The Factors That Disrupt My Dream Of Earning Higher Education
Since, it is not very long ago, a young refugee, living in a refugee camp for more than two decades
of my life. I never have a big and many dreams because dreaming is not among the things that the
refugees typically think about it. However, I have one dream to earn a higher education. Spending
exiled life, there are several different factors that disrupt me to chase my dream of earning higher
education. For example, financial difficulties, health problems, opportunity, and daily needs.
Suddenly, a big change comes to me, when I got the opportunity to come United States in
September 2011 with the help of the International Organization for Migration. My first place that I
came to the United States is Syracuse New York. As I arrived in Syracuse I got an opportunity to go
to school, and I start at Onondaga Community College for my higher education in spring 2012 and I
graduated from Onondaga Community College in Spring 2014. After I graduate from Onondaga
Community College, I attended Whitman School Of Management at Syracuse University for my
Bachelors where I studied double major as Finance and Accounting. Now, this is my final term at
the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. I want to pursue masters of Science in
nursing at University of Rochester because the masters program at University of Rochester perfectly
fits my dream of earning higher education and being health professional. After my degree I want to
serve in my own community, which has a very

Kodak vs Fujifilm
George Eastman was one of the first to demonstrate the great convenience of dry plates to wet plates
in 1878, making photography easier for all. Since that time, they have been great innovators in their
section of the world, America. Moreover, a huge American Icon was born. In 1884, the business
changed from a partnership to a company with 14 shareholders, Eastman Dry Plate and Film
Company was formed. In 1885, Eastman American Film opened overseas in London England, and
the start of innovative worldwide company was. After hiring a fulltime chemist, unheard of in those
times, the name Kodak was born and the Kodak camera was introduced into the market. The

This attention to detail and ability to out pace Kodak technology had endeared Fuji to its
professional market, and serve as a bridge to build credibility on all of Kodak's markets. It had taken
its market share now, and was edging out Kodak on lower price and even lowers profits just to get
ahead. Fuji's most advertised success in Kodak's market happened in the 1984 Olympics in Los
Angeles and every year since. Kodak tried to come back by getting the TV contract, but Fujifilm had
surpassed Kodak.
George Fisher Kodak's new CEO, has been successful in attracting new talent who worked in the
technology department, Fuji's strength. He hired Daniel Carp a sales veteran for Kodak who worked
all over the world. Daniel traveled the sales markets and made adjustments to up Kodak's share and
Fisher wanted to tap that information and use it. He was promoted to President and COO and Carp
fully realized that the changing and emerging markets were in taking advantage of that face and his
contacts around the world. To help foster the change, Kodak admitted that they had to set up shop
were the talent was, and to back that up. So they bought a successful software company in Silicon
Valley, and marketing that alliance to the world they were on their way to climbing out of their
complacency.

Gerrymandering Pros And Cons
Gerrymandering is the process of altering electoral districts to favor a political party over the other
by receiving more votes in that districts based on the population demographics and party affiliation.
Gerrymandering was founded when Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts had enacted a bill
that would allow the state to the redistricted in a way that would favor the party he represented,
which was the Democratic–Republican Party, over the Federalists. When the redistricting plan was
brought to the press, the term was created using Governor Gerry's name and salamander after one
district in Boston appeared to look like a salamander. In terms of recent elections, the United States
has not gone through a redistricting process since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The redistribution of districts definitely helped voters that felt underrepresented especially those in
rurals and cities but this still presents problems with small pockets of voters that are either
undecided or strongly in favor of one party over their districts affiliation. The new NY District 23 is
a perfect example of this. District 23 is lead by Congressman Tom Reed, a Republican representing
a very rural area of Southern Tier New York. The cities of Corning, Ithaca, Olean, Jamestown, and
Dunkirk are scattered throughout the district with dozens of public and private universities also
present. The district population is mostly isolated in the cities with sparse populations elsewhere. A
majority of the population would be young, due to the universities, and mostly urban, because of the
cities, so you expect the district to be blue, wrong. District 23 is in fact red, because of the lack of
mobilization of young voters to go out and vote. Because of this, older more rural voters decide the
party affiliation of the district resulting in representation by Reed. Some argue that Tom Reed's
district is gerrymandered in his favor which resulted in his reelection this past November. Although
he was reelected, there was still a presence of more younger voters making an effort to go out and
vote. John Plumb, Reed's Democratic opponent, had great outreach in the Chautauqua

Assignment 1: Kodak and Fujifilm
Assignment 1: Kodak and Fujifilm When we think about players in the market of photographic
films, digital cameras, supplying various products for the photography sector, and medical imaging
equipment two key players come to mind, Kodak and Fujifilm.
History and Core Business The Eastman Kodak Company, known to many simply as Kodak was
created in April 1880 by George Eastman in Rochester NY. Manufacturing dry plates for sale to
various to the common consumer was where Kodak found its niche early on. George Eastman was a
leader in the field of photography and was devoted to making photography available to everyone, he
has been quoted to say that he wanted to make the camera as "convenient as the pencil" (Kodak
Eastman, 2013). In 2012 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In effect Kodak operates their facilities, products and services in a way that increase shareholder
value. Kodak uses a Human Relations Management strategy. Kodak believes that delivering a high
level of customer satisfaction will net an increase in their global market share. Kodak would could
have had success if the company would have invested some of its earnings into innovation, rather
than sharing it with employees, and making prodigious donations to a number of diverse learning
institutions (Business Teacher.org, 2013). Fujifilm on the other hand, started out using an operations
management approach. They already had an established workforce, as well as a factory, and their
main concern was to devote resources to employ chemists that could perform experiments for new
innovations This approach was leaning in the direction of providing an improved service to their
customer base by improving the product. Fujifilm took in the changes that came by means of digital
photography. They sought out ways to adjust. Despite the fact that there may have been changes to
their organization, there is no reference to wage decreases or alterations to the way the employees
were paid as we saw with Kodak. Fujifilm's mission statement give emphasis to a dedication to
people by creating a positive work environment and improving quality of life for employees. They
affirm that they are customer focused and maintain open

