Animals need oxygen which they get from air or water, and produce carbon dioxide waste, while plants need carbon dioxide which they get from air or water, and produce oxygen waste. The atmosphere consists of five layers - the troposphere where weather occurs, the stratosphere where many airplanes and the ozone layer are located, the mesosphere where meteor fragments burn up, the thermosphere where the space shuttle orbits and auroras occur, and the exosphere where most satellites orbit. Weather is influenced by air temperature and pressure, precipitation, wind strength and direction, and cloud types. The greenhouse effect involves certain gases trapping heat around Earth and regulating the climate.
