Editor's Notes

  • #2 Most Christians understand that vision is vital. We’ve read in the Bible that where there’s no vision people perish. Knowing how to cast a vision and make it stick within our classroom is also crucial, but it’s not always that simple. The following concepts are summarized from Andy Stanley’s book Making Vision Stick. I hope you will be inspired to implement this concepts within your classroom, groups, and ministry with your students.
  • #3 There are many definitions of vision. Maybe you have your own. This one is pretty simple and accurate: Vision: A mental picture of what could be, fueled by a passion that it should be.
  • #5 Have you noticed that unless you constantly cast the vision for your organization or ministry, it leaks… until one day people begin to wonder why they are doing what they are doing. The primary role of a leader is to make sure vision sticks.
  • #7 If your vision is going to stick, then you must be able to state it in a moment. You’re trying to create a simple idea that every student or teacher has in mind as theguiding goal.If you and your team (students or colleagues) cannot state the mission simply and quickly, the vision will leak. People love coming up with vision statement, but unless they are memorable and succinct, they will just get files away.
  • #9 If you are going to cast the vision convincingly, a. Define the problemb. Offer a solutionc. Explain why and why now.
  • #10 Number #3: you must repeat it regularlyRegardless of how often you think you’ve repeated your vision, it’s not enough.Discover within the rhythm of your classroom or department the best time to cast vision andmake sure you don’t miss those opportunities.Reflection: Is your vision emphasized and repeated regularly?
  • #11 Step #4: Celebrate it systematicallyVision is about the future. There aren’t any photos or artwork available of it. Whensomeone embodies the vision, use that person’s example to underscore yourvision and values.Reflection: How often do you or your organization celebrate when vision materializes?
  • #12 Step #5: Embrace it personally (and publicly)Embracing the vision personally and publicly gives you credibility. If you’re notdoing what you’re demanding, then your people won’t be motivated.Vision has no autopilot. It requires constant care and attention.