Organizational Change In Eastman Kodak
1. Introduction "Organizational change is the movement of an organization away from its current
state and toward some desired future state to increase its effectiveness" (Lunenburg, 2010). Changes
in the environment often require changes within the organization driving within that environment.
Change–fatigue is one of the challenges organization face.
Change may occur in order to remain competitive in response to new competition. Change–fatigue
is rampant, and its aggravated by a natural tendency to distrust change that is imposed from above
(Morgan, 2001). This report will discuss about Eastman Kodak Company as the organization that
failed because it did not go through some organizational change or resistance to change.

Organizational Culture "Organizational Culture is a pattern of shared basic assumptions that was
learned by a group as it solved its problems of external adaption and internal integration, that has
worked well enough to be considered valid and, therefore, to be taught to new members as the
correct way to recognize, think, and feel in relation to those problems" (Schein, 2004). Historically,
Kodak was a business built on a culture of innovation and change, which made them very
successful, but as achievement grew so did their complacency.
The deep–rooted source of Kodak's problem was a "culture of self–satisfaction". Kodak was
critically destroyed by its culture, although it was the quick progress of digital photo technology that
is commonly blamed for Kodak's demise (Riley, 2015). On the other hand, Kodak's new leadership
has not clearly addressed what are Kodak's essential features and neglected the need to transform the
Kodak's culture destinies, which may be any possibility of Kodak future succeed. Therefore, the
culture of Kodak was unable to operationalize and launch the ideas that would eventually force their
demise (Simonelli,

Frederick Douglass: An Example Of An Epic Hero
Whenever the word hero is mentioned, many people immediately have a visual image of a or their
hero. There is a common misconception that heroes have to defeat some giant creature or force, and
save a princess. This is the basis of numerous fictional heroes however. Oftenly in novels, movies,
etc., the main protagonist or hero in general, can be referred to as an epic hero. An epic hero is
typically one who does or did something of much significance and became well–known for it. They
also might have had traveled over a great distance, or had a noble birth. An example of an epic hero
is Homer's Odysseus from The Odyssey. Odysseus's accomplishments include fighting in the Trojan
War, achieving fame, and traveling around the world. Although there are plentiful fictional and
made up heroes, there are real life heroes too. One of these is Frederick Douglass, a former slave
and one of the biggest leaders in the Civil Rights Movement. Douglass embodied an epic hero
because he exemplified national heroism, being capable of great deeds of courage and strength, and
distant travel. The first trait of an epic hero possessed by Frederick was national heroism. National
heroism means that you are recognized as a hero in your own country, as well as in others. This trait
is shown when the author of a short biography of Douglass's life states that "Three years later, after
a speaking tour consisting of England, Ireland, and Scotland, Douglass published the first issue of

Eastman Kodak
Eastman Kodak went through a considerable transformation change since it was founded. The
organization structure at Eastman Kodak was a typical classical hierarchy with the CEO overlooking
the entire organization. Later in 1984, the company went through a transformation change in which
it was reorganized into 29 separate business units grouped into four lines of business. It included
Photography (PPG), Commercial and Imaging Group (CIG), Chemicals (EC), and Health (HG) and
three international segments. Each group operated under its own general manager.
Later again in 1988, Eastman Kodak launched an Information Systems Department (ISD) which was

The company has a website on which it markets its products and services to a number of different
customers. The website also contains a number of websites in different languages worldwide. The
overall new structure of the company is divided into three groups consisting of Consumer Business
Group, Commercial Business Group and Global Operations with each group with sub units.
The company has introduced new products and services since the 80's. One of the achievements is
its introduction of a new division in the imaging area called Digital and Applied Imaging. It was
formed in 1994 with a focus on various digital imaging programs.
I agree with Hudson's approach for selecting outsourcing partners and negotiating the agreements.
The reason is because she had consulted an outside vendor to study Eastman Kodak's IT services
and on top of that inquired with other internal and external studies to yield to the decision of
outsourcing. I would have done the same thing. It is because when you make inquiries about
something, you get a different perspective or see things at a different angle than what you had in
mind. It helps you make a better decision than if you do not ask questions.
If I were going to do something different, I would have followed the same procedure with the
exception that whatever I found from my inquiries, I would not have outsourced. Instead I would
have tried to improve the current IT infrastructure to support the services needed.

