1. What is the difference
between theatrical and
teaser trailers?

2. Trailers
• A trailer commercial for a feature film that will be
exhibited in the future at a cinema.
• Trailers consist of a series of selected shots from the
film being advertised. Since the purpose of a trailer is
to attract an audience to the film they normally
contain the most exciting parts of the film however
should not reveal too much of the plot.
• In a teaser trailer the producers are trying to ‘tease’
the potential target audience about the film in order
to catch their interest.
• Later on in the development stages of the film, a
more depth trailer will be released. This is referred to
as a theatrical trailer.

3. Teaser Trailers
• A teaser trailer has a shorter duration than a
theatrical trailer. A teaser trailer lasts around a
minute and a half as in early stages of production
they don’t have enough footage.
• Also, if an audience is given too much footage
they may guess the plot and therefore choose not
to watch it.

4. Theatrical Trailers
• Contrasting with a teaser trailer, a
theatrical trailer has a longer duration of
two and a half minutes. The film is in its
final stages of editing and development,
therefore has more material to work with
and more shots t show.
• A theatrical trailer is also shown closer to
the release date than a teaser trailer.
