1. Of Mice And Men Essay Topics
Crafting an essay on the given topic can be a challenging task, demanding a deep understanding
of the novel "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck. The complexity lies in the need to delve
into the various themes, characters, and events in the story, while also offering insightful analysis
and interpretation. To create a compelling essay, one must explore the relationships between
characters, the societal issues raised, and the author's underlying messages.
The challenge extends to selecting an original and thought-provoking essay topic that adds value
to the reader's understanding of the novel. This involves navigating through the common themes
explored in "Of Mice and Men," such as friendship, dreams, loneliness, and the harsh realities of
the American Dream, and finding a unique angle to discuss these elements.
Moreover, balancing textual evidence with personal analysis is crucial, requiring a keen eye for
detail and an ability to connect quotes to broader themes. It's essential to avoid mere summary
and instead offer a nuanced interpretation that reflects a deep engagement with the material.
Writing style also plays a significant role, as the essay must be well-organized, coherent, and
articulate. Developing a strong thesis statement and ensuring a logical flow of ideas can be
demanding, especially when dealing with a text as rich and multi-layered as "Of Mice and Men."
In conclusion, crafting an essay on "Of Mice and Men" involves navigating through the
complexities of the novel, selecting a compelling topic, and providing a nuanced analysis. The
process demands a thorough understanding of the text, critical thinking skills, and effective
writing techniques to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.

2. The Effectiveness Of The Supervision Styles
Throughout this paper, with the aid of Gibbs Model of reflection, refer to
appendix one (shaaban, 2014), I will reflect on the efficacy of the supervision
styles I experienced throughout my degree at my clinical site. These styles are
direct supervision and in direct supervision. I will evaluate the strengths and
weaknesses of each style and how it impacted my learning. I will take into
consideration the effect it had on my own learning and how I can use this lesson to
ensure I have a positive impact on students I supervise in the future as a new
graduate MRT. Description During the first half of the degree, students must have
direct supervision from a qualified radiographer. Direct supervision is where the
supervisor oversees activities as they occur and provides constant direction, feedback,
and assistance(wiseGEEK, 2014). This is necessary in the clinical setting for junior
students so the supervisor can step in and help stabilize the situation if it gets out of
control, which is very important for health and safety reasons (wiseGEEK, 2014).
Feelings The main learning point in the first year in the clinical setting were common
examinations such as chest x rays and becoming confident communicating with
patients (unitec.ac.nz, 2014). Initially I felt intimidated and anxious in this
environment because I had someone that I had just met, watching and listening to
everything I said and did. This is fairly common and is referred to as supervision
induced anxiety
3. Essay On LAA Testing
Due to increasing competition in the field of medical testing it has become prudent
for Laboratorio De Analisis Argentina (LAA) to evaluate its process and identify
strengths and weaknesses to improve the operations of their laboratories. An in
depth investigation into day to day, step by step breakdown of activities has
uncovered where, and how LAA can achieve efficient operations. From the original
collection of samples to the final step of communicating the test results to the
patients, LAA has shown that they have created a process with numerous factors to
success as well as room for improvement. The following is a flow chart
representative of the steps of the process and the reliance each step has to other steps:

If the company is adamant at meeting the 5,000 sample a day mark and removing
demand variability it may be worthwhile to look into holding off on samples
arriving later in the day as to have immediate work for testers and the latter steps at
the beginning of the next day. Samples from the second 8 hour shift of a certain day
that are processed during the first 8 hour shift of the following day will still meet the
objective of communicating results within the 24 hour limit. This technique could
also potentially decrease standard deviation as it tries to evenly control the sample
flow and demand variability in the daily process. Routine delivery times for satellite
and external labs could also lead to more consistency within the process.

