5. As the film's set in a stylized 70s
interpretation - they decided to get the
poster to pick up on this using the colour,
the costumes, the props and the layout.
With the colours they heavily stole a
colour scheme and layout that would be
heavily associated with the time.
To let the audience know that this is an
action-film they've added an explosion in
the background; with the male cast (in
which are displayed on the poster,) armed
with guns; where's the rest of the cast
(the female side of the cast) are made to
look more appealing – telling us this is an
action film more likely to be aimed at a
male audience.
6. This film poster is kept very simplistic and
given a very limited pallet of colour.
However with it's lack of detail it gets us
to focus on the lead character (on the
poster.) As well as this the lack of
colour tells us that the film will be of a
more serious tone.
To go with the match of the title
("Submarine" - though the film isn't about
submarines,) there is a blue block filling
half the page to play with this concept as
an idea.
7. A big bit of the poster's focus is put on the
red car being chased by the police. This is
done by dedicating the bottom half of the
poster to this one particular scene – (this
show the importance of what the
character "Baby" does.) We can also
identify that this character ("Baby") is an
outcast as he's shown wearing earphones
and shades – showing him to be quite
isolated from the others who are depicted
as crimals. Also using the colour schemes,
it's hinted that the two characters
"Deborah" and "Baby" have some kind of
connection as they share a black and
white colour scheme, whilst facing in the
same direction.
Furthermore the layout is set out like a
vintage heist film-poster to (again) reflect
on the events of the film.
8. Soundtrack
• Clip 1
– This provided a both dramatic and
tense depiction of the picture. As it
builds tension and suspense by
increasing the pace.
• Clip 2
– The second clip of music set a
romantic setting between the
two characters.
9. Shining
– They use a warm, friendly voice to narrate the
trailer to make it more inviting.
– For the music they used an upbeat tune matched
with family friendly visuals. This gives the
audience both a positive and happy vibe from the
film.
10. Scary Mary
– They keep the audience on the edge of their seats
through the duration of trailer by making all the
clips quick and snappy. Because it's so quick it
makes the viewer think fast – this builds tension
for the viewers.
– To apply to the impact the clips are darkened with
the occasional white flash in attempt to startle the
audience.
– For the audio they've applied old and creepy
sound affects rather than actual audio to create
further suspense on top of the suspenseful music.

from different times to form an over-arked story.
18. Clip Analysis
• They've used a high use of the colours red
(evil) and blue (good.) Because of these
schemes we can easily define: who's who;
Who's good, who's bad and which side they're
on...
• To expand of this the music is tense to inform
the audience that there's stake in this fight.
