The role of the educator in the integrated classroom is a new movement that brings energy and
dynamic to the learning experience and enables the learners to think more and collaborate
effectively. Because of the new methods and technology tools that are available, facilitators
will be able to meet the needs of all students and find ways to help the diversity within the learning
environment. Therefore creating a social learning environment will encourage collaboration, will
produce ideas, and share user-generated content.

  • 11. Technology in the 21st century caters to the learning styles within the social learning communities. The role of the educator in the integrated classroom is a new movement that brings energy and dynamic to the learning experience and enables the learners to think more and collaborate effectively. Because of the new methods and technology tools that are available, facilitators will be able to meet the needs of all students and find ways to help the diversity within the learning environment. Therefore creating a social learning environment will encourage collaboration, will produce ideas, and share user-generated content.

  1. Social learning is a way to reframe learning, to take it “from a passive activity done to learners to an active and very human activity that enables people to build upon their individual and collective potential” (Conner, 2014, pg 6).
  2. Having the right tools and structures in place is essential when using social learning to train employees. It helps the employees to communicate better and collaborate with others as well as retain critical information, which helps the organization function more effectively. Incorporating social learning into the strategic plan will enable employees to engage with others, build morale, and knowledge retention will increase.
  3. There should be rules and guidelines in place; remember that whatever is posted online leaves a digital footprint. “The way in which the human user represents the self in cyberspace is fascinating, complex and with respect to our human nature, ultimately revealing,” (Brunskill, 2013).
  4. Because of the popularity of social media it is essential that employees are equipped to exchange ideas, share opinions and seek feedback to build a knowledge base that enable them to learn from one another. “Revitalizing and possibly even reinventing the culture of organizations and the way they do business is key to achieving increased levels of workplace productivity and employee satisfaction” (Muenen & Nyaribo, 2013, p. 141
  5. Organizations must know how to leverage the tools, knowledge and resources they have in order to minimize risks to the individual and organization, maximize the potential of employees and this will achieve the desired development and learning goals.
