludicrously cheap; you just have to go into your local supermarket to see that a bottle of

Metamorphosis Dilemma
Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis dramatises the concept of alienation and the conflict that arises
with his employer after Gregor s metamorphosis renders him unable to work. Gregor is the victim of a
dispassionate corporate structure, and is trapped in a job which engages only a minute portion of his
personality (Robertson, 57). However, despite his bodily transformation, Gregor remains emotionally
dependent on his role within the capitalist system, rather than recoiling in horror at the insect he has
become: What a fate, to be condemned to work for a firm where the smallest omission at once gave
rise to the gravest suspicion! Were all employees in a body nothing but scoundrels, was there not
among them one single loyal devoted man who...was so tormented by conscience...? (Kafka, 3)
Gregor s dilemma is that he serves the dual role as both a cog in a machine , and as his family s source
of income, and the despair and inconvenience of being trapped in his room heightens his vulnerability
as the chief clerk arrives to investigate the suspicous circumstance (Kafka, 3). Imprisoned by his job
and father s debts, Gregor is invalidated by the business that defines him and alienated by the insect
body that has consumed him. The constraints of Gregor s metamorphosis, as his little legs ...jiggled
about (Kafka, 3), echo the constraints of his employment, as he is severely restricted in his ability to

Drones In The United States
The use of drones has brought an uproarious debate among both the people of the United States and
the people of the world regarding whether or not drones should be sold and used by the public. Drones
were first created for military use to scout and attack terrorists who plan to bring havoc to the United
States of America. Ever since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, funding for the use of drones
sky rocketed because people came to the realization that there was a need to formulate different
methods of security and defense. Besides the use of security and defense, people have been
developing new uses for drones. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently issuing rules
outlining how they can be used. Ever since drones have hit the shelves for consumers to buy, more and

Trends in the climate suggest that the United States is receiving less and less water each year. Other
states such as California are suffering under drought conditions and need new methods to conserve
water. With the use of drones, farmers can view their fields from up above to determine whether crops
need water. These flying devices can help contribute to water conservation in the west and possibly
bring multiple states out of long periods of drought. Additionally, drones can be used to scout fields
for insect infestation and crop diseases. Crop farmers can evaluate the economic risk from the
potential effects from infestation. The use of drones can make it easier for crop farmers to diagnose
the issue so that they can prevent too much damage so that they can maintain a profit. Coordinates can
be marked where this issue is evolving from and pesticides, herbicides, and different methods of
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) can be applied to the area. Drones can contribute to crop farming
and scouting by reducing valuable resources and prevent production loss and

Explain The Three Categories Of Primary Source Material
List and describe the three categories of primary source material. In law research, according to Yell
(2016), Primary sources are actual statements of the law (p.14). Yell also mentions the three categories
of primary sources; laws or statues created by either federal or state legislatures and signed in to the
law, regulations promulgated by administrative agencies to implement the statues, and judicial
decisions the interpret that statutes and regulations (p. 14). Why are the annotated code versions of the
United State Code so useful? According to Yell (2016), federal statutes are organized by topic and
published in a series of volumes called the United Stated Code (U.S.C) (p.14). He also says that the

  • 2. Drug Testing In Schools Drug Testing in Schools Drug testing in schools is a very controversial issue with strong opponents and proponents. The controversy comes down to legality, safety, and privacy, with both sides of the argument having different perspectives on each. Drug testing for schools is a fairly recent development in the educational system, supposedly aimed at fighting an evolving drug problem in the United States. One side of the argument concludes that random drug testing is harmful, infringes on students rights, and is ineffective at solving the drug problem. The first large scale national study on student drug testing found no difference in schools that have drug testing programs and those that do not (Appel). Side A claims that drug testing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has been a topic that has only been recently discussed, with many concerns being raised about the application of these programs, or not having them at all. Overall, the main goal of this proposal is to come up with a plan that both satisfies the need for a drug testing program, and alleviates the concerns of those who are wary of drug testing for the reasons of legality and effectiveness. In order to solve the drug problem, there must be compromise in order to further our understanding of the issue at hand, and this proposed solution allows for compromise that all can agree on. • 4. Identity And Identity In Alice Walker s Everyday Use HOW DOES ONE DEFINE ONE S HERITAGE It has been said that One of the greatest regrets in life is being what others would want you to be, rather than being yourself. What should matter is being true to oneself and loving the person that you have become. This short story is narrated by Mama who is telling her story of her two daughters, Dee and Maggie. Both daughters live their lives in very different ways. In Dee s case, she goes out