 Established on 7th july 1948
 The MTPS under the DVC is the
second largest thermal power plant in
West Bengal
 It has the capacity of 2340MW with 8
units
 Another two units of 500MW is in
construction it will be the largest in
West Bengal

PLANTIn De-mineralised Plant, the filter water of Water Treatment Plant is passed through
the pressure sand filter(PSF) to reduce turbidity and then through Activated Charcoal
Filter(ACF) to absorb the residual chlorine and iron in filter water.

11. ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATOR(ESP)
The precipitator has two sets of electrode insulated from each other that maintain on
electrostatic field between them at high voltage. The field ionizes dust particles that
pass through it, attracting them to the electrode of opposite charge.

16. CHIMNEY
A chimney may be considered as a hollow tower made of bricks or steel. In MTPS the
chimneys of eight units are made of bricks. Chimneys are used to release the exhaust
gfases (coming from the furnace of the boiler) high up the atmosphere. So,the hight of
the chimneys are made high.

17. CONCLUSION
 The practical experience that we have gathered during the overview of training of
large thermal power plant having a large capacity of 2340MW for unit #1 to 8 in three
weeks will be very useful as a stepping stone in building bright proffessional career in
future life.
