ABSTRACT
• Short summary
• Toggle joint as a mechanical joint
• Mechanical advantage of toggle joint
INTRODUCTION
HISTORY
• James watt research for steam engine
• Research droved toward toggle joint
• Idea was to amplify the effect of forces
DEFINITIONS
• Effort
• Load
• The quantity that can be carried at one time by specific means.
• Mechanical advantage.
MECHANICAL JOINTS
• Used to connect one or more mechanical part to another.
• There are many types of mechanical joints:
• Knuckle joint
• Toggle joint
• Pin joint
• Universal joint
• Ball joint
TOGGLE JOINT MECHANISM
• Toggle mechanism, combination of solid, usually metallic links (bars), connected by pin (hinge) joints
that are so arranged that a small force applied at one point can create a much larger force at another
point
WORKING
Toggle joint is used where we have to overcome large resistive forces.
Effort applied and two arms tend to become in line creating great endwise
pressure.
PURPOSE OF THISMECHANISM
• Toggle mechanisms are commonly used within linkages and serve many purposes.
• Transferring rotational motion into linear motion
• Magnify input loads (due to the mechanical advantage
• and locking the position of a linkage.
• NOTE:
In all of these applications, the links within a toggle mechanism experience a
great deal of stress, especially when used to lock the position of a linkage.
APPLICATIONOF TOGGLE JOINTMECHANISM
• It is used in stone crushes
• Used in Jacks.
• Used in all types of lifts elevators.
• Used in Automobile Industry.
• Used in some kind of presses
TOGGLE PRESS
• Manually operated bench-top presses.
• Press force is generated with manual force, applied to the lever, which starts
up the transmission mechanism.
TOGGLE CLAMPS
• Toggle clamps are quick-action hold down clamps used to keep a workpiece
stationary.
• Toggle clamps may be fixed to a bench or fixture.
• Toggle clamps firmly hold the workpiece.
SEMI ANDAUTOMATIC WEAPONS
• One very common mechanism is a toggle mechanism.
• Toggle joint works like a human knee joint
METHODOLOGY
RESEARCHMETHODANDMETHODOLOGY
• Research method includes all those techniques or methods that are adopted for conducting
research.
• Research methodology is the way in which research problems are solved systematically.
