2. INTRODUCTION
Lesotho is a small mountainous country, landlocked
country surrounded by its much larger neighbor,
Southern Africa. It is often referred as kingdom in the
sky due to its elevation marked by rocky rolling
mountains. A scenic land of tall mountains and
narrow valleys , typically for it inherent or exhibition
natural or cultural values, historical significance,
natural or build beauty, offering leisure, adventure
and amusement.
3. MALETSUNYANE FALLS
• Nestled near the town of Semonkong. The
Maletsunyane Fall is a breathtaking sight. Plunging
over 192 meters into a rugged gorge, it's one of the
highest single-drop waterfalls in Africa. The area
around the falls offers excellent opportunities for
hiking and ponny treaking .
4. THABA-BOSIU
• Thaba-bosiu plateau is more than just a scenic
location ; it was site brimming with historical
significance. It was the stronghold of king
Moshoeshoe 1, the founder of the Basotho nation
and it remains a place of great cultural importance
of the Basotho people. It contains historical
footprints and graves of Lesotho's royals.
5. KATSE DAM
• As one of the largest dams in Africa, Katse dam is
an engineering marvel set within the maloti
mountains. Tours of the dam offers insights into its
construction and it's role in the Lesotho Highlands
Water Project. There are numerous trails and a
botanical garden that showcase local flora.
6. TS'EHLANYANE NATIONAL PARK
• It found in Leribe district. This national park is part
of the larger Maloti -Drakensberg Transfrontier
conservation Area and is one of Lesotho's largest
parks. It has valleys and wildlife. There are also a
variety of birds and the rare Lesotho highland
bamboo.
7. Sehlabathebe national park
• It is located in the Maloti mountains in Qacha'snek
district. It is the national designated nature reserve
in Lesotho. The park is ideal for hiking . These area
is known for beautiful rock formations, alpine flora
and a variety of birds species.
8. Thabana-ntlenyana
• Thabana-ntlenyana means ‘Beautiful little
mountain ' in Sesotho and is a two way day hike
from Sani pass, is the highest point in Lesotho and
the highest mountain in Southern Africa. It is
situated on the Mohlesi ridge of the Maloti
mountains, north of Sani Pass.
9. AFRISKI MOUNTAIN RESORT
• It is in the Maloti mountains it offers a unique
experience. In winter it transport into a bustling ski
resort, the only one of its kind in Lesotho . In
summer it's a hub for mountain biking, hiking and
fishing.
10. LIPHOFUNG CAVES
• It is located at Khukhune in Butha-Buthe district.
The caves themselves are small but the site is
profound, offering insights into the early human
occupation of the region. It tells the story of the san
people who lived there and the rock art that adorns
the cave walls.
11. In conclusion
Lesotho offers a very different tourism experience,
with the potential of the tourism sector lying in it's
natural beauty, rich flora and fauna and absorbing
prehistoric and cultural heritage. The appeal of this
extraordinary county is rarely found in more
commercialized destinations.
