Other western world .All the things is that they need a boost to do something and
Become the world tycoons. There is a Lot of success which excess in Pakistan who
becomes the entrepreneur with their doing very hard working.
There has been an increasing trend of establishing in Pakistan idea generation and
Putting it to work .Some people are happy in their job life but some people why can my
Spend life in limited amount. In this modern environment there is a lot of opportunity.
There is lot of business start in every day and lots of business becomes bankrupt in 1
Year of startup their business. But there some of the person who is survives in this
Situations. In this Report we discuss the Entrepreneurship of “Slim Ghauri” “Netsol”.
How they start with a job and Return back their birthplace their brother give him
Loan to him .Then they start “netsol” in Lahore.
Introduction
Salim ghauri was born in 1955 in Bahawalpur. They left their birthplace at an
early age of three when their father brought his family to Lahore. They first ome
in the Shahi Bazar of Bahawalpur. It can be said that Lahore taught them how to
walk on two feet, but it was Bahwalpur that taught they to walk on my knees
first. The first name given to them was Zain-ul-Abedin. Their elders considered
this name inappropriate for them because they remained sick till the age of five
or six. Hence they was named Salim Ullah by them. Fifty years ago such ideas
were given importance. Their ancestors were Ghauri Pathanswho migrated from
District Meerut in India to Multan and then to Bahawalpur in Pakistan. Their
great grandfather was a hakeem (Doctor of traditional medicine), and
grandfather was a renowned dentist who was also a close friend of the Nawab of
Bahawalpur. Their father Rehmat Ullah Khan Ghauri started his professional life
in extreme hardship. His life was spent in continuous labor. He marketed the
products of a company that supplied oil to ginning factories abounding in the
suburbs of Bahawalpur. As a result of his consistent hard work their family’s
financial situation improved. When he had made a name in the field of
marketing, he acquired an agency for the sale of second hand ginning machines
imported from Romania. Later he expanded this import business to Poland.
That’s when he founded Black Hawk, a company that operated in the
construction industry. At that time Lahore was expanding and suburbs like Faisal
Town and Johar Town were being developed where his company found plenty of
business. Early schooling In Lahore near Nursery Ground, Main Market Gulberg.
After pre-schoolI joined Linzer Day high school, a co-ed institution which was run
by a German lady who was also the principal of the school. Salim Ghauri started
college in 1971 at FC College, Lahore. Salim ghauri was a pre-engineering student
and although I did get decent grades, He’s academic activities were limited. had a
different and unique world view.
The Beginning
Salim Ghauri was introduced to computers in Romania. This chance encounter
changed their life and later it became their introduction in Pakistan. Their friends
observe that he might not have benefited from my degree in oil and gas but
Salim’s have dug up the potential of information technology in Pakistan in the
form of Net Sol. He did a six month COBOL language course from there. There
was a company in Lahore called Systems Limited Company which had its own
computer center. We used to go there to test our program, because the Mall
Road institute did not have a computer of its own. They actually learned to use a
computer without really using a computer.
Job at Citi Bank, Saudi Arabia
He got a call from Citibank where He had applied for a computer related job
some time ago. It was because Salim ghauri really wanted a career in computers.
The next day He went to Citibank for the interview. The person interviewing
salim was an American whose name was James. When he saw the name of FC
College on resume, he told them that he had also taught there once. This calmed
Him nerves because he talked to them about their city in a very friendly
atmosphere. Then they talked about their present job and they told James that
he was the overseer of transport and earned up to 8,000 Riyals including
overtime. James told them that the job at Citibank was of night shift and he
would have to stay up working the whole night. He told them theri salary would
be 3,000 Riyals only. James further told them that the job was in Damam so he
would have to go to DamamfromRiyadh. When they look back they understand
that the decision to leave their job and join Citibank was one of the best decisions
of his life.
Stepping in the world of entrepreneurship
They have been living in Saudi Arabia for a while and had attained maturity and
accomplishment required for the next step in life. they learnt Arabic language
and familiarized myself with thee socio-cultural norms and lifestyle of the Arabs.