Analyzing Managerial Decisions: Eastman Kodak Essay
Analyzing Managerial Decisions: Eastman Kodak
1) What factors motivated Kodak to change its organizational architecture?
When Kodak began making changes to its organizational architecture in 1984, its current
architecture did not fit the business environment for the industry. The largest factor that motivated
Kodak to make this change was increased competition and decreased market share. Until the early
1980's, Kodak owned the film production market with very little competition. This suddenly
changed when Fuji Corporation and many other generic store brands began producing high quality
film as well (Brickley, 2009, p. 358). Another factor in this change was technology advancements.
As technology rapidly expanded in the 1980's, other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
359). The change was also a mistake and did not have the affect the company thought it would.
Employees simply were not motivated by the firm's new performance evaluation system.
3) What might it have done differently?
When making changes to its organizational architecture, Kodak should have designed it with
following characteristics in mind: 1) assignment of decision rights, 2) methods of rewarding
individuals, and 3) structure of systems to evaluate the performance of both individuals and business
units (Brickley, 2009, p. 341). When changing organizational architecture, it is very important to
keep in mind that the three components of organizational architecture are interdependent and need to
be coordinated (Brickley, 2009, p. 350–1). Simply stated, the company did not implement a rewards
method and performance evaluation system (e.g., the MAPP) at the same time it began changing
assignment of decision rights (e.g., restructuring into 17 new departments). When one component is
changed, the other components should be changed too. Holding employees accountable while
simultaneously implementing a decentralized decision making approach would have helped Kodak
to improve the effectiveness of the change in architecture. The company had a stranglehold on the
industry and was set it its own company

Attract and Retain Employees
In order to attract and retain people of the same values, one must first know what the organization
values are. "We're committed to our 'Who We Are' values because they set a strong foundation for us
as a company–– a foundation of caring about people and each other," states Vice President Colleen
Wegman on Wegmans' official site. Shared values between employees and the organization make it
uncomplicated to attract and retain employees. Wegmans is way above the market standards of
treating their employees through higher wages and a slew of benefits.
Organizations Affect Community Cultures
Wegmans' model of contribution and giving back to its community proves to be a successful and
profitable way of doing business. Wegmans' philosophy of taking care of their employees, the
customers and community that keeps them in business, insures that they will continue to expand and
build positive relations with whomever they encounter. Wegman helps support the communities it
surrounds by providing support for charities, employee scholarships, customer promotions and
maintaining sustainability.

We feel that there are several beautiful attractions that make up the Greater Rochester Area of which
this target audience is unaware. This marketing plan aims to get this market out into the suburbs and

Who Is George Eastm Helpful Or Harmful?
American visionary and businessman George Eastman has become instrumental in the rapid
development of film processing with his innovation of dry plates. For over a century, his name has
become synonymous with photography in America and in the rest of the world. In 1880, the US
Patent Office granted a patent to George Eastman for his plate–coating machine used in capturing
images on film. Businessman Henry A. Strong, so intrigued by a prospective venture, partnered with
Eastman and invested in the fledgling company. The partnership formed in the following year was

How The Erie Canal Shaped And Reshaped The Identity Of New...
The Erie Canal, which was three–hundred sixty miles, forty feet wide and four feet deep at its
completion, was able to bridge a connection from Lake Erie to the Hudson and was a reliable form
of transportation (as the roads were not the network it is today). The Erie Canal, after its
construction was able to rupture the boundaries of western and eastern (northeastern) New York and
encouraged inward and outward flow (migration) of people, animals, goods, money, trade, sickness
and disease, ideas, and news, and was able to deconstruct as well as reconstruct the identity of New
York State as a consequence of its success. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how the Erie
Canal shaped and reshaped the identity of New York State through the compression and expansion
of space and time during industrialization, the second wave of globalization, through the canal's
economic success, and through the rupturing of boundaries. The Erie Canal has been praised for
years as a well–known legendary waterway around the world (Larkin 1998). The canal has been
termed as "the greatest public work undertaken by a free society solely for the benefit of its
people...the undertaking was a prodigious one" (Edmonds 1960, p. 1). After opening in 1825, the
Erie Canal was named the "longest canal in the world" and opened the West to become a globalized
nation, brought affluence to New York State as well as establishing New York City as a shipping
port (Wyld 1986). It can be argued that the

When he created his dry–plate coating machine, Eastman knew he had something. His invention, the
first of its kind was unique in many ways. In 1888 the original Kodak sold for $25 loaded with a roll
of film and included a leather carrying case. "Unlike earlier cameras that used a glass–plate negative
for each exposure, the Kodak came preloaded with a 100–exposure roll of flexible film" (Original
Kodak Camera). When the consumer was finished with their roll of film, they mailed the whole
camera back to the factory to have the film developed and printed at a cost of $10. The camera was
returned with negatives and mounted prints along with a new roll of film. Kodak advertisements
from 1888 stated that any amateur could "finish his own pictures" and spare film rolls were sold for
$2. According to the National Museum of American History, Eastman's first camera, The Kodak,
created pictures that were distinctly unique with the recognizable circular snapshots that defined a
new style of photography that was informal, fun, and personal (Original Kodak Camera). The design
of the original Kodak had a special barrel shutter that was set by pulling up a string on top of the
camera and operated by pushing a button on the side of the camera. This is where Kodak's famous
line "you press the button, we do the rest" comes from. After the picture is taken, a key at the top of

in the eastern side of the Lower Genesee River Watershed supplies eighty percent of the water for
the city of Rochester, New York (GFLRPC, 2004). Conesus Lake is the water supply for four

