Cedar Point Essay
Cedar Point Cedar Point is an amusement park visited by millions of people each year. I ve been to
Cedar Point a few times in my life and I always had so much fun there. What I never realized though,
was how long ago it opened. I also thought that Cedar Point had always been just an amusement park.
Soon I found out that I was wrong on both counts! I learned that there is a lot more history of Cedar
Point, the roller coaster capital of the world, than I thought. Before Cedar Point became the number
one rated amusement park in the world, it was used mainly for hunting and fishing. Later, a bathhouse,
a dance floor, a small beer garden, and the Grand Pavilion was added (Koehl). After that, it didn t take
long for Cedar Point s very first roller coaster to be added! And so, the history of thrill rides for Cedar
Point had begun (Park History). Throughout the years, Cedar Point has undergone many changes. In
the Boeckling Era, George A. Boeckling expanded the park drastically from 1897 all the way until
1931 when he passed away. Boeckling opened hotels, added more rollercoasters, many different rides,
a skating rink, a Coliseum, fortunetellers, and many other attractions. After Boeckling passed away, it

New roller coasters were added, new records were broken, this amusement park got better each year.
In the 70 s Cedar Point started to break roller coaster records. In fact, Cedar Point has had a number of
world records. Whether it has to do with height, speed, or even the steepness, Cedar Point continues to
break records still to this day. Since this amusement park is known for it s roller coasters, it s known
as the roller coaster capital of the world! It has had more roller coasters throughout the years than any
other amusement park. Not only does Cedar Point break roller coaster records, it has won many
awards such as Best Amusement Park (Cedar Point

History Of Circuit City Company s Vision And Background...
In this research paper I will describe the history of Circuit City business, who are their competitors,
and when the company started and failed. In addition, research will state the company s vision and
background information. Circuit City started in 1949 selling television out of a small town in
Richmond, Indiana. It was started by Samuel S. Wurtzel who opened the first Wards Company retail
store that quickly turned into a national store chain. The Wurtzel first experiment was in the early
1940s, after World War II, in which he introduced a new entertainment device. By introducing the this
new entertainment device in 1949 had tripled in the number of TV stations in the United States.
Wurtzel had a friend who knew someone at Olympic Television that was a small manufacturer in
Long Island City, NY. The connections that Wurtzel used his new connections with bankers and
business people in Richmond. Wurtzel decided to move his family from New York to Virginia. He
started selling televisions out of the front half of the store on Broad Street, a few blocks west of
downtown Richmond (Romero, 2014). The first name of the business was called Wards which were
the names of the family; W for Wurtzel, A is for his son Alan, R for his wife named Ruth, and S is for
Sam. Wurtzel approached the business in a different way instead of competing directly with the big
department stores, his approach to cater for low income consumers by offering them installment plays

The And Social Context Of Europe During A Post World War...
What is the role of consumerism in The Visit?
This piece is a direct examination of consumerism. On a broader scheme, The Visit surveys the social
context of Europe in a Post World War II environment. Like many play writers, Durrenmatt
demonstrates that his play, like all cultural manifestations, is a product of the socioeconomic and
hence ideological conditions of the time and place in which it was written, whether or not the author
intended it so. Because human beings are themselves products of their socioeconomic and ideological
environment, it is assumed that authors cannot help but create works that embody ideology of some
form. (Tyson 66). The consequential setting was one of reconstruction of the nation state through
finance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This encircling social framework of materialism and yield is insightful of the drama s thematic
significance. It is also demonstrative of the perspective that administrates the development and
expansion of all cultures and the persons within it. The townspeople slowly begin to accept the idea of
consumerism and are depicted wearing new shoes. The possibility of so much capital seduces the
town people into procuring services via credit, overlooking the penalties that may follow. Claire
knows that, eventually, the townspeople will advance her plan for vengeance because of their present
economic crisis and their desire for wealth.
Who is commodified and how?
Commodify can be defined as the ability to treat something that cannot be owned or that everyone has
a right to like a product that can be bought and sold. Furthmore, many Marxist insights into human
behavior involve the damaging effects of capitalism on human psychology, and those damaging
effects often appear in our relationship to the commodity. For Marxism, a commdity s value lies not in
what it can do (use value) but in the money or other commodities for which it can be traded (exchange
value) or in the social status it confers on its owner (sign exchange value) (Tyson 62). In The Visit,
Claire commodifies sex as an item that can be purchased. Claire, herself, was also commodified when
she agreed to marry an old Armenian millionaire. The millionaire s

Driftless Area
I live in part of the upper Mid West known as the Driftless area. The terrain contains high bluffs and
hills with narrow valleys. The Driftless area, unlike the rest of the Mid West, escaped the terrain
smoothing, mineral depositing influences of the ice sheets during the glacial period (Jefferson, 2010).
The bedrock contains limestone, sandstone and shale, and is exposed or near the surface making it
popular for sand mining. About 95 present of the frac sand mining in the United State is done here.
Driftless Area When the sandstone layer in the bedrock is broken down and crushed into individual
granules it is called silica sand. This type of sand is very uniform, non porous and strong; it can
maintain its shape when exposed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This material is often stockpiled separately on the site for use during mine reclamation (Wisconsin).
Unfortunately the wild life is displaced, bird migration is interrupted and the vegetation is destroyed.
The Driftless area has a lot of plants that are unique to this area only. Explosives are then used to
break the bedrock apart. The unwanted rock such as the limestone and shale are stock piled to be used
later for the reclamation process. Excavation equipment and dump trucks bring the sandstone to the
crusher that is located on the mining site. The crusher breaks the sandstone chunks into individual
sand grains. The sand has to be filtered to remove the smaller grains of sand that are not acceptable for
fracking. The entire process causes a release of silica dust. Inhaling silica dust can lead to serious,
sometimes fatal illnesses including silicosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis (in those with silicosis), and
chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Silica exposure has also been linked to renal disease
and other cancers. In 1996, the World Health Organization International Agency on Cancer Research
(IARC) identified silica dust as a known human carcinogen (Center). Due to this risk factor the federal
government regulates workers exposed to silica dust, but there are no limits set for the general public
(Wisconsin). This is a big

