Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

2. Tracking Shot.
A tracking shot is used at the
beginning of the sequence.
It starts in a wide shot then
tracks into a close up , move
in to the birthday cake .The
aim of this is because Sarah is
dreaming about Jessica while
she is in the hospital bed
because Jessica has died. By
Jessica holding the cake it
resembles her dyeing before
her birthday and maybe
Sarah feels guilty.
3. CU (Close Up)
An CU is when a feature or
subject takes up the entire frame.
The second camera shot is of
Sarah who has just woke up after
her terrible car accident. They
used this as a close up to show
her regaining conscience and also
to probably show her wounds.
4. MS (Mid Shot)
A mid shot is a part of the
subject in more detail
whilst still giving an
impression of the whole
subject.
This is a mid shot of Sarah
when she has just left the
hospital bed and is
questioning what is going
on. It doesn't help that
afterwards the lights turn
off and she is a little
confused.
5. Trombone Shot
A trombone shot is when the
camera is on tracks and as they
move forward they zoom out
the lense on the camera.
The aim in this shot is showing
the amount of fear that Sarah
is showing , with the lights
blackening out and then she
continues to run through the
corridor. She also widens her
eyes to show the fear. It’s a lack
off her dreams.
6. WS (Wide Shot).
This a wide shot . A wide shot takes
up the frame fully, or at least as
much as possible. The same as a
long shot.
This shot is when she has just left
her hospital bed and is running
down the corridor because of the
lights turning off.
7. Steadicam Shot
This shot is a steadicam shot.
A steadicam shot is when a
character is running for
instance and instead of the
camera being bumpy it is
smooth.
In these 2 camera angles of
Sarah in which she is running.
The shot is showing that
Sarah is panicking because
the lights are suddenly
dimmed and there's no one
around.
8. Steadicam shot.
There are a couple of steadicam shots . They use this for when
Sarah runs into her friend beths arms. The whole point for why
the camera spins around them is to reassure that she is safe and
probably still isn't in a daze after leaving her hospital bed.
9. WS (Wide Shot)
This shot is when she is
crying in beths arms about
Jessica's death , which
occurred in a car crash , in
the middle of the corridor.
10. CU (Close Up)
The first camera shot shows
juno crying about the death of
Jessica. It’s a shot showing
detail. It also shows very little
background. It just focuses on
her face nothing around her.
This is to show that juno is
emotional about the death of
Jessica which is Sarah's
daughter.
