Priorities for Public Sector Research on Food Security and Nutrition, Review 2 by Shawn Baker, Helen Keller International on 11 April 2013 in Dublin, Ireland.
The document summarizes the conclusions and way forward from a conference on the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP). It finds that while implementation of CAADP has made progress, with 70% of countries signing compacts and 60% reaching later implementation stages, the impacts on agricultural growth, productivity, incomes and nutrition have been positive but could be deeper. It recommends continuing to track progress, strengthen policy support and mutual accountability between countries through tools like joint sector reviews and regional expertise, and prioritizing a "Nutrition Revolution" to put African countries on track to meet their Malabo commitments through country-led plans and regional learning. The next conference will focus on Climate Smart Agriculture.
This chapter discusses strategies for effectively communicating with target audiences. It focuses on a program called Together Rx that provides discounted prescription drugs. To reach uninsured Americans, the program used various outreach methods like in-person events, websites, and traditional media. Marketing research was also used to understand the diverse uninsured population and refine communication tactics. The program measured its success based on enrollment numbers, savings, and brand awareness to evaluate the effectiveness of its integrated communication campaign.
The document outlines the objectives and key research areas for the second phase of a partnership between the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and various Bangladeshi government ministries and organizations. The main objectives are to generate new policy options from previous research, conduct additional research to fill knowledge gaps, strengthen the analytical capacity of the Agricultural Policy Support Unit, and evaluate the impacts of development initiatives on smallholder farmers. Key research areas include the role of agriculture in improving nutrition and women's empowerment, measuring women's empowerment in agriculture, assessing the impacts of initiatives like the USDA's Feed the Future program, and analyzing the adoption of new technologies.

The document summarizes an EcoHealth project in Southeast Asia that aimed to build capacity for sustainable management of zoonotic emerging infectious diseases (ZEIDs). It used an outcome mapping approach to engage stakeholders and assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Key outcomes included country team members and paraprofessionals increasing their understanding of EcoHealth principles and ZEID management. Challenges included implementing monitoring and evaluation and integrating social science methods with limited resources. Lessons highlighted the importance of intentional stakeholder engagement and using participatory monitoring and evaluation to foster learning and adaptive management.
This document discusses using social marketing approaches to address childhood obesity at multiple levels. It provides an overview of ecological models in public health and describes how the Chicago 5-4-3-2-1 Go! program applied social marketing strategies to raise awareness of healthy behaviors and local opportunities for physical activity and nutrition among parents and children in the community. Lessons from this initiative demonstrate the effectiveness of social marketing campaigns in promoting policy changes and reducing behavioral risk factors for obesity through culturally relevant messages and multi-pronged community outreach.
Gender and food systems research: Key lessons from the Canadian International...CGIAR
The document summarizes key lessons from analyzing gender integration strategies and outcomes in projects funded by the Canadian International Food Security Research Fund (CIFSRF) between 2009-2018. It finds that projects taking targeted approaches to involve women tended to have narrow outcomes, while those addressing underlying gender barriers and women's empowerment had more impact. The relationship between strategies and outcomes is complex, as higher-level outcomes like empowerment involve mutually reinforcing changes over time. Ensuring gender is central to project design and using common metrics can strengthen integration and outcomes.

The document summarizes a study that adapted an in-person nutrition intervention to be delivered remotely via mobile phones during COVID-19. Key findings were:
1) Coverage and uptake of the mobile videos/audio was high for households with phones but access was difficult without phones.
2) Learning outcomes seemed better for long-form videos than short audio clips.
3) The mobile approach showed potential for engaging whole families but only among households with smartphones.
The study concluded that both in-person and digital methods can complement each other to enhance learning if digital inequality is addressed to prevent exclusion of those without mobile access.
This document summarizes agricultural extension policy in Sub-Saharan Africa. It finds that most countries lack formalized extension policies. Where policies do exist, they take the form of provisional policies or decrees rather than legislated policies passed by parliament. The document reviews extension models and policies in various countries, finding inconsistencies in coverage and goals due to a lack of comprehensive policy. It outlines the typical process for formulating extension policy and recommends countries adopt legislated policies to make extension services more effective for food security and rural development.

It summarizes the purpose and features of the PEPA Sourcebook, which is a guide for generating evidence to inform national food, land, and water policies and strategies. The Sourcebook includes frameworks, analytical tools, case studies, and step-by-step guidance for conducting political economy and policy analysis. It aims to address the current fragmentation in approaches and lack of external validity by integrating different frameworks and methods into a single resource. The launch event highlighted example frameworks and case studies from the Sourcebook that focus on various policy domains like food and nutrition, land, and climate and ecology.
Steps in designing nutrition programmeDavid mbwiga
The document outlines the key steps to plan a nutrition program, which includes gathering and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative data on the nutrition situation. This data is then analyzed to determine the program's focus, goals and objectives. The program will prioritize improving infant and young child feeding practices like exclusive breastfeeding and adequate complementary feeding. A review of existing health services is also required to integrate the program and address gaps. The program goals are to ultimately reduce child mortality by improving children's nutritional status through improved feeding practices and access to preventative health services.
T4N - Session 1: Data prioritisation, creation and collection - West Africa O...TransformNutritionWe
This document provides an overview of data collection and availability in West Africa. It discusses the types of nutrition data needed, common data collection methods in the region including household surveys, health management information systems, food price monitoring, and nutrition surveillance. There are gaps in both the scope of indicators collected and frequency of data collection. While most countries have recent estimates for key child nutrition and anemia indicators from national surveys, many are missing data on coverage of nutrition interventions. The document highlights both challenges and good examples across West Africa that could help improve nutrition data collection and monitoring.
This document discusses mainstreaming biodiversity for food and nutrition (BFN) based on experiences from the GEF Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition project. It outlines three key approaches to mainstreaming BFN at the national and local level: 1) policy and program design, such as integrating BFN into national biodiversity strategies and food security policies, 2) research on food composition and nutrition functional diversity, and 3) implementation through nutrition-sensitive agriculture and value chains as well as awareness activities. Case studies from Brazil and Kenya demonstrate mainstreaming BFN through revising national biodiversity plans and school food procurement programs. Effective mainstreaming requires collaboration across sectors, resources, and champions to integrate the link between biodiversity and nutrition outcomes

This document outlines the overall gender strategy and research portfolio for the CGIAR Research Program 2 (CRP2) on policies, institutions, and markets to strengthen food security and incomes for the rural poor. The strategy includes integrating gender in each subtheme's research and outcomes, as well as conducting strategic gender research to generate evidence on gender in agriculture, evaluate linkages between development and gender relations, and apply gender analysis to policy. Specific gender-related outputs are identified for policies, institutions, and markets research. Three strategic research themes on the information base on gender in agriculture, linkages between development and gender relations, and applying gender analysis to policy implementation are described.
This document discusses the importance of implementation research in nutrition to address challenges in scaling up nutrition interventions. It provides context on global nutrition targets that most countries are not on track to meet. Implementation research is defined as the systematic approach to understanding and addressing barriers to effective implementation of nutrition policies and strategies in different contexts. The document outlines key questions implementation research can help answer related to design, delivery, scale-up, impact pathways, and cost-effectiveness of nutrition programs. It also describes common methods and tools used in implementation research like process evaluations, costing studies, and experimental design studies.
"Partnering for Impact: IFPRI-European Research Collaboration for Improved Food and Nutrition Security" presentation by Karen Brooks, Director, CGIAR Research Program on Policies, Institutions and Markets, on 25 November 2013 in Brussels, Belgium.
There are several research gaps in food and nutrition security across Africa according to the document. Key gaps include a substantial duplication of research effort, research not being adequately linked to local priorities, and research being driven more by external parties rather than the local policy and research community. Additionally, there is limited evidence on nutrition issues like women's and adolescent's nutrition, dietary behaviors, and how to effectively scale up proven nutrition-sensitive interventions. Addressing these gaps will require better coordination of research efforts, a focus on understanding differences at subnational levels, and leadership to manage cross-sectoral food and nutrition security research within countries.

The document discusses coordination of nutrition partners and programs in Ghana. It finds that malnutrition is addressed by many actors across different sectors, but coordination is challenging. Existing coordination mechanisms at the national level, like NANUPACC and the SUN CSPG, are functionally inactive. Coordination is also limited at regional and district levels. Key barriers to effective coordination include limited nutrition capacity and prioritization across agencies, incomplete decentralization, and reliance on donor funding. Improving coordination will require establishing a National Food and Nutrition Commission to lead engagement across sectors, strengthening multi-sectoral capacity, and increasing dedicated government funding for nutrition programs at all levels.
The Knowledge for Implementation and Impact Initiative (KI3) set out to strengthen the availability, access and utilization of implementation knowledge to accelerate progress in scaling up implementation and impact on nutrition. One of its activities focused on the development of a Tools Map, which is an interactive, user friendly, and visually engaging map on implementation tools. This slide deck shows a practical example of where the Tools Map has been used to identify implementation tools on IYCF in West Africa.

How to Make a Field Mandatory in Odoo 17Celine George
In Odoo, making a field required can be done through both Python code and XML views. When you set the required attribute to True in Python code, it makes the field required across all views where it's used. Conversely, when you set the required attribute in XML views, it makes the field required only in the context of that particular view.

Multiple Malnutrition Burdens
Quantitative
Descriptive statistics of nutrition-specific and -sensitive indicators
Decomposition analysis on drivers of undernutrition (stunting) reduction (based on Headey et al.’s work)
Qualitative
Desk reviews of nutrition-relevant policies and programs over time
Stakeholder mapping: identifying national/sub-national level actors
Stakeholder interviews (national/sub-national level; community level)
Note:
Each bar in this graph includes publications that reports on one country only (eg. Burkina Faso), as well as publications that report on multiple countries (Burkina Faso and Nigeria and Ghana) We include all of these because we want to capture all evidence that incorporates that specific country (eg. Burkina Faso).
Also, this graph includes publications reporting on one WHA indicator alone (Eg. EBF), as well as multi-indicator publications (eg. EBF and stunting). Therefore studies can be counted twice – Both in the EBF category and the stunting category.
Key Messages:
Stunting wasting and LBW represent the majority of studies
Very few studies report on overweight