Essay On Teaching Style
Introduction Teacher effectiveness has been an ongoing topic of interest among educational
researchers for many years, with considerable focus given to the specific traits and behaviors that are
believed to constitute effective teaching. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or technique to
teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different teachers may
be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to the differences
in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in improving learners
achievement. Teaching style plays a vital role in the development of teachers professional expertise
(Akbari, Mirhassani, Bahri, 2005). It is always persistent with teachers personality type and varies
among individuals (Cooper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti
Strange, 1998). Teaching style refers to a predilection toward teaching behavior and the congruence
between educators teaching behavior and teaching beliefs (Heimlich Norland, 1994, p.34). In fact,
teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual teaching
practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a style is the
totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full implementation
of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values and attitudes
toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40). According to the results
of the mentioned studies about teaching styles, it is obvious that by being aware of these styles,
teachers can improve their effective teaching and their students learning by using the appropriate style

Painting Comparison Essay
In both art and science, the uses of color tend to play a role in how temperature is perceived. For art
blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in
science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as
warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors
are used to perceive temperature.
The first painting that will be discussed is The Houses of Parliament from Westminster
Bridge by artist Andre Derain. Andre Derain was an artist that was a part of the Fauvism artistic
movement. Fauvism artist emphasized intense colors over the representational and realistic values
retained by artist of impressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subject matter of romantic painters included landscapes, religion, revolution, and
Woodburn 2 peaceful beauty. On the night of October 16, 1934, fire consumed the House of
Parliament in
London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent
man s helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner s painting of The
Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to
give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the
center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays
give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the message
that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction of nature.
From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures. In
Andre Derain s painting The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, the different temperature
of colors is used to give the feeling of brightness, warmth, and life.

Essay about Thornton Wilder s Our Town
Thornton Wilder s Our Town Our Town is play written a while ago, but it relates to any time. Showing
that routine is a part of everybody s life. No matter what day and age you live in your going to have a
routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The whole play relates to
routine even the different acts.
Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900 s).
This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There s one with George and Emily when they first fall in love at
Mr. Morgan s shop. It also uses foreshadowing. When they told of how everyone died. Another
flashback is when Joe comes back after about ten years and they talk about the dead and everyone s
lives.

The dialect throughout this play was universal. It could be used in many different areas and/or time
periods. I thought that the dialect used throughout this book was very similar to how people around
Garden City talk. Blessed be the tie that binds is played a lot in Our Town. This song ties in with the
theme perfectly. Showing how everything is connected and how we miss all the small things in the
world.
The staging is kept very simple. This allows you to think up what they are describing. Which lets you
use your imagination to make it look as you wish. There isn t much to the stage as I said they keep it
simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The lighting is low
making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination.
This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small things in
life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your
going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the
grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that
mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it will continue to do so for
some time.
I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. It shows that it can be any town and anytime. I didn t
really like that play, but I did

Age Of Enlightenment DBQ
The Age of Enlightenment, a movement during the 17th and 18th century started from the Europeans,
later moving into American colonies. The point of this movement was for the society to reform on a
new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. Enlightenment thinkers,
Montesquieu, Rousseau, Beccaria, Locke, and Voltaire helped launched this project amongst
Europeans. John Locke, for example, criticized absolute monarchy and favored self government.
Voltaire also believed that people should be able to speak their minds without the fear they may be
punished. Through these philosophy influence, this eventually leads to European rulers ruling with a
sense of equality, democratic governance, and abolition. John Locke known as an Enlightenment
thinker believed in the equality between men. A state also of equality, wherein all the power and
jurisdiction is reciprocal, no one having more than another...by an evident and clear appointment, an
undoubted right to dominion and sovereignty (Doc. 2). John Locke stated this in 1690 with the
meaning that everyone is equal no matter what their rank or power may be. They must all have the
same advantages with the except that the person may want to work for someone else. To renounce

Malcolm Gladwell Outliers The Story Of Success Summary
In Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell an interesting point is made, this point is if
you work hard and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to
you desires (Gladwell 151).This is true in many of the stories told in the book Outliers: The Story of
Success by Malcolm Gladwell several famous people are talked about such as, The Beatles, Bill
Gates. But in this book several studies on education, parenting, and psychology are cited. We also
learn that there are many differences between what others may consider to be success, and what
Malcolm Gladwell considers success.
I would like to begin by discussing Bill Gates the founder of Microsoft. What opportunities allowed
him to build a company worth billions of dollars? How did he learn so much about how computers?
Did he have any advantages over other students at school? In the chapter The 10,000 Rule it is stated
that The idea that excellence at preforming a complex task requires a minimum level of practices
surfaces again and in studies of expertise. In fact, researchers have settled on what they believe is the
magic number for true success: ten thousand hours (Gladwell 39 40). It takes this long because It
seems that it takes the brain that long to assimilate all that it needs to achieve true mastery (Gladwell
40). So where did Bill Gates get his ten thousand hours of experience before building Microsoft. Well
the answer is Lakeside, a private that catered

Napoleon Bonaparte Comparison
Napoleon Bonaparte and Robert Mugabe were both dictators that maintained an iron fist rule on their
respective countries, France and Zimbabwe. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly strong
leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon
this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for
power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of
absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured down the French
streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little
they did to help France recuperate. Needless to say France was in absolute chaos. But a savior by the
name of Napoleon stood up to rescue the French people in their time of most need bringing lasting
justice in the form of the Napoleonic code, religious freedom, and education reforms that still lasts
into present time. Similarly, Mugabe was once celebrated as a revolutionary war hero in a perceived
era of oppression by the British. Together Mugabe and the ZANU PF(Zimbabwe African National
Union Patriotic Front) emancipated the people of Zimbabwe of their colonial chains of oppression in
1980. However, unlike Napoleon Mugabe brought economic ruin, genocide, and racial injustice to
Zimbabwe. Therefore, Napoleon was a just ruler that did more good than harm for France but Mugabe

Ethical Issues In College Sports
Throughout the history of college sports, athletes have been viewed as student athletes. However, in
the last two decades, universities have placed an emphasis on athletes and the sports they play, rather
than their education and well being. School has not been coming first, and this has caused a struggle
for athletes to become eligible to make grades. For example, the University of North Carolina had
paper classes where the football players would get credits, but did not need to show up for class; they
only had to complete one paper and most got A s or B s.
Throughout the film, many stereotypes were presented and highlighted to make the athletes look like
something they were not. The film mentioned that C s get degrees, which degrades those who play