to make all that she can of herself while leaving her mother and sister behind. Maggie stays at home with their Mama and makes the most out of what surrounds her. All three ladies have different perspectives of their own heritage and identity. The conflict in Everyday Use is that Mama has these two daughters fighting over a quilt. In the end, readers will find that what matters most is not forgetting where you come from and who you are as a person. In Everyday Use Alice Walker emphasizes to her readers the importance of self identities and family through her use of conflict, setting, and characterization, suggesting that sometimes people are so motivated in pleasing others while neglecting the things that matter to them the most. One s heritage and identity should not be separated from one s everyday life. The Everyday Use story takes place in the late 1960s in the southern regions of America during the time when African Americans were fighting for their identity and to preserve whatever heritage they have. According to the statement that Mama made, colored asked fewer questions then than they do now . In the yard, Mama awaits her daughter s return. The theme setting plays an important role in this story because of Dee, the eldest daughter chooses to leave the place where she had grown up because she believes that nothing will become of her if she stays in her home town. She chooses to leave home and get an education while her sister Maggie stays home and is looked down upon by her sister because she chose to stay at home. According to Mama, A yard like this is more comfortable than most people know. It is not just a yard. It is an extended living room. 1 The yard and the comparison to the living room are very clear that one think of one s living room as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I threw on my gym clothes and headed out the door. There was work to be done. Almost everyone belongs to some particular group and claims an achieved status. An achieved status is a status that is earned or chose. One of my achieved statuses is baseball. Being on the baseball team, or any club in that matter, requires a big time commitment and a lot is expected. My role or what is expected of me is weights, and keeping the required skills for baseball throughout the Fall and Winter are required. When the season rolls around, my coach expects that I make the routine plays and hit the ball hard the entire length of the season. My role performance or the things I actually do for this role are both strength and baseball workouts to keep in shape during the off season. I do my best to hit the ball and make the routine plays but baseball is a game of failure and things do not always work out. I have also experienced role conflict in baseball. • 6. Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as it would have been in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this poem differs and relates to the high school environment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Men s Health Magazine Analysis Essay The target audience for Men s Health magazine has always been perceived as the stereotypical man s man. The weight lifter, the health nut, or perhaps just the thirty to forty five year old father of two attempting to fight back the hands of time and look younger just a little bit longer. This is no longer the case as the social climate has begun to change over the last few years however, the magazine is beginning to recognize that it s readership is made up of a much more diverse and not so cookie cutter audience. It seems only a normal evolution that as social acceptance surrounding couples of every makeup would lead to a more open and honest discussion about their sexual interactions and how to stay healthy and active at the same time. We have been observing messages of this type since high school for the last 30 years, but only geared towards the more conventional ideas about sex and relationships. It is reasonable to assume that the target audience for this message is the gay community. The individual models do not appear any different than any other person you might encounter in the street or the subway or the local supermarket. • 9. Lord Of Flies By William Golding In the Lord of flies by William Golding, the theme of civilization vs. Savagery is explored. When a bunch of children are stranded on an island, the conflict between savagery and the rules of civilization begins to split the boys into two groups. Throughout the novel, the conflict is exaggerated by the two main characters, Ralph and Jack. While Ralph uses his abilities to control the kids and be civilized on the island. Jack lets his impulses get to him and creates a group of which act like savages. In the novel, the boys struggle to act civilized and follow certain rules. We ll have to have hands up like at school. When everyone puts their hands up to use the conch it shows that they are still maintaining their civil ways on the island to try to handle the hard situation they are stuck in. Although, the conch was also used for power by the antagonist Jack who showed his savage side when trying to get ahold of the conch. Instead of being civil enough to ask Ralph to use the conch and stick with the rules, Jack used his own group to try to do anything possible to kill Ralph. His savage instincts and human impulses got in his way and overpowered his civility. The conch shell is a powerful marker of democratic order on the island. As the conflict between Ralph and Jack deepens, the conch shell reduces in symbolic importance. Jack declares that the conch is meaningless as a symbol of authority and order. Due to this, its decline in importance signals the decline of civilization on the island and overcome by savagery. Another way the theme is portrayed in the novel is by the killing of the pig. When the boys first see the pig, Jack gets hesitant to kill the pig because he was scared of killing the pig and seeing the blood. In the book, it says, they knew very well why he hadn t: because of the enormity of the knife descending and cutting into living flesh; because of the unbearable