Human Resource Management Of An Organization Essay
Graschl (2011) commented on the essential piece of information that Human Resource
Management of an organization is one of the integral part of the organization that helps in
maximizing the performance of the employees for meeting the objectives of the organization. In
this contemporary world, the importance of hoteland hospitality industryis increasing in a rapid rate
and hence managing the people within the hotels and restaurants is now a major concern. This is
because, it is generally seen that the hospitality industries that deals with the welfare and
satisfaction of the customers, do not give much care and importance to the employees. As
mentioned by Lean Darder, Villar GarcaВa Pla Barber (2011) the employees therefore are not at all
treated well that leads to the less employee retention and dissatisfaction. The hotel industry in New
Zealand is in a consistent growth over years and hence it is essential for the hotels to look after the
interest of the employees. The HR practices should be present that includes both the appraisals and
employee engagement that is essential for each and every hotel industry.
In this research work, the researcher deals with the identification of the contemporary issue of
Human resource management along with the discussion on the employee engagement process as the
contemporary issue. In addition to this, the management of the identification of the issues that
includes the approaches and its innovative proceedings are also discussed by

Private Prisons Vs Private Prison
The United States of America is the nation with the most people in prison despite not having the
greatest population. As a matter of fact, the U.S. has less than five percent of the world s
population, yet incarcerates about a quarter of its prisoners. Millions of these prisoners are
incarcerated in for profit prisons. Optimally, a prisonis utilized for prisoners in an attempt to rehab
them or remove them from the streets. However, a private prison is run by a corporation, which
has an end goal of maximizing its profits. The way that these prisons make money is through
stipends from the government that is granted depending on the size of the prison or primarily on
the number of prisoners that the prison house. As a result, private prisons

The Importance Of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence is the utilization of computers to imitate human brains in restricted domains.
This is a consequence of developing computer which carry on logically, reason rationally and can
adequately decipher its surroundings continuously in real time. Artificial Intelligence is no longer a
fictionist concept, the superior computing prowess of artificial intelligence has enabled them to
surpass humans in problem solving. They have made it conceivable to recreate complex activities
that need proficient mastery. Chess playing program is an astounding case of an intellectual

The Basic format of AI and its components is displayed inside the image (Tecuci). With the
creation of robots with artificial intelligence, we are able to create robots which can work on
task with greater efficiency than human beings. Hence, the basic fear of robots replacing
humans in the workforce rises as a potential threat for losing jobs. But individual of society
forget that Artificial intelligence will also create lots of jobs as they will require humans to help
maintain the condition of the bots and also to upgrade and fix issue in the bots. Also, the bots will
mostly take the jobs which are mainly labor infused. Therefore, if we have bots performing the
simple task of society it will require society to grow and become smarter hence benefiting the
society as a whole (Atkinon). Second, frequently individual of society worry that development in
Artificial intelligence will result in computer starting a revolution as they

The Roller Coaster Of Roller Coasters
Since humans were created, we have always searched for some kind of thrill and excitement.
Once man was tired of playing with something as dangerous as fire, he decided to move on to
more dangerous things, thus, the roller coaster was born. From sliding down rocky mountains, to
the huge steel coasters we have today. Roller coasters have evolved, and will continue to evolve
alongside humans. The way roller coasters are made, the safety of the roller coasters and the
popularity of them are just a few things that make up the history of these magnificent gifts to man.
Coaster history has its ups, downs and loop di loops, all that bring us to where we are today.
Roller coasters originally were very different from the ones in amusement parks ... Show more

The ride was constructed by LaMarcus A. Thompson and was the first Gravity Switchback Railway.
This particular coaster attracted many people and brought tons of business to Coney Island.
(Benson 2012. AceOnline.org). From here the roller coaster business only went up. By the 1920 s,
roller coasters were extremely popular. Nearly 2,000 coasters were built! Sadly, there are not
many, if any of these coasters still standing. According to the most recent census there are close to
750 coasters in the United States alone! There are around 4,500 total in the whole world (Johnson
2016.rcdb.com). The growth of roller coasters continue to expand as more resources become
available and inventors become more creative.
Back in the 1990s, roller coasters were primarily made out of wood with small bits of steel and
metals. Wood was much cheaper and easier to use.(Schaefer 2004 Roller Coasters). This put a
limit on how coasters could be designed so the majority of them around the united states were
extremely similar. The safety of rider s was not much of a concern back in those days. There were
many deaths back in the 1900 s simply because most of the coasters had faulty designs, safety, or
were improperly built. (McGill 2001. Ultimaterollercoasters.com), The amount of deaths that were
caused because of the negligence is exactly why roller coasters had to change to fit the times and
safety resources.
Today, the safety