Self confidence plays such an important role in our life on a daily basis. Most of the time we just go
on with your day without ever thinking about how confident we feel about ourselves that is, until we
re faced with a huge decision or we need to perform a certain task and expect to do it well.
So creating a solid mindset to feel completely confident anytime and anywhere becomes a very
important quality that we can apply to most situations before they ever occur, thus making those
challenging moments so much easier to contend with and to help us feel better about them.
For most of us, trying just one method to gain confidence and maintain a confident mindset doesn t
always prove to be the best solution, but using a combination of several techniques may provide
exactly the key outcome to successfully achieve our ultimate goal.
Here are 10 strategies to the solutions that can be used alone, or in a combination to create or change

Research Paper On Brazil Funerals
Brazilian funerals are held very differently than the average American funeral. Their traditions
stemmed from not only their beliefs but also their living environment, as Brazil is very hot and
demands a fast burial. Within forty eight hours of death, and not a moment longer, a memorial service
will most likely take place in a location called a velorios, a place where a private or public gathering
can take place to mourn the dead. Unlike an average American funeral, food or a long period of
waiting does not take place. A funeral for the Brazilians is very personal and intimate; kissing and
hugging the dead is usually involved along with crying and loud mourning for the deceased. The main
responsibilities of all those involved in the previous

Justice In The Wanderer And Beowulf
History has shown that during the Anglo Saxon time period, the ideals and values of the people were
very important to them. The Anglo Saxons were a people that inhabited modern day Britain. They
migrated from the western part of the continent of Europe to Britain during the 5th century. The time
period that Anglo Saxon people inhabited Britain became known as the Anglo Saxon period in English
history. This period lasted between 500 1066 AD. During this time period, stories had not yet begun to
be printed into books, so stories were spread by word of mouth, and became known as epic poems.

During that time period, a king was the most important person to someone and he was regarded almost
as high as a god would be. Because of this high regard for a king, loyalty to that king and acting on his
behalf was extremely important. This is exemplified in The Wanderer when the narrator states I might
find one who in mead hall might accept my affection, or on me, friendless, might wish consolation,
offer me joy (Lines 27 29). This quote shows that the narrator in The Wanderer is searching for a king
to serve because he has lost his. It is also shown that he finds support and joy in having a king to look
towards for guidance. Likewise, in Beowulf his purpose is to serve a king that is not his own as stated
in lines 415 426, So every elder and experienced councilman among my people supported my resolve
come here to you, King Hrothgar, because all knew of my awesome strength. They had seen me

night sea slaughtered sea brutes. I have suffered extremes and avenged the Geats Now I mean to be a

Regan orders to puts out Gloucester s another eye because one eye can still work.
Goneril, one of King Lear s daughters, discovers that her sister, Regan, has a sexual desire for
Edmund; therefore, Goneril poisons her own sister. However, once Edmund the Bastard is mortally
wounded, Goneril kills herself and confesses that she poisoned Regan.
Concept and Analysis: The motif of violence is evident in King Lear such as when Cornwall puts out
Gloucester s eyes, and Goneril poisons her own sister and eventually kills herself. As Cornwall s
servants captures Gloucester, Cornwall injures and punishes Gloucester as he thinks that Gloucester is
a traitor. Gloucester seeks for help from the servants saying Give me some help! [As Servants hold the
chair, Cornwall forces out one of Gloucester s eyes.] O cruel! O you god! (3. 7. 83 85). This reveals a
motif of violence because it displays a violent act as the servant keeps hold of Gloucester while
Cornwall disgustingly and violently puts out Gloucester s one eye. In addition, Regan is not satisfied
with only one eye wounded; therefore, she states One side will mock another. Th other too (3. 7. 86),
revealing the motif or recurring image of violence because Regan s order intensifies the violence that
they are doing to Gloucester. Furthermore, in the final act, one of the

The Tell Tale Heart And The Birth Mark Only A Couple Of...
Contemporaries Edgar Alan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne published their respective short stories The
Tell Tale Heart and The Birth Mark only a couple of months apart. The Tell Tale Heart is the personal
account of a young man s descent into madness as he becomes increasingly fixated on the eye of an
older man, presumably his father. Similarly, The Birth Mark narrates the story of a young couple,
Aylmer and Georgiana, and how the latter s birthmark becomes the obsession of the former. Poe and
Hawthorne s literary genre of Dark Romanticism opposes human perfectibility, and both writers
employ symbolism, irony, similar characters and plot to convey the theme that obsessions will
inevitably lead to destruction.
The authors of American Romanticism held a particular disdain for science, which they made visible
through the aggressor characters in their short stories. Both aggressors wanted to do away with any
imperfections in their environments, as they felt personally threatened by them. The younger man in
The Tell Tale Heart behaves in cold, calculated movements and dismembers the body of the old man
like a butcher. In The Birth Mark Aylmer, a man of science, uses science in order to create a
concoction that will remove his wife s birthmark. Of the potion Aylmer declares, Unless all science
have deceived me, it cannot fail, (Hawthorne 428). The aggressors are severely flawed characters, who
act on deranged impulses, but attempt to justify their actions rationally and

Champlin s Nero
Kyle Bourassa
HIST 100 07
11/20/15
Champlin, Edward. Nero. Cambridge, Mass.: Belknap Press of Harvard University Press, 2003.
Edward Champlin s Nero, focuses on a much narrower scale than a historically oriented work. His
novel is neither a retelling of events, as with most history books, nor a biography of Nero himself.
Champlin takes the position of a third person narrator, telling the story of Nero s life. He centers on
how Nero presented himself to the public, as well as why and how he was so memorable a figure.
Champlin argues that Nero was not an especially talented ruler, or a good person even, but that he was
effective in his presentation to the Roman people, which is why he was able to stay in power for a
number of years.
In the first chapter, Champlin narrates the weeks before Nero s death. Then he discusses what
happened after he died, what the Roman people did, and the many theories there are about exactly
what happened. The narrative of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Champlin reviews and argues on Nero s explanation of why he killed his mother, his obsession with
Apollo, the great fire of Rome in 64 A.D. and why Nero responded the way he did, as well as his other
notorious acts.
People will have a hard time believing some of Champlin s claims of Nero because of the many
hundreds of years of bias against him. Champlin makes some good, sensible arguments, but also
makes many more that some just won t believe at first, such as when he argues about the good things
Nero did. Most people would remember Nero as a raving madman who killed for pleasure and ruled
so terribly that his own subjects eventually killed him. While it is revealed in the first chapter that
Nero commits suicide, the Roman people would have killed him if he didn t kill himself

