Todrov's narrative theory suggests that there are 5 stages
  in conventional narrative:

1.State of equilibrium
2.Disruption of equilibrium
3.Recognition of disruption
4.Attempt to repair disruption
5.Reinstatement of equilibrium



        This theory is used in many texts including books (fictional
         and non-fictional), films, music videos, and even songs in
                                themselves.