Film Company. He started the company after "he perfected a process of making dry plates for
photography"(Britannica, George Eastman). Eight years later, Eastman designed a camera that was
perfect for the amateur photographers. "Things changed dramatically in 1888 when George Eastman
introduced the Kodak camera. A small hand–held box, it cost only $25––about the price of a higher–
end iPad in today's money, which put it in the range of the well–off middle class. And it offered
simplicity: It arrived with 100 shots preinstalled, and when they were taken you shipped the entire
camera back to Eastman's factory in Rochester, New York, where workers developed the photos and
mailed them back to you along with your reloaded camera. "You press the button, we do the rest," as
the Kodak slogan rang" (Thompson, Clive, 2012). This was the start of the Kodak monpoly of the
film and photography industry. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eastman continued to revolutionize the field of photography by offering a less expensive camera

cameras were sold in 1900" (Kreiser, 2012). With previous cameras, the customers needed to send in

Analysis Of Dont Give Up The Fight By Susan B Anthony
In the passage ''Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote'' and ''Don't Give Up The Fight'' both stories share
the theme of courage. Susan B Anthony is showing courage by trying to get women to have equal
rights even though people don't like her and cops can arrest her. In the passage ''Don't Give Up The
Fight'' she is showing courage by standing up to Jacob even though he was being very aggressive
and rude towards her. But in both stories, the moods are completely different. In Susan B Anthony
the mood is more serious as she tries to get equal rights for woman. In ''Don't Give Up the fight'' the
mood is sadder. This is because she is getting bullied by her track team and her coach because of
being a girl. In the first passage, ''Susan B Anthony Dares To Vote" the theme is courage because she
goes to big rallies and tries to get women the rights they deserve even though men don't support her
and people would throw stuff at her and say hateful comments. But she showed courage by not
stopping in the passage it even stated that ''Many nights she had to sleep in railroad stations.'' Also,
Susan B Anthony In one year traveled up to 13,000 miles and went gave 171 lectures. This shows
that she is really courageous because she dedicated most of her life trying to get women the rights
they wanted and needed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This passage shows courage because even though Ava is getting bullied by her fellow track stars and

text is Don't Give Up The Fight because it shows that whatever happens don't give up the fight and
keep going. Another thing that shows courage in the passage ''Don't Give Up The Fight'' is that Ava
gets talked about behind her back by the boy's but she shows courage by not getting sad or mad

Fisher’s tenure began a series of changes at Kodak: cost–cutting measures were introduced, faster
decisions were encouraged and there was a move towards proactive business strategies. An informal
manager, Fisher replaced the rigid hierarchical organization at Kodak and delegated decisions to line
managers. The change in also resulted in a refocus of activities which resulted in reductions of 9,000
jobs worldwide during 1994 and 1995 – almost 10% of the workforce. The company posted a net
income of $1,252 million in 1995 (Exhibit 1).
Corporate Environmental Efforts
Kodak has a history of health, safety, and environment (HS&E) awareness. The company’s formal
commitment to HS&E began in 1936 with the creation of the Laboratory of Industrial Medicine. By
the late 1980s the company had instituted HS&E policies and performance standards, and a
corporate HS&E assessment program. Additionally, the corporate strategic planning processes
included HS&E priorities. A corporate–level HS&E Management Council was created at Kodak in
1989. The Council brings senior company officers together to provide direction and establish
policies affecting performance. By the 1990s, HS&E criteria were beginning to be included in
performance tracking, and prevention–based HS&B programs were encouraged.
Kodak’s vision statement now includes HS&E performance, and Fisher has also adopted an HS&E

Eastman Kodak Company: Funtime Film
1. Diagnose the reasons for Kodak's market share loss and make your assessment of the likely
development of the market if Kodak maintained the status quo.
Kodak has been losing market share for the past five years to the point it has gone from 76% to
70%. The underlying causes that have generated such losses and have ultimately led consumers to
favor competing brands with larger growth are:
I. Consumers are tending to view film as a commodity, often buying on price alone. Half of the
picture takers claim they know little or nothing about photography. II. Quality differences among
films are unclear. Superpremium, Premium, Economy and Price brands showed no real quality
difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Kodak will position itself with a new and unknown brand, without leveraging on the
Kodak credentials and in the upper Economy price range, therefore still not targeting the bulk of
competing value brands.
Marketing Plan: We consider a mistake for Funtime not to leverage on the Kodak name, wasting an
opportunity to gain inmediate consumer awareness and brand recognition. Furthermore, Funtime
will not benefit from any advertising support and will not even be available throughout the year, as
it will be launched twice a year in off–peak film use times. On the other hand, there will be no
attempt to correct trade margins with Funtime, making it even harder for retailers to promote it.
With no prior history as a brand, no advertising resources to build brand equity, scarce supply and
therefore availability, and trade disincentives to sell the product, we believe Funtime has little
probability to succeed.
Contribution Margin: Funtime will be launched at 20% below Gold Plus. As you can see from the
table below, respecting Kodak's 20% Trade Margin policy, Funtime will contribute with $1.4 per roll
making it a profitable line extension.
The following table shows the contribution margin of the main products of Kodak, including
Funtime, | Royal Gold | Gold Plus | Funtime | Retail Price | 4.19 | 3.49 | 2.79 | Dealer's Margin (20%)
| 0.84 | 0.7 | 0.56 | Wholesaler's Price | 3.04 | 2.79 | 2.23 | Cost (30%) | 1.26 |