Potential Dialogue Between Civilizations And The Clash Of...
I. Introduction
As being stated by Samuel P. Huntington, the Clash of Civilization is a hypothesis in which the
primary sources of conflicts in the post cold war era are more dominant to the people s cultural and
religious identities. Civilization has three attributes which are the objective elements language, history
religion, customs, and institution; the subjective elements variable levels of self identification; and
civilization itself is dynamic they rise and fall, divide and merge. Dialogue between civilizations are
also needed and will give significant impacts for not only both civilizations but also for the world.
This paper would like to discuss and analyze two cases about the possibility of Post American World
Order towards the potential Dialogue between Civilizations or the Clash of Civilizations theory; and
the contribution of Dialogue between Civilizations towards the management of negative impact in this
globalization era.

case above that the U.S. or mostly known as the Western Civilizations is frightened and worried about
the rise of China or known as the Chinese Civilizations. This case will create the clash between the
West and Chinese Civilizations. The clash of civilizations that will be occurred by both the West and
Chinese civilizations will be in a form of the macro level clash of civilizations where the states from
different civilizations compete for economic power, struggle over the control, and competitively

Essay on Plato s Symposium
Though not as philosophical as many of Plato s other works, The Symposium gives a greater in depth
account and characterization into the social life of the intellectual circles in Ancient Greece. The
eulogies from each of the philosophers at the discussion examine the origins and theories of love in its
many forms. Several of the theories and themes discussed in The Symposium are repeated as well as
contrasted by each of the orators. The themes of physical love and lust, and reproduction are most
notably discussed and compared within each speech.
The ideas of physical love, or the lusting for body rather than mind, are discussed within the speakers
and related to their own physical loves as compared to their intellectual loves. ... Show more content

In Agathon s eulogy, he praises the actual god that is Love, and speaks of the virtues of Love rather
than the natures. Within these virtues is moderation, and he states that love has the biggest share of
moderation. It is generally agreed that moderation is the mastery of pleasures and desires, and that no
pleasure is stronger than Love...if Love masters pleasures and desires, he must be exceptionally
moderate, (30.196c). This continues further on the ideas of the pleasure received purely from physical
love are inferior and must be practiced in moderation. Socrates closes on the discussion of physical
love and lust in his discussion. He concludes that physical love is not love at all because, desire and
love are directed at what you don t have, what isn t there, and what you need, (35.200e). Since one can
never be in the possession of love, then love can not be held in the single physical act of lust and
pleasure. Each orator discusses the inferiority of the purely physical acts of love and as they continue,
each discussion delves further into the inadequacy of love without intellect.
As with the aspects of physical love and lust within humans, the ideas of reproduction permeate
throughout The Symposium. In Aristophanes address, he discusses the history of love in the

The Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation From what I could see, there were not multiple roles to play in this simulation;
instead, everyone logging into the simulation appears to play the same role, which was that of the
distributor ordering products from the manufacturer and attempting to get them to the customers. This
is an important point, because in many ways a distributor has greater flexibility than a retailer and a
manufacturer, but, in other ways, faces far greater constraints than business people in other positions.
The distributor s role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other wholesaler and then distribute that
stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that there are actually different roles to play
in the project, but I actually logged in from different computers to see if I would get to play another
role in the game, but every time I ended up in the distributor role. One of the interesting things about
the simulation was that one did not start from scratch in the project. Instead, the simulation is already
running and is in a certain week of production and distribution when the student enters into the
stimulation. This means that the student gets both the benefit and the burden of work done by prior
students. In my scenario, this ended up having a very detrimental impact on me, because I began with
a tremendous backlog of product that my retailers had ordered from me. I cannot tell if the person
before me was placing small orders or if they were

Essay On Water Pollution
Chapter One
The Problem and Its Setting
Water is essential to life. It provides an efficient way to transfer substances from a cell to the cell s
environment. Which is why there is usually no positive impacts when referring to water pollution as it
is a major global problem. Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies. It exist as a result of
harmful substances being inserted into water bodies whether purposely or accidently. When observed
it has an affect on the entire ecological system, and most occurrences negatively impact whole species
as it is the leading cause of death and disease. On account of water being an vital component of life on
Earth, if it is indeed contaminated, it will deplete the health of the plant and every living thing on it.
Background of the Study
Water pollution can affect the macroinvertebrates that live in the water and they can become
contaminated. When the consumption of influenced macroinvertebrates occur and travel throughout
the food chain based around the body of water, toxins that contaminated the supply are now spread.
The water quality can determine which type of macroinvertebrates inhabit the bodies of water because
there are pollution sensitive and pollution tolerant macroinvertebrates. If the bodies of water are only
inhabited by pollution tolerant macroinvertebrate that suggest that the water is highly contaminate and
those are the only macroinvertebrates that can survive there. Although, if there is a balance of both

Case Analysis Of Alibaba
Alibaba, the owner of the largest shopping website of Taobao and T mall, is considered to be a
successful company and it became listed in the United States. After being listed, Alibaba face more
challenges and opportunities. The high rate of counterfeits makes consumers lose confidence in
Alibaba and it has been sued by some large brands, such as Gucci and Kering. Fake items are a big
issue for Alibab and Harley Lewin, a lawyer, even says that it will go broke if it eliminates all fake
goods (Schuman). The seemingly fake financial statement also damages its reputation. The situation is
aggravated by decreasing purchase power of Chinese, economic depression, and competition from
other shopping websites, such as JingDong and Amazon. However, ... Show more content on

Launch more products, such as personal finance service in funds and insurances. Considering the
decreasing purchase power, Alibaba needs to think about new businesses. As the third party payment
platform of Alibaba, the service of Alipay is single. Alipay needs to expand the cooperation with
domestic and international banks and other financial institutions to provide more financial services for
users.
6. Innovate and diversify the service pattern. In order to compete with JingDong, Amazon, and other
shopping websites, Alibaba needs to bring forth new ideas to user service and optimize users shopping
experience in order to retain and attract customers. Apart from providing a better shopping platform
for consumers, Alibaba needs to improve interactions with consumers and build an open social
network.
7. Utilize the network resources more effectively. Although Alibaba provides a desirable platform of
B2B and allows businesses to trade directly, it can be difficult for businesses to market new products
on a B2B platform. In order to make information flow more smoothly between businesses and
customers, Alibaba can cooperate with other shopping websites, such as JingDong and Amazon and
share more information on how to provide better service and business information for