Stigmatization Of Mental Illnesses Essay
A stigma is a distinguishing mark, establishing a border between a stigmatized person and others
attributing negative characteristics to this person. (Baumann, 2007) There are many different
factors that take part in the stigmatization of mental illnesses, however the greatest contributor is
the social distance that is created within society between individuals with a mental illness and
those without. There are two mind sets that can increase a person s willingness to socially distance
themselves from the mentally ill. The first mindset is that mentally ill individuals are different and
therefore should be separated. The second mindset is that mentally ill individuals are perceived as
violent and this creates a need for separation with regards... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Feldman and Crandall, 2007) Society has a want to protect themselves from anything they see
as a dangerous. The common idea that people that have a mental illness are dangerous is
creating a division in the world. Although the ideas may be false it is very difficult to change a
popular opinion. Since the 1950 s American s have increased the belief that mental illnesses
cause the mentally ill to become violent. (Feldman and Crandall, 2007) To change these popular
beliefs and reduce the stigmatization around mental illness it is necessary to bring more
awareness to all mental illnesses. The social distancing disconnects people and does not allow
for society to see how a mental illness affects an individual. The false popular opinions are all that
people really know about mental illnesses. People suffering from mental illnesses are isolated and
viewed as strangers in society. They are viewed as dangerous or aggressive, which increases the
likelihood of being discriminated against. These two factors will lead to social distancing, which is
the greatest contributor of the stigmatization of mental illness. Without creating awareness of
mental illnesses, the stigmatization is likely to remain the same and there will always be a
separation between those with a mental illness and those

The Argument Between Pro-Life And Abortion
The argument between pro life and pro choice gets more and more difficult all the time because
everyone has their own opinion on the discussion. Not everyone feels the same about this subject
not only because it is their opinion but because it is in their beliefs and/or religion. I am a pro
choice believer because I feel it is most definitely the woman s choice, however, I don t feel that
abortionis a kind of birth control. I can understand certain circumstances because believe me there
are plenty but for a girl or woman to use abortion as a resort they use often, that to me is murder.
I do respect others and their beliefs towards this subject because that is the kind of person I am
but many do not have the same opinion as me and can be rude and nasty about the situation. To
be someone who is pro life you believe that abortion is not an option. To say that someone is pro
life is to say that the person believes that the government has an obligation to preserve all human
life, regardless of intent, viability, or quality of life concerns (Head, 2015). A pro life person
believes that one should not commit murder or abortion regarding the unborn life that is in a

Sharon Chapain began her first two years of college at the University of Florida, where she

At both the University of Florida and Florida Atlantic Sharon stayed within a sorority. In her first

Chief Seattle Essay
Chief Seattle
When stories are told about the American Indian it is usually the Indians that are looked upon as
the heathens. They are portrayed as savages who spent most of their time raiding wagon trains and
scalping the white settlers just for fun. The media has lead us to believe that the American
government was forced to take the land from these savage Indians. We should put the blame where
it belongs, on the U.S. Government who lied, cheated, and stole from the Indians forcing many
Indian leaders to surrender not only their tribes but their nation in order to save the lives of their
people.
Among the Indians of the Pacific Northwest, perhaps the best known may be Chief Seattle. Chief

Bainbridge Island; This was a community house measuring some 60 x 900 feet easily the
largest Indian made wooden structure in the region . (4) When settlers first came to America
they were meet by Indians. Once the settlers were able to make it on there own, they no longer
needed Indian help. Then they began to try to change the ways and beliefs of the Indian. One of
the aspects that the settlers spent much time on trying to change of the Indians was their
religion. Influenced by missionaries, Seattle decided to convert to Christianity and was later
baptized in 1838 by Father Modest Demers, at which time Seattle adopted the Christian name
Noah . One of the major differences I noticed while researching information about Chief Seattle
is that in Catholicism there is one book, I m sure that we all have heard of it, the Bible. In
Catholicism it is made up of the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament is
made up of scriptures before the coming of Jesus. The New Testament is made up of scriptures
written up after the coming of Jesus. These scriptures are written up pretty straight forward and
they are read year in and year out. There is no room for individual interpretation by the reader, it is
set in structure. In the Indian religion everything is told through myths and legends. Because of this
everything is passed down from chief to chief