Many Pakistanis had settled in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East in pursuit of a
better life. In Saudi Arabia IBM products were distributed by Jufali Brothers & Co.
Their cousin, Jamal Ghauri was employed with Jufali Brothers. When in 1981 IBM
launched personalcomputers and Jufali Brothers were sent a PC in a box with the
directions that it had to be assembled for sale. No one at Jufali Brothers had the
know how to assemble a PC. Jamal recommended Salim’s name to his boss and
told him that he could assemble and operate that PC. Salim was specially invited
by Jamal’s boss and turned it on. Jamal’s boss asked them to take the PC home,
understand its working so that later he could teach them how to operate it.
One day, they received a call from Jufali Brothers, one of their clients
wanted to commission a software which he had already operated for the
company. He went to them and met the Lebanese gentleman who was the
prospective client. In that first meeting they agreed to call them in a couple of
days’ time and he did. In the second meeting he informed me that he wanted a
pay roll and HR software for his company. He agreed to develop the software for
him and started working tirelessly on it. We did not agree to a time frame or a
fee. We did not agree to a time frame or a fee. They just took the opportunity
like a leap of faith. It took them one and a half months to develop the software
and take it to the client. they was more interested in the success of the software
they have developed than receiving the fee. When the client company launched
the softwareit worked seamlessly. The client was pleased . they wanted to shout
from the roof tops that They had arrived at the first milestone of my journey.
While they was working as a computer instructor in Saudi Arabia and earning one
hundred riyals an hour, the idea of opening a computer center sprung in mind.
Netsol
Salim Ghauri did not return to Pakistan with a substantial amount of seed money.
Actually he was not at all concerned about the amount of investment they
required to kick start my business. They only had a laptop, a housein Karachiand
approximately four to five thousand dollars. Nevertheless the market sentiment
was getting positive because the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad
Nawaz Sharif being a businessman was perceived to be business-friendly and the
world was turning its attention towards Pakistan. No doubt it was an ideal time to
set up a new business in Pakistan. They had international experience in the field
of computers but the circumstances were not particularly very conducive.
Regardless, the entrepreneur in them was ready to take up that challenge and
they was determined not to back down.
1995: Their journey to NetSol is filled with adventurism and it started in 1995. It
took a year to get the company registered and find a suitable office. They
wanted to rent an office which would not be a financial burden on them. In the
beginning they looked at a few buildings in Barkat Market, New Garden Town
Lahore, but his friend vetoed them. He was of the view that the office should be
close to their residence so that could commute easily. They only came to
appreciate his advice when he started spending my days and nights at the office.
He was living in Defence, so keeping Shahab Bhai’s advice in mind they decided
to rent an office in Y-Block DHA for eighteen thousand rupees. They paid one
hundred and fifty thousand rupees in advance but when he went to collect the
rental agreement the next day, the real estate agent told them that the owner of
the property had changed his mind. His Brother had given me two million rupees
which would be about fifty thousand US dollars at that time. In those days one
dollar was valued at forty Pakistani rupees. THey was gambling with two million
rupees and everything depended upon the success of their business. They had to
pay the first month rent, salary and all the other miscellaneous expenses from
this initial investment. Even at that time fifty thousand dollars was not a big
amount but they was confident in their abilities and knew that experience and
hard work will create opportunities for them. only had two suits and would wear
them alternatively. In the beginning their cousin Shahid Mukhtar was in team. He
was rather young at that time but still he helped them setup and run the office.
They had given all the managerial tasks to him. He was the company’s C.E.O,
office boy as well as coffee maker. Those early days were filled with enthusiasm.
He called all of my acquaintances to tell them that he had started a software
development and networking business in Lahore. he had believed that in a matter
of days people would be queuing up in front of their office but in a few days he
was forced to face the bitter reality. The company’s first office was a big hall in
which we had erected two cabins. We had planned to set up work stations in the
open space. In the beginning They named company as Networks Solutions and
we offered networking and software development.
TURNING POINT
They visited a number of businessmen but did not succeed in getting any
business from them. All of them were content with how things were being run.
After one and a half month of hard work we could not secure a single contract.
