Soundtrack
• Clip 1
– For the first clip, I believe it could go
with either the horror or action genre;
these genres use music to build up
tension and that’s what this music does.
In horror movies the tension is normally
used for jump scares and in action, for a
decision or perhaps drastic movement
• Clip 2
– And for this clip, I would place it in a
romance, musical or even science
fiction. The music has a magic feeling
about it and this can be used for any of
these genres
Shining
The editor of this video has cleverly used clips from the original
The Shining and mixed them with a new voice over and more
positive music that what is in the film. They turned the story of
The Shining (about a man turning mad after finding out secrets
of a hotel and then trying to murder is family) into a story of a
man loving and caring for his family while struggling with work.
The change of tone works well with some of the original audio
clips from the movie also, as the editor managed to make the
characters talk to each other with clips from different parts of
the film.
Scary Mary
The first thing to notice in this edit is the corrupted
version of Mary Poppins’s singing and how that
immediately creates a sense of tension and creepiness,
and is very abnormal to people who know the song.
The video then shows clips from the film but distorted
and out of place, for instance a clip of Mary Poppins
spinning her head around but repeated to look like she
is possessed with demonic chanting in the background.

Narrative
• Narrative Definition
– A spoken or written account of entwined events that make a story
• Linear Narrative Definition
– One single line of narrative
• Linear Narrative Film Example
– Most films use this kind of story telling as it is easier to understand and
wont start any confusion. A film like Toy Story (1995) has a linear narrative
as it starts at the beginning and plays the rest of the movie in order
• Non-Linear Narrative Definition
– Tells the story but in a different order
• Non-Linear Narrative Film Example
– Forrest Gump (1994) has a non linear narrative as the start of the film is
near the end of the story and the rest of it is told in flashbacks about his life
Clip Analysis
• The costumes each character each represent what that character stands
for and their traits. This is apparent as the enemy in this scene, Darth
Vader, is wearing all black to symbolise darkness and the dark side of the
force. Our protagonists are contrasting this by wearing brighter, more calm
colours. Costumes are important as it creates a universal understanding of
a characters morals and place in the media.
• The props used. Such as the weapons in the clip (Lightsabers & Blasters)
show the conflict between good and bad in action. This emphasises the
‘War’ part of the series thus the franchise in general
• The dark and moody lighting of the background sets the scene for this
fight and also goes well for clashing with the fluorescents of the
lightsabers' colours, focusing attention on the streaks of blue and red
Clip Analysis
• The video is edited to show the fight from different perspectives. From
Kanan and Ezra fighting Darth Vader then to other rebels fighting some
stormtroopers with their blasters, firing between the battleground of the
scene. This style manages to fill in gaps of major bits of films and tv shows.
• The music is tense and dramatic for the close-combat moments however,
quietens when on the other characters screen-time. The music matches
the style of the old Star Wars movies and catches the nostalgic orchestra-
essence.
• Lines like “do you feel that” and “if that doesn’t kill him what will?”
emphasise the pure power that is felt from Darth Vader’s presence