Essay on causes of french revoultionary war
The causes of the French Revolution, the uprising which brought the regime of King Louis XVI
to an end, were manifold. France in 1789 was one of the richest and most powerful nations in
Europe; only in Great Britain and the Netherlands did the common people have more freedom and
less chance of arbitrary punishment. Nevertheless, the ancien rГ©gime was brought down, partly
by its own rigidity in the face of a changing world, partly by the ambitions of a rising bourgeoisie,
alliedwith aggrieved peasantsand wage earners and with individuals of all classes who were
influenced by the ideas of the Enlightenment. As the revolution proceeded and as power devolved
from the monarchy to legislative bodies, the conflicting interests of these... Show more content on

The proletariat and the non bourgeois strata of the middle class had either not yet evolved interests
which were different from those of the bourgeoisie or they did not yet constitute independent
classes or class divisions. Therefore, where they opposed the bourgeoisie, as they did in France in
1793 and 1794, [that is to say, during the Reign of Terror] they fought only for the attainment of the
aims of the bourgeoisie, albeit in a non bourgeois manner. The entire French terrorism was just a
plebeian way of dealing with the enemies of the bourgeoisie: absolutism, feudalism and
philistinism. [1] (http://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1848/12/15.htm)

Debt
Since 1614, the French monarchy had operated without resort to a legislature. Kings had managed
their fiscal affairs by increasing the burden of the ancient and unequal system of taxes, by
borrowing money, and sometimes by selling noble titles and other privileges; however, because
noble titles exempted the holder from future taxes, the purchasers of titles were effectively buying
an annuity.
This led to the long running fiscal crisis of the French government. On the eve of the revolution,
France was deeply indebted, so deeply as to be effectively bankrupt. Extravagant expenditures by
Louis XIV on luxuries such as Versailles were compounded by heavy expenditures on the Seven
Years War

Birth Mothers And Adoption
There is a lot of information available about adoption. It s not difficult to find information on how
to help an adopted child assimilate into a new home, how to manage interstate adoption, who to
talk to regarding private adoption, how to manage post adoption stress, etc. There are never
ending articles filled with advice for new adoptive parents advising them what to expect and what

What isn t as readily available is information for birth mothers.
What is a birth mother? A birth mother is any woman who gives birth to a child, as opposed to an
adoptive mother a biological mother.
Firstly, birth mothers should know that those of us experienced in the field have nothing but

The Negative Effects Of Indirect Lobbying
Introduction: Lobbying of United States politicians has been a thing in the country for years, often
helping businesses and corporations as well as citizens, directly or indirectly. But, as consumerism
increased in the recent years, so has the negative effects of lobbying towards citizens because of
businesses and corporations. Lobbyinghas caused a large one sided gap in how politicians use their
votes on laws, as shown, The National Rifle Association and other gun rights organizations spent
nearly $55 million in the 2016 election cycle to oppose or support candidates through independent
spending nearly 19 times the amount spent by groups promoting gun restrictions, according to a

The comparison of a savings, investments, and lobbying is shown by comparing sizes of each
object is in the yellow box sizes, as well as actual percentages. Lobbying is the ultimate
investment for companies due to how much the return value is because of the certain law being
passed, or repealed, as well as how consumers will react, for example, the amount of gun owners
and NRA memberships increased after President Trump repealed ex President Obama s mental
health check law.
Compromise
Since lobbying is such a beneficial thing to the United States, a compromise on how lobbying
should be dealt with needs to be made, in a fair manner, that can and might make lobbying less
competitive and lower costing. All lobbying donations and contributions should be made public.
The records should be public, so the citizens of the United States can be aware of how much
inflation and competition there is in the lobbying market. Making lobbying records public will
also discourage some companies in supporting certain things, due to the image that would be
established, such as ruining the good image of the company to make more profit. Lobbying
donations directly to politicians are not taxed at all, if not at a really low rate, and should be
taxed just as much as one s salary, especially since the money received is due to the politician s
job. This will often bump up certain politicians into

From February to July, there were protests and constant debate, in hopes of change. However, Lenin
s theses are rejected and the councils continue to support the provisional government because they
re following the orthodox Marxist stages model.
The councils, who were mostly orthodox Marxists, first resisted Lenin s theses because it was
difficult to take this anti Marxist articulation seriously. In other words, they only saw it tangible for
Russia to go through a preliminary stage in order to reach a fully capitalist society, then only
through Marxian revolution get to socialism. Lenin did, however, articulate in his Theses the need
to bring rise to both capitalism and socialism simultaneously. Even though the council s shut down
his view, after the Kornilov affair and the breakdown of the institution, the councils begin to lean
on Lenin. Which results in the successful takeover of the councils. It too can be argued that as a
great leader Lenin won the people and a shift of sympathy towards the Bolsheviks, who promised
everything. The conditions which Lenin had foreseen in his April theses as justifying the transition
to the second stage of the revolution were maturing fast (Carr, 1985: 93).

