The Vysys
Nineteen Thirty Eight Regardless of the despondency at the prospect of war with Germany
generated throughout the country at large, the Vyses annual show opened as scheduled at Walker

and although they did not envisage such a far reaching event, it proved to be their final joint
exhibition. Writing in Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the
time: Though international crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date,
but Pottery that is fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical
world. It was Nell Vyse s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane
without using a liberal amount of imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The
Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had
the difficult task of teaming Art with Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a
variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber
produced such subtle glazes as the blues and purples ChГјns, the varied greens of the Celadon.
Without such precise control, potters in rare and happy accidents produce such glazes. No
photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples that suffused the delicate blue ChГјn
glazes (Fig. 149 p.186). Acceding to popular demand, the Vyses introduced two new figurative
works, which collectors could approve from monochrome photographs of the original clay

Los Alamos Interview Essay
Beginning in 1943, the hilltop mesa of Los Alamos began its transformation from a quiet landscape
for homesteaders and Ashley Pounds boy school, into a bustling community for the Manhattan
Project. Resident of Los Alamos County for seventy one and a half years Roger Rasmussen can
attest to the transformations, changes, and what life was life was like in Los Alamosas the small
laboratory grew into the thriving community that we know today. Born in North Central Mason
City, Iowa Roger and his family would live here until he was six years old. Upon, turning six
many changes began to take place in Roger s life. The moving from Iowa to Illinois would prove
to be a pivotal change in Roger s life as his father, who worked in engineering, would be
transferred by the company that he was working for. Shortly after arriving in Illinois his family
would move to Chicago. It was here during his high school days that he would... Show more content

Case Study: S S Air s Mortgage
Background:
S S Air manufactures light aircraft. The owners of S S Air, Mark Sexton and Todd Story, were
impressed by the work Chris had done on financial planning. By using Chris s analysis and looking
at the demand for light aircraft, they decided that their existing fabrication equipment was
sufficient, but that it was time to acquire a bigger manufacturing facility (Ross, Westerfield,
Jordan, 2011, p. 161). Rather than building a new facility they have found a suitable building for
renovation at an estimated expense of $22 million dollars. Mark and Todd... Show more content on

Mark and Todd should consider the monthly payment and the ability of the company to repay the
loan. If S S Air can afford to pay a higher payment, they can pay down the principal faster.
Assuming the bank will not charge a fee for an early payoff; S S could save money and avoid the
risk associated with the balloon payment option or interest only loan. By taking the 20 year loan
option and making additional principal payments to decrease the interest owed, S S could pay off a
20 year loan in 158 months. The following table illustrates the option presented above:
If Mark and Todd choose this option, they could budget accordingly each month. If they are
struggling they could forgo the additional principal payment during any given month. By choosing
this option, S S Air could save money and have flexibility in the mortgage payments. References

Silver Essay Chemistry
I chose the element Silver (Ag) from the periodic table as my favorite because it s a beautiful
piece of metal. Its my favorite element because, it s commonly used for jewelry and looks very
cool on me when I wear a silver necklace. Also, because its color is just very appealing. The metal
was refined by cupellation, and the process was invented by the Chaldeans. It was created by
heating the molten metalin a shallow cup so it can oxidises the other metals mixed in the cup. such
as copper and lead. which leads silverto be unaffected. Silver was founded and invented around
the year of 3000 BC. As the years went on, the german mines became the main source of silver in
europe and this came to be around the year of 600 BC.

Silver can be useful in many ways. Deodorant has silver chloride, which prevents body odor and
keeps the skin dry and free from sweat. Batteries have a silver ingredient that is useful. It is oxide
which makes them last for long periods of time. Lastly Detergent has the component of silver ions
which are released into the water to help eradicate bacteria and odor. It also provides antibiotic and
antifungal effects.
They are some pros and some cons for the element silver. They are 3 cons to silver, one would be
if silver liquid would come in contact with the eyes, it will irritate the eye and you can possibly
lose eyesight. The 2nd con is, is skin irritation by repeated contact and rubbing of the element on
the skin. The 3rd con is, its very hard to mine silver because its deep down in the earth and its
dangerous.
There are also pros to the use of the element silver. Silver is used to make coins and jewelry. Silver
is commonly used in electronics, because electricity flows better through silver. Silver can also
be used as medicine. A Silver nitrite stick is used to control bleeding by (cauterizing) the skin. It s
like burning the skin, but not in a bad way. Silver nitrite sticks can be used to remove warts and
skin tags too. Silver is found in a cream called silver silvadene, this cream is used for people who

The, The Director And Narrator Of The Film, By Jamie Johnson
In the documentary The One Percent the director and narrator of the film, Jamie Johnson, gives
viewers a thought provoking look inside some of the wealthiest families in America. Johnson comes
from old money. He is the great grandson of one of the brothers that founded Johnson and Johnson
Pharmaceuticals and his father inherited a fortune of one billion dollars. In the documentary, Jamie
Johnsontakes on the character of a filmmaker seemingly disinterested by his and his family s
overly abundant wealth. Johnson s initial purpose for making this documentary was to expose the
corruption and power of the top one percent. He wants to expose how the rich keep getting richer
by showing how his family handles their finances. He claims Having so... Show more content on

This sign foreshadows and symbolizes the exclusive nature of the upper class that Johnson
describes later in the film. He begins to make conversation with a woman who has a British accent.
A study done by Howard Giles with the department of Psychology at the University of Bristol, states
Their [Wallace Lambert and colleagues] work has shown that stereotyped impressions of an
individual s personality may be formulated by listeners when presented with a speaker s voice
whose vocal contours are representative of phonological patterns peculiar to specific group
membership. (Giles) Plainly, when people hear an accent, subconsciously they connect it with their
previous experiences involving people with that accent. Because the British are often known for
their history of wealth, power, monarchies, and luxurious culture, the average viewer of the
documentary will subconsciously and inherently connect the women s British accent to wealth and
authority. At this point in the film, upon hearing her voice the viewer will have a broad
understanding of what the documentary is about before even being presented the formal narration
of Johnson s thesis. The spying concept, the luxurious environment, and the audio of refined music
and voice all come together as elements that make this scene extensively persuasive.
Shortly after the introduction, Johnson presents a wave of facts and statistics by using simple
graphic animations. These facts and