4. No-Touch Rules Should Be Changed In Schools
Pda no touch rules should be changed in schools. For years kids have been being
taught the meaning of good touch bad touch now they are being taught to not touch
at all, kids cannot learn anything beneficial from this unusual rule. Some kids need
the hugs. And there isn t any reason why children should not be able to hug or even
high five a friend or teacher.
My first reason to support my topic is there isn t a reason why children cannot give
or receive hugs in school. We have been taught the meaning of good touch and bad
touch and now we are expected to not touch at all. Children cannot learn anything
from that. Kids need to be taught what the right way to touch someone and what is a
bad way to touch someone is. Let us say the person ... Show more content on

hugging or contact . Banning bad touch is better than banning all touch, it is a
school that children learn in so they should be taught the difference between when
is ok to hug someone and when it isn t ok to hug someone. Let s say that Ben hugs
his best friend Megan when she is crying over a loss in the family, this is a
appropriate time to hug someone. But say Ben then goes into his classroom late
during a test and sees his other buddy Josh, and goes up and hugs him and makes
all sorts of noise. This is an example of a inappropriate time for hugging. they
should be taught how it is ok to hug someone and how it isn t. Like if Caleb goes
and hugs Ben from the side or a traditional hug, this is a right way and a appropriate
way to hug someone. But if Caleb goes and hugs Ben and also touches his backside
to be funny, this is a wrong way to hug someone. Banning hugging isn t needed
because children are going to hug their friends and getting a detention because you
hugged your friend would cause the parents to be a little more than agitated. Some
angry parents expressed their feelings online saying that the schools have bigger
issues than to worry about a child hugging another, like fights, or school shootings.
Another mother says There are bigger crimes than two children showing affection for

5. Hester And Dimmesdale s Shame
Hawthorne artfully demonstrates the difference between external and internal
portrayals of shame and the consequences of both, by using the characters of Hester
Prynne and the Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. By examining Hester and Dimmesdale
s way of dealing with the repercussions of their indiscretion and analyzing Benjamin
Kilborne s critique Shame Conflicts and Tragedies in The Scarlet Letter, one can see
if, or by what measure, if either Hester s or Dimmesdale s shame is worse than the
other. I believe Dimmesdale s internal battle with his shame is far worse than Hester
s outward shame because it is unbearable, as mentioned by Kilborne.
An interesting idea brought up by Kilborne is how both Hester and Dimmesdale
personify their sin. He questions why Dimmesdale is forced into seclusion from
shame as it reaches to the depths of his soul if Hester is able to embrace her sin and
shame and hold them up as realities. Before looking at this more closely, the way
people perceive shame is an important factor.
Kilborne mentions, In this context, shame can be a fundamental reaction to (and a
defense against) wrong feelings, or being helpless in the face of the intensity of
feelings, or being flooded by feelings one cannot understand. In addition to these
shameful ego ideal conflicts, the fear of the intensity of feelings itself generates
shame, which then produces defenses against shame as an affect whose intensity is
threatening.

6. Nationalism And Personhood
The relationship between personhood and nationalism is a complex and contended
discussion. There is extensive theory surrounding the contested understanding of the
ways personal identity and (national) social identities are mutually informed. It can be
argued that nationalism plays a role in shaping the personhood, as personal identity
draws on the cultural aspects of national identity and integrates these ideas into
individual self understanding (Hearn 2007). Through ethnographic case studies, this
essay will examine the role of Billig s banal nationalism , Cohen s personal
nationalism and Hearn s embedded nationalism in understanding how national
identities (as social categories) are linked to personhood and used to make sense of the

Tajfel s theory is centered on how the individual need for positive self image is
consequent to the outlay of personal identities into positively valued social identities
(Tajfel, 1974, 1981). These are supposedly contrasted with negatively valued
identities. To Billig, identities are not simply organized through processes, but instead
ways of habit entrenched into the surrounding environment, both material and social
(Billig 1995). It is argued that personhood is not merely linked to nationalism as a
process of filling psychological needs, but that individuals adapt to the environment
that renders these categories imperative (Hearn 2007, pp.

