Jackrabbit Limousine - Your Fast And Reliable Ride
The Future of Aviation - Post COVID -19
1. The Future of Aviation
Post COVID-19
By John Ellis 2021
2. 1. Job Losses
•120 million jobs in aviation and
hospitality worldwide will be lost
with economic damage likely to
exceed over $1 trillion
•Hundreds of airlines will
disappear, but new ones will start
to spring up in their place
operated on a much lower cost
model
3. 2. Aircraft Conversions
• Airlines will rush to convert
passenger jets into freighters, as
the value of used planes
tumbles since the pandemic.
• The number of passenger-to-
freight conversions globally will
rise by 36% in 2021.
• The boom in e-commerce is
expected to help boost
conversions to an
unprecedented level
4. 3. Next Revolution of Aircraft
• The next revolution of aircraft
is coming. These will be
powered by batteries,
hydrogen, natural gas and other
types of fuels.
• Many of these aircraft will be
vertical take off, such as the
Samad Aerospace e-Starling
removing the need for a
conventional airport and
runway
5. 4. Airport Expansion
• Airport expansion will
be cargo and logistics
and not passenger
terminals
• Although there will be
some exceptions ,
especially where
construction has
commenced
6. 5 New Airports
• Many of the new airports will be
verti-ports for vertical take off
aircraft, these will be on the top of
buildings in city centers
• Larger new airports will be
Aerotropolis whereby a new airport
is built in a totally open area and a
city grows around the airport with
connectivity of business parks, road,
rail along with hotels, conference
centers, hospitals , schools and
residential
7. 6. Airport Terminals
• The airport terminal will get
much bigger so, travelers will
feel safer if given more space,
terminals in design will need re
design and existing terminals will
need to be remodeled
• Airports in the past have tried to
compress as many people as they
can into confined spaces because
terminals were sized for
efficiency. There will be a rethink
as to how much space is given to
each passenger
8. 7. Airport Security Changes
• Security will no longer be front and
center.
• Security checks will include walking
through a tunnel to be scanned
and will incorporate Health
Screening.
• Entire terminals will become
airside security cleared as the need
for sizeable check in areas
diminishes due to persuading
passengers to check in online
9. 8. Passenger Movement
• Less reliance on gate
waiting with notification to
move towards the gate for
staggered boarding
• Terminals will become more
entertainment based with
outside terraces and
restaurants
10. 9. Bacteria Free Environment
• Airports and Aircraft will become
as close as possible to being
bacteria free to reduce the risk of
Covid 19 and other future
diseases by using the latest
technology in air filtration and
movement
• There will be enhanced sanitation
throughout the terminal and
aircraft environment
11. 10. Passenger Protection
• Passengers will be tested upon
entering the terminal and
before boarding
• Face Masks in the Airport and
Aircraft will be here for a long
time to come
• Savvy passengers will double
or triple the wearing of face
masks and will avoid food or
drink in the airport or aircraft .
• Blocking of middle seats on
board will become common to
provide more space between
passengers.
12. 11. No more passenger queuing
• Increases in online check in and
new technology such as facial
recognition and invisible X Ray Wall
Scanners will remove airport
queuing
13. 12. Fuel Efficiency
• The aircraft and all passengers
will be weighed before takeoff
to understand the maximum
true weight of each aircraft at
take off
• Fuel will be loaded which will be
the exact amount of fuel
required to avoid the cost of
carrying the additional weight of
fuel not needed thereby saving
airlines up to 2% of their annual
fuel cost