The Resurrection Of Christ Jesus
The Resurrection of Christ Jesus according to the Apostle Paul
The example in the Gospels can express many examples of resurrection which delivers a strong
message In the New Testament. The term resurrection by Webster definition explains, Life,
raising from the dead. The Greek defines it as, A standing up again, recovery. John 11:25
explain Jesus speaking to Martha concerning her Brother Lazarus s death. He says, I am the
resurrection, (standing up again), and the life (breath), he who believes in Me shall live even if
he dies. There is much to contemplate when death and life have expression, as to stand up and
breath.
The commencement of this information will be organized in several parts to search and compare
a topics of this essay. Theologians give commentary to this topic as well and explain historical
content to understand. Many have believed Christ had not resurrected but was taken away and
buried. Some believed it to be a rumor to validate that which had been preached among the many
disciples. Eyewitnesses came forth to speak what happened and to solidify and cancel rumors.
The Apostle Paul converted to Christianity receiving a one on one account with the risen Lord
during his reign of terrorism in his day. My goal is to gather information to focus on the
comparison and contrast to the subject, The resurrection of Christ .
To achieve this goal I have organized insight in three paragraphs, to include scriptures on eye

A few of Dylan s most famous folk songs at the time were Song to Woody , Blowin in the Wind ,
and Masters of War . He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his time spent in folk
clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd of other musicians similar to
himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician
hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part
of the album, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as
a topical song that reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be
open for the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper
meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in power as he
wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came into power. The genre of
folk changed the face of music during the 1960s, influencing Dylan s literature style.
Dylan s talents of having the ability to compose music in a variety of different genres was
evident through his country songs as well. According to editors Sara and Tom Pendergast, He
frustrated his fans over and over by refusing to stick with any one musical style or personal
philosophy ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). However, his compelling music lyrics easily overpowered this
feeling of frustration expressed by the crowd. Dylan s

Overview Of The Socio-Cultural Cognitive Theory Of Lev...
The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive development
cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their
ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of
proximal development(ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In
the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual
daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience.
Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master
alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate
support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers,
Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space
between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock,
Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space are
represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master alone,
what students already knew), and the upper limit of

An Audit Report On An Auditor
Introduction
An audit report is an opinion written by an auditor regarding the financial statements of an
organization. The report is prepared using a format that is standard and generally accepted.
However, there can be variations in the report; it only depends on the circumstances of the work
and the engagement of the auditor (Asare Wright pg. 198). An auditor s opinion can either be a
clean opinion, qualified opinion, adverse opinion or a disclaimer opinion. An honest opinion is
given if the financial statements show a fair representation of an organization s financial position.
A qualified opinion is offered if there were any limiting factors imposed on the work of the auditor.
An adverse opinion is delivered if there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the two audit reports of 2014, and 2015 we can see that there was communication between both
parties that is the auditors and the accountants of the firm. The ISA was used as a guideline on how
the auditors communicated with the accountants by guiding the auditing team on the specific items
that needed communication with the governance group. This enabled both teams to understand
matters that related to audit and also was a base for a working relationship that was constructive.
The auditors focused on this ISA to ensure that they remained objective, transparent, and
independent as they conducted the audit of the financial statements of the enterprise and also the
reporting of the audited information (Andon O Dwyer, pg. 1400).
The audit reports of 2014 and 2015 use the ISA 570 where the auditor responsibility has to audit the
financial reports about how the management uses the going concern aspect when preparing the
financial statements. Therefore, the going concern assumption allows one to view a company as a
business that will continue with its operations in the future. Additionally, the management prepares
their financial reports using this assumption unless the organization intends to cease its operations
or liquidate their assets (Bhattacharyya, pg 20). Therefore, the auditors in both reports show that the
organization is going to continue with their transactions shortly because the assets together with the

speech is a typical deliberative genre. He makes the speech on a public forum to persuade voters to

people support his policy. The content is an uncertain decision about future. He provides several

carbon emission would be dropped dramatically by 10% in the next 10 years. Even though the
report represented that greenhouse gas emission in Diabetes cares in 2013 as compared to 2010
increased by 30,000 tons (from 95,000 tons to 125,000 tons), the amount of emission decreased
of 42% in comparison to 2004. In spite of accelerating rates of sales growth in Diabetes care over
10 years, Novo Nordisk could imitate the environmental issue and achieve its main objective for
reducing the amount of carbon emission about 10%. In 2012, it was expected that energy
consumption stood at 6% in 2013. After being analyzed, it can be seen that there was a 6% rise in
energy consumption, which increased from 2,433 gigajoules in 2012 to 2,572 gigajoules in 2013.
Assessing the performance of Novo Nordisk in 2013 and 2014, net sales increased slightly by 6%
but the amount of carbon emission dropped by 4% from 125,000 tons to 120,000 tons because of
reducing system power consumption and having changed the filling plant which become more
environmentally friendly methods. It is clear to say that both carbon emission and energy
efficiency met its common target which was slightly better than in 2013.

Persuasive Ethical Issues
Time is an element of nature that while it may seem limitless, it is proven to be limited. Time in
perspective of the world and existence is said to be unyielding while time in perspective of humans
has an indefinite end of some odd decades. Time cannot be extended, taken away, or stopped as it is
not able to be manipulated by human means. The delicate balance of time runs on a continuous
cycle that seeks to have no end. What if, metaphorically speaking, time could be extended? Through
scientific innovation, life extensiontherapies and medications are in the making to help extend the
lifespan of humans from 70 90 years old to 100 120 years old. Although this theory may seem
glamorous, it does raise some ethical issues as to whether... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Extra time can be great if the human body s aging process could be spread out over 120 years
like it is over 80. If aging were spread out, then quality of life might not be so bad. Martien
Pjinenburg and Carlo Leget made the statement that, Quality of time outweighs quantity of time.
The argument of quality over quantity can be brought up into many issues, but the most
prominent being about life. As insinuated in the beginning, if the quality of a long life is poor,
then the subject may be more apt to contemplate suicide as a means to escape constant worldly
torture. If quality of life is positive, the subject would be more apt to take the longer life given as
a blessing instead of a curse. The extension of human life is an ethical issue that depends on the
person. The issue of poor life quality such as physical decrepitude will be brought out more in the
older generations. Selfish family members that want to prolong a possible family member s life
through this method is really just inhibiting the family member if their current condition is poor.
Good intentions can be misguided in instances where one person doesn t want another dying so
they preserve them just so they don t have to go through the pain and heartache. In Listening to
Public Concerns About Human Life Extension, it is stated by the authors that the most commonly
worried concept is quality of