Cultural And Culture, Culture And Cultural Awareness Of Italy
Italy Cultural Awareness Culture gets defined as the shared behavior that usually exists within a
given group of people, and is known to have learned and develop with time through socialization
in the families, social groups, and schools. This group of people has to reach an agreement for that
culture to exist. Culture awareness therefore is the understanding that someone has about the
difference between themselves and other groups of people from other countries or even other
backgrounds. It could be differences regarding their behaviors, attitudes, beliefs, norms and their
values. Different people do things in a particular way; they view the world in various manners and
even react to things in a variety of ways (Whittaker, A. 2010 ). Culture awareness in Italyis the focus

Broadly discussed, Italian culture entails, arts, family issues, food, architecture, and music. Although
other ethnicities live in this country, it becomes known that about 96% of Italy is composed of
Italians. The country s official language is Italian, and majority speaks it as their primary language.

Analysis Of To Paint A Water Lily By Ted Hughes
In To Paint a Water Lily by Ted Hughes, the poet utilizes metaphor, personification, and imagery
to display the speaker s attitudes toward nature and the artist s task. Hughes style shows that the
speaker is in awe of the landscape, and his task as an artist becomes to somehow capture the
entirety of the scene before him. To begin, the speaker uses an extended metaphor to set the
scene of the poem. He describes the water lilies as a barrier between two layers of nature. The
layer of lilies roofs the pond s chambers, while it also paves the flies arena. By dividing the scene
into two layers, the speaker shows how complex the scene before him is. The most useful literary
technique that the speaker uses is personification. In personifying

Building A Financial Portfolio For A Hypothetical Client
Introduction This report will lay out the various steps involved in construction a financial
portfolio for a hypothetical client. This report will lay out the various steps involved, right from
the acquisition of the client, to the constructing of a portfolio, and back testing that portfolio to
see how the portfolio performed over the most recent one or three year period. The process of
portfolio management involves a lot of subjective and objective analysis, especially when dealing
with individual high net worth clients. While the definition of a high net worth client varies, it is
usually taken to mean an individual with more than $1 million of investable assets excluding
collectibles, consumer durables and the primary residence (The Guardian, 2014). For the purpose
of this report, our hypothetical client has the following characteristics: Age: 56 Employment
Status: Employed Time Horizon: 25 years Investable Assets: $5 million Domicile: London, United
Kingdom Years to Retirement: 5 Level of Risk Aversion: High Other preferences: Not looking for
capital growth, mainly income with low volatility; Prefer passive investing The objective of any
portfolio manager is to maximize return for a given level of risk, or minimize risk to achieve a
certain level of return. The objectives relate to making decisions about the investment mix,
matching investments to objectives, and balancing risk versus performance (CFA Society, 2010).

relevance.
Nuplazid (pimavanserin), is a selective serotonin inverse agonist (SSIA). Pimavanserin is a non
dopaminergic atypical antipsychotic drug with primarily selective inverse agonistic and minor
selective inverse agonistic properties on the 5 HT2A and 5 HT2C receptors, however it has no
substantial affinity on the 5 HT2B or dopamine receptors. Pimavanserin was discovered and
developed for the treatment of Parkinson s disease Psychosis (PDP) by Acadia Pharmaceuticals. ...