blood . ... The process of transformation can be done naturally or artificially. Escherichia coli is a common bacterium this is single celled allowing the process for plasmid exchange to not be difficult. The bacterium produces clones allowing the DNA to not be mixed. A plasmid is a circular deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecule that is able to replicate itself of the bacterial chromosome and is often the gateway for which a bacteria is able to gain resistant to an antibiotic. Plasmid contains the promoter of the arabinose operon called PBAD, which is a functioning unit of genomic DNA containing a collection of genes under the control of a single promoter. The genes are copied into RNA together into an mRNA strand to encode a single gene product. The plasmid DNA will be used integrated into the genome of the E. coli bacteria. The differential in growth between the freight industry and the trucking industry could be the factor that pushes trucking vacancies. The trucking industry has a current growth rate of 1%, while the freight industry is seeing a 4% growth rate. In addition, federal safety regulations are limiting the work hours for truck drivers, which results in more employees needed by trucking companies. The combination of all these things compiled the cost of diesel, spells out higher overall costs for every single trucking company in the industry. I think some of the difficulties started with the team strategic plan. The team would have benefited more, from an outline of information that would be presented during the final speech (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think our organization was lacking the first day we met to work on the team strategic plan. We all pushed off the meeting because we thought we had more time and as the due date approached we quickly met up to discuss what needed to be in the strategic plan. Then asked everyone to work on it on their own time. I don t think this was the most beneficial way to divide tasks. We should have spent more time doing group work, and not assigned as much individual work (Adler, Ronald B., et al., 2013). I think we should have used part of the designated meeting times to do group work, that would have been the most beneficial for our group due to all members of the group having so much going on outside of the project, that the time would have allowed each of us to have a required/designated time to work on the project. Allowing for us to get more done, earlier on. I think the anticipation of some members to get the team strategic plan done also caused them to take on too much responsibility which affected their stress level and in return affect their quality of work. What programs were offered in the town to help alleviate the Depression? How did it motivate many of the men to join the National Guard? The Great Depression affected people all over the United States of America and the people of the town of Bedford, Virginia perhaps worse than many others. Bedford, in the time before the Great Depression, had an economy that was primarily based upon agriculture. One family from Bedford, the Stevens boys, was an example of the people who were financially destabilized by the Depression (Kershaw 2003, 10). The banks often foreclosed on lands which had been in the hands of local families for generations, making scores of people homeless and without employment. Everyone was called upon to do whatever was possible to make ends meet. One man, Dickie Overstreet, had somehow gotten by in the worst years of the Depression through supplying vegetables and meat to Dickie s aunt, who owned the Dutch Inn, a boardinghouse in Bedford (Kershaw 2003, 60). Some people sold their property and took whatever jobs were available. People s pride and vanity soon vanished when it became apparent that the alternative was starvation and destitution. Each illustrates different aspects of the insurrection while simultaneously giving the reader an accurate depiction of the historical occurrences. These issues appear as reoccurring themes that build the platforms for many of the reforms sought by Castro himself. This is because these issues address the focal points of concern for most Cuban citizens. The second chapter in Perez Stable s book deals more with the political transitions that shaped Cuba s societal structure during the turbulent early 1900 s. Corruption and problems with the governmental structure coincided with the economic crises. Many Cubans fostered anti American sentiments and regarded the Platt Amendment with much contempt. These feelings arose in part because, Application of the Platt Amendment was a blatant reminder of the limits of Cuban independence. During these occurrences, the U.S. vacillated between mediating the Cuban crises and relinquishing ties to the Cuban government. This stemmed in part from the avid anti American sentiments ... Niemann Pick disease is a genetic condition that is divided into four main types, however this information brochure focuses mainly on type C1 (NP C1). This condition is inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern, meaning two copies of the abnormal gene must be present in order for the disease to develop. NP C1 develops as a result of mutations in the NPC1 gene, located on chromosome 18 at position 11.2. The NPC1 gene is involved in the production of proteins that are located within the membrane of compartments within the cell. Many wondered how Hong Kong could ever be able to be ruled by China again, a country with a considered completely different approach to economic policies. Usually authors have different strategies to give readers an idea of how much time has passed. However, this is especially harder in plays because the perception of time to readers is mainly dependent on the verbal script of the characters. In the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder, his usage of the concept of time is incorporated by major life events such as their life as children, the wedding and a funeral with the help of the stage manager and the title of the acts. To begin with the play is essentially about the lives