This document discusses IP interfaces for video production and summarizes the benefits of IP-based systems compared to SDI. It provides examples of IP-enabled video switchers and control systems from Sony and Grass Valley. The rest of the document discusses standards organizations and specifications that enable IP interoperability such as SMPTE ST 2110, AES67, and AIMS. It also summarizes IP routing and processing platforms like Grass Valley's GV Node and control systems like Lawo's VSM.
Best practices in synchronizing IP-based packet broadcasting networksADVA
As broadcast networks migrate away from SDI-based-infrastructures, best practices need to be established for the synchronization of newer, IP-based packet networks. Luis Gonzales' WSTS presentation explored the need for robust architectures and examined deployment scenarios that leverage GNSS and PTP timing technologies to provide accuracy and protect broadcast networks against external threats.
Video coding is an essential component of video streaming, digital TV, video chat and many other technologies. This presentation, an invited lecture to the US Patent and Trade Mark Office, describes some of the key developments in the history of video coding.
Many of the components of present-day video codecs were originally developed before 1990. From 1990 onwards, developments in video coding were closely associated with industry standards such as MPEG-2, H.264 and H.265/HEVC.
The presentation covers:
- Basic concepts of video coding
- Fundamental inventions prior to 1990
- Industry standards from 1990 to 2014
- Video coding patents and patent pools.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Sachpazis:Terzaghi Bearing Capacity Estimation in simple terms with Calculati...Dr.Costas Sachpazis
Terzaghi's soil bearing capacity theory, developed by Karl Terzaghi, is a fundamental principle in geotechnical engineering used to determine the bearing capacity of shallow foundations. This theory provides a method to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of soil, which is the maximum load per unit area that the soil can support without undergoing shear failure. The Calculation HTML Code included.

– ST 2022-x standards take payloads from specialized electrical interfaces and puts them on IP
using RTP (The electrical interfaces are ASI and SDI) (Over 75 of mappings into MPEG TS)
ST 2022-x standards Overview
22. 22
ST 2022-6: SDI over RTP
–SMPTE 2022-6 is the most common uncompressed video format
–2022-6 can be thought of as intra-facility or transport from one broadcast core to another.
–It contains all the elements of current SDI
23. – RTP packets replicated for transmission on multiple diverse paths
– Recoverable if at least one copy makes it through one path, within receiver buffer limitations
– SMPTE ST 2022-7 Seamless protection of ST 2022 IP Datagrams
– Originally for SMPTE ST 2022-6 streams.
23
ST 2022-7: Seamless Protection Switching (Redundancy)
24. SMPTE ST 2110 Professional Media over IP Infrastructure
24
25. SMPTE ST 2110 – 10 (System Timing – RTP, SMPTE ST 2059, SDP)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 20 (Uncompressed Video – RFC 4175)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 21 (Performance of transmitters – packet pacing, bursts, gaps)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 30 (Uncompressed Audio – AES67)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 31 (Compressed Audio – non-PCM/AES3, Guardband aware, stereo)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 40 (Ancillary Data – VANC based on IETF ANC 291)
SMPTE ST 2110 – 50 (SMPTE ST 2022-6 Essence, Support for legacy SMPTE ST 2022-6 infrastructure)
25
The SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards!
27. SMPTE 2110 (TR-03/04)
– Video, Audio and Data are ALL separate streams using RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol)
– For Audio processing, the audio is simply picked up, processed and sent outbound
– Note that this doesn’t require an inherent embedding and de-embedding
27Session Description Protocol
28. SMPTE 2059
• ST 2059 specifies the phase of a given frame rate (sequence) at a specific instant in the past, called the SMPTE
epoch .

– Which standards and specifications enable the JT-NM Reference Architecture
– How the range of underlying technologies is expected to evolve
– When it is expected that those standards and specifications be widely available to build