Canad A Diverse Country With People From Different...
Introduction
Canada is a diverse country with people from different cultures living harmoniously together. Unlike
nations such as America where people consider themselves as Americans first, almost a third of
Canadians identify with another culture or ethnic group, in addition to being Canadian.
Internationally, Canada is praised for its progressive, antiracist laws that support multiculturalism.
While multiculturalism is something that is gaining currency in most countries around the world as
a strategy for including the minorities, Canada was the first country to develop comprehensive
multiculturalism policies. Canada also supports international efforts to protect human rights.
Despite the international credentials of Canada as a bastion of freedom and equality, there are
problems regarding the historical treatment of first nations. Even now, the standard of livings for
members of first nations is significantly lower than that of the average for Canada. Aboriginal life
expectancy is lower and, has fewer high school graduates, and other quality of life outcomes are
poor compared to the rest of the population. What is apparent is race determines success, with euro,
Canadian outperforming the rest. Inequity in socio economic conditions between Aboriginals and

A Unified Standard For Classification Of Reality Tv...
Nowadays, reality TV programmes appear on the television screen with varied types and mixed
styles. It is difficult to find out a unified standard for classification of reality TV programmes

different scholars are infotainment, docu soap, lifestyle, reality gameshows, talent competitions,
relationship reality TV shows, etc. According to these different classifications and from

Portfolio Theory Essay example
The Benefits of diversification are clear. Portfolio theory has played a crucial role in explaining the
relationship between risk and return where more than one investment is held. It also enables us to

He suggested that investors should choose portfolios and not individual shares. (http:/
/www.riskglossary.com/link/portfolio_theory.htm). Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution
showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on
how the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A
combination of investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one
another, i.e., the low returns from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the
umbrella sales. High returns in one industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other
to give a positive return with certainty because returns on the two assets are inversely
correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares) depends on the correlation between the
expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio. Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus
a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1 and a negatively correlated portfolio
would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected return would move in the same
direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively correlated portfolio the
returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). A change in any of the
variables (proportions of the

The Little Rock Nine
The Little Rock Nine
Living in the 21st Century, it is difficult to imagine a time in the history of the United States that
black students could not attend the same public schools that white students attended. In his
famous speech, I Have a Dream, Dr. Martin Luther King said, I have a dream that one day, down
in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of
interposition and nullification, one day, right there in Alabama, little black boys and little black
girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers.
Desegregation, in the southern states, especially Arkansas, did not come without a price to Dr.

Jefferson Thomas never got the opportunity to find his friends. Ministers from different
denominations tried to help the nine get into the school. They attempted to enter two or three
times, but the guards blocked them every time and said You can t enter here (America.gov), so
they eventually just turned around and walked home. Jefferson Thomas was the track athlete
who transferred from Horace Mann High School, to Central High (The Encyclopedia of
Arkansas History and Culture). All nine of the students were threatened and harassed daily, but
the bullies found Jefferson Thomas, the shy one, an easy target. The white students kept me
running; they kept me in shape (America.gov). Gloria Ray was a fifteen year old student, when
she registered at Central High, for her junior year. Gloria Ray remembers the night the FBI
agents came to her house to get her fingerprints. This was done, so it would be easy to identify
her body when they found it later. One white student in particular harassed Gloria Ray daily. She
called her names and pushed and shoved her. She even knocked Gloria Ray across the floor on one
occasion (Campell). Carlotta Walls LaNier, the youngest member of the Little Rock Nine, enrolled
as a sophomore. She was inspired by Rosa Parks, the black woman who refused to give up her bus
seat to a white student.

Realism In Desire Under The Elms
Realism in Literature means portraying life with fidelity. As Harry Shaw says,
It is a style of writing in which familiar ordinary aspects of life are depicted in a matter of fact
straight forward manner designed to reflect life as it actually is
Realism in drama is to depict life as it actually is. Realism is a revolt against romanticism in which
the tendency is to idealize life and situations. So far as O Neil was concerned, he was dissatisfied
with the romantic and unreal situations. He wanted to show living pulsating human beings. O Neil
s early plays were a blend of realism and romanticism. But he is not averse to using melodrama in
his plays colorless and monotonous. So in Mourning Becomes Electra, he shows Orin shooting
Brant, Christine shooting herself, Orin shooting himself out of guilt complex and Lavinia
dramatically entering the haunted house and the life of life long seclusion. These melodramatic
situations add color to the drab realities which might become uninteresting. The most significant
element of O Neil s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Situations are always realistic. In Desire Under the Elms, we see the step son loving the step
mother; an old farmer marrying a young wife; and the crime that takes place as a result of this is
so common place in life. Similarly Mourning Becomes Electra has the story of love obsession and
mother complex that lead to tragic results. Normally a tragedy idealizes life; and realism of the
characters, that is so convincing. The themes of O Neil s plays show a minute observation of
men, manners and situations. He thus gives us a realistic picture of life. His plays like Beyond
the Horizon , Anna Christie , The Straw etc. are full of realistic situations. Similarly, the settings of
his plays are realistic. Each detail of the scene is given realistically and the background is also
realistic. In Mourning Becomes Electra, the setting is the Mannon

The main issues of this legislation revolve around commerce and federal preemption. From the
cases discussed in lecture and discussion, there are two cases that have a strong, direct correlation to
the cases and many others that have a secondary or weaker correlation to the legislation. Windsor

constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) citing that the act discriminated against
the ability of Edith Windsor to collect her spouse s estate by imposing estate taxes that other non

Lopez (1995) handled the issue of carrying a gun in a school zone and whether Congress had the
ability to regulate that. The court, in a 5 4 decision, said no, that the act of carrying a gun does
not substantially effect commerce. Congress overstepped its bounds. Justice Breyer dissented
claiming a three prong approach of which the court should consider significant effect , the act as a
whole, and whether Congress had a rational basis. Morrison (2000) struck down, in a 5 4 decision,
the constitutionality of the Violence Against Women Act claiming that the there is no activity

mountain of data showing the effects of violence against women on interstate commerce and that
the court should defer to Congress. Gonzalez (2005) supports Congress s Commerce Clause

Swift (1904) questioned the ability of Congress to regulate a meat trust but the 9 0 decision

St. Francois Mountains
A search for scholarly reviewed material involving the St. Francois Mountains and Butler Hill

each while J. Ronald Sides produced two articles on the subject. However, the University of
Tennessee at Martin has a limited journal selection and the available material is that of J. Ronald

Literature Review
Ronald describes the mountains as a shallow composite batholith located in southeastern Missouri
(1980). This batholith, or large igneous intrusion, is tilted to the southwest and beveled by erosion.