of two neighboring families, the title of the first act Daily lives is appropriate and telling of the beginning of the play. A critical analysis of the Theory of Endosymbiosis and it s supporting evidence Abstract Introduction The endosymbiotic theory is an evolutionary theory explaining the origin of Eukaryotic cells from Prokaryotic, and is at present; the most widely accepted evolutionary theory of the Eukaryotic cell. The theory explains the origins of mitochondria and chloroplasts and their double membranes, suggesting that chloroplasts and mitochondria represent formerly free living bacteria that were taken into a cell as an endosymbiont. Molecular evidence suggests that mitochondria developed from proteobacteria and chloroplasts from cyanobacteria. It is thought that the Prokaryotes may have entered the host cell as a parasite or source of nutrient for the host, however avoided digestion. The primitive chloroplast may have provided the host cell with crucial nutrients, and the primitive mitochondrion may have aided the exploitation of oxygen for the extraction of energy. In return the host cell offered a protected environment for the Prokaryotes to live in. This was the beginning of a symbiotic relationship between the primitive chloroplast and mitochondria, and the Eukaryotic cell. The theory was ridiculed for years due its controversial nature, however in 1967 Lynn Margulis, a biologist from Boston University, developed the modern Serial Endosymbiosis Theory. These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells, whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used to create an exact replica of that creature. In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells, which happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each new cell to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this paper, I will speak about what I would ve learned about statistics if I had an instructor that was helpful and fostered the spread of education. Statistics is making sense of common data and knowing when you use data analysis techniques, and formulas while making connections between them. Statistics enables the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. According to David Hand (2016), One good working definition of statistics might be that it is the technology of extracting meaning from data (p. 2). There are several elements that are instrumental in the study statistics that will be discussed in this paper that include by are not limited to descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical tests and evaluating statistical results. DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data. It implies a simple quantitative summary of a dataset that has been collected, and aids statisticians and students in understanding experiments or a data set in detail and tells about the required details that help put the data in perspective. According to A. Santucci (2014), almost all research investigations involve studying a sample of individuals randomly selected from a population with the goal of applying what is learned from the sample to all the individuals who ... Chaelee Dalton Burnett Honors World Religions November 7 2014 The Evolving Relationship Between the U.S. Government and the Mormon Church In 1844, Joseph Smith, ecclesiastical leader of the Latter day Saints and presidential candidate, was murdered by an angry mob. This mob was fostered by the release of a newspaper questioning Smith s practices (including polygamy), qualifications, and intentions for his potential presidency. More than 150 years later, Mitt Romney, a member of the LDS Church, launched a presidential campaign and garnered forty two percent of the popular vote. Although these two candidates share a faith, their political roles and views are substantially different. This is representative of the significant changes in the relationship between the Mormon church and the U.S. government. A homegrown religion originating in the late 1820s, Mormonism arose as a rejection of the existing Christian sects and a return to what the Mormons considered to be pure Christianity. Similarly, the members believed their desire for a new kind of government stemmed from their disillusionment with what they believed was a corrupt government and a desire for the reestablishment of true American values and the original intent of the founding fathers. This sentiment is epitomized by Joseph Smith s presidential platform, which states No honest man can doubt for a moment, the glory of American liberty is on the wane; and that calamity and confusion will sooner or later destroy the ... Twenty one years ago, my parents received the devastating news that my lungs were not developing properly and as a result my mom had an induced labor. In his mind, problem posing theory is the proper route, due to the fact that it actively engages a person?s own ideas and personal thoughts and makes him analyze and question reality. This idea assumes many things about the teacher student relationship. Among these assumptions are that: the student begins education with a clean slate, the teacher knows best or knows all and that the student has nothing to contribute to his own education because he or she knows nothing. The Flight Path From Singapore 3.2 The Haversine formula The haversine formula is an important equation in navigation, calculating the haversine of the central angle between two points on a great circle of a sphere using the latitudes and the longitudes of the two points: sin2 (d2r) = sin2 ( Φ2 Φ12) + cos (Φ1) cos (Φ2) sin2 ( λ2 λ12) where Φ1 and Φ2 denote the latitudes of Singapore and Chicago respectively, and λ1 and λ2 denote the longitudes of Singapore and Chicago respectively. We can rearrange the haversine formula to give us the distance d between the two cities. 