Another 5 HT2A and 5 HT2C antagonist with high affinity for dopamine receptors is the
therapeutically used atypical antipsychotic clozapine. Its significant clinical advantage is its
reduced incidence of extrapyramidal symptoms relative to first generation typical antipsychotics
(Sansone, 2014).
5 HT3 antagonists include odansetron and palonosetron, which are particularly useful in the
treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting (Sansone, 2014).
Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) is a 5 HT1A, 5 HT2A, 5 HT2C, 5 HT5A and 5 HT6 agonist
demonstrating psychedelic properties. It is generally used recreationally however there is ongoing
research into it s application in LSD assisted psychotherapy (MГјller, 2015)
Pimavanserin (marketed as Nuplazid) is a drug developed and approved for the treatment of PDP
by the FDA in April 2016. Its mechanism of action and therapeutic relevance is quite significant.
As previously mentioned it is a non dopaminergic second generation antipsychotic. It primarily
exhibits selective inverse agonistic behaviours due to its high affinity on the 5 HT2A receptors (Ki
0.087nM) albeit low affinity on the 5 HT2C receptors (Ki 0.44nM) (Meltzer et al., 2012). Although
it displays anti hallucinogenic properties that assist in the overall alleviation of PDP, its mechanism
of action is not completely understood to

London Short Story Analysis
London, 1827. I m off to work! Cole shouts to his parents as he closes the house door behind
him. Today is his first day of work, and he is very excited. When Cole moved to the city, he
found a job in one of the factories, and being inspired by machinery, he applied and was
accepted. Cole is 17 years old, and is tall with black hair and a thin build. As a kid, he loved
school, and would go voluntarily, unlike some of his classmates, and so he is expecting great
things from his first job. From his house, Cole starts walking down the main street of the city.
People bustle all around him, and he is shoved in all directions. Desperate to avoid the flow of
pedestrians, Cole pushes through to the side of the road, out of the way. I can finally rest, he
thought to himself. Just when all seemed calm, he hears a loud sound on his right. Turning, he
sees that there is a huge machine passing on a bridge near him. I think it s called a train , he
wonders. The massive machine speeds across the city with a thundering noise. What a
monstrous yet beautiful invention. How could anyone even think of something of such
complexity... His thoughts are suddenly interrupted by another man who shouts, Get out of the
way kid, I ve got a job to be at! He then shoves Cole, knocking him to the side, and continues
walking. His head spinning, Cole stumbles back onto the sidewalk, the bustle of people having
passed by, and he lays down to ease off the pain from the encounter. One aspect about Cole is that
he never becomes angry, not even when a person hits him. From his position on the ground, Cole
tries to look up at the sky, except that it is completely hidden by the thick smog of the factories
drifting over the city. He sits up. In front of him down the street, he sees dozens of tall buildings
being built, and dozens others already finished. He had never seen such large buildings, but he
had also never seen so many in one area. Neither had he seen a place like the city where tens of
thousands of people are walking in the streets and cycling. Compared to this, the village he used to
live in the countryside was miniscule. The scale of the city was astonishing, and it sucked the
words out of Cole s mouth. He rapidly stands up,

Analysis Of The Scarlet Ibis
I did not know then that pride is a wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines, life and
death . The Scarlet Ibis is a short story that was set in 1918 and it was written by the author, James
Hurst. The story is about a young boy (that goes by Brother in this story) who receives a younger
brother by the name of William Armstrong. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his
younger brother. It is believed that the young boyhad a condition called Hydrocephalus , also
known as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is
significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to his condition,
the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that the name William Armstrong
was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided to rename him Doodle. As the story
progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can
do. In the end of the story, Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible
for Doodle s death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by the
storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death.
Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is one of the
most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their own opinion about
what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant things within the story that would
clue to the fact that something else was responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people
that believe the parents are responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some
people believe that the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence
can be found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that points to
Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For example, there is a moment
within the story where Brother shows his parents that Doodle can walk and when his father asks
why he is crying he says They didn t know that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only
because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. This shows

Affordable Housing Policy Case Study
In the city of San Jose, California, the housing supply has shriveled due to overwhelming influx
of new residents and prolonged construction of housing developments. With the lacking supply of
homes and more affluent residents moving to San Jose, landlords and developers of for sale

individuals into circumstances such as to relocate to more affordable areas outside of San Jose,

Battle Of Lone Pine Essay
The Battle of Lone Pine was an attack diverting the Turkish army allowing the ANZAC s to reach
high ground at Chanuk Bair and Hill 971 in 1915. The Battle met the criteria of a just war using the
principles of no means malum in se, proportionality/military necessity and distinction. By adapting
the attack to these just war criteria, the ANZAC s were successful against the Turkish army and
gained them the high ground.
The first criteria, no means malum in se which is to not use weapons or methods of warfare
which are considered evil was adapted into the battle as no weapons which are considered evil
were used. The Battle of Lone Pine was trench warfare using the generic weapons of grenades,
bayonets and rifles. The trenches were too narrow and cramped for use of any machine guns or
heavy artillery. Chemical weapons including mustard gas were also too risky to use in the confined