Essay on Nasser and the United States
In July 1952, the Egyptian government, headed by King Farouk, was overthrown in a bloodless coup
led by the Free Officers, soon to be known as the Egyptian Revolutionary Command Council (RCC).
The revolution was ostensibly led by Muhammad Naguib but it was clear that he was a mere
figurehead and in a little over two years, Gamal Abdel Nasser would assume the Presidency. Although
the goals of the RCC were somewhat unclear at the start, Nasser would embark on a policy of creating
an independent Egypt free from internal and external domination. It was the latter goal that would set
Nasser on a collision course with the West, initially Great Britain and to a lesser extent France, but
eventually the United States. As such, Nasser s commitment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Accordingly, the United States, in the midst of their conflict in Korea, could not have been more
pleased. As Great Britain s power in the Middle East was waning, the contest between the United
States and the Soviet Union increased in order to fill the vacuum of power left by the slowly vacating
British. Immediately upon seizing power, the RCC showed a willingness to brutally suppress domestic
communist activities. According to Yaqub: The Truman administration was enthusiastic about the new
regime...The new government expressed a desire for friendly relations with the United States and
cracked down on communist activists who had taken part in the anti British disturbances, prompting
Moscow to denounce the regime as reactionary.
The revolutionary regime in Egypt appeared to fulfill US aspirations in the Middle East in a sense that
it was sufficiently opposed to communism and at the same time appeared to have generated popular
sympathy. When in the fall of 1954 Nasser stated his willingness to align with the west while seeing
the USSR as the only real threat to Egypt s independence, the United States responded by providing
propaganda for Nasser s regime in Egypt and the Arab world. The appearance of solidarity, however,
was soon to be tested.

Evolution Of A Common Single Celled Origin

It was judged that the polar bears evolved from the brown bears to become comfortable with the
growing artic weather. One of the main causes of evolution within a species is the evolving to survive
a new environment. And this is just what the polar bears did. So even though they are now completely
different, they are linked together by the same family history (Harmon, Katherine). Another example
of evolution would involve natural selection. Natural selection is a chief mechanism hidden (under)
evolution, and it acts as a phenotypic honor/difference in populations; it kills off those species unfit to
survive and if a gene is viewed as a hider, it is either changed or eventually evolved away. But there
are those genes that are indifferent to the organism, it neither helps it nor hurts it. This is just like men
s nipples. In a male s body, the nipples are of no importance, unlike in females who need them for
sexual reproduction. But women and men are both the same species: humans. But we can see a major
(many different kinds of people or things) within them: sexual organs, muscle tones, height,
hormones, etc. So through the process of evolution that humans came to be, there is a grand of life
between males and females. But yet, we are so alike in our brains, body functions, organs, limbs, etc.

Hepburn And Streep Research Paper
There have been a wide variety of memorable actors and actresses that have taken Hollywood by
storm. Ranging from opera singers to theater performers, all of these stars may share many similarities
and differences, ranging from personality to number of awards. Of the many famous female stars of
Hollywood, Katharine Hepburn and Meryl Streep are by far some of the most accomplished and well
known. Both Hepburn and Streep acquired an interest for theater, acting, and performance at a young
age. Katharine Hepburn s interest in theater and acting was sparked as child when she and her siblings
created a group, the Hepburn Players, with her neighbors to perform plays. Meryl Streep s desire to

Both women challenged stereotypes for female actresses regarding the characters they portrayed.
Hepburn played a wide variety of characters, ranging from queens to librarians ( Katharine Hepburn ).
Hepburn did not only accept roles for elegant women with class and sophistication. She took on a
variety of roles and became the outstanding performer known today. Hepburn was also an
astoundingly strong woman. At a young age, she lost her brother, with whom she was very close with,
to suicide. Hepburn remained strong through the tragedy, and along with her four siblings, she created
a self directed performing group with other neighborhood kids (Socha 867). Meryl Streep also played
characters who were not necessarily seen as feminine and graceful. Streep s physical appearance,
beautiful while still flexible, allowed her to easily become characters who were not ladylike and
tender, which was perfect for her to play a variety of characters ( Meryl Streep ). Hepburn and Streep
both strayed away from what women ordinarily played, changing the roles actresses in Hollywood
accepted and also changing the way society saw women. After seeing such great stars become females
who were not considered normal, it was much more acceptable for real women to not be what society

Greek Myth Of Icarus
The Greek myth of Icarus goes as follows. In ancient Greece, there was a brilliant inventor named
Daedalus. This man had a son named Icarus. They both lived on the island of Crete, which was ruled
by a tyrant named King Minos. Wanting to escape from island with his son to avoid King Mino s
wrath, Daedalus invented wings to fly across the sea with. As the only means of escape, Daedalus
warned his son to neither fly too high to the sun and too low to the sea. As the two made their escape,
Icarus had forgotten his father s warning. He enjoyed the feeling of flying too much and soared higher
and higher towards the sun. Eventually, he came too close to the sun and his wings melted. He
plummeted towards the earth, where he fell to the sea and drowned. Stricken with grief at the loss of
his son, Daedalus built a temple to the god Apollo and offered the wings he made as tribute. ... Show

While Daedalus was a genius, his invention invaded a domain that belonged solely to the gods. In
Greek mythology, only the Gods were allowed to fly. I believe it was also a lesson in humility. The
warning Daedalus gave Icarus about flying too high could be analogous with knowing your limits or
not wanting too much. However, in a painting done by Bruegel on the subject of Icarus, he paints the
whole ordeal rather as insignificant. A religious man that lived in the 16th century, Bruegel s painting
downplays the Greek gods in that they are only mythical and that the punishment Icarus receives was
neither important nor divine. I think this illustrates that while myths may just be fantasy stories to
amuse ourselves with, at one point they were someone else s religion. It s not a stretch of the
imagination to think that no religion is immune from

Italian Immigration to America
From 1890 to 1915 estimated around 4 million Italians arrived in the United States. Majority being
from 1900 to 1914. Once they arrived in America, immigrants faced difficult challenges. Most of the
time not even knowing the English language and also having very little education. Many of the new
immigrants were forced to accept the lowest paying and hellish jobs. Sometimes were often forced by
the average man who acted like they were slaves. Most of the immigrants found homes in the older
sections of the big northeastern coastal cities. Later became known as the Little Italy s most of the
time being overcrowded average homes, which had terrible living condition with bad lighting and
poor heating in the winter. Tuberculosis was one of the constant health problems for the immigrant
families that were forced on by economic circumstances to live in these homes. Other immigrant
families lived in small homes which was even more common in areas outside of the big northeastern
cities.
The Italian immigration of 1880 caused the economy in southern Italy and Sicily to decrease. Due to
over taxation on the southern part of Italy making the situation nearly impossible for most tenant
farmers, and small business. Multitudes chose to migrate rather than try to make out a bad life. Most
of the time the father and sometimes the oldest son would go before the whole family. Leaving the
mother and the rest of the family behind until the father and son could afford their passage.

