How has the role and function of product management evolved over the years? In this talk, I have shared my notes from my personal journey over the last 25 years.
The Agile Manifesto in the Star Wars UniverseAaron Griffith
What better way to study the Agile Manifesto, than in the fun and easily understandable context of Star Wars?!
When discussing the Agile Manifesto it some times help to put it in easily understandable terms. What better way to do that, than presenting the Agile Manifesto in the context of Star Wars. This talk looks at the Agile Manifesto and using examples from the Star Wars Universe shows the similarities and differences in the way the Rebel Alliance and Empire put the Agile Manifesto into practice. Those new to Agile Software Development will find it a light hearted, fun, and easily understood explanation of the Agile Manifesto and Agile Principles in the context of Star Wars. Agile veterans that are already familiar with the Agile Manifesto will get a better understanding and new perspective that is meant to be interesting and humorous.
Key Learnings
At a minimum attendees at this talk will become aware of the Agile Manifesto in a fun and interesting way.
Those that are already familiar with the Agile Manifesto will get a better understanding and new perspective that is meant to be interesting and humorous.
Its critical that the Agile, DevOps and Digital communities among others understand exactly what Business Agility is and more importantly what it is not. This quote helps explain true business agility, "business agility is not a purpose in itself; it’s the means to a broader purpose". If you are an Agile, DevOps or Digital practitioner and are teaching that by implementing Agile, DevOps or Digital you will achieve business agility, you have been misinformed what business agility really encompasses.
The Big Picture of Agile: How to Pitch the Agile Mindset to StakeholdersStefan Wolpers
Let’s face it: While your enthusiasm for the big picture of agile practices is admirable, your stakeholders will most likely be moved by one thought only at the beginning of the transition: “What’s in for me? How will I now have my requirements delivered?”.
Read on and learn about one way how to kick-off the transition to a learning organization by pitching a simplified version the big picture of agile practices to your stakeholders first.

Agile from the executive floor - defining agility in business terms - Agile P...Yuval Yeret
Many executives feel agile is something those techies do behind closed doors. This is both a misunderstanding and a major risk to achieving a real shift and impact. In this session we will talk about business agility as an existential capability in the 21st century and how lean/agile process/structure/culture achieve it. Even non-executives will learn language that will help them break the glass ceiling by getting support from those at the top.
Agile From the Top Down: Executives & Leadership Living Agile by Jon StahlLeanDog
I believe that executives must practice what they preach. If they want teams to be transparent and agile, they need to practice themselves and lead by example. This talk will share some Agile & Lean techniques, applied in a new way, to help organizations understand their constraints so they can transparently carry forward their journey to becoming Agile. “Seeing the Whole” includes customers, projects, applications, people, leadership, financials and Standard Work. We will propose creating a BVR (Big (I mean big) Visual Room), refactoring the PMO and suggest some practices to help support this journey. Executives are challenged to lead by example and be transparent. - Jon Stahl
A showcase of gritty, warts-and-all stories about the transformation toward agility of some of Australia’s biggest companies.
From IIT Academy, Hong Kong - meetup.com/IITAcademyHK
· Learn about how a critical government data organisation achieved a 240%+ increase in productivity in just six weeks.
· Hear about the market transforming mobile payments app that reinvigorated one of Australia’s big four banks. Challenges involved resistance from the organisation from line staff through to senior sponsors.
· Hear about how a multi-year flagship project at one of Australia’s major home loan providers was rescued. Out of budget and under-featured, this project was reinvigorated in just 6 months. Complexities included offshore vendors, major time-differences in operations and multiple vendors involved in a complex build.

Planning, scaling and flowing within your agile organizationDimitri Ponomareff
Organizational agility has been defined as the ability of an organization to effectively sense and adapt in complex, rapidly changing conditions so that it can thrive as an organization. In order to achieve great agility, organizations must have a Plan to achieve specific results, define an ideal way to Scale the way they work, and be fully transparent in the way they Flow the work across the organization. In this presentation, we will look at the 5 levels of planning in Agile, various models to scale Agile within an organization and simple ways to visualize the flow of work based on empirical data and innovation accounting.

