Here we are going to talk about places of interest in Lesotho which are Thaba-Bosiu cultural village Thabana-Ntlenyane katse dam mohale dam and many others.
2. INTRODUCTION
• Lesotho is a landlocked country in
southern Africa. It is situated in the
maloti mountains and contains the
highest peak in southern Africa. It
has an area of over 30000 km and has
a population of about 2 million .Its
capital and largest city is Maseru.
The country is also known by the
nickname The mountain kingdom.
3. LIPHOFUNG CAVE CULTURAL AND
HISTORICAL SITE
This small but historically
significant sandstone overhang is
adorned in san rock art and
served as a temporary hideaway
home for king Moshoeshoe the
great back in the early
1800s,before he became the
nation’s founder. The government-
run site offers guided walks
through the cave ,along with
cultural Centre and shop selling
local crafts. Accommodation is
available.
4. KATSE DAM
The katse Dam, in the
Lesotho Highlands, is one of
the most spectacular water
features in the country
.Located on the malimatso
River ,this dam was
completed in 1997 and is
central to the lesotho
highlands water project. The
dam is second in size in
Africa to Ghana’s lake Volta
and akosombo dam. The
impressive dam wall is 185m
high, 700m long and contains
92000cubic metres of
concrete.
5. THABA BOSIU
It is a sandstone plateau where
king Moshoeshoe I ,the founder of
the Basotho nation established
what turned out to be a
formidable fortress that protected
his people during the Lifaqane
wars.” Thaba bosiu”which means
“mountain at night "was believed
to possess supernatural powers
which made it grow into a tall
mountain during the night leaving
enemies who tried scaling it still
stranded on its cliffs and
vulnerable for attack the next
morning
6. MALETSUNYANE WATER FALLS
• Maletsunyane falls located in an upspoilt area in semonkong in a 192 metre high
waterfall dropping into a gorge.it is found in Maseru district.
7. SEHLABATHEBE NATIONAL PARK
Sehlabathebe national
park is the kingdom of
Lesotho's oldest
protected area.it is
located in qacha’s Nek
district off lesotho on
the eastern edge of
the maloti mountains
at an altitude ranging
from 2,200m to
2,600m above sea
level.
8. MORIJA MUSEUM
Morija museum holds and achieves
hosts the oldest surviving museum
and achives in the kingdom of
lesotho.as an institution with both
extensive archival and museum
collections and its own ongoing
research projects and publishing
program ,it attracts scholars from far
and wide. For those who love ancient
and modern history ,contemporary
issues and trends,dinosaurs,or living
culture,morija, a historic town in
lesotho .
9. METOLONG DAM
The world founded metolong dam and
water supply program has enhanced lives
at the grass root level in lesotho.it
brought water to the country’s lowlands
and boosted the economy by supplying
domestic and industrial water.it has also
improved the quality of life in rural areas
by electrifying villages and providing
skills training and healthcare to the
communities in the project area.at the
end of 2018,more than 500000 people
reaped the benefits of the program ,
including employment opportunities,
capacity building ,and skills
development.
10. THABANA NTLENYANA
• Thabana ntlenyane is the
highest mountain in southern
Africa, located in the maloti
mountain range.it stands
3482 metres tall within the
lofty maloti mountains in
Mokhotlong district.