  • 2. Cedar Point Essay Cedar Point Cedar Point is an amusement park visited by millions of people each year. I ve been to Cedar Point a few times in my life and I always had so much fun there. What I never realized though, was how long ago it opened. I also thought that Cedar Point had always been just an amusement park. Soon I found out that I was wrong on both counts! I learned that there is a lot more history of Cedar Point, the roller coaster capital of the world, than I thought. Before Cedar Point became the number one rated amusement park in the world, it was used mainly for hunting and fishing. Later, a bathhouse, a dance floor, a small beer garden, and the Grand Pavilion was added (Koehl). After that, it didn t take long for Cedar Point s very first roller coaster to be added! And so, the history of thrill rides for Cedar Point had begun (Park History). Throughout the years, Cedar Point has undergone many changes. In the Boeckling Era, George A. Boeckling expanded the park drastically from 1897 all the way until 1931 when he passed away. Boeckling opened hotels, added more rollercoasters, many different rides, a skating rink, a Coliseum, fortunetellers, and many other attractions. After Boeckling passed away, it wasn t until the late 50 s that Cedar Point made some more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New roller coasters were added, new records were broken, this amusement park got better each year. In the 70 s Cedar Point started to break roller coaster records. In fact, Cedar Point has had a number of world records. Whether it has to do with height, speed, or even the steepness, Cedar Point continues to break records still to this day. Since this amusement park is known for it s roller coasters, it s known as the roller coaster capital of the world! It has had more roller coasters throughout the years than any other amusement park. Not only does Cedar Point break roller coaster records, it has won many awards such as Best Amusement Park (Cedar Point ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. History Of Circuit City Company s Vision And Background... In this research paper I will describe the history of Circuit City business, who are their competitors, and when the company started and failed. In addition, research will state the company s vision and background information. Circuit City started in 1949 selling television out of a small town in Richmond, Indiana. It was started by Samuel S. Wurtzel who opened the first Wards Company retail store that quickly turned into a national store chain. The Wurtzel first experiment was in the early 1940s, after World War II, in which he introduced a new entertainment device. By introducing the this new entertainment device in 1949 had tripled in the number of TV stations in the United States. Wurtzel had a friend who knew someone at Olympic Television that was a small manufacturer in Long Island City, NY. The connections that Wurtzel used his new connections with bankers and business people in Richmond. Wurtzel decided to move his family from New York to Virginia. He started selling televisions out of the front half of the store on Broad Street, a few blocks west of downtown Richmond (Romero, 2014). The first name of the business was called Wards which were the names of the family; W for Wurtzel, A is for his son Alan, R for his wife named Ruth, and S is for Sam. Wurtzel approached the business in a different way instead of competing directly with the big department stores, his approach to cater for low income consumers by offering them installment plays so they can have a ... • 4. The And Social Context Of Europe During A Post World War... What is the role of consumerism in The Visit? This piece is a direct examination of consumerism. On a broader scheme, The Visit surveys the social context of Europe in a Post World War II environment. Like many play writers, Durrenmatt demonstrates that his play, like all cultural manifestations, is a product of the socioeconomic and hence ideological conditions of the time and place in which it was written, whether or not the author intended it so. Because human beings are themselves products of their socioeconomic and ideological environment, it is assumed that authors cannot help but create works that embody ideology of some form. (Tyson 66). The consequential setting was one of reconstruction of the nation state through finance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This encircling social framework of materialism and yield is insightful of the drama s thematic significance. It is also demonstrative of the perspective that administrates the development and expansion of all cultures and the persons within it. The townspeople slowly begin to accept the idea of consumerism and are depicted wearing new shoes. The possibility of so much capital seduces the town people into procuring services via credit, overlooking the penalties that may follow. Claire knows that, eventually, the townspeople will advance her plan for vengeance because of their present economic crisis and their desire for wealth. Who is commodified and how? Commodify can be defined as the ability to treat something that cannot be owned or that everyone has a right to like a product that can be bought and sold. Furthmore, many Marxist insights into human behavior involve the damaging effects of capitalism on human psychology, and those damaging effects often appear in our relationship to the commodity. For Marxism, a commdity s value lies not in what it can do (use value) but in the money or other commodities for which it can be traded (exchange value) or in the social status it confers on its owner (sign exchange value) (Tyson 62). In The Visit, Claire commodifies sex as an item that can be purchased. Claire, herself, was also commodified when she agreed to marry an old Armenian millionaire. The millionaire s ... • 5. Driftless Area I live in part of the upper Mid West known as the Driftless area. The terrain contains high bluffs and hills with narrow valleys. The Driftless area, unlike the rest of the Mid West, escaped the terrain smoothing, mineral depositing influences of the ice sheets during the glacial period (Jefferson, 2010). The bedrock contains limestone, sandstone and shale, and is exposed or near the surface making it popular for sand mining. About 95 present of the frac sand mining in the United State is done here. Driftless Area When the sandstone layer in the bedrock is broken down and crushed into individual granules it is called silica sand. This type of sand is very uniform, non porous and strong; it can maintain its shape when exposed ... Explosives are then used to break the bedrock apart. The unwanted rock such as the limestone and shale are stock piled to be used later for the reclamation process. Excavation equipment and dump trucks bring the sandstone to the crusher that is located on the mining site. The crusher breaks the sandstone chunks into individual sand grains. The sand has to be filtered to remove the smaller grains of sand that are not acceptable for fracking. The entire process causes a release of silica dust. Inhaling silica dust can lead to serious, sometimes fatal illnesses including silicosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis (in those with silicosis), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Silica exposure has also been linked to renal disease and other cancers. In 1996, the World Health Organization International Agency on Cancer Research (IARC) identified silica dust as a known human carcinogen (Center). Due to this risk factor the federal government regulates workers exposed to silica dust, but there are no limits set for the general public (Wisconsin). This is a big ... • 6. Essay On Teaching Style Introduction Teacher effectiveness has been an ongoing topic of interest among educational researchers for many years, with considerable focus given to the specific traits and behaviors that are believed to constitute effective teaching. There is no absolutely right or wrong method