Francois batholith and probably helped control the structural development of the batholith itself.
The Butler Hill Pluton was originally thought to be two different units, however, Ronald points out
that the contact between the two is gradational so therefore he refers to it as one singular pluton
referring to it as the Butler Hill Granite. The granite is markedly more fine grained on the southwest
side of the pluton and exhibits quartz, orthoclase micropherthite, and minor albite, muscovite,
chlorite, hematite, and fluorite. Ronald notes that the overall texture is hypidiomorphic, partly
idiomorphic or containing some crystalline features, but locally porphyritic. To the northeast, the
pluton consists major of quartz, orthoclase, and plagioclase, with minor chlorite, biotite, hematite,
fluorite, and amphibole. The overall texture is hypidiomorphic granular with a larger grain size
than that of the opposing side. The north easternmost rocks have rapakivi texture, or plagioclase
rims around orthoclase in a plutonic rock. The size difference between the two sides is contributed
to that of the cooling rate associated with the volcanic activity and the entrapment caused by the
roof.
Ronald sampled along three lines of traverse to compile data for chemical data. Samples were
tested at University of Kansas by X ray fluorescence and by flame spectrophotometric methods.

Gender Aspects Of Sex In Sex And The City
This blurring of gender norms, which would normally be seen as taboo is actually celebrated
and fully embraced in the context of the show. This is similar to what Sex and the City does in
the creation of Samantha Jones, one of the main characters of the show. Throughout the show
Sam is seen as the wildest and most sexually liberated character. She is a highly successful,
confident businesswoman who has sex like a man . Samantha defies popular gender norms by
unapologetically speaking her mind and truly having sex with no strings attached in a world in
which women are expected to be fragile prudish and depended on men in order to feel fulfillment.
The writers of Sex and the Citydo a wonderful job of presenting the kind of feminism that we are
likely to experience today. What that means is that unlike the feminism we see in Grey s
Anatomy in which equality is achieved, the experiences of the characters in Sex and the City and
the relationship of the main characters seem to be less of a fantasy and more of a reality. The
lives of the four main characters, Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda and Samantha and their relationships
serve as a representation of the different kinds of women that live amongst us today. On one end
we have the most traditional portrayal of women in network television, Charlotte York. Charlotte is
the most conservative and prudish one of the four women. As she says in the pilot of the show if
you want to get these guys you have to keep your mouth shut and

The German Army During the Interwar Period Essay
Possibly one of the most asked questions in military history is how was the German Army able to
decisively defeat a numerically equivalent Allied Army in France during May and June 1940? One
of the primary reasons for Germany s success was their innovation in armored warfare, particularly
at the tactical and operational levels during the interwar period. The study of the German Army
during a period of prolonged peace and constrained resources reveals that one of the most important
qualities that a militaryshould possess to innovate effectively is the ability to learn as an
organization. A learning organization creates knowledge internally, externally acquires knowledge,
and diffuses knowledge throughout the organization .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Internal creation of knowledge and innovation also requires organizations to critically examine
their operations, and replace practices that do not work. General Von Seeckt produced a
generation of officers that were open to the idea of learning from their failures. Throughout the
interwar period, German officers routinely conducted after action reviews as a tool for open
discussion. The ability to identify failures served the German Army well after their first major
combat operations since WWI in Poland. The senior leadership recognized that although their
doctrine and tactics were sound, the campaign was not perfect. Their primary area of concern was
that the maneuvering of unwieldy armored formations overwhelmed inexperienced leadership, thus
preventing them from taking the initiative needed to leverage tactical advantages. During the
seven months prior to the invasion of France, the senior leadership focused on developing
leadership especially at battalion level and below and reorganizing armored formations to
maximize their mobility and lethality . Learning organizations not only look internally, but they
also look at external organizations to gain knowledge as a base for innovation . The German
Army unable to possess tanks under the Versailles Treaty developed armored tactics effectively by
extensively studying British armored development and exercises during the 1920s drawing out
their own lessons learned. The Germans already with a firm grasp of

Compare And Contrast Give Me Liberty By Eric Foner
No two accounts of any event are ever exactly the same, as different people have unique
experiences that impact their views. Historical accounts and history books are the same way, as an
examination of A People s History of the United States, by Howard Zinn, and Give Me Liberty, by
Eric Foner demonstrates. Both accounts of early American historycover the important colonies,
such as Jamestown and the influential Puritans and the immigration of different peoples to
America. They differ however, not only on the depth they choose to go into these events, but
also on interactions between the natives and the colonists. A People s History, by Howard Zinn,
tells history in a biased way that excludes information that Eric Foner, of Give Me Liberty, does
not. Zinn s bias is in favor of the Indians, while Foner lacks a bias, telling history from all views.
This difference can be noted in the telling of the Pueblo... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pequot War is a classic example of the tension that existed between the Indians and the
colonists in early America. Zinn chooses to illustrate the Indians as completely innocent and
harmless, placing the blame on the Europeans, while Foner illustrates the Pequots as Indians
capable of holding their own. According to Howard Zinn, the Pequot War was caused by the
murder of a white trader, Indian kidnapper, and troublemaker became an excuse to make war
(Zinn 14). Zinn s bias is clear when he claims that this murder was an excuse, which makes it seem
as though the Puritans couldn t wait to murder a bunch of Pequots. This contributes towards
making the Puritans look greedy and selfish. Foner, on the other hand, claims that the turning point
came in 1637 when a fur trader was killed by Pequots a powerful tribe who controlled southern
New England s fur trade and exacted tribute from other Indians (Foner 78).