Essay on Should New York State repeal the SAFE act?
Should NYS repeal the SAFE Act?
The Most opposed piece of legislation in state history. If you own a firearm in New York State you
know about the secure ammunition and firearms enforcement act or SAFE act for short. What you
may not know about it though is much more important. What most people don't realize is that this
law is under more opposition than any other law in the state's history "As of 3/11/2013, we've had
127,715 people sign the petition!" (New York senator Kathleen Marchione). There are many
explanations why. What I am here to ask is should assault be legal and unrestricted in the state of
New York, and is it legal to restrict them the way that the legislators of the state have?
Problems with legislation.

As well, it will be seen as a deterrent to people looking to get the help they need. The next issue
called into question is the fact that this law requires all who own them to register their "assault
weapons". This can be an issue of privacy and can also predispose police officers into thinking that
these citizens may be criminals just because they own assault weapons. The main argument against
this law though is this: until a few bad seeds came into the picture the people who owned these
weapons were law abiding and had no desire to kill anyone with them. In fact, this law makes many
rifles used for hunting illegal.
Sandy hook. What brought this law about are the tragedies of 2012 that caused ripples in all ideas

Wegmans, The Middle Atlantic Grocery Chain
Introduction
Wegmans, the middle Atlantic grocery chain, has demonstrated a great deal of success in just less
than 100 years of operating. In those 100 or so years, Wegmans has become one of the most
respected and successful grocers in that region, if not the country. The reason for this success is the
commitment that Wegmans has put in place. Wegmans follows an extremely detailed plan, that
allows for them to have a great grasp on what sort of inventory the stores need to keep on hand.
Wegmans also is a leader in the area of sustainability. As Wegmans continues growing their
footprint, they will continue to implement these processes and continue to be a leader in the grocery
industry.
Process Management Since Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. was founded in 1916 as the Rochester
Fruit and Vegetable Company by John Wegman the company has grown to be one of the largest
privately owned companies in the United States (Ezzedan, Hyde, & Laurin, 2006, p. 298). The
highly ranked company, based in Rochester, New York, has branched out into other major cities in
the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Recognized by Fortune magazine as a
best company to work for, a single Wegmans superstore typically employs five hundred to six
hundred employees (Stevenson, 2015, p. 33). Wegmans' success is built on continual business
process management. Wegmans uses this process to implement innovative efforts to provide the

Don T Give Up The Fight And Susan B. Anthony Dares To Vote
The stories Don't Give Up the Fight and Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote share a common theme
which is perseverance. In the story Don't Give Up the Fight, Ava is being bullied by the boys on the
track team, because she is the only girl. Susan in Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote, shows
perseverance because, she had to speak up even though she would get arrested. While both of the
stories share a common theme the character's actions are very different. The story Susan B. Anthony
Dares to Vote, Susan fights for women's rights using speech. While Ava, in the story Don't Give Up
the Fight, raced one of the boys on the track team making her use physical activity to redeem
herself.
In Don't Give Up the Fight perseverance is showed in most of the text. For example, Jacob a boy on
the track team said "If you beat me to the tree I believe you." This is important to notice because,
this shows that Jacob thinks that Ava can't win any races. Also, the boys were making fun of her on
the bus because she was very quiet. So, the boys asked, "Are you dead?" Because Ava didn't answer
the boys the first time. But, what really hurt her was when she saw coach McCoy laughing when the
boys said something really mean. This is important to notice because, she was traumatized from

Anthony Dares to Vote, the theme perseverance is showed throughout the story. For example, Susan
in the beginning of the story got arrested because she was fighting for women's rights, which got her
arrested. In the story she said "I shall never pay a dollar." This is important to notice, because she is
resisting to the judge, and saying that she will never pay any fine, fee, etc. Also, Susan said "I am
here for a little time only, and then my place will be filled... The fight must not cease. You must see
that is does not stop. Failure is impossible." This shows that through all of Susan's hard work she
never gave up. This is how Susan B. Anthony shows perseverance in the

George Eastman Research Paper
People define success differently. Some define success by the ability to build a profitable, global
business. Others define success in terms of having enough wealth to live well and give back to the
community is ways that impact future generations. Still others believe that success can be defined by
the persistence and dedication it takes to overcome great adversity and build a better life. George
Eastman embodied these definitions of success and much more. Through triumph over financial

that plan, the photography equipment of the time was bulky and expensive. He did buy all the

photography more accessible to the masses (Biography). He would accomplish his goal. The ability
to photograph want you wanted and when you wanted it was not a possibility until George Eastman
began producing his rolls of film. These rolls where much more portable and less expensive than the

The story Susan B. Anthony Dares To Vote and Don't Give Up The Fight both try to change lives for

Susan replies to the judges fine by saying, "And I shall earnestly and persistently continue to urge all

for women because she pledges to the judge that she will not stop urging women about the
unfairness until they get what they deserve. While Anthony helps women, Ava helps herself by
persevering to get what she wants. For example, Ava showed perseverance and how she helps