or technique to teach, and teachers need to change their approach in different circumstances. Different teachers may be required to use different teaching strategies and styles in the same situations due to the differences in their teaching styles, personality types, and beliefs in teachers abilities in improving learners achievement. Teaching style plays a vital role in the development of teachers professional expertise (Akbari, Mirhassani, Bahri, 2005). It is always persistent with teachers personality type and varies among individuals (Cooper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many studies stress the effect of teaching style on learners achievements (Conti, 1985; Miglietti Strange, 1998). Teaching style refers to a predilection toward teaching behavior and the congruence between educators teaching behavior and teaching beliefs (Heimlich Norland, 1994, p.34). In fact, teaching styles are reflections of a combination of teachers theoretical assumptions and actual teaching practice. Jarvis (2004) provides a more vivid account of teaching style and believes that a style is the totality of one s philosophy, beliefs, values, and behaviors, and it incorporates the full implementation of this philosophy; it consists of substantiation and support of beliefs about values and attitudes toward elements of the student learning and teacher learning exchange (p. 40). According to the results of the mentioned studies about teaching styles, it is obvious that by being aware of these styles, teachers can improve their effective teaching and their students learning by using the appropriate style in specific ... • 7. Painting Comparison Essay In both art and science, the uses of color tend to play a role in how temperature is perceived. For art blues can be perceived as cooler colors, while reds are perceived as warmer colors. But, while in science the color order is in reverse, reds are perceived as cooler colors, while blues are perceived as warmer colors. In this paper two different paintings will be discussed to see just how distinct colors are used to perceive temperature. The first painting that will be discussed is The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge by artist Andre Derain. Andre Derain was an artist that was a part of the Fauvism artistic movement. Fauvism artist emphasized intense colors over the representational and realistic values retained by artist of impressionism. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subject matter of romantic painters included landscapes, religion, revolution, and Woodburn 2 peaceful beauty. On the night of October 16, 1934, fire consumed the House of Parliament in London, and Turner decide to capture this event in his own view, and use the painting to represent man s helplessness when confronted with the destructive powers of nature. In Turner s painting of The Burning Houses of Lords and Commons, Turner shows just how important the right colors can be to give a painting a certain feeling. The yellow and orange colors that are used draw the focus to the center of the painting and this is Parliament on fire. The dark and dreary shades of the blues, and grays give the painting a sad and depressed feeling. Which is good because it helps to represent the message that Turner was trying to convey that man is helpless when confronted with the destruction of nature. From both of these paintings we can see how color can be used to represent different temperatures. In Andre Derain s painting The Houses of Parliament from Westminster Bridge, the different temperature of colors is used to give the feeling of brightness, warmth, and life. No matter what day and age you live in your going to have a routine. This play shows an example of two families and their daily routines. The whole play relates to routine even the different acts. Our Town takes place in Grover s Corner, New Hampshire around the turn of the century. (1900 s). This play uses a lot of flashbacks. There isn t much to the stage as I said they keep it simple, for example: for the wedding all they have are chairs set up in rows. The lighting is low making it easier for you to make your own stage with your imagination. This play could actually have two themes. Living life to the fullest, and appreciate the small things in life. I believe the author wrote this play to show that no matter what the time is or where you live your going to have a routine and the cycle of life. The theme is really developed when Rebecca is at the grave yard and goes back for her day of life. She realizes that she never appreciated things that mattered. The value of this play today is great because it relates to us as it will continue to do so for some time. I believe the title Our Town is good for this play. The point of this movement was for the society to reform on a new base such as emphasizing reason and individualism over tradition. In times of oppression and hardship seemingly strong leaders take up the mantle of becoming what seems like a revolutionary hero. In the case of Napoleon this meant ousting the dysfunctional rule of the Directory in revolutionary France. His campaign for power followed a rule of a tyrannical madman by the name of Robespierre, who ushered an age of absolute peril and most heinous of atrocities, murder. Countless of heads poured down the French streets during the Age of Terror. Although the Directory followed Robespierre s rule, there was little they did to help France recuperate. This is exemplified in The Wanderer when the narrator states I might find one who in mead hall might accept my affection, or on me, friendless, might wish consolation, offer me joy (Lines 27 29). This quote shows that the narrator in The Wanderer is searching for a king to serve because he has lost his. It is also shown that he finds support and joy in having a king to look towards for guidance. Likewise, in Beowulf his purpose is to serve a king that is not his own as stated in lines 415 426, So every elder and experienced councilman among my people supported my resolve come here to you, King Hrothgar, because all knew of my awesome strength. Goneril, one of King Lear s daughters, discovers that her sister, Regan, has a sexual desire for Edmund; therefore, Goneril poisons her own sister. However, once Edmund the Bastard is mortally wounded, Goneril kills herself and confesses that she poisoned Regan. Concept and Analysis: The motif of violence is evident in King Lear such as when Cornwall puts out Gloucester s eyes, and Goneril poisons her own sister and eventually kills herself. As Cornwall s servants captures Gloucester, Cornwall injures and punishes Gloucester as he thinks that Gloucester is a traitor. Gloucester seeks for help from the servants saying Give me some help! [As Servants hold the chair, Cornwall forces out one of Gloucester s eyes.] O cruel! O you god! (3. 7. 