They waited for the day when office’s phone would ring and a costumer would
inquire about their services, but that day never came. Hence they asked their
wife to call them twice every day. She was surprised and asked them why she
should call him. To which replied that the phone in office remained silent and
with her call the office would have a little life in it. She started calling every day
and every time the phone rang, wished it to be the phone call was waiting for.
After months of waiting, finally received the call that was waiting for. Itwas
first business call in the new office and with it NetSol broke ground of its IT
endeavor in Pakistan. It was Naeem Ghauri from London who was working in the
IT department of Mercedes Benz. He told them that he had been transferred to
Bangkok to start a leasing company for Mercedes Benz and he wanted help with
that. they remained calm and asked him what could do for him. He wanted them
to find people who could operate AS400 computers. One day received a call at
their house and a gentleman by the name of Anwar was on the other side. He
asked them if I was looking for experts in AS400 computers. He met him the next
day and told Naeem that he had found all the four required persons and was
going to meet him.
1997: All through 1996 providing services to Mercedes Benz and planning to
somehow get a software development contract from them. On 21st January,
1997, Eugen called them out of the blue. He thought he just wanted to catch up
with them but instead he asked if He could develop software for Mercedes
Taiwan. He eagerly accepted and he shared the details about the project with
them. The software was supposed to be in Chinese language and its purpose was
to organize the leasing finance system. Eugen e-mailed them further details of
the project after a few days. He started hiring a team accordingly. Apart from
procurementof hardware, Hehad to make certain business decisions which were
necessary in the initial phase of the project. My first concern was capital
investment but He was content with the fact that my company had new business.
When approached Mercedes Benz for their software development business
towards the end of 1996, He felt the need to shorten the name of my company.
“Network Solutions” limited the scope of the company to just networking
business. He wanted a single word name and my mind was continuously
preoccupied with it. He came up with a few names but he was not really
convinced. At last it occurred to them to take the first three alphabets of
“Network” and join it with the first three alphabets of “Solution”. And that’s how
I came up with “NetSol”.

  • 7. Stepping in the world of entrepreneurship They have been living in Saudi Arabia for a while and had attained maturity and accomplishment required for the next step in life. they learnt Arabic language and familiarized myself with thee socio-cultural norms and lifestyle of the Arabs. Many Pakistanis had settled in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East in pursuit of a better life. In Saudi Arabia IBM products were distributed by Jufali Brothers & Co. Their cousin, Jamal Ghauri was employed with Jufali Brothers. When in 1981 IBM launched personalcomputers and Jufali Brothers were sent a PC in a box with the directions that it had to be assembled for sale. No one at Jufali Brothers had the know how to assemble a PC. Jamal recommended Salim’s name to his boss and told him that he could assemble and operate that PC. Salim was specially invited by Jamal’s boss and turned it on. Jamal’s boss asked them to take the PC home, understand its working so that later he could teach them how to operate it. One day, they received a call from Jufali Brothers, one of their clients wanted to commission a software which he had already operated for the company. He went to them and met the Lebanese gentleman who was the prospective client. In that first meeting they agreed to call them in a couple of

He agreed to develop the software for him and started working tirelessly on it. We did not agree to a time frame or a fee. We did not agree to a time frame or a fee. They just took the opportunity like a leap of faith. It took them one and a half months to develop the software and take it to the client. they was more interested in the success of the software they have developed than receiving the fee. When the client company launched the softwareit worked seamlessly. The client was pleased . they wanted to shout from the roof tops that They had arrived at the first milestone of my journey. While they was working as a computer instructor in Saudi Arabia and earning one hundred riyals an hour, the idea of opening a computer center sprung in mind. Netsol Salim Ghauri did not return to Pakistan with a substantial amount of seed money. Actually he was not at all concerned about the amount of investment they required to kick start my business. They only had a laptop, a housein Karachiand approximately four to five thousand dollars. Nevertheless the market sentiment was getting positive because the Prime Minister of Pakistan Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif being a businessman was perceived to be business-friendly and the
