The Sun is a tabloid newspaper founded in 1964 that was originally a broadsheet but became a tabloid in 1969 when it was purchased by its current owners. It had the largest circulation of any daily newspaper in the UK until 2013 when it fell to second largest Saturday newspaper. The Sun has regional editions in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland. It has faced controversies over headlines celebrating casualties of war and for attempting to disgrace political parties during the 2015 UK general election in ways seen as biased and irrelevant.

 Founded in 1964 as a successor broadsheet to the
Daily Herald, it became a tabloid in 1969 after it was
purchased by its current owners.
 The Sun had the largest circulation of any daily
newspaper in the United Kingdom, but in late 2013
slipped to second largest Saturday newspaper
behind the Daily Mail. It had an average daily
circulation of 2.2 million copies in March 2014.
 Regional editions of the newspaper for Scotland,
Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are
published in Glasgow (The Scottish Sun), Belfast
(The Sun) and Dublin (The Irish Sun). 1,858,067
daily as of March 2015.

 Like many other newspapers, The Sun has its own
website (thesun.co.uk) where many are able to view the
newspaper online rather than buy a print based edition.
 Print based newspaper is made available by The Sun
which again has a circulation of 1.8 million daily around
the UK which remains The Sun’s biggest source of profits.
 One of the paper's best known front pages, published on
4 May 1982, celebrated the torpedoing of the Argentine
ship the General Belgrano by running the headline
"GOTCHA”.
 The headline was changed for later editions after the
extent of Argentinian casualties became known. John
Shirley, a reporter for The Sunday Times, witnessed
copies of this edition of The Sun being thrown overboard
by sailors and marines on HMS Fearless.

election where the newspaper attempted
to disgrace most the parties at individual
times suited to the paper, as a result