83 85). This reveals a motif of violence because it displays a violent act as the servant keeps hold of Gloucester while Cornwall disgustingly and violently puts out Gloucester s one eye. In addition, Regan is not satisfied with only one eye wounded; therefore, she states One side will mock another. • 23. The Tell Tale Heart And The Birth Mark Only A Couple Of... Contemporaries Edgar Alan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne published their respective short stories The Tell Tale Heart and The Birth Mark only a couple of months apart. The Tell Tale Heart is the personal account of a young man s descent into madness as he becomes increasingly fixated on the eye of an older man, presumably his father. Similarly, The Birth Mark narrates the story of a young couple, Aylmer and Georgiana, and how the latter s birthmark becomes the obsession of the former. Poe and Hawthorne s literary genre of Dark Romanticism opposes human perfectibility, and both writers employ symbolism, irony, similar characters and plot to convey the theme that obsessions will inevitably lead to destruction. The authors of American Romanticism held a particular disdain for science, which they made visible through the aggressor characters in their short stories. Both aggressors wanted to do away with any imperfections in their environments, as they felt personally threatened by them. The younger man in The Tell Tale Heart behaves in cold, calculated movements and dismembers the body of the old man like a butcher. In The Birth Mark Aylmer, a man of science, uses science in order to create a concoction that will remove his wife s birthmark. Champlin takes the position of a third person narrator, telling the story of Nero s life. He centers on how Nero presented himself to the public, as well as why and how he was so memorable a figure. Champlin argues that Nero was not an especially talented ruler, or a good person even, but that he was effective in his presentation to the Roman people, which is why he was able to stay in power for a number of years. The Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation From what I could see, there were not multiple roles to play in this simulation; instead, everyone logging into the simulation appears to play the same role, which was that of the distributor ordering products from the manufacturer and attempting to get them to the customers. This is an important point, because in many ways a distributor has greater flexibility than a retailer and a manufacturer, but, in other ways, faces far greater constraints than business people in other positions. The distributor s role is to get stuff from a manufacturer or other wholesaler and then distribute that stuff to resellers. From reading the instructions, it appears that there are actually different roles to play in the project, but I actually logged in from different computers to see if I would get to play another role in the game, but every time I ended up in the distributor role. • 33. Essay on Nasser and the United States In July 1952, the Egyptian government, headed by King Farouk, was overthrown in a bloodless coup led by the Free Officers, soon to be known as the Egyptian Revolutionary Command Council (RCC). The revolution was ostensibly led by Muhammad Naguib but it was clear that he was a mere figurehead and in a little over two years, Gamal Abdel Nasser would assume the Presidency. Although the goals of the RCC were somewhat unclear at the start, Nasser would embark on a policy of creating an independent Egypt free from internal and external domination. It was the latter goal that would set Nasser on a collision course with the West, initially Great Britain and to a lesser extent France, but eventually the United States. As such, Nasser s commitment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, the United States, in the midst of their conflict in Korea, could not have been more pleased. As Great Britain s power in the Middle East was waning, the contest between the United States and the Soviet Union increased in order to fill the vacuum of power left by the slowly vacating British. Immediately upon seizing power, the RCC showed a willingness to brutally suppress domestic communist activities. According to Yaqub: The Truman administration was enthusiastic about the new regime...The new government expressed a desire for friendly relations with the United States and cracked down on communist activists who had taken part in the anti British disturbances, prompting Moscow to denounce the regime as reactionary. The revolutionary regime in Egypt appeared to fulfill US aspirations in the Middle East in a sense that it was sufficiently opposed to communism and at the same time appeared to have generated popular sympathy. When in the fall of 1954 Nasser stated his willingness to align with the west while seeing the USSR as the only real threat to Egypt s independence, the United States responded by providing propaganda for Nasser s regime in Egypt and the Arab world. The appearance of solidarity, however, was soon to be tested. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Evolution Of A Common Single Celled Origin In the course of AP Biology, there are four Big Ideas . The first one is The process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life . The second is Biological systems utilize free energy and molecular building blocks to grow, to reproduce and to maintain dynamic homeostasis . The third is described as, Living systems store, retrieve, transmit and respond to information essential to life processes. And finally the four is biological systems interact, and these systems and their interaction possess complex properties . (College Board). Every organisms are descendents of each another, and are connected by the same family history. This causes the principle of Big Idea number one. All millions of diverse life forms have arrived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was judged that the polar bears evolved from the brown bears to become comfortable with the growing artic weather. One of the main causes of evolution within a species is the evolving to survive a new environment. And this is just what the polar bears did. So even though they are now completely different, they are linked together by the same family history (Harmon, Katherine). Another example of evolution would involve natural selection. Natural selection is a chief mechanism hidden (under) evolution, and it acts as a phenotypic honor/difference in populations; it kills off those species unfit to survive and if a gene is viewed as a hider, it is either changed or eventually evolved away. But there are those genes that are indifferent to the organism, it neither helps it nor hurts it. This is just like men s nipples. In a male s body, the nipples are of no importance, unlike in females who need them for sexual reproduction. But women and men are both the same species: humans. But we can see a major (many different kinds of people or things) within them: sexual organs, muscle tones, height, hormones, etc. So through the process of evolution that humans came to be, there is a grand of life between males and females. But yet, we are so alike in our brains, body functions, organs, limbs, etc. (Scientific American). All living systems need energy; organisms confine this energy for the in biological ... • 36. Greek Myth Of Icarus The Greek myth of Icarus goes as follows. In ancient Greece, there was a brilliant inventor named Daedalus. This man had a son named Icarus. They both lived on the island of Crete, which was ruled by a tyrant named King Minos. Wanting to escape from island with his son to avoid King Mino s wrath, Daedalus invented wings to fly across the sea with. As the only means of escape, Daedalus warned his son to neither fly too high to the sun and too low to the sea. As the two made their escape, Icarus had forgotten his father s warning. He enjoyed the feeling of flying too much and soared higher and higher towards the sun. Eventually, he came too close to the sun and his wings melted. He plummeted towards the earth, where he fell to the sea and drowned. Stricken with grief at the loss of his son, Daedalus built a temple to the god Apollo and offered the wings he made as tribute. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Daedalus was a genius, his invention invaded a domain that belonged solely to the gods. In Greek mythology, only the Gods were allowed to fly. I believe it was also a lesson in humility. The warning Daedalus gave Icarus about flying too high could be analogous with knowing your limits or not wanting too much. However, in a painting done by Bruegel on the subject of Icarus, he paints the whole ordeal rather as insignificant. A religious man that lived in the 16th century, Bruegel s painting downplays the Greek gods in that they are only mythical and that the punishment Icarus receives was neither important nor divine. I think this illustrates that while myths may just be fantasy stories to amuse ourselves with, at one point they were someone else s religion. It s not a stretch of the imagination to think that no religion is immune from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