Dream Of The Rood Vs. The Bible
The Dream of the Rood vs. The Bible The Bible has been translated into 451 languages, sold over
6 billion times, and depicted in over 40 movies. The Bible and the crucifixion of the Messiah are
an important aspect in cultures all around the world today. The death, burial, and resurrection of
Jesus Christ has been translated, dramatized, televised, adapted, and cartooned. In The Dream of
the Rood, translated by R.M. Liuzza, the Biblical cross comes to life to tell its own version of
Christ s death and resurrection. The author changed the Biblical account to appeal to the Anglo
Saxon warrior group to effectively convert them. However, the story from the cross s perspective in
many ways matches the Biblical account of the crucifixion without... Show more content on

For example, most of the warriors this poem would have been told to were illiterate and may
have not heard of the gospel at all. Similarly, the interest of the listeners must be kept throughout
the poem. The point of the poem is to convert, but if attention is lost the poem is not effective in
its primary objective. Readers today read the poem and see that Christ has been turned into such
warrior that he eagerly jumped on the cross to die (introduction). The cross sees Christ as a
young hero made ready that was God almighty / strong and resolute; he ascended on the high
gallows, / brave in the sight of many, when he wanted to ransom mankind (38 40 emphasis

and sin, and the warrior is Christ. For readers today, the understanding of what happened at the

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay
Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye
Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience
through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate
product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist,
she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of
other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then
blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate
our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality,
Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely
experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a
postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of
Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person,
there is little to no record of her past or current life online. In an interview with the San Francisco
Bay Guardian, she explains that because she had a lot going on in [her] home that was kind of
crazy, dance became the fluid structure that afforded her the space to finally express who she
really was. A member of Doug Varone and dancers, she

Security Sector Reform
SECURITY SECTOR REFORM Before I proceed, please allow me to give a sincere opinion on
Lt Gen Gaudencio S. Pangilinan AFP (Ret) regarding his lecture on Security Sector Reform.
These are what I think that makes Gen Pangilinan a good lecturer/speaker. He is a subject matter
expert, knows the subject well, and can expand beyond basic concepts readily found in books. He
communicates well and is very dedicated in what he is doing.
Nothing new about Security Sector Reform (SSR) as we all know that SSR is a concept that was
first developed in the 1990s in Eastern Europe. Since it has no fixed definition and no single model
of a security sector exists, SSR generally refers to a process to reform or rebuild a state s security
sector. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In those settings, making people feel safe and secure and (re) building confidence between the
State and its people is vital for sustainable peace and development. In different contexts, from Gen
Pangilinan s lecture, I was informed that SSR can even prevent conflicts or crises from emerging
or resurging and it is also a process that many States undertake on a regular basis to respond to
emerging threats or potential internal or external pressures.
To conclude, the Philippines has yet to show its true colors but the time will come for the
Philippines to rise as a key player regionally and internationally, provided these challenges have
been addressed and resolved. For example, the lack of transparency in the security sector. Until
today, the Philippines does not have a published national security white paper to inform the public
of the government security policy and predicaments.
Thus, with regards to the above matter, I have a few recommendations to overcome these
challenges, because the Philippines is facing internal armed challenges affecting the good
governance of the security sector, the government has to address the structural causes of internal
armed conflicts, insurgency, terrorism and political unrests. Therefore, comprehensive structural
reforms are imperative for SSR. Structural reforms

How Did Daniel Defoe s Death Affect Society
A dreadful plague in London was In the year sixty five, Which swept an hundred thousand souls
Away; yet I alive (Defoe 159). This cry by H.F. is a fascinating statement of a survivor of the 1665
Plague in London. The distribution of burdens in the book was unequal. Personally, Daniel Defoe
was not as impacted as society was as a whole. The intervention of government is supported as
effective but the aftermath of the events reveals the standards that were perpetuated during the
plague were not established as a permanent social institute.