Placing Ramanujan along side John Keats may seem a bit paradoxical as he former belonging to

interest in English language nor in literature. But the juxtaposition is apt and appropriate in the
sense that both the heroes of respective faculties are te best examples of the proverb, Men live in

Individualism In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter And The...
The American Romantic era, lasting from early to mid 19th century, is characterized by its
emphasis on emotion and individualism. Within this movement, in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The
Scarlet Letter and Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, the
characters set at the center of their respective narratives both challenge societal prejudices through
actions different from the social norm. Hawthorne s protagonist, Hester Prynne, is met with disgust
and disdain from the Puritan community after committing only one sin; contrarily, Melville s
Bartleby is first met with awe and love from his boss on Wall Street, working as a copyist. While

This woman has brought shame upon us all, and ought to die, (Hawthorne 49). With these harsh
words, Hester begins a new chapter of her life in New England as a condemned adulterer. The
gossips speak of marks and brands upon her bodice and forehead, and one is bold enough to suggest
that she ought to die, demonstrating exactly how hated Hester is at the beginning of the novel.
Hawthorne s statement that the gossip who suggests the worst punishment, death, is the ugliest of
them all infers that all the gossips are very ugly, while Hester remains beautiful, subtly providing a
certain insight that perhaps Hester is not the devil the town thinks she is. This demonstrates how
Hester stands apart from others in society, to such an extreme degree that she even looks different
from the other Puritans. Through the ostracization of Hester, Hawthorne shows how her lack of
motivational individuality has brought this fate upon her. He wants to prove to his reader that lack
of this element creates an unbalanced and isolated life, one of which nobody wants to live in.

The amount of child support cases in arrears would decline if a few things were changed, hopefully

is it enough? As it stands the noncustodial parentcan face loss of visitation, probation, and even jail
time for none payment of child support. By not enforcing court ordered child support and making

circumstances are right and a court appointed lawyer may be provided. However, this does not
mean that you will get a great lawyer or one that is best for your case. The noncustodial parent

Formation Of Proprietary Company Essay
Question One The first issue arose on the grounds of factors, which were taken into
consideration by Haili and John at the time of formation of proprietary company rather than
Partnership Company. It can be assumed that in deciding the structure, the features of the two
types of companies and both the positive negative perspectives of them were given attention
before the final mind set. On one hand, the salient features found under the Partnership heading
were as follows: a)Such companies can be formed through an oral or written agreement, though
the written agreement was not mandatory but common. b)Minimum two persons were required

Introduction I will review the unethical event that happened in New Zealand. This event lead to
a power disconnection and to the death of the customer. This event and the outcomes will be
evaluated. Civil and criminal arrangements and the standards that were used will be considered.
The purpose of this paper will be to define the legitimacy of the organization s behaviors. The
matter of this study is about a New Zealand owned orginzation that is tax payer funded. The
orginzation is one of four utility companies that provided energy services to New Zealand. They
provided these services for a cost (Eweje, 2010 #88). There was incident where there was a
situation that a taxpayer had a disconnection of service. This disconnection and the denial that the

understood to be adherent. The abandonment of care caused the death of an account holder.
Heedlessly of the family behavior, the orginzation should have safeguarded against a negative
impact. This incident produced damaging public opinion. Mercury Energy was state owned and
funded by taxpayers. This episode caused a huge impact that was very negative because the
taxpayers and New Zealand expected more from the utility company when death occurred. The
backing of the organizational operations decreased, causing support and funding from the state to
decrease. The activities of orginzation were illegal and immoral, however, they did follow
organizations policies that were legal. Determine if what Mercury Energy did was

Transformation Of King Ashoka
King Ashoka, also known as Ashoka the Great , was the beloved third emperor of the ancient
Indian Maurya Empire, a predominantly vast Hindu kingdom that stretched all the way from
modern day Afghanistan in the west to Bangladesh in the east, including parts of Iran and most of
the Indian sub continent. Ashoka ruled from approximately 268 BCE to 232 BCE, an era
characterized by one of the largest religious expansions in ancient India.2 In 261 BCE, King Ashoka
invaded and conquered the neighboring kingdom of Kalinga, in one of the most fiercest and
bloodiest battles in ancient Indian history.3 The mass casualties and staggering loss of life caused
a profound and drastic change in King Ashoka, as he was so deeply affected by the death and
destruction of war. He sought peace/non violence and found Buddhism, which he embraced whole
heartedly. King Ashoka s personal journey and transformation not only affected him, but also
helped transform an entire empire and inspire a world religion. King Ashoka was both influential
and instrumental in the expansion of Buddhism throughout the Maurya Empireand beyond its
borders. King Ashoka quickly renounced military expansionism and began to follow the teachings
of Buddha and also incorporate Buddhist philosophy, teachings, and principles into his governing
style. He ruled fairly and justly, stating that the power of love is greater than the power of the
sword. 4 Initially, Hinduism and Jainism were the dominant religions of the land,

Technological Advancements Over The Last 40 Years
Technological advancements over the last 40 years continues to amaze people. It was just 16

Most consumers have at least one movie using 3D disposable glasses and Microsoft is
advancing that technology by allowing their HoloLens wearer to view everything from a
different perspective and alter the images they view. Product Type Consumers have been
demanding their technology gadgets for years and this is one area of the consumer market not
slowing down. Microsoft is not the first company to offer the 3D consumer technology,
according to the University of Southern Maine (2016), who reports they have experience with
using Meta s headsets. Consequently, the Universities CI2LAB is the first to fully test Microsoft
s HoloLens in the world (Maine, 2016). Considering Microsoft s advancement in this type of
technology, they have developed the latest innovative product. Based on the definition of Neil
Richardson and Ruth Gosnay (2010), Microsoft has developed, designed and is currently limited
their sales of their completely and radically new HoloLens to millions of consumers. Almost
simultaneously, Microsoft was developing the HoloLens while developing Windows10. This was
a smart choice for them to combine the product development of these two latest advancements.
Moreover, it will help save them millions, maybe even billions of dollars in R D considering
Windows10 operating system already has applications customers can use with these glasses. From a
marketing perspective and review, Richardson and Gosnay (2010) explains Microsoft is currently in

Gatsby Essay- the Pursued, Pursuing Busy and Tired
There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy and the tired To what extent does this sum up the
novel?
In The Great Gatsby , Fitzgerald made all his characters with four predominate behaviours; the
pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired . Some may fall under only one of these groups,
where as the others may belong in all of them. This is not only a good summary of the novel but
also of people s life in general during the 1920s. Throughout the novel, there are characters who
are being chased after, and also individuals who has established that they are in pursuit, whether it
is of wealth, love, a person or an ideal such as the American Dream . However it is the pursuers

