Darren 7.1 years, is receiving Occupational
Therapy since last two years.
Started with Therapeutic Listening from 24th April
2013.

Parents Concern Areas:1.
Handwriting issues
Spacing in between words,

Difficulty in copying from the board
independently.

Wants to stay aloof,

Difficulty in playing kids of his age,

Throwing objects,
 Biting himself when he is corrected for some
activities,
 Dislikes touch and hug from unknown people,
 Difficulty in getting adjusted to new environment
at relatives or others house.
 Has difficulty in language expression flat monotonous voice
 Sometimes there is difficulty in expressing
emotions verbally

Tactile issues- dislikes tooth brushing, haircuts
and nail trimming.
Oral Motor - seeking shows- sucking of fingers
and putting toys in mouth, biting toys
Visual issues-Copying from chalkboard to
paper, Short attention span in reading

reading, Rereads or skips words sometimes.
Auditory issues- Can hear sounds of motorbike &
helicopter when they are very far.
Oversensitive to pain.
Dislikes fish odor.




Child listened to two CD’s-first CD was selected
according to the information filled in the functional
listening questionaire.
Subsequent CD’s were selected on the information
filled in the follow up forms.











function, Partho doesn’t sit at one place. He either
runs or lies on the ground.
4. Social Interaction-Exhibits aggressive behavior
like pinching and hitting.
5. Daily Environment-Not able to tolerate loud
sounds like of crackers or loud speakers. Closes
his ears with his fingers
6. Play Skills- Avoids messy activities
7.School Skills/Visual Related Skills- Struggles with: Copying from board to paper
 Reverses letters
 Uses too much of graded pressure
 Not able to stabilize paper while drawing/writing.

 Confusion between Left and Right

 Doesn’t exhibit safety awareness

Completed 15 sessions of listening 5 days a week
for 30 mins.

Urbi, a 10.4 year old girl diagnosed with
Autism
Has been taking therapy for 5 years
Therapeutic listening started recently
Initial evaluation- Functional listening

Main parental concerns:
 Motor skills
 Baby talking
 Difficulty in understanding
 Spinning around herself











Additional questions in the FLQ revealed the following
things:
Required too much sleep- at least 10 hours
She gagged on foods
Does not like same type of foods, wants a variety
everyday
Difficulty sucking though a straw
Avoids tooth brushing, hair brushing, face washing
Lack of safety awareness
Poor fine motor skills such as drawing, coloring,
handwriting
Poor visual perceptual skills such as reading
comprehension, tracking a moving object


Completed 15 sessions of listening to the first CD.

Changes seen at home:
 Some disorganization seen in terms of:
 Holding mothers hand even when sleeping, does
not want to part with mom
 Become very moody, will beat her brother without
any reason
Positive changes as reported by mother:
 Smell sense increased
 Has become more aware, grown sensitive towards
incidental touch
 Spinning around herself has decreased a lot
 Fine motor skills better than before, now can finger
count, tie her lace
 Tries to sing in different pitches and tone







Prenatal – Placenta Previa,
Natal – C – section , premature delivery ( at 8
months & 3 days )
Post natal – kept in incubator for 4 days, Seizure
and high fever at the age of 8 months,
Mother claims to have noticed symptoms at the age
of one and half years when he started being lost
and his speech decreased considerably.










In the areas of Attention , Speech, Eye contact and
Socialisation.
Easily going from whimper to intense cry,
Atypical repetitive behaviours like Visual fixing ,
Spinning , Clapping etc.
Struggle playing with other kids ( playing alongside
other children)
Struggle with Drawing , colouring , copying , using
too much of pressure
Having irritation with noisy appliances like hair
Dryer and Blender ( switches it off)
Difficulty in sitting still




Utkarsh listened to four CD’s and each time this
was decided on the basis of the follow up forms
given by the parents.
Therapeutic Listening was given to the child for 15
sessions and each session consisted of 30 minutes
of continuous listening.