Bismarck Claims The Credit For German Unification
In the early 19th Century, the growth of nationalism and the growing economic strength of the
German states was very great. The German s shared a common identity in the form of language
race and heritage such as music, literature and poetry. The growing improvements in
communications and transport also brought the states one step closer together. The reduction of the
number of German states from 365 to 39 states made each state more economically and militarily
stronger.
Conditions, particularly economic conditions, were such in 1862 that Bismarck was able to build

water many who chose to drink it got sick and died. Disease returns, 100 at Jamestown sickened
and half the number died. Adapted from J. Frederick Fausz, An Abundance of Bloodshed on
Both Sides: England s First Indian War 1609 1614, The Virginia Magazine of History and
Biography (Source G) When people got sick it happened in vast quantities, so it could spread
even quicker and infect more people. The death rate of someone who was sick was also very
high, many who were sick ended up dying. The secondary cause of settler deaths in jamestown was

Intrisic Motivation Increases Student Achievement
Brief Review of the Literature Studies have indicated that intrinsic motivation increases student
achievement. The success of integrating technology with increased student achievement could vary
based on students intrinsic motivational styles. ATLAS has identified viable motivational styles
within individual learning styles. Understanding different technologies and their effect on
motivational styles in ATLAS has not been studied, but studies validate the importance and the
need for this study. Technology Integration Cauley, Aiken, and Whitney (2010) researched students
comfort levels with technology and their success in school. The participants consisted of 168
students. The participants were given a survey to analyze their... Show more content on

108). This research is important to the proposed study because it indicates that student engagement
can be increased if technology is implemented correctly. Ehrlich, Sporte, and Sebring (2013)
reported the differences in technology use in districts in Chicago. The study found that 92 percent
of students have access to the internet and technology at home. However, the frequency of use
varied depending on the school that the students attended. Twenty to thirty percent of students used
technology at school never or rarely. An inequality of technology exists between schools and
schools that use technology. Schools that frequently use technology have higher achieving students.
Enrich et al., (2010) stated, Technology use is ubiquitous in America s colleges and most
workplaces, and it is fast becoming accepted as fact that all students elementary and high school
must be exposed to technology (p. 1). This research is important to the proposed study because it
indicates that the use of technology is inconsistent even when there is similar availability to
technology. This research implies that researchers need to determine better ways of implementing
technology consistently. Learning Styles Hayenga Corpus (2010), researchers from the Institute for
Scientific Information compared different motivational levels of middle school

The 200 Year Old Man
The 200 Year Old Man: How Nathaniel Hawthorne Maintained a 17th Century Puritan Allegory
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born Nathaniel Hathorne until he added a w to his birth name years later,
was a prominent American Novelist that lived during the 19th century. Hawthorne was considered
a dark romantic, and often undertook the mission of exploring the darker side of humanity in his
short stories and novels. (Wright 3) Hawthorne descended from an ancestry tracing back many
generations full of devout Puritans. Puritans maintained a unique perception of the natural world;
His forefathers concept of wilderness was an important part of their religious life, and in many of
Hawthorne s tales, nature can be perceived as an active agent for both ... Show more content on

An elder, gravely injured man named Roger Malvin, and his younger, less severely injured
counterpart Reuben Bourne, are halted on their retreat as Malvin is too weak to continue towards
civilization. Bourne is forced to desert Malvin, abandoning him below a mass of granite, rearing
its smooth, flat surface, fifteen or twenty feet above their heads...a gigantic grave stone, upon
which the veins seemed to form an inscription in forgotten characters. (Hawthorne) The large
stone over the two men has often been assumed to represent the stone tablets of the Old
Testament. (Wright 201). Nearing the conclusion of the story, the now husband of Malvin s
daughter Dorcas and father of one, Bourne sets out on a hunting trip with his son Cyrus. Bourne,
following a rustling of leaves in a nearby thicket, blindly fires his rifle into the brush in hopes of
killing a deer. Dorcas hurries eagerly towards the sound of the gunshot in hopes of finding Cyrus
has downed his first deer, but instead stumbles upon her husband standing over the lifeless corpse
of her son. The thicket is a symbol of deception, introduced by the devil to trick Bourne.
In April of 1835, three years following the publishing of Roger Malvin s Burial, Hawthorne
publishes Young Goodman Brown, another piece that bursts at the seams with symbols of Puritan
culture. The story follows a young man named Goodman Brown, who is journeying into the forest
late one evening. Upon leaving his wife,