However, those are extreme cases and will not likely to occur, therefore it is mostly the pursuers
that are eventful and exhausted. This is best represented by George, who spent his whole life in
an effort to achieve success, however in the end was unable to do so. As result he is only left
with a run down garage and living an exhausted life. When Myrtle, the love of George s life and
probably the last thing holding him together was killed, George was left with nothing despair.
For this George was determined to pursue for the avenge his wife and Gatsby became pursued
for revenge. In the due course, George kills Gatsby and ends his own life as well. Moreover, even
Tom who was achieve almost everything he desired, was eventually tired of his life, and decided to
chase after Myrtle which made him busy once again. Thus, the pursued may be troubled at times,
but for the most part it is the pursuing that suffers.
In contrast to other characters, Nick seemed exempt from being either pursued or pursuing. Being
the narrator of the novel, Nick is very voyeuristic and passive. Therefore instead of being caught
up in everyone else s business, he was very analytical, which provided him with experience for
good decision making. Therefore Nick wasn t an exhausted, nor a very busy man, however it is
evident that he still sought after bits

Sexual Orientation Discrimination Everyone agrees that workplace discrimination has no place in
the modern business world. But not everyone understands the laws that protect employees against
discrimination. In this case, what you don t know can hurt you, especially if an aggrieved
employee files a discrimination claim. Definition According to an article published by Workplace
Fairness, a non profit organization that provides information and education on employee rights,
sexual orientation discrimination means treating someone differently solely because of his or her
sexual orientation whether it be homosexual, bisexual, or heterosexual. This discrimination may
occur because of a perception of someone whether the perception is right or wrong. Someone who
is discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation may also be discriminated against or
harassed on the basis of sex, gender identity, disability, such as actual or perceived HIV status, and
/or marital status. This is very important to Human Resource Professionals because they are the
ones that make sure organization objectives are being met, and policies are being followed. It is the
Human Resource professionals that deal with staffing, compensation, safety and health, training and
development as well as employee and labor relations issues. Therefore if any situations in the

positive accumulated cash flow total.
With continued sales growth, cost controls, and gross margin maintenance, the financial projections
contained in this Business Plan should allow DELIGHT TYME Enterprise to maintain a positive
cash flow and cash balance for years to come. This indicates the DELIGHT TYME will have the
ability to sustain its operational cash requirements and provide DELIGHT TYME s ownership with
dividend distribution.
For clarification, dividend distribution in addition to their salaries can be taken by owners
whenever desired. However, even though loan repayment (if applicable) has been accounted for in
the Projected Cash Flow, dividend distribution had not been accounted for in the Projected Cash
Flow. Therefore, the ending cash balance for

Face-Name Recall and Associative Memory
Furthermore, while numerous studies have investigated the effect of either mnemonic cues and
level of processing on associative memory, few have analyzed the additive/combined effect these
memory strategies might have on face name memory performance. A study by Yesavage, Rose, and
Bower (1983), comparing elderly participant s performance across memorystrategies proven to
enhance face name associations both replicates and extends McCarty s earlier research on strategies
to improve face name associations. This experiment both replicates and extends McCarty s earlier
findings of on strategies to improve face name associations. This study evaluates the efficacy of
recalling name face associations in conditions requiring semantic judgments of the name face
association and in condition not requiring affective judgment.
Three groups of participants were tested. The image group was provided the prominent feature of
the face, a name transformation, and an image association of the face name pair. The image +
judgment group was provided identical information, but they were asked to judge the pleasantness
of the image association, and the no image group was given the prominent feature of the face, and
the name transformation, but was not taught to form an image associating the prominent facial
feature with the name transformation.
In the no image condition participants encoded faces and names as separate units. For the image
condition subjects formed visual image associations

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this experiment was to determine if soft drinks manufactured by Coca Cola use
phosphoric acid in their product formula. An analysis of their product concentrations of HCl and
H3PO4 was performed using the potentiometric titration method, with a standardized 0.1002 M
NaOH solution. The molarities of HCl and H3PO4 were determined by plotting the titration
data, the first derivative, and the second derivative of this data. The results of our analysis of the
three trials found the molarities of HCl to be 0.1232 M, 0.1232 M, and 0.1230 M, with a mean
of 0.1231 M and an average deviation of 0.8 parts per thousand. We are 95% confident that for
this set of data, the true mean lies within the range of 0.1228 and 0.1234 M. The molarities of
H3PO4 were found to be 0.1709 M, 0.1706 M, and 0.1702 M, with a mean of 0.1706 M and an
average deviation of 1 part per thousand. We are 95% confident that for this set of data, the true
mean lies within the range of 0.1698 and 0.1714 M. These values compare well to literature values

The Importance Of Student Participation In Belle Plaine...
The decrease in participation and winning seasons in Belle Plaine High School sports have become
more noticeable throughout the past three years. Students have discontinued or transferred to other
schools to become more successful within their sport. The average number of student athletes
during the 2012 2013 school year at Belle Plaine High Schoolaveraged twenty seven participants;
however, this number decreased to an average of seventeen participants for the current school year
(Belle Plaine High School Yearbook The Flame). The winning records corresponded with the
participation, with more games being won during the 12 13 school year than have been won during
this year. This is due to the lack of student participation. Even though some students are too
embarrassed of the lack of coordinations, they should play a sportbecause of the social, health, and
academic benefits.
Below is two charts to visually compare the correspondence between the decline of student
participation and winning records. The y axis represents years and the x axis represents the number
of participants/wins.

Dog parks VS. Non dog parks
In my eyes I believe dog parks are a good idea. Dogs are great companions for people, and good for
people that are disabled.
Once you have a dog it becomes your best friend and he or she is there through everything right by
your side.If something happens and you have to move somewhere like a apartment ,of course your
dog will be there with you.
Dogs need alot of exercise, and its good for them to be around other dogs and people so they can
be comfortable with them being around.
I understand if you just have a cat and just have it litterbox trained, because they dont have to have
exercise like dogs do. So yes I do understand why a cat owner wouldnt want to use their tax money

Holocaust Death Marches
Death Marches During the Holocaust
Death Marches are forced marches of prisoners for a long distance with bad conditions. Throughout
the Holocaust, death marches were used quite frequently. Nazi s thought they were one of the

thousands of prisoners sent on Death Marches died during the Holocaust. The purpose of these
death marches was to kill the Jews so there would be no evidence of what the Nazi s did. The
conditions they endured were horrible, and they died because of starvation, exhaustion, and

Meditation Argumentative Essay
The many improvements in a person s life that can be experienced through meditation are
wonderful. The world can seem so fast paced and hectic that even a few minutes a few times a
day can make a big difference. The calming and soothing relaxation of a guided meditation can
help people survive beyond the harder times life often has to offer. A good meditationguide is where
a beginner should start when entering into meditation.

