Vesuvius. You watch as everyone runs, terrified, trying to get out of the city, you run
too. What you may know is that your city s destruction will benefit the future. When
Mt. Vesuvius erupted and destroyed pompeii and some other cities nearby, those
cities were frozen in time. Now we can learn more about a life of a person in pompeii
thanks to Mt. Vesuvius s eruption. It was a normal day for the people in pompeii. It
was 24th of August 79 AD. Early in the morning there were tremors. The people
thought nothing of it because they get a lot of minor earthquakes there. But at about
1 PM a huge cloud of smoke came out of Mt. Vesuvius. Now some people knew...

relaxing, but, Sometime later, the toxic fumes that the volcano released killed him.
Pliny the younger says that he was old and had a bad windpipe so his windpipe
could not handle it. Later at about 2 PM volcanic rocks came out of the volcano.
They hit the homes, damaging the roofs of the houses. Hours later the eruption
finally stopped. The whole entire city was destroyed and covered in ash. Little did
the people know that their deaths would help the future know more about them.

city was excavated and the city was found. So were the 1,150 bodies, covered in an
ash coating. Some were found holding jewelry. Others covering their face with

about Roman life. The city was covered with over 7 feet of ash. Most people that
lived there died because they could not get out fast enough. The city is a part of
history preserved for over a thousand years. These days it is a huge tourist