cently, a new( ish) band from Japan called Babymetal (or as they like to be called,
BABYMETAL) has taken the music world by storm. Their rapid rise to success has
caught a lot of people s attention within and outside the metal community,
culminating in a North American tour where they opened for none other than Lady

So who are these young teenage girls and what are they doing on stage with a metal

What has the metal community s reaction been to them? Are they the real deal ? Is

Whatever your opinion may be about the kind of music that they play and perform,
there is no denying that every member is a talented musician. The 3 girls are
excellent vocalists overall. Even the backing band is full of top notch musicians.
Guitarist Takayoshi Ohmura even plays for ex Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman
s band. Live, they are one of the most exciting acts to see with their high energy
performances. Their live shows are well staged events with choreographed dance
routines, elaborate lighting, and heavy use of props. Unlike an average metal
concert, their shows are not only about the music, but also about the whole
experience. This is not to say that their music is not good, because they really bring it
on the stage.
What has the metal community s reaction been like? Polarising. Babymetal has
faced a lot of backlash from tr00 metal fans, the primary reasons being their
gimmicky style and that they are just a bunch of musicians who are paid to
perform live, and whose music is dictated by record labels. However some metal
fans have accepted them with open arms, calling them a breath of fresh air in a
genre struggling for relevancy. Their fans also include young kids, crossover J pop
fans, and indie fans. Their following is extremely diverse as a result of their

9. Language Frustration Essay
Language Frustration
The article titled Language Use in Family and in Society written by Lee Thomas
and Linh Cao, is about how language can affect a single family in a terrible way.
Thomas teaches linguistics at the University of Nevada, Reno, and Cao is an English
teacher at Sparks High School located in Sparks, Nevada. Cao has much background
information on the topic because she herself is part of the family discussed in this
essay. Their concern with a language barrier is that it leads to confusion and
frustration within the family. They give examples of families becoming more distant
due to miscommunication and their sense of loss. Imagine trying to speak with your

For example this article shows the frustration within families and the effects it has in
the future. This problem may change the decision of someone wanting to move to a
certain location due to the language barrier. This change may take a long time, but
through acceptance and instruction, it may be done. The problem with attempting
monolingualism is that few people would agree to give up their language and learn
another. By limiting the number of dialects, and possibly removing certain languages
all together, we can improve social interaction. This in turn would remove what the
families see as frustration, confusion, and isolation. Parents are becoming isolated
from their children due to their negligence to keep up with the language taught in
schools. The misunderstanding may result in unintentional lack of respect between
family members and separation of relatives. There may be an argument between
families of the proper way to state something but both can be right. Neither person is
willing to accept the others ways. It is very difficult to change a language spoken a
lifetime, especially for families who don t often interact with society.
The structure of this article is problem/solution. Throughout the passage, the problem
is presented by including dialogue from a conversation within the families. For
example, when the family is trying to plan their
10. The Fight Against Poverty Around The World
One of the most important steps in the fight against poverty around the world is the
creation of jobs. The most competitive and successful in this direction is the social
entrepreneurship. The task of the social enterprises is to contribute to the solving of
the social problems and promoting of the people s livelihood. Social enterprises
provide jobs for hundreds of thousands of people in the various fields: food
production, marketing, credit, insurance, and transportation. The social enterprises
open a variety of employment opportunities for the people with disabilities,
marginalized groups, youth, and women. In many countries the social enterprises are
working closely together with the governmental organizations, both at national and
local level. Today, entrepreneurs and enterprises with social responsibility around the
world receive support from the non profit organizations, foundations, governments,
and individuals. However, despite the fact that the benefits of social entrepreneurship
are clear to many, there are many difficulties with its development. There is still not
reached a consensus on what social enterpriseis and who can be called a social
entrepreneur. Some believe that the term social entrepreneur must refer only to the
founding organizations, the main source of income of which is the payment of their
clients. Others believe that the social entrepreneur is one who performs work on the
government contracts, and still others believe the social
11. True Love In Noah Calhoun s The Notebook
People say that they are in love or that that they think they have found the one all of
the time. Those words have almost become so easy to use but unfortunately it seems
like no one really knows the true meaning of them anymore. So what is love? What
is true love? As said in The Notebook, The best loveis the kind that awakens the soul
and makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our
minds. Noah Calhoun or in Dear John when John says, and when her lips met
mine, I knew that I could to be a hundred and visit every country in the world, but
nothing would ever compare to the single moment when I first kissed the girl of
my dreams and knew that my love would last forever John. Both of those quotes
are so powerful and so passionate and both of the men saying them to be so in love
with their girls. But was either of these situations true love? Most people would
say yes and that is probably why both films went on to be two of the most famous
and most favorable love films of our time. But other than their amazing story lines
and heart throbbing love stories and slight differences, one thing that is so
amazing is just how similar their stories really are. In the Notebook a man by the