An organization's design is made keeping in mind the decision making principle of the company and
the flow of information (both formal and informal) within the company. Four organizational
structures are the most common to all organizations, namely: hierarchical, flat, matrix and

The hierarchical structure comprises of a top level management and keeps getting segmented to
different levels depending on the work that has to be done. The decision making is done by the
topmost level management in the structure while the lower level work force follows the rules made

In the FBI case, it was their lack of information among departments that caused the ineffectiveness
of its performance. In the article "Who killed the Virtual Case File?" it is clearly identified that the
gaps in information made it difficult to solve issues in crime and terrorism.
Though the senior management in both the company cultures showed failure in embracing
technology for example in the case of FBI paper work was followed instead of using electronic
documentation, FBI also failed to identify the use of database in a smart and effective manner to
store and share information securely among departments. This was however not the case with
Kodak. It was the reluctance of senior management to accept the new technology though they
identified the new horizon of business identified by them.
Though Kodak had flaws with decision making by its senior management, they have acted upon not
making hierarchical structure as their organization's framework. Another article called "Lessons

famous "Pizza" organization of Eastman Kodak. This structure encourages that company to

at and began learning how to adapt it to other markets arenas. Fujifilm unlike Kodak transformed
from a fairly narrow photographic supplier into a diversified company with significant health–care
and electronics operations. They looked into more than just simply moving to digital photography
from analog. They tapped into its chemical expertise for more uses, such as drugs and liquid–crystal
display panels. These panels were used for televisions, computers, smartphones and other devices
that are the future of

Kodak And Its First Snapshot Camera
In 1880, George Eastman founded the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York. By 1888,
the company developed its first snapshot camera and became an American household name. Over
time, Kodak believed that most of their money came from film, which caused the company to lose
focus on their equipment. However, by the 1960s, Kodak started to introduce new products that
focused on medical imaging and graphic arts. One of the key players in the industry is Polaroid. In
1969, Polaroid's patents on instant photography expired, giving Kodak a huge opportunity.
Eventually Kodak came up with its first instant camera and sold about 16.5 million of them.
However, a patent infringement suit by Polaroid forced Kodak to abandon their instant camera ...

In 1998, Kodak lost market share when Fuji cut their prices. "As a result of this price war, by the
end of 1999 the company has to cut $1.2 billion in costs and 19,900 jobs, or about one–fifth of its
payroll, the most severe cutback ever at Kodak" (Gavetti, Henderson and Giorgi 10). By 2001,
Kodak was losing $60 on every digital camera it sold (Gavetti, Henderson and Giorgi 10). During its
time, Kodak has faced multiple legal issues. One issue they faced was an antitrust suit with
independent service organizations. Kodak controls most of the service market and the market for its
replacement parts. The independent service organizations argued "that Kodak was trying to force
them out of business by restricting their access to replacement parts and by trying to insure that
customers for its business machines either service the machines themselves or buy service directly
from Kodak" (Greenhouse). Kodak was being accused of violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. The
service companies believed that Kodak was "unlawfully tying the sale of service for Kodak
machines to the sale of parts, and unlawfully trying to monopolize the market for service"
(Greenhouse). According to the textbook, Section 1 of the Sherman Act states that it is illegal to
restraint trade in contract, trust or conspiracy and Section 2 condemns any person who monopolizes
or attempts to monopolize. (Clarkson, Miller and Cross 914). One way Section 1 can be violated is

George Eastman Biography
George Eastman Kodak Camera
George Eastman was many things. He left a great legacy for himself and established an amazing
foundation for the Kodak Camera. Before starting any type of work in any field, he went to public
school for seven years. Public education is where he got the foundational education for his later
camera invention. He didn't begin his camera work until much later in life.
In his early working years, he was well established in an insurance office, a book office, and studied
scientific books for his own knowledge. These early jobs didn't pay well, however, they allowed him
to earn a living to support his family before becoming extremely wealthy. Eastman sacrificed many
things in his early life including family opportunities, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although many didn't believe there was one person in his life that did and that came from his
business work. The business man that he worked for at a young age saw his full potential and
believed that whatever he put his mind too he could accomplish. "While he was still working for the
bank in Rochester, New York, Eastman became seriously interested in photography" (source 3). He
was only able to be interested in new things because someone else believed in him. Starting small
Eastman decided to open his own business, so that he could learn how to run a company and to
create a good reputation for himself without people making opinions without knowing anything
about him.
After creating a steady business and allowing for people to learn his true potential he was able to
begin early research work. "The clerical work at the insurance office did not absorb all of young
Eastman's energies, as his trips to Niagara Falls, Boston, Maine, and Chicago indicate"
(source 1). The early work that he began didn't turn out as well as it could have, however because he
now had the support of the surrounding people he was able to get through

