The document discusses differences in how males and females respond to stress. It describes the "fight-or-flight response" seen more in males, triggered by hormones like testosterone that prepare the body for fighting or fleeing danger. In contrast, the "tend-and-befriend response" is more common in females, who respond to stress by caring for offspring and seeking social support. The document also speculates on why Neanderthals went extinct while homo sapiens survived, with theories including climate change, interbreeding until absorption into the human genome, and the possibility that homo sapiens killed off Neanderthals by viewing them as competition.

Nature VS Nurture
Abstract
Nature vs Nurture is one of the oldest arguments known to the Psychology genre. For those who do not know; simply put, the underlying question is, can behaviors be inherited? Initially, upon answering the question without any regard to the actual research and experiments done in this field a conclusion was drawn that Nature outweighs Nurture and that the behaviors of men are innate in that they are inherited genes that have influence over our behaviors. Upon further investigation and deeper insight, it is of my belief that the behaviors of men are based not solely on the behavior of their parents and their genetic makeup but also, by socioeconomic, traditional, educational, religious, and many other external factors. This paper will demonstrate the multiple schools of thought and their perspective on behaviorism, specifically when it comes to the argument of Nature vs Nurture. These perspectives will be used in order to justify the position that was previously stated, that the behaviors of men are influenced not only by their biology but also by their upbringing and multiple external factors.
Nature versus Nurture is one of the oldest debates within Psychology. It is concerned with the extent to which aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited (i.e., genetic) or acquired (i.e., learned) characteristics. Previous to delving into this topic I took the stance that Nature outweighed Nurture and that human behaviors were innate in that they were solely influenced by one’s genetic makeup. After vigorous research on the topic an attempt to take the stance that aspects of behavior are a product of inherited characteristics. Most people no matter what their upbringing and socioeconomical positions are prone to specific types of behaviors due to their genetic makeup. Within this argumentative essay, the attempt to write about Nature vs Nurture taking the perspective that human behaviors are derived from a combination of the two. The plan is to investigate multiple schools of thought in regards to the topic in order to prove the theory which was previously stated; human behaviors are a product of both genetic and environmental influences.
Within the world of biology, it is widely known that physical characteristics as well as one’s vulnerability to certain illnesses are because of one’s genetic makeup. It is of no surprise that one may share the color their mother’s eyes while inheriting their father’s diabetes. If you are a male, you may be prone to balding in your early 30’s just as your father did and women whose mother suffered from Breast Cancer have a higher likelihood of acquiring the same illness. Understanding how genetics works and now knowing how its functioning contributes to physical attributes as well as biological ailments, the question of whethe.

SEX AND GENDER
Learning Outcomes
At the end of this chapter you will be able to do the following.
Differentiate between sex and gender.
Define gender roles, gender role socialization, and gender role identify.
Compare females’ life experiences to that of males.’
Examine the Men’s Movement.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEX AND GENDER?
By far, sex and gender have been two of the most
socially significant factors in the history of the
world and the United States. Sex is one’s
biological classification as male or female, which is
biologically determined at the moment the sperm
fertilizes the egg. Sex can be precisely defined at
the genetic level with XX being female and XY
being male. The main difference between sexes is
the reproductive body parts assigned to each
(including their functions and corresponding
hormones).
Males and females have much more in common than they have differences. Every major
system of the human body functions in very similar ways to the point that health
guidelines, disease prevention and maintenance, and even organ transplants are very
similar and guided under a large umbrella of shared guidelines. True, there are medical
specialists in treating men and women, but again the similarities outweigh the differences.
Today you probably ate breakfast, took a shower (hopefully), walked in the sunlight,
sweated, slept, used the bathroom, was exposed to germs and pathogens, grew more hair
and finger nails, exerted your muscles to the point that they became stronger, and felt and
managed stress. So did every man and woman you know and in very similar ways.
So, why the big debate of the battle of the sexes? Perhaps it’s because of the impact of
gender, the cultural definition of what it means to be a man or a woman. In other words,
gender is socialized behaviors prescribed for society’s members based on their sex.
Therefore, sex=male, female and gender=masculine, feminine. Gender is culturally-based
and varies in a thousand subtle ways across the many diverse cultures of the world.
Gender has been shaped by political, religious, philosophical, linguistic, traditional, and
other cultural forces for many years. To this day, in most countries of the world women
and girls are still oppressed and denied access to opportunities more often than men and
boys. This can be seen through many diverse historical documents. When reading these
documents, the most common theme of how women were historically oppressed in the
world’s societies is the omission of women as being legally, biologically, economically, and