3.3 The Haversine function In order to show how the haversine formula is derived, we must first understand the function of the haversine. The term haversine appears to have originated from half a versed sine , or half a versine . The haversine function is useful as it can calculate the distance of an arc of a great circle. The flight path from Singapore to Chicago is, in fact, an arc of a great circle. The versine function is one of many trigonometric functions that were once popular in fields such as navigation, but now are practically obsolete and are no longer taught in schools. Commonly abbreviated as versin, the versine function is versin (α) = 1 cos (α) where α is the variable in the function. However, this does not seem very useful in the derivation of the haversine formula. We can manipulate the versine function into a more useful substitution using the half angle identity sin2 (12α) = [1 cos (α)] as sin2 (12α) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. The Sickle Cell Crisis Sickle cell crisis is an acute form of sickle cell disease where pain and sickling are extensive (Byar, 2013). SCD is a genetic disease that predominantly affects black people of African decent (Gersten, 2016). Abnormal hemoglobin chains are the main issue with SCD (Byar, 2013). Normal hemoglobin chains are comprised of 99% hemoglobin A (HbA) however, in SCD an abnormal form of the gene, hemoglobin S (HbS) is present in approximately 40% of total hemoglobin (Byar, 2013). In order for a person to be born with SCD, both parents must carry the abnormal gene, HbS (Byar, 2013). HbS is extremely sensitive to the changes in oxygen amount of the RBC and when exposed to decreased oxygen the HbS cause the RBC to distort and become sickle shaped, ... • 40. The Holy Spirit The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have suggested, however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit instead. Such a conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit in Acts is completely justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the Apostles , but that title could equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to other portions of the New Testament, the significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly seen. The combined sixty eight chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to the Holy Spirit. The combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s longest letters, contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the Holy Spirit in its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesus to the apostles as their power in Luke chapter 24, verse 49. Jesus can give the Spirit to his followers because he has received the Spirit from the Father (chapter 3 verse 16). In the book of Acts, when the Spirit came on the Day of Pentecost, he came as the Spirit of Christ, not just in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ebags MBA 638 002: Operations Management eBags: Managing Growth Case Study 5 Patrick Johnson, Amina Mirzohoshim, Frank Park, Raja Pattamatta, Rita Thakur 4/25/2011 Introduction: eBags, the online luggage and travel products store, started as a business idea by Jon Nordmark in the spring of 1998. Nordmark convinced Peter and Eliot Cobb, Frank Steed, and Andy Youngs to join his venture, using their collective industry knowledge from being top executives with Samsonite USA and American Tourister. With a personal investment of $50k from each of them to startup and $6.8M in funding early the following year from venture capitalists, such as Benchmark Capital, they were able to launch eBags.com in March of 1999. But shoes ship to retailers in bulk packaging rather than individual boxes ( (Laseter, Rabinovich, Huang, 2006)). So when companies like eBags use drop ship order process, there is an additional shipping cost to the manufacturer to repackage shoes and ship shoes to the customer. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate. Some customers order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. Thus shoes carry a much higher cost to serve and selling them online requires a different business model. A comparison of a potential acquisition candidate for eBags in footwear, Shodeni, shows that the SKU count is very high for shoes compared to luggage or bags and eBags should be extremely efficient if it has to handle that high SKU. eBags should add call centers to handle calls from customers in addition to support through the website. They should continue with the strategy of having manufacturers send the shipment directly to the customer. European Expansion: The European market was considered to be just as highly fragmented as the US Market and luggage retailers mainly consisted of small, family owned stores with many limitations. These stores didn t meet the demands of many customers who were looking for a wider array of selection and styles. In Europe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Maimonides Influence On Jewish Law Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, Talmudist, Halachist, physician, philosopher and communal leader, known to the world at large as Maimonides, is considered to be one of the most important figures in the history of scholarship (Fackenheim 171). Maimonides foundations of knowledge continues to have a large presence in the fields of medicine, Jewish law, religion, and most notably, philosophy. Maimonides achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases, and proposed cures. His 10 medical treatises show his humanism as a physician, and emphasis on preventative medicine. Through his medical scholarship, he emphasizes the treatment of the whole patient, mind and body, which allows a doctor to be a more effective physician, as well as a teacher of well being. He pioneered descriptions of diseases such as hepatitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and asthma, as well as many others, with remarkably modern treatment methods for his time. Maimonides was a physician of whom modern medicine would be proud if he were alive today (Rosner). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Deafness and the Power of Signing Essay examples Deafness and the Power of Signing When the deaf Miss America spoke to a crowd of thousands about overcoming her handicap, deaf people across America were disgusted. Deafness is not a handicap, I have been told again and again. It is a cultural identity, a way of life, a choice, even (some hard of hearing people speak of the time when they had to decide, deaf or hearing), but never a handicap, never something to be overcome. The sign for people like Miss America is the sign for hearing, with the forefinger circling up by the forehead instead of down by the mouth. She thinks she s hearing, is what it means. There is also a sign for the reverse: some hearing people get so involved in the deaf community that they think they are deaf, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these elements is a heightened appreciation for the margins, for the periphery. Symmetry According to Ronnie Wilbur of Boston University, a strict Symmetry Condition exists for signs where both hands move, they must have the same handshapes and both hands movements must be either identical or in polar opposition to one another (1). Some symmetrical signs: family, group class place, love, community. The deaf community is not a mirror image of the hearing world; ASL is not English with the sound off. Bring the fingertips of your right hand together. Touch the fingertips to your chin near your mouth, then up further to the right, by your ear. Home is significant for so many deaf people, for the ones who grew up in a hearing world, missing whole conversations, falling behind in school, acting as hearing as they could. One deaf teacher told me she was sure, as a child, that when she turned eighteen she would become hearing: she didn t know any deaf adults, so she just assumed they didn t exist. She didn t know what sign language was. When she turned eighteen and was still deaf, she decided to go to Gallaudet, the only deaf liberal arts college in the country. • 46. Class Obervation on Reading Comprehension Skills Class Observation and Report I met the instructor before class to discuss overall goals as well as goals for that day s lesson. The overall goal of the course is to improve reading comprehension skills, increase math problem solving skills, and develop a strong ability to combine the two and further discussion skills. The goal of that day s lesson was to work on reading strategies: scanning, identifying main ideas, and understanding details of different math word problems and equations. The instructor mentioned that there are only 10 people in the class and almost all of them are between the ages of 11 12. They are all at pretty much the same reading level, although there is some slight variation. Specifically though, in her fourth period class, one student had a tremendous difficulty in reading and understanding word problems and them translating those words into numbers and equations. In one activity the instructor starts the class by picking up one math assignment that was due and they check three other math assignments together. All of the students call out the answers in unison. The unit they had just ended was on integers and they were just beginning their unit on equations and eventually into inequalities. Then she hands out flash cards with five discussion questions that pertain to the topic of equations and inequalities, for example What do you think an equation is? and Why would you ever need to use one? Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be getting a decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay more for the food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a tax on junk food won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from overconsuming junk foods, but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s something that s not going to happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that smoking is taxed because it s pernicious not only to the person concerned, but the society around them and even though smoking is taxed, people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but the number of people that smoke has decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the government puts a tax on junk food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed. The government needs to establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit and vegetables and promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes and obesity and the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will mean that more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. Metamorphosis Dilemma Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis dramatises the concept of alienation and the conflict that arises with his employer after Gregor s metamorphosis renders him unable to work. Gregor is the victim of a dispassionate corporate structure, and is trapped in a job which engages only a minute portion of his personality (Robertson, 57). However, despite his bodily transformation, Gregor remains emotionally dependent on his role within the capitalist system, rather than recoiling in horror at the insect he has become: What a fate, to be condemned to work for a firm where the smallest omission at once gave rise to the gravest suspicion! (Kafka, 3) Gregor s dilemma is that he serves the dual role as both a cog in a machine , and as his family s source of income, and the despair and inconvenience of being trapped in his room heightens his vulnerability as the chief clerk arrives to investigate the suspicous circumstance (Kafka, 3). Imprisoned by his job and father s debts, Gregor is invalidated by the business that defines him and alienated by the insect body that has consumed him. Ever since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, funding for the use of drones sky rocketed because people came to the realization that there was a need to formulate different methods of security and defense. These flying devices can help contribute to water conservation in the west and possibly bring multiple states out of long periods of drought. Additionally, drones can be used to scout fields for insect infestation and crop diseases. Crop farmers can evaluate the economic risk from the potential effects from infestation. The use of drones can make it easier for crop farmers to diagnose the issue so that they can prevent too much damage so that they can maintain a profit.