Business 302: Management Concepts
Date
The names of Kodak and Fujifilm are well known around the world. They are two companies that
have made a name from photos, film, cameras and printers. They are competitors that started in the
same business and took different paths. Though they shared similar products their management
direction and company direction differed. The differences led one company to be successful and the
other to struggle.
The founder of Kodak, George Eastman, was a photography enthusiast and wanted to simplify the
process of creating photos. Eastman established what was to evolve into the Kodak Company in
1880. The Kodak Company was built on four basic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(George Eastman)
The Kodak Company was undisputed in the photo industry until Fujifilm, a Japanese company, was
established in 1934. Since its inception Fujifilm has become a leader in motion picture photography,
audio and videotape and the floppy disc industries. The company also boasts products such as still
cameras, camcorders, photofinishing equipment, paper and chemicals, imaging and information
products for the office and health care markets.
Fujifilm got its start with the production of motion picture film, dry plates and photographic paper. It
was difficult for Fujifilm initially to develop brand recognition due to the market prevalence of the
Eastman Kodak Company. Fujifilm's quality standards were not on par with Kodak and this created
a challenge to gaining any traction. Fujifilm's plan to compete was to develop film and paper that
were compatible with the processing systems used mostly worldwide. By 1969, all of their films,
photo paper and chemicals completely matched these processing systems. With the concentration on
the quality of its products, Fujifilm was able to develop its first film product and a motion–picture
negative film which proved to consumers in Japan that Fujifilm was technically proficient and
resulted in a demand for their products.
Fujifilm was able to being exporting film and optical products after World War II ended, they
primarily focused on South American and Asia. There was a great demand