Even if only taken a few minutes at a time, and only once or twice a day, a person will open
themselves up to living without stress and turmoil. It has been said that the blood chemistry of a
person undergoing guide meditation is different than that of someone experiencing stress.
Meditation allows this calming change to eventually affect other parts of daily life without having
to meditate, so long as meditation itself is practiced on a regular basis.
To begin properly using meditation in one s life, start by creating a list of goals. These should be
things one is willing to accomplish and interested in achieving. Meditation has been able to help
people recover from addictions, deal with chronic pain and long term diseases, and experience
serenity. Whether one is seeking peace or to achieve something, have the list of goals clear in your
mind.
Once a set list of goals is in place, find a good spot within the home to meditate. It s important
that this place be comfortable to sit in and spend time in, a welcoming place. It s also important
that this meditative space be free from regular interruptions. Consider a spot away from the front

The Vysys Nineteen Thirty Eight Regardless of the despondency at the prospect of war with Germany generated throughout the country at large, the Vyses annual show opened as scheduled at Walker s Galleries on Wednesday, 30th November 1938. It was the Vyses eleventh successive exhibition and although they did not envisage such a far reaching event, it proved to be their final joint exhibition. Writing in Walker s Monthly magazine, J L Naimaster reinforcing the mood of the time: Though international crises may threaten us, and vogues may change and novelties may date, but Pottery that is fundamentally well balanced remains static and real in an unstable, hysterical world. It was Nell Vyse s opinion that in such uncertain times that no one could remain sane without using a liberal amount of imagination, only a few of us can materialise our fantasies. The Vyses, ever optimistic, exhibited one hundred and sixty pieces of stoneware pottery. Nell Vyse had the difficult task of teaming Art with Science, to produce extravagant and delicate glazes in a variety of hues. It was the Vyses complete control of the atmosphere within the kiln chamber produced such subtle glazes as the blues and purples ChГјns, the varied greens of the Celadon. Without such precise control, potters in rare and happy accidents produce such glazes. No photograph, however detailed, can illustrate the rosy purples that suffused the delicate blue ChГјn glazes (Fig. 149 p.186). Acceding to popular demand, the Vyses introduced two new figurative works, which collectors could approve from monochrome photographs of the original clay maquettes, published in Walker s Monthly.... The owners of S S Air, Mark Sexton and Todd Story, were impressed by the work Chris had done on financial planning. By using Chris s analysis and looking at the demand for light aircraft, they decided that their existing fabrication equipment was sufficient, but that it was time to acquire a bigger manufacturing facility (Ross, Westerfield, Jordan, 2011, p. 161). Rather than building a new facility they have found a suitable building for renovation at an estimated expense of $22 million dollars. Mark and Todd... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mark and Todd should consider the monthly payment and the ability of the company to repay the loan. If S S Air can afford to pay a higher payment, they can pay down the principal faster. Assuming the bank will not charge a fee for an early payoff; S S could save money and avoid the risk associated with the balloon payment option or interest only loan. By taking the 20 year loan option and making additional principal payments to decrease the interest owed, S S could pay off a 20 year loan in 158 months. The following table illustrates the option presented above: If Mark and Todd choose this option, they could budget accordingly each month. If they are struggling they could forgo the additional principal payment during any given month. By choosing this option, S S Air could save money and have flexibility in the mortgage payments. This sign foreshadows and symbolizes the exclusive nature of the upper class that Johnson describes later in the film. He begins to make conversation with a woman who has a British accent. A study done by Howard Giles with the department of Psychology at the University of Bristol, states Their [Wallace Lambert and colleagues] work has shown that stereotyped impressions of an individual s personality may be formulated by listeners when presented with a speaker s voice whose vocal contours are representative of phonological patterns peculiar to specific group membership. (Giles) Plainly, when people hear an accent, subconsciously they connect it with their previous experiences involving people with that accent. Because the British are often known for their history of wealth, power, monarchies, and luxurious culture, the average viewer of the documentary will subconsciously and inherently connect the women s British accent to wealth and authority. At this point in the film, upon hearing her voice the viewer will have a broad understanding of what the documentary is about before even being presented the formal narration of Johnson s thesis. The spying concept, the luxurious environment, and the audio of refined music and voice all come together as elements that make this scene extensively persuasive. He was influenced to write Song to Woody during his time spent in folk clubs and coffeehouses of Greenwich Village, where he met a crowd of other musicians similar to himself ( Dylan, Bob 31 39). This particular song was written as a tribute to his ailing folk musician hero, Woody Guthrie. Moreover, Blowin in the Wind is a song that was released in 1963 as a part of the album, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan . According to Dissent Magazine, it was composed as a topical song that reflected the country s overall mood (Dreier). Dylan allowed his music to be open for the public to interpret freely. Masters of War is another folk song that contained deeper meanings than what the lyrics simply suggested. Dylan tackled the theme of men in power as he wrote this during the time of political change when John F. Kennedy came into power. • 11. Overview Of The Socio-Cultural Cognitive Theory Of Lev... The socio cultural cognitive theory of Lev Vygotsky emphasizes children s cognitive development cannot be understood apart from cultural settings, and social interactions and activities shape their ways to construct knowledge (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). The notion of the zone of proximal development(ZPD) is a well known concept of his theoretical framework (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016; Ylvisaker Feeney, 2009). In the follow paragraphs, I will brief explain this concept, clarify how it closely relates to individual daily life, and discuss the limit of this notion with reflect on my personal experience. Vygotsky s concept of ZPD refers to the range of difficulties which children are unable to master alone, but they could solve independently if adults or more mature peers provide the appropriate support (Jahoda, Dagnan, Stenfert Kroese, Pert, Trower, 2009; Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). In teaching, the ZPD typifies the theoretical space between what students already knew and what students are not ready to learn (Santrock, Mackenzie Rivers, Pangman, 2017; Woolfolk, Winne, Perry, 2016). Two borders of this space are represented as the lower limit of ZPD (e.g. the difficulties which children are able to master alone, what students already knew), and the upper limit of ... • 12. An Audit Report On An Auditor Introduction An audit report is an opinion written by an auditor regarding the financial statements of an organization. The report is prepared using a format that is standard and generally accepted. However, there can be variations in the report; it only depends on the circumstances of the work and the engagement of the auditor (Asare Wright pg. 198). An auditor s opinion can either be a clean opinion, qualified opinion, adverse opinion or a