  • 9. world was turning its attention towards Pakistan. No doubt it was an ideal time to set up a new business in Pakistan. They had international experience in the field of computers but the circumstances were not particularly very conducive. Regardless, the entrepreneur in them was ready to take up that challenge and they was determined not to back down. 1995: Their journey to NetSol is filled with adventurism and it started in 1995. It took a year to get the company registered and find a suitable office. They wanted to rent an office which would not be a financial burden on them. In the beginning they looked at a few buildings in Barkat Market, New Garden Town Lahore, but his friend vetoed them. He was of the view that the office should be close to their residence so that could commute easily. They only came to appreciate his advice when he started spending my days and nights at the office. He was living in Defence, so keeping Shahab Bhai’s advice in mind they decided to rent an office in Y-Block DHA for eighteen thousand rupees. They paid one hundred and fifty thousand rupees in advance but when he went to collect the rental agreement the next day, the real estate agent told them that the owner of the property had changed his mind. His Brother had given me two million rupees which would be about fifty thousand US dollars at that time. In those days one dollar was valued at forty Pakistani rupees. THey was gambling with two million
  • 10. rupees and everything depended upon the success of their business. They had to pay the first month rent, salary and all the other miscellaneous expenses from this initial investment. Even at that time fifty thousand dollars was not a big amount but they was confident in their abilities and knew that experience and hard work will create opportunities for them. only had two suits and would wear them alternatively. In the beginning their cousin Shahid Mukhtar was in team. He was rather young at that time but still he helped them setup and run the office. They had given all the managerial tasks to him. He was the company’s C.E.O, office boy as well as coffee maker. Those early days were filled with enthusiasm. He called all of my acquaintances to tell them that he had started a software development and networking business in Lahore. he had believed that in a matter of days people would be queuing up in front of their office but in a few days he was forced to face the bitter reality. The company’s first office was a big hall in which we had erected two cabins. We had planned to set up work stations in the open space. In the beginning They named company as Networks Solutions and we offered networking and software development.
  • 11. TURNING POINT They visited a number of businessmen but did not succeed in getting any business from them. All of them were content with how things were being run. After one and a half month of hard work we could not secure a single contract. They waited for the day when office’s phone would ring and a costumer would inquire about their services, but that day never came. Hence they asked their wife to call them twice every day. She was surprised and asked them why she should call him. To which replied that the phone in office remained silent and with her call the office would have a little life in it. She started calling every day and every time the phone rang, wished it to be the phone call was waiting for. After months of waiting, finally received the call that was waiting for. Itwas first business call in the new office and with it NetSol broke ground of its IT endeavor in Pakistan. It was Naeem Ghauri from London who was working in the IT department of Mercedes Benz. He told them that he had been transferred to Bangkok to start a leasing company for Mercedes Benz and he wanted help with that. they remained calm and asked him what could do for him. He wanted them to find people who could operate AS400 computers. One day received a call at their house and a gentleman by the name of Anwar was on the other side. He
  • 12. asked them if I was looking for experts in AS400 computers. He met him the next day and told Naeem that he had found all the four required persons and was going to meet him. 1997: All through 1996 providing services to Mercedes Benz and planning to somehow get a software development contract from them. On 21st January, 1997, Eugen called them out of the blue. He thought he just wanted to catch up with them but instead he asked if He could develop software for Mercedes Taiwan. He eagerly accepted and he shared the details about the project with them. The software was supposed to be in Chinese language and its purpose was to organize the leasing finance system. Eugen e-mailed them further details of the project after a few days. He started hiring a team accordingly. Apart from procurementof hardware, Hehad to make certain business decisions which were necessary in the initial phase of the project. My first concern was capital investment but He was content with the fact that my company had new business. When approached Mercedes Benz for their software development business towards the end of 1996, He felt the need to shorten the name of my company. “Network Solutions” limited the scope of the company to just networking business. He wanted a single word name and my mind was continuously
  • 13. preoccupied with it. He came up with a few names but he was not really convinced. At last it occurred to them to take the first three alphabets of “Network” and join it with the first three alphabets of “Solution”. And that’s how I came up with “NetSol”.
