Tijs Michiel Verwest, born 17 January 1969 in Breda, Netherlands is a Dutch DJ and
record producer, better known by this stage name Tiësto. Formerly known as DJ Tiësto
but is now known simply as Tiësto. The stage name is a twist of his childhood
nickname. The music he produces are generally associated with the the genres Big
Room House, EDM, trance, progressive house. The record labels he has been in are
Musical Freedom, Spinnin' Records, PM:AM Recordings, Republic Records, Casablanca
Records, Universal. He has been active in the music industry since 1994 to present
time.
How His Fame Began
• In 1997, he founded the label Black Hole Recordings with Arny Bink. This is where he
released the Magik and In Search of Sunrise CD series.
• In 1998, Tiësto met producer Dennis Waakop Reijer. Both Tiësto and the producer
have worked together extensively since then.
• In 1999 and 2000 Tiësto collaborated with Ferry Corsten to create Gouryella.
• His 2000 remix of Delerium's "Silence" featuring Sarah McLachlan exposed him to
many mainstream audiences.
• By 2001, he released his first solo album named In My Memory. This album gave

Albums" in the U.S. and received a nomination for a Grammy Award in 2008.
• Tiësto released his fourth studio album Kaleidoscope in 2009. He won the Grammy
Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remixed version of John
Legend's hit "All Of Me" at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.

composer, musician and record producer. He is commonly known by his stage name
Martin. Within the music industry he is associated with genres such as EDM, electro
house, big room house and progressive house. The record labels he is associated are