memory. The story is about an upper class seventeen year old named Allie Hamilton
who is spending her summer in Seabrook, South Carolina with her family. There is a

Wherever anyone goes anyone is vulnerable to terrorism. Terrorism is something
that is a very horrific thing and effects everyone that went through it and the people

sometimes it can even be deadly. In the last of couple of years around 50 terrorist

all over the world react differently, some effects can be, Countries increasing their
security, it can be anything from Airports to the borders and the boats that arrive
on land. Just like when 9/11 happened George W. Bush closed all subways so no
one could travel and that stopped a couple more of attacks from happening.
However, it turned out to be that all the attacks were fake except the twin towers
and the pentagon. Increasing Security has helped a lot of life s and it can have
positive effects on people. Anyone can feel safe at the end of the day knowing that
their country is increasing security so it would be harder to even plan something

provoke Americans from purchasing them. Obesity could be stopped if citizens
chose better drinks in fact , obesity rates could be reduced by 1 to 4 percentage
points if sugary beverages are taxed moderately (Sahadi). By putting a tax on these
beverages Americans will be less likely to buy them. Although the percentage
change is not that high it will prevent many citizens in choosing this unhealthy
lifestyle. A risk that could result from being obese is diabetes. Diabetes is a
common disease in the U.S. today, for the average child born today, there is a 50
/50 chance, if lifestyles do not change, that they will develop Type 2 diabetes or
other physical diseases and conditions that are associated with being overweight (

the right food and beverage choices, so they will be prevented from the high risk of
diabetes. Everyone should be cautious on the amount of soda they consume, one
study, for example, found for every can of soda a person drinks per day, he or she
is 30 percent more likely to become obese increasing the risk of heart disease,
diabetes, and other diseases (Blanding). Soda is a huge leading cause to health
effects. Anytime a human decides to put soda into their bodies they are putting
themselves at risk. Soda contains way too many sugars that are not beneficial to the
human body, these drinks have very little, if any, healthy ingredients in them and now

There are a variety of political and religious concepts throughout the Dune novels
that varies so much through the novels which makes it a complex and cogitative
science fiction series. The Dune novels are popular with many fans and partly this is
due because of its political and religious structures. This essay will be focussing
primarily on the first four Dune novels written by Frank Herbert. In the first novel,
the Qizarate is composed of missionaries and is a religious body that carries Muad

Kwisatz Haderach is the male counterpart of a fully developed Reverend Mother

The purpose of education is to make good human beings with skill and expertise ...
Enlightened human beings can be created by teachers. Said A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
I totally agree with him because teacher matters. Teachers can change someone s
feeling or thinking by the way they teach students. For example, I loving math is
caused by my math teacher when I was in middle school. Teaching is really hard
duty, so not everyone can be a good teacher. The teacher who influenced me is Mrs.
Suzan Pongratz because she is a creative teacher, encouraging students by offering

teacher. She achieved all the conditions that student need. She gave me the
confidence by making me feel and think positively all the time. Her encourage