The Factors That Disrupt My Dream Of Earning Higher Education

  • 1. The Factors That Disrupt My Dream Of Earning Higher Education Since, it is not very long ago, a young refugee, living in a refugee camp for more than two decades of my life. I never have a big and many dreams because dreaming is not among the things that the refugees typically think about it. However, I have one dream to earn a higher education. Spending exiled life, there are several different factors that disrupt me to chase my dream of earning higher education. For example, financial difficulties, health problems, opportunity, and daily needs. Suddenly, a big change comes to me, when I got the opportunity to come United States in September 2011 with the help of the International Organization for Migration. My first place that I came to the United States is Syracuse New York. As I arrived in Syracuse I got an opportunity to go to school, and I start at Onondaga Community College for my higher education in spring 2012 and I graduated from Onondaga Community College in Spring 2014. After I graduate from Onondaga Community College, I attended Whitman School Of Management at Syracuse University for my Bachelors where I studied double major as Finance and Accounting. Now, this is my final term at the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University. I want to pursue masters of Science in nursing at University of Rochester because the masters program at University of Rochester perfectly fits my dream of earning higher education and being health professional. The redistribution of districts definitely helped voters that felt underrepresented especially those in rurals and cities but this still presents problems with small pockets of voters that are either undecided or strongly in favor of one party over their districts affiliation. The new NY District 23 is a perfect example of this. District 23 is lead by Congressman Tom Reed, a Republican representing a very rural area of Southern Tier New York. The cities of Corning, Ithaca, Olean, Jamestown, and Dunkirk are scattered throughout the district with dozens of public and private universities also present. The district population is mostly isolated in the cities with sparse populations elsewhere. A majority of the population would be young, due to the universities, and mostly urban, because of the cities, so you expect the district to be blue, wrong. District 23 is in fact red, because of the lack of mobilization of young voters to go out and vote. Because of this, older more rural voters decide the party affiliation of the district resulting in representation by Reed. Some argue that Tom Reed's district is gerrymandered in his favor which resulted in his reelection this past November. Although he was reelected, there was still a presence of more younger voters making an effort to go out and vote. John Plumb, Reed's Democratic opponent, had great outreach in the Chautauqua ... Changes in the environment often require changes within the organization driving within that environment. Change–fatigue is one of the challenges organization face. Change may occur in order to remain competitive in response to new competition. Change–fatigue is rampant, and its aggravated by a natural tendency to distrust change that is imposed from above (Morgan, 2001). Historically, Kodak was a business built on a culture of innovation and change, which made them very successful, but as achievement grew so did their complacency. The deep–rooted source of Kodak's problem was a "culture of self–satisfaction". Kodak was critically destroyed by its culture, although it was the quick progress of digital photo technology that is commonly blamed for Kodak's demise (Riley, 2015). On the other hand, Kodak's new leadership has not clearly addressed what are Kodak's essential features and neglected the need to transform the Kodak's culture destinies, which may be any possibility of Kodak future succeed. • 11. Frederick Douglass: An Example Of An Epic Hero Whenever the word hero is mentioned, many people immediately have a visual image of a or their hero. There is a common misconception that heroes have to defeat some giant creature or force, and save a princess. This is the basis of numerous fictional heroes however. Oftenly in novels, movies, etc., the main protagonist or hero in general, can be referred to as an epic hero. An epic hero is typically one who does or did something of much significance and became well–known for it. They also might have had traveled over a great distance, or had a noble birth. An example of an epic hero is Homer's Odysseus from The Odyssey. Odysseus's accomplishments include fighting in the Trojan War, achieving fame, and traveling around the world. Although there are plentiful fictional and made up heroes, there are real life heroes too. One of these is Frederick Douglass, a former slave and one of the biggest leaders in the Civil Rights Movement. Douglass embodied an epic hero because he exemplified national heroism, being capable of great deeds of courage and strength, and distant travel. The first trait of an epic hero possessed by Frederick was national heroism. National heroism means that you are recognized as a hero in your own country, as well as in others. This trait is shown when the author of a short biography of Douglass's life states that "Three years later, after a speaking tour consisting of England, Ireland, and Scotland, Douglass published the first issue of The North Star, a ... The reason is because she had consulted an outside vendor to study Eastman Kodak's IT services and on top of that inquired with other internal and external studies to yield to the decision of outsourcing. I would have done the same thing. It is because when you make inquiries about something, you get a different perspective or see things at a different angle than what you had in mind. It helps you make a better decision than if you do not ask questions. • 15. Analyzing Managerial Decisions: Eastman Kodak Essay Analyzing Managerial Decisions: Eastman Kodak 1) What factors motivated Kodak to change its organizational architecture? When Kodak began making changes to its organizational architecture in 1984, its current architecture did not fit the business environment for the industry. The largest factor that motivated Kodak to make this change was increased competition and decreased market share. Until the early 1980's, Kodak owned the film production market with very little competition. This suddenly changed when Fuji Corporation and many other generic store brands began producing high quality film as well (Brickley, 2009, p. 358). Another factor in this change was technology advancements. As technology rapidly expanded in the 1980's, other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 359). The change was also a mistake and did not have the affect the company thought it would. When making changes to its organizational architecture, Kodak should have designed it with following characteristics in mind: 1) assignment of decision rights, 2) methods of rewarding individuals, and 3) structure of systems to evaluate the performance of both individuals and business units (Brickley, 2009, p. 341). When changing organizational architecture, it is very important to keep in mind that the three components of organizational architecture are interdependent and need to be coordinated (Brickley, 2009, p. 350–1). Simply stated, the company did not implement a rewards method and performance evaluation system (e.g., the MAPP) at the same time it began changing assignment of decision rights (e.g., restructuring into 17 new departments). When one component is changed, the other components should be changed too. Holding employees accountable while simultaneously implementing a decentralized decision making approach would have helped Kodak to improve the effectiveness of the change in architecture. The Erie Canal, which was three–hundred sixty miles, forty feet wide and four feet deep at its completion, was able to bridge a connection from Lake Erie to the Hudson and was a reliable form of transportation (as the roads were not the network it is today). The Erie Canal, after its construction was able to rupture the boundaries of western and eastern (northeastern) New York and encouraged inward and outward flow (migration) of people, animals, goods, money, trade, sickness and disease, ideas, and news, and was able to deconstruct as well as reconstruct the identity of New York State as a consequence of its success. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate how the Erie Canal shaped and reshaped the identity of New York State through the compression and expansion of space and time during industrialization, the second wave of globalization, through the canal's economic success, and through the rupturing of boundaries. • 41. Analysis Of Dont Give Up The Fight By Susan B Anthony In the passage ''Susan B Anthony Dares to Vote'' and ''Don't Give Up The Fight'' both stories share the theme of courage. Susan B Anthony is showing courage by trying to get women to have equal rights even though people don't like her and cops can arrest her. In the passage ''Don't Give Up The Fight'' she is showing courage by standing up to Jacob even though he was being very aggressive and rude towards her. But in both stories, the moods are completely different. In Susan B Anthony the mood is more serious as she tries to get equal rights for woman. In ''Don't Give Up the fight'' the mood is sadder. This is because she is getting bullied by her track team and her coach because of being a girl. • 48. Eastman Kodak Company Case Study Eastman Kodak Company: Funtime Film 1. Diagnose the reasons for Kodak's market share loss and make your assessment of the likely development of the market if Kodak maintained the status quo. Kodak has been losing market share for the past five years to the point it has gone from 76% to 70%. The underlying causes that have generated such losses and have ultimately led consumers to favor competing brands with larger growth are: I. Consumers are tending to view film as a commodity, often buying on price alone. Half of the picture takers claim they know little or nothing about photography. II. Quality differences among films are unclear. Superpremium, Premium, Economy and Price brands showed no real quality difference ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Kodak will position itself with a new and unknown brand, without leveraging on the Kodak credentials and in the upper Economy price range, therefore still not targeting the bulk of competing value brands. Marketing Plan: We consider a mistake for Funtime not to leverage on the Kodak name, wasting an opportunity to gain inmediate consumer awareness and brand recognition. Furthermore, Funtime will not benefit from any advertising support and will not even be available throughout the year, as it will be launched twice a year in off–peak film use times. On the other hand, there will be no attempt to correct trade margins with Funtime, making it even harder for retailers to promote it. With no prior history as a brand, no advertising resources to build brand equity, scarce supply and therefore availability, and trade disincentives to sell the product, we believe Funtime has little probability to succeed. Contribution Margin: Funtime will be launched at 20% below Gold Plus. As you can see from the table below, respecting Kodak's 20% Trade Margin policy, Funtime will contribute with $1.4 per roll making it a profitable line extension. The following table shows the contribution margin of the main products of Kodak, including Funtime, | Royal Gold | Gold Plus | Funtime | Retail Price | 4.19 | 3.49 | 2.79 | Dealer's Margin (20%) | 0.84 | 0.7 | 0.56 | Wholesaler's Price | 3.04 | 2.79 | 2.23 | Cost (30%) | 1.26 | ... If you own a firearm in New York State you know about the secure ammunition and firearms enforcement act or SAFE act for short. What you may not know about it though is much more important. The main argument against this law though is this: until a few bad seeds came into the picture the people who owned these weapons were law abiding and had no desire to kill anyone with them. In fact, this law makes many rifles used for hunting illegal. Sandy hook. What brought this law about are the tragedies of 2012 that caused ripples in all ideas for assault weapons.
