The Descent shots
By Chloe Potter
Tracking Shot.
• The first shot you see is a Tracking. This shot is
a starting of what’s about to happen. It starts
with a wide shot then moves into a close up. It
shows Jessie’s, Sarah’s daughter, birthday
cake. It does this because Jessie never got to
have her next birthday and this is Sarah
dreaming about it.
CU (Close Up)
• The second shot is a close up. It is a high angle
shot to suggest weakness from the accident. It
is when you see Sarah in the hospital bed and
she has just woke up for the first time since
the accident.
MS (Mid Shot)
• The next shot is a Mid Shot. It is also a high
shot this shows that she is even more weak
than the last shot because in this one you can
see more of where she is. It shows Sarah
laying in bed looking confused about what
happened after they left the lake.
MS (Mid Shot)
• This shot is the same as the last. A Mid Shot.
In this shot you see Sarah sitting up in the
hospital bed still looking confused about what
is happening. She is freaking out and
unplugging herself from all the hospital
equipment.
CA (Cutaway)
• This shit is a cutaway shot. It is showing the
heart monitor showing the straight line that
means she is dead. This could mean to make
the audience question whether she is dead or
not.
MS (Mid Shot)
• This shot is a Mid Shot. This shows Sarah
standing outside of her room looking around
to find someone who can help her.
WS (Wide Shot)
• This shot is a Wide Shot. This shot shows that
there is in fact no one in the hospital when
normally it would be full of people. This shows
that it could be a dream.
Trombone Shot.
• This is a Trombone shot. A trombone shot is
when the camera man is quite far away and is
zoomed into the subject then starts to walk
closer to it while zooming out. This shot shows
that Sarah has saw something that has
frightened her and she is contemplating what
to do.
Steadicam Shot
• This is a Steadicam Shot. This shot shows that
Sarah is running away from something that is
scaring her and it shows that the background
lights are turning off as if to close in on her.
Steadicam Shot
• This is another Steadicam Shot. This Shot
shows that there is something in the darkness
trying to get to her.
WS (Wide Shot)
• This is a Wide Shot. It shows that she has
suddenly ran into the light into her friends,
Beth, arms. This could mean that she was
imagining what was going on.
Hand Held Camera shot.
• This is a hand held camera shot. This means
that the camera moves around the characters
to show what’s going on.
CU (Close Up)
• This shot is a Close Up. This shows that Juno,
Sarah’s and Beth’s friend, is upset too. Then
the whole scene ends.
