What is a trailer?
What is it´s prupose?
• A trailer is an advertisment for an
upcoming film , shown at the strt of
feature film, hence the name trailer.
However, this didnt last long as many
people would leave after the film had
ended.
• Trailers have also become a popular
feature on dvd and blu-ray, along with
internetand on mobile devices. Trailers
are a popular feature that people watch a
lot .
• A trailer tells a story of the film, in a
abreviated format, without giving away too
much, and without showing the ending.
• A trailer is a series of selected shot, the
finniest/scariest/best clips from the film.
However , these are abbreviated to avoid
ruinning the overll plot, and leaving enough
for the audience to want to go and see the
film. These clips aren´t necessarily shown in
order, to enshure that the pot isn´t given
away.
• Most trailers tend to be less than 2 minutes
30 seconds, as this is just enough time to
show the audience a brief summary of the
film, and capture their attention.
• Some trailers are made os ´special shoot
footage´ .This is specially created for the
trailer, so that nothing from the film is
given away, but the audience is intrgued,
therefore going to see the film. An examle of
this is the trailer for the 1960 film
´physco, where Alfred Hitchcock was filmed
giving a tour of the hotel used in the film .
Physco Trailer.
Breakdown of a trailer
• Most trailers are made up of a three part
structure
• Part 1
• A beginning that sets up the story to the
audience.
• Part 2
• Drives the story further and usually ends with a
climax
• Part 3
• Is usually a visual montage of powerful and
emotional moments from the film, fetures a strong/
recognisable priece f music, and will often show
some key actors and actresses
• A voice will also often be used to give a brief,
necessary explanation to what is happening.