Mrs. Pongratz is the creative person by thinking in different. Creative is doing the
same thing everyone else do, but in different thoughts and ways. Like Einstein said,
Creativity is seeing what everyone else has seen, and thinking what no one else has

Cash home buyers, however, are always ready to buy property whenever they are
consulted regardless of many factors that many potential buyers consider and they
are easy to find. The moment you engage a cash home buyer, it mostly takes them
about a week to close a home sale.
Cash home buyers do not include third parties in their transactions. They understand
that homeowners part with a portion of their home s value on commissions or fees to
real estate agents and brokers. They deal with property owners directly and finding
them does not require a property owner to consult any third parties. The only time
they would engage a real estate professional when they intend to sell their property to
cash home buyers would be when they require establishing the actual value of their
property. It is not mandatory because one can do the valuation independently through
research.
To establish the value of your home, you should consider the property sales
completed over the past twelve months to identify how much homes are going for.
Remember to take into account the size of your property, the amenities it holds, its
condition, its location, and the price at which it was bought or the cost of its

21. The Importance Of Creativity In Education
Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist after growing up
(Pablo Picasso). Teachers should use creativity to help students find a balance
between different types of thinking. Therefore, creative skills are just as important
as a creative attitude. Schools need to offer children a larger variety of creative
experiences. It s a wonderful way for children to express themselves. Furthermore,
expression is very important because everyone needs a chance to show who they are
and what they feel. Creative opportunities is not only helpful in schools, but it also
paves a way into a creative future. There are many jobs that involve art, music,
writing, and other creative skills. Students need to have more opportunities and
knowledge in creativitybecause it helps students develop skills, allows students to
express themselves, and they will have more job opportunities in a creative field.
The firm educational system we have today is stealing the creative and competitive
side of our students. There are many concepts that should be teachers priority and
they should include it straightaway. According to Linkner, a CEO and tech
entrepreneur, The first concept is to create automatic memorization to teach problem
solving in a creative way (Linkner 7). Achieving an solution or an answer is more
essential for making the right choices. Mistakes should not be something that
students fear to make. We need to explain that mistakes are not bad or wrong (Linker

22. The Reader Movie Omissions
INTRODUCTION In a scene from the 2008 film, The Reader , a female prison
guard that had served during the Nazi occupation, Hanna Schmitz, is tried as a war
criminal in a court set up by the victors of the war. One of the war crimes she is
being charged with is for letting 300 female Jewish prisoners perish in a church that
had caught on fire. Despite Schmitz s defence that it was her duty to guard the
prisoners and unlocking the church doors would have resulted in definite chaos, her
pleas fell on deaf ears and she was successfully convicted. By isolating that particular
event and eliminating the political duress that Schmitz was under at that time, it is
important to understand that she was not the one who started the fire and was
criticised and convicted solely on her inaction to unlock the church doors and let the
prisoners out as she had the keys.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In criminal law, this failure to act is identified as an omission and has been subjected
to much controversy on its imposition of liability. However, before an analysis of
whether or not it is fair to impose liability can take place, it is important to understand
what an omission is, exceptions to the general rule of omissions which will include
situations such as contractual duties, special relationships, voluntary assumption of
care, creation of dangerous situations and statutory duties. Finally, the author will put
forth arguments for criminalising failures to act and arguments against imposing
liability for an omission before concluding why it is that the author feels that the rules