The Navy Is A Great Career Opportunity
The Navy, a branch of the U.S. military, is the elite force that fights on water, land and in the
sky. It is filled with both leaders and followers, and everyone in the Navy has to be ready to do
both at anytime. The U.S. Navy has countless opportunities. From an aviator to engineer, there is
always a spot open to anyone interested. I believe a career in the Navy is a great fit for me. I am
not yet sure what I would like to do in the Navy, but I am deciding between becoming an EOD
(Explosive Ordnance Disposal, aka a bomb defuser), SEAL (SEa, Air and Land), aviator and
Marine. I can do anything I set my mind to, and I believe that I will one day serve my country in
the Navy. The Navy is a great career opportunity for anyone who is willing to defend their
country. (Gibb) Education plays a big role in the Navy. Even though college is not necessary to
enlist, everyone needs to be able to solve problems and have some type of education. The United
States Naval Academy is a great college where everybody who graduates needs to serve a
minimum of five years in the Navy. It is not easy to gain admission into the United States Naval
Academy and more preparation in high school is key. AP classes are the best ideas in high
school, and doing more is always better. That means no free periods, and more honors classes.
The United States Naval Academy is very selective. They take about 1,500 people each year, and
that is why a great high school education is the key to getting into the Naval

(Baumann, 2007) There are many different factors that take part in the stigmatization of mental illnesses, however the greatest contributor is the social distance that is created within society between individuals with a mental illness and those without. The common idea that people that have a mental illness are dangerous is creating a division in the world. Although the ideas may be false it is very difficult to change a popular opinion. Since the 1950 s American s have increased the belief that mental illnesses cause the mentally ill to become violent. (Feldman and Crandall, 2007) To change these popular beliefs and reduce the stigmatization around mental illness it is necessary to bring more awareness to all mental illnesses. The social distancing disconnects people and does not allow for society to see how a mental illness affects an individual. The false popular opinions are all that people really know about mental illnesses. People suffering from mental illnesses are isolated and viewed as strangers in society. They are viewed as dangerous or aggressive, which increases the likelihood of being discriminated against. These two factors will lead to social distancing, which is the greatest contributor of the stigmatization of mental illness. Not everyone feels the same about this subject not only because it is their opinion but because it is in their beliefs and/or religion. I am a pro choice believer because I feel it is most definitely the woman s choice, however, I don t feel that abortionis a kind of birth control. From the start, Brother noticed something off about his younger brother. It is believed that the young boyhad a condition called Hydrocephalus , also known as water on the brain. He is believed to have this condition because his head is significantly larger than his body and that is an effect of Hydrocephalus. Due to his condition, the boy was not able to do much of anything. Brother thought that the name William Armstrong was not very fitting for the young boy, so he decided to rename him Doodle. As the story progresses, Brother tries his hardest to make Doodle able to do the things that a normal boy can do. In the end of the story, Doodle dies. It is arguable of whether or not Brother was responsible for Doodle s death or not. Even though most people believe that Doodle s death was caused by the storm or just his condition, Brother was responsible for Doodle s death. Some people may argue that Brother was not responsible for Doodle s death. This is one of the most controversial topics for the story The Scarlet Ibis . Everyone has their own opinion about what caused the death of Doodle. There are some significant things within the story that would clue to the fact that something else was responsible for Doodle s death. There are some people that believe the parents are responsible for the death of Doodle and on the other hand, some people believe that the storm that came in the story near the end is what killed him. Evidence can be found in the text that can back up most of these theories but the evidence that points to Brother being responsible for Doodle s death is overwhelming. For example, there is a moment within the story where Brother shows his parents that Doodle can walk and when his father asks why he is crying he says They didn t know that I did it just for myself, that Doodle walked only because I was ashamed of having a crippled brother. This shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Most Promising Performing Artist Of Her Generation Essay Hailed as the most promising performing artist of her generation, choreographer and director Faye Driscoll unabashedly creates a new and wholly visceral vocabulary to relay the human experience through her work. Often incorporating an eclectic range of elements in her pieces, her ultimate product usually tows the line between dance, theater, and performance art. A Brooklyn based artist, she grounds her work in a personal obsession with the problem of being somebody in a world of other somebodies. This seemingly abstract concept is actually broken down, built up and then blown out of proportion through the work, thereby allowing participants to really contemplate our daily performances of self. With evident interest in hyper theatrics and excess emotionality, Driscoll appears to be one of the few contemporary artists who has taken on a uniquely experimental form to explore the messier aspects of what it really means to be human in a postmodern society. Born in Los Angeles California in 1976, Driscoll earned her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from New York University s Tisch School for the Arts. A very private person, there is little to no record of her past or current life online.