Technical Debt is a gap between Computer Science and Software Engineering. Common understanding of causes for the Technical Debt is centered on the careless software development choices for the sake of speed and expediency. However Technical Debt usually goes beyond just Technology. This presentation covers the origins of Technical and Product Debt, how to manage it and mitigate it
In this talk we will discuss various topics related to how Lean Agile methodologies can scale to the Enterprise level, we will compare various scaling models, including, standard Scrum or hybrid Scrum methodologies (such as Scrum plus eXtreme Programming or Scrum + Kanban) have fully demonstrated their value to the team level.
But … What happens when we try to use these models in real more complex environments and contexts? Or, when we try to scale Lean Agile in real organizations that characterize an important amount of the landscape of IT in Italy? Moving from the level of the team to the level of the organization (program and portfolio) we will encounter a number of complex issues to some extent new. Hence the importance of knowing the values and principles that constitute the foundations of the concepts of Lean Agile Scaling. There are several models, born in recent years, who are confronted with the reality of the Enterprise. We will discuss this issue at an holistic level and we will compare some of these scaling models, such as: - the standard Scrum ( Ken Schwaber , Mike Cohn , ... ) - Larmann & Vodde - SAFe - DAD - Management 3.0 - CDE – plus other models and approaches taken from my consulting and managerial coaching Enterprise experiences.

A guide to hiring a great developer to build your first app (redacted version)Oursky
Hiring the right developer for your startup can be wearying. In this bitesized Garage Academy session, Ben Cheng, CEO of Oursky will provide you with all the tips for hiring your first developer -- from app development team structure to recruitment to management.
About the speaker:
Ben Cheng is the CEO of Oursky, a Hong Kong-based app dev studio that helps entrepreneurs and startups turn their ideas into reality. He has driven the company’s vision, strategy, and growth since its inception in 2008, and grown the technology-driven team from 3 to over 40 in Hong Kong and Taipei.
ABOUT OURSKY:
Founded in 2008, Oursky has developed web & mobile apps for startups and enterprises such as ASOS and Thomson Reuters. In 2015, 60% of Oursky's published iOS apps were featured in Apple's App Store and one was selected as a Best of 2013 App.
Machine learning applications are typically stitched together from hopes and dreams, shell scripts, cron jobs, home-grown schedulers, snippets of configuration clipped from multiple blog posts, thousands of hard-coded business rules, a.k.a. "our SQL corpus," and a few lines of training and testing code. Organizing all the moving parts into something maintainable and supportive of ongoing development is a challenge most teams have on their TODO list, roadmap, or tech debt pile. Getting ahead of the day-to-day demands and settling into a sane architecture often seems like an unattainable goal. The past several years have seen an explosion of tool-building in the data engineering and analytics area, including in Apache projects spanning the areas of search and information retrieval, job orchestration, file and stream formats, and machine learning libraries. In this talk we will cover our product and development teams' choices of architecture and tools, from data ingestion and storage, through transformations and processing, to presentation of results and publishing to web services, reports, and applications.

Optimizing websites and online experiences with usability techniques and tools makes them more valuable and effective.
Firecat Studio's Susan Price introduces several usability techniques that anyone can do to see major improvement.
For numerous large enterprises, the alignment of hardware and software processes is critical to managing an Agile environment. Agile Hardware implementations can be put in place by using the same framework as our typical Agile Software Development transformations. Start off with assessing the organization’s current state, then move to planning and preparing by and putting together a transition backlog, start execution with training and coaching, spread the cultural shift with change management and maintain and scale the transformation.
Did you know that just a handful of root causes cause the majority of application issues like crashes, slow performance or incorrect application behavior? Non-optimized database access, deployment mistakes, memory leaks, or inefficient coding are just some examples. Companies that think Continuous Delivery and DevOps will solve all their problems typically fail as they just run into these problems faster. In this session we take a closer look at the most common problems, how to detect them and how to incorporate performance into your DevOps culture by automatically detecting these top problems.
The practice of performance testing deserves another look when thinking about agile practices. It is possible to conduct some responsiveness testing on top of functional automation to achieve immediate feedback to developers.

Working Software Over Comprehensive DocumentationAndrii Dzynia
In this talk, I have discussed the issues around the need to recognize the business problem being solved, how to identify that, etc. rather than only focusing on the tech.
In this talk for the students of IIM Udaipur, I have discussed how AI as technology needs to deliver business value in order for AI as a discipline to be seen as relevant to business. I have also spoken briefly about my own research work.
What is #ThoughtLeadership? Is it mindless self-promotion, or is it more like some fancy management fad? Is it more like your social media presence, or sharing stories? What is the real deal here? In this talk, I have shared some ideas from others, and also some of my own learning over the years. Hope you find the answers you were looking for...
How does one go about blogging? Or, why to even blog in the first place? In this talk, I have shared some of my key learning over last 15 years of blogging

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
We describe the deployment and use of Globus Compute for remote computation. This content is aimed at researchers who wish to compute on remote resources using a unified programming interface, as well as system administrators who will deploy and operate Globus Compute services on their research computing infrastructure.

In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.

Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?

• Teams: are highly interdependent -
they plan work, solve problems,
make decisions, and review
progress in service of a specific
project. Team members need one
another to get work done.
• Effectiveness: measured in four
different ways:
• Executive evaluation of the
team
• Team leader evaluation of the
tea,
• Team member evaluation of the
team
• Sales performance against