women were somehow broken versions of men or lesser beings than men.1

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
1. HOW DO WE, MODERN
PEOPLE HANDLE STRESS?
ARE THERE SOME DIFFERENCES BETWEEN
WHICH STRESS MECHANISMS ARE
INVOLVED IN THIS PROCESS?
MEN AND WOMEN WHEN IT COMES
TO HANDLING THE STRESS?
3. CAUSES OF THESE MECHANISMS
Women : Tend and be friend mechanism refer to the behavioural
response of managing stress by caring for offspring and social
support. Human females are more likely than males tend to and
seek support from others in times of stress.
Human males show higher level of the physical fight responses
than females in contrast to males, females have lower levels of
circulating androgen such as testosterone which are associated
with aggression. This can be the main reason why often the
women do not fight a lot compared to men.
Men: A person’s reaction to anything is controlled by the
secretion of hormones such as oestrogen and testosterone. The
fight of flight response is an inborn reflex which is responsible for
the body’s reaction to excessive stress. Hypothalamus which
regulates the homeostasis in the body releases chemical signals
that prepare us for fighting or running away from something that
can be suspected to be dangerous and threat our survival in any
way.
4. FIGHT OR FLIGHT RESPONSE
Let’s imagine a situation when a male feels
danger and look at his body’s response to this in
some details.
When a male feels threatened by someone or
something the chemicals like adrenaline and
cortisol are released by the pituitary gland in is
brain. As a consequence of this the human
starts to breath faster and the blood is used in his
muscles & limbs because these parts of the body
are essential when it comes to running or
fighting. Consequently the male in question will
need more energy to perform these actions and
therefore his impuls will quicken and he will look
for danger.
5. THE CONTINUATION..
The male is question is likely to become
more paranoid and suspicious when his
fight-or-flight system is activated. He will
probably loose the ability to feel content
with his position in life and acquire a
negative outlook on events that will take
place in the environment around him.
This reaction has been present for a
vitally long time since it is proven that
modern humans respond to stress in a
similar way to other homo-sapiens.
6. TEND-AND-BEFRIEND RESPONSE
What if a mother would not
stay back and just use fight-
flight mechanism? Then the
children would be attacked by
the enemies and no one would
be able to take care of them.
Like we can see in history
most women stayed back to
take care of the children while
the men went out and hunted
for them ago provide food for
their families. As a group they
also used to protect each other
the weak ones and the brave
ones.
The situation is totally different
nowadays, let us say the woman is in
office because most women obviously
work to support their families in the
generation that we live in, so if the boss
stresses them they won’t call her kids
or her husband to fight him she will
simply quit the job and look for another
one.
7. THE CONTINUATION
Let us talk about depending on men, it is different now days the women also
have to be independent and support herself if she can. She do not have to
stay and look after kids anymore, we also have kinder garden schools we
can take the kids to be looked after and educate them at early age. And also
if we feel stressed now days we have therapist that we can talk to and feel
more free because we just talked about our stress compared to old age
period they did not had that time of listening to each other problem and there
was not too much compared to now. We can also use google and get
answers from there. The situation is totally different from the past but the
common thing is we all had stress.
8. AN IMPORTANT FACT :
While observing humans’ reactions to stress it
is important to remember the fact that males
and females have fairly different responses to
stress.
This can depend on the genetic differences
between a male’s and a female’s body, but
also the environmental that they live in and
their daily responsibilities. Some males have a
responsibility to protect their families
physically and the excess of certain chemical
substances that are released in the body
during an activated fight-or-flight response
makes males heroic.
9. WHY DID THE HOMO-SAPIENS
SURVIVE AND NOT THE
NEANDERTHALS?
WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF THE NEANDERTHAL
10. WHAT HAPPENED TO NEANDERTHALS?
It was believed that we Homo-sapiens whipped
the Neanderthals out of existent. The modern
human
is a very curious and social species and its believed
that we interact with the Neanderthals and shared
DNA. In comparison to the Neanderthals the Homo-
sapiens are very good at adapting, one theory that is
said is that the Neanderthals went extinct because of
the gradual or dramatic climate change. Another
theory is that they didn't go extinct but simply that
we interbred with them until they were absorbed
into our DNA.
11. WHAT WOULD THE WORLD HAVE LOOKED LIKE IF
THE NEANDERTHALS HAD SURVIVED?
As our ancestor “took over the world” they started the first most radical
and most important ethnic cleansing in history, and all this shaped all
subsequent events in history. Imagine what the world would have
looked like, what history would have looked like if the Neanderthals
manage to survive alongside us. Imagine the bible, the Roman Empire,
the Industrial Revolution or our present day where you have the
Neanderthals alongside the Homo-sapiens. Try to imagine what religion
would have looked like, what would the bible had said about the
creation of Adam and Eve, are the Neanderthals descendant of Adam
and Eve or not? And what happens after we die? When we go to
heaven or hell. Do only Homo-sapiens go to heaven? What would
happen to the Neanderthals? Would they go to heaven to or hell?
Similar to this try to think about modern Britain if in addition to all the
other division and conflicts between rich and poor, between different
ethnic groups, between citizens and immigrants and the most basic
division of all between the Homo-sapiens and the Neanderthals.
12. A THEORY ABOUT THE EXTINCTION
OF THE NEANDERTHALS
One of the theories for the extinction of the neanderthals is
that the modern humans killed all the neanderthals. that
would suggest that when the modern humans reached
Europe and saw the neanderthals they might have felt
threatened and fought for food and land. the modern
humans were more social and better and adapting at
changes , this can be the reason why modern humans
survived the climate change, were better at fighting and
killed all the neanderthals.