disclaimer opinion. An honest opinion is given if the financial statements show a fair representation of an organization s financial position. A qualified opinion is offered if there were any limiting factors imposed on the work of the auditor. An adverse opinion is delivered if there was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the two audit reports of 2014, and 2015 we can see that there was communication between both parties that is the auditors and the accountants of the firm. The ISA was used as a guideline on how the auditors communicated with the accountants by guiding the auditing team on the specific items that needed communication with the governance group. This enabled both teams to understand matters that related to audit and also was a base for a working relationship that was constructive. The auditors focused on this ISA to ensure that they remained objective, transparent, and independent as they conducted the audit of the financial statements of the enterprise and also the reporting of the audited information (Andon O Dwyer, pg. 1400). The audit reports of 2014 and 2015 use the ISA 570 where the auditor responsibility has to audit the financial reports about how the management uses the going concern aspect when preparing the financial statements. Therefore, the going concern assumption allows one to view a company as a business that will continue with its operations in the future. Additionally, the management prepares their financial reports using this assumption unless the organization intends to cease its operations or liquidate their assets (Bhattacharyya, pg 20). Therefore, the auditors in both reports show that the organization is going to continue with their transactions shortly because the assets together with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The argument of quality over quantity can be brought up into many issues, but the most prominent being about life. As insinuated in the beginning, if the quality of a long life is poor, then the subject may be more apt to contemplate suicide as a means to escape constant worldly torture. If quality of life is positive, the subject would be more apt to take the longer life given as a blessing instead of a curse. The extension of human life is an ethical issue that depends on the person. The issue of poor life quality such as physical decrepitude will be brought out more in the older generations. Selfish family members that want to prolong a possible family member s life through this method is really just inhibiting the family member if their current condition is poor. Unlike nations such as America where people consider themselves as Americans first, almost a third of Canadians identify with another culture or ethnic group, in addition to being Canadian. Internationally, Canada is praised for its progressive, antiracist laws that support multiculturalism. While multiculturalism is something that is gaining currency in most countries around the world as a strategy for including the minorities, Canada was the first country to develop comprehensive multiculturalism policies. Canada also supports international efforts to protect human rights. Despite the international credentials of Canada as a bastion of freedom and equality, there are problems regarding the historical treatment of first nations. Even now, the standard of livings for members of first nations is significantly lower than that of the average for Canada. Aboriginal life expectancy is lower and, has fewer high school graduates, and other quality of life outcomes are poor compared to the rest of the population. What is apparent is race determines success, with euro, Canadian outperforming the rest. He suggested that investors should choose portfolios and not individual shares. (http:/ /www.riskglossary.com/link/portfolio_theory.htm). Portfolio Theory: Markowitz contribution showed that the benefits of diversification depend not just on risking individual assets but also on how the asset returns interact with each other, or the correlation between returns. E.g. A combination of investments in Umbrellas and Ice Creams will eliminate the risk of one another, i.e., the low returns from ice creams in rainy season will be compensated by the umbrella sales. High returns in one industry, in this case, always offset low returns in the other to give a positive return with certainty because returns on the two assets are inversely correlated. Risk of a portfolio (combination of shares) depends on the correlation between the expected return of every pair of shares in a portfolio. Correlation varies between +1 and 1. Thus a perfectly positively correlated portfolio would mean a +1 and a negatively correlated portfolio would mean 1. In a positively correlated portfolio the expected return would move in the same direction in the same proportion at all times, however in a negatively correlated portfolio the returns would move in the opposite direction (J Ogilvie B Koch 2002). As Harry Shaw says, It is a style of writing in which familiar ordinary aspects of life are depicted in a matter of fact straight forward manner designed to reflect life as it actually is Realism in drama is to depict life as it actually is. Realism is a revolt against romanticism in which the tendency is to idealize life and situations. So far as O Neil was concerned, he was dissatisfied with the romantic and unreal situations. He wanted to show living pulsating human beings. O Neil s early plays were a blend of realism and romanticism. But he is not averse to using melodrama in his plays colorless and monotonous. So in Mourning Becomes Electra, he shows Orin shooting Brant, Christine shooting herself, Orin shooting himself out of guilt complex and Lavinia dramatically entering the haunted house and the life of life long seclusion. Internal creation of knowledge and innovation also requires organizations to critically examine their operations, and replace practices that do not work. General Von Seeckt produced a generation of officers that were open to the idea of learning from their failures. Throughout the interwar period, German officers routinely conducted after action reviews as a tool for open discussion. The ability to identify failures served the German Army well after their first major combat operations since WWI in Poland. The senior leadership recognized that although their doctrine and tactics were sound, the campaign was not perfect. Their primary area of concern was that the maneuvering of unwieldy armored formations overwhelmed inexperienced leadership, thus preventing them from taking the initiative needed to leverage tactical advantages. During the seven months prior to the invasion of France, the senior leadership focused on developing leadership especially at battalion level and below and reorganizing armored formations to maximize their mobility and lethality . Learning organizations not only look internally, but they also look at external organizations to gain knowledge as a base for innovation . • 36. Individualism In Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter And The... The American Romantic era, lasting from early to mid 19th century, is characterized by its emphasis on emotion and individualism. Within this movement, in Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener: A Story of Wall Street, the characters set at the center of their respective narratives both challenge societal prejudices through actions different from the social norm. Hawthorne s protagonist, Hester Prynne, is met with disgust and disdain from the Puritan community after committing only one sin; contrarily, Melville s Bartleby is first met with awe and love from his boss on Wall Street, working as a copyist. Hawthorne s statement that the gossip who suggests the worst punishment, death, is the ugliest of them all infers that all the gossips are very ugly, while Hester remains beautiful, subtly providing a certain insight that perhaps Hester is not the devil the town thinks she is. This demonstrates how Hester stands apart from others in society, to such an extreme degree that she even looks different from the other Puritans. Through the ostracization of Hester, Hawthorne shows how her lack of motivational individuality has brought this fate upon her.
