Designing for Touch: Mobile Design is Industrial DesignJosh Clark
Designing for touch means you're doing more than just slinging pixels: you’re designing a physical interface to be explored by human hands. Just as surely as if you were soldering circuit boards, molding plastic, or shuffling die-cast buttons, your design defines the physical experience of the device, with honest-to-god ergonomic issues. Explore how industrial-design principles apply to mobile app design, and learn the rules of thumb (and fingers) that describe the best app designs.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Objective:
Prepare a presentation or a paper using research, basic comparative analysis, data organization and application of economic information. You will make an informed assessment of an economic climate outside of the United States to accomplish an entertainment industry objective.
2. Frame 1 – Under Water Scene
• This will be our very first shot and this will be of
girls's face underwater from where she is being
held under by the antagonist. The shot will be a
close up shot of her, so we can see her facial
expressions and how much distraught she is.
• She will be trying to scream and shot but the
sound will be muffled as she will be underwater,
and this will mean the picture will be distorted.
• We will try and record this by placing a phone in a
water tight sandwich bag so we can get
underwater without our phones being damaged.
3. Frame 2 – Setting the Scene
• The next shot will then be where we first meet the
antagonist and we can see him in full. This shot
will be a long shot so we can see the surrounding
and understand where the opening sequence is
set. We will also see how the characters are
positioned in the shot.
• We will have the antagonist behind girl whilst
gripping her head by her hair. The next action that
will happen is that the antagonist will push the girl
underwater again as he is trying to extract
information out of the girl.
4. Frame 3 – Close up of Girl
• We will then cut to another close up shot of girl's
head going into the water. She will be screaming
and shouting and then as she enters the water she
will then go muffled again.
• We will see the hand on the bag of the head so we
can understand what is going on.
5. Frame 4 – Searching for Information
• The next shot will then show another antagonist
searching around the house and in rooms trying to
find out information out. These will include a
variety of shots that consist of close ups of his
hands looking through documents and pictures
and the long shots so we can see where the man
is.
• We will then add some non diegetic sound from
the other room of Emily screaming and shouting
as the man looks for information.
6. • After the shot of the man looking through the girls
possessions, we then go back to the bathroom
scene with along shot from behind of the girl and
this is where we can also see how the characters
are positioned.
• There will be a lot of shouting and the girl will be
crying and unsure as of what is happening.
Frame 5 – Long Shot
7. Frame 6 – Police Phone Call
• We will then have a ‘split wall effect’ of the
bathroom and someone in the house next door.
They will over hear the screaming and shouting,
and will then call the police.
8. Frame 7 – Mid shot: Angry
• Oblivious to someone calling the police the
antagonist then carries on drowning the girl trying
to find out information.
• Although this time the drowning is for a lot longer
and more violently because the antagonist is
getting more and more annoyed.
9. • They then start to hear police sirens and the start
to panic. One of the antagonists then runs into the
room asking what to do, and the two men have a
little argument as they are both annoyed and
angry that they haven’t got what they came for.
• This will be a long shot so we can see all three
characters and we can see that the girl is severely
injured and breathing heavily.
Frame 8 - Argument
10. • After the two men fight one man smashes the
girls head on the edge of the pass so she passes
out with a deep cut. This could caught with a close
up shot.
• The two men then start to run and try to get away
without leaving evidence as to what happened.
We could have non diegetic sound in the
background of police sirens getting closer and
closer.
Frame 9 – Passing out
11. Frame 10 – Running away
• The final shot will then be off the two men
running away in the darkness. Our initial idea is
that there will be a low shot, so the camera at
ground level behind the men, so it is sort of like
the men are running away into the darkness.
• This creates suspense to what is going to happen
next and makes us want to watch on and see what
they were trying to find out.
• After they have ran off into the darkness we could
have a fading effect to a black screen where we
could add in the title of the actual film.
• That would then be the end to our opening
sequence.