23. ##ry And Metaphors In Roethke s Elegy For Jane
Ariel Haskins Elegy for Jane Two of the most beautiful combinations, to me, are
the use of imagery and metaphors. With the use of these two figures of speech the
reader is able to paint a complete, detail picture in their from the piece they are
reading. In Elegy for Jane , the speaker is standing over the grave of a student,
Jane, of his who fell of a horse to her death. Roethke uses imagery and diction,
among other figures of speech, to help the reader picture the young Jane that he
loved and knew by using nature to make the connection. Roethke goes on
throughout the poem to compare Jane to various types of birds, sceneries, feelings
and aspects of nature by not only explaining her physical attributes but her
personality as well. This poem struck my curiosity immediately. My first thought
was, Wow, this man ha a deep love and admiration for Jane. I couldn t understand
how a teacher was able to understand and care for a student that much. Roethke s
use of detail through diction and imagery paints a vivid picture of Jane, almost as
if she was standing in front of you, making the reader ponder the dynamics of the
relationship between Jane her this teacher. The poem opens with Roethke
describing Jane s exterior in the first lines: I remember the neckcurls, limp and
damp as tendrils; And her quick look, a sidelong pickerel smile; ( 1 2 ) By using the
simile limp and damp as tendrils and the metaphor sidelong pickerel smile, I began to

25. Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo is an animated feature film by Pixar and features the voices of
celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Geoffrey Rush to draw both young and old
viewers. The director, Andrew Stanton, and the animators, Bob Peterson and David
Reynolds, create an awesome experience for the audience to see and hear the colours
and sounds of the ocean. One hundred minutes of adventure introduces viewers to a
range of sea creatures each with an unexpected and loveable personality.
Finding Nemo has an unexpected twist, at the very beginning, when Marlin (Albert
Brooks) and his wife s eggs are attacked by a vicious shark and only Nemo s
remains. This result in a shock to the viewer, leaving them wanting to know and
understand more. The movie quickly jumps forward from the negativity however, to

The characters speech seems to be almost inviting whenever the audience is
introduced to a new character or setting. The language is suitable for children to hear,
with it containing no inappropriate language or crude jokes. All the sea creatures
possessed an Australian accent that captured the heart of Australian s perfectly, even
if the voice actors weren t Australian.
The voice over acting seems to fit perfectly to the personality of each character in
Finding Nemo. A massive standout is Ellen DeGeneres as Dory because she can
perform a range of emotions extremely well. After speculation that she could not
deliver on dramatic scenes, she felt the need to try harder because she knew she
was capable of more. Her first trial reading of heartfelt scenes only needed a few
small adjustments and edits before the final cut. Overall it was an outstanding
performance by Ellen DeGeneres because she was someone who was doubted so

Consumption...
Though it doesn t receive as much attention in terms of media attention and public
discourse as it earlier in the 2000s, the issue of copyrighted music and its illegal
consumption over the internet still continues to be a major issue. With the advent of
the internet, digital music, and mp3 players, one of the drawbacks for many of those
in the music industrywas the subsequent increase in pirated music that occurred. As
illegal torrent sites appeared, such as Napster and Limewire, people were
discovering that they could now download for free what they once paid for. Of
course, as a direct result, music companies and artists both saw a significant
decrease in sales in terms of the physical medium, with CD sales beginning to show
sharp declines. In fact, this had a carryover effects of also closing down many of
the mom and pop record stores that existed, since they did not have the financial
means to withstand a restructuring process. Major chain stores were also not
immune to the decline sales, as some once prominent stores, such as the Virgin
Megastore and the Wall, had to close down. Once Apple Inc. released its iPod and
created the iTunes Store, the music industry was finally beginning to adapt itself to
the digital realm, as Apple began signing agreements with most of the major music
labels to release their songs on a digital platform as well. With songs being available
individually for just $0.99 cents and whole albums able to be purchased, people now

27. The Olympics Of The 1936 Olympic Games
The 1936 Olympic games in Berlin came as a bolt from the blue; the whole world
was caught unaware, as everyone expected the games to be a huge catastrophe.
Despite the fact that Germany was in great amount of debt after world war one, the
Nazis took advantage of the Olympics to promote a new, strong, and united Germany.
But behind closed doors, Germany was establishing racist policies as well as
flourishing its militarism. It s apparent that, Adolf HitlerNazi dictatorship obscured its
discriminatory, militaristic character while hosting the 1936 Olympics; furthermore,
in preparation for the Olympics, the Nazis made elaborate planning to advance the

