 Azim Hashim Premji is an Indian business tycoon, investor, engineer, and philanthropist,
who was the chairman of Wipro Limited.
 In the 1980s Wipro entered the IT field.
 The exit of IBM from the Indian market in 1975, Wipro started manufacturing computer
hardware, software development , under a special license from Sentinel.
 The $1.5 million company in hydrogenated cooking fats grew within to an over $6 billion
diversified.
 He is informally known as the Czar of the Indian IT Industry.

 His father was a noted businessman and was known as Rice King of Burma.
 Premji has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Stanford
University.
 Wipro dealt in manufacture cooking oil under the brand name Sunflower
Vanaspati, a byproduct of oil manufacture.
 In 1966, on the news of his father's death, the then 21-year-old Azim Premji
returned home from Stanford University, where he was studying engineering, to
take charge of Wipro.
 Thereafter, Premji made a focused shift from soaps to software.
 The Western India Products later became Wipro Ltd.

 Born on September 10, 1964 as Ma Yun in Hangzhou.
 He became a tour guide and would trade tours for English lessons.
 He saw education as his ticket to success.
 After applying to several jobs, he finally got hired by a nearby university
as an English teacher.
 1995: First trip to the US and first experience with the Internet, after that
he was determined to make a Chinese internet company.
 Four years and two failures later, he persuaded 17 of his friends to invest
in his plan for “Alibaba”

 At an early age, Ma developed a desire to learn
English so he rode his bike each morning in order
to go to a nearby hotel and converse with
foreigners.
 He would guide them around the city for free in
order to practice and improve his English. He did
this for nine years.
 At first he started building websites for Chinese
companies with the help of friends in the US.

 In April 1995, Ma, his wife and a friend collected twenty thousand dollars and
started an Internet company.
 Their company was dedicated to creating websites for companies. He named their
company "China Yellow Pages.“ Within three years, his company had made

 In 1999, he decided to quit and went back to Hangzhou with his team in order to
found Alibaba in his apartment with a group of 17 friends.
 He started a new round of venture development with U$800,000.