The International Olympic Committee decision to present Germany the
games was before Germany s major turning point in politics. In 1933 Germany
experienced a change of political leadership; democracy was eradicated, and
totalitarianism took its place. Nazi party leader Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of
Germany and quickly claimed all aspects of German life. At first, Hitler was not
passionate about hosting the Olympics until the propaganda minister convinced
Hitler that the success of German athletes in the games would reveal Germans
(Aryans) dominance to the world. He argued that spectacular Nazi Games would
show to the world that Germans are sports enthusiasts capable of staging a
magnificent athletic festival. Beside visitors would go home to their countries
believing they had nothing to fear from Nazi Germany. Therefore, Hitler emphasized
on recruiting German athletes and extending sports facilities for Olympics
competitions. Ultimately the Nazi party burned the candle at both ends to ensure
successful games. In April 1933, a new racist policy was established: Jewish or part
Jewish and Romani athletes were thoroughly disbarred from German sport facilities
and associations. Numerous regulations and rules were created by the Nazis to shut
out Jews from all aspects of German society. Some of the Jews eliminated from the
Olympic team were in fact

29. Human Form Of Prion Disease
Prion disease, also known as a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE),
was first seen in 1902 within a linguistic group in Papa New Guinea, called the
Fore. This human form of prion disease is called kuru and around the 1950 s, it
proved to be untreatable and always fatal to those infected by it. At its peak, kuru
reached epidemic levels as 200 new cases of kuru were reported annually during the
mid 1950 s, contributing to greatly to its death toll of 3000 people (Goldfarb,
2002). The Fore people were mostly affected by kuru and comprised 80% of kuru
deaths recorded (Goldfarb, 2002). Unlike neighboring tribes, the Fore linguistic
group of Papa New Guinea often conducted a cannibalistic feast of deceased loved
ones for the purpose of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be simply attributed to the fact that adult males seldom participated in the
cannibalizing of the dead. In addition to this, when adult males did participate in the
mortuary feasts, they often consumed the muscle tissues of the deceased and not the
brain, which is the most infectious organ when concerning kuru. Due to the loss of
susceptible genotypes and the decline of cannibalistic practices by the Fore people,
there were less incidences of Kuru and a decline in kuru mortality rate after the 1950
s. However, kuru related mortalities, although minute, did persist past this period due
to the long incubation time of kuru (mean incubation time в‰…12 years). In some
cases, patients weren t afflicted with kuru until 50 years after exposure to the
infection.
The active phase of the kuru disease can be differentiated into three main stages, each
with their own set of unique symptoms: ambulant stage, sedentary stage and terminal
stage. The entirety of the active phase of kuru occurs within 12 months. Before any
of these stages emerge, the patient experiences preliminary symptoms in the
prodromal period such as headaches and joint pain that starts at the knees and ankles
then proceeds to the elbows and wrists (Liberski et al., 2012). The brief prodromal
period precedes the ambulant stage, which is the longest stage (8 months) and ends
when the patient can
30. Ancient Greek Women
Similar to the lives of women in other ancient civilisations, Ancient Greek women s
lack of independence was largely a result of the patriarchal ideology of their society.
Although contemporary evidence suggests that ancient depictions of women lack
some credibility in their assertions, the weight of evidence reveals that while Greek
women were socially and economically secure in marriage, the ideal image valued by
Greek culture, one of humility and domesticity, meant that women exerted little legal,
political and social influence. Despite doubts about their accuracy, ancient evidence
shows that women, in accordance with the bigoted Greek society s idealised view,
enjoyed a degree of responsibility within their household, but had little independence
in the wider community.
While there are many ancient depictions of women, there is a paucity of accurate and

feminist assessment of Ancient Greek women, notes that, Nearly all written sources
that have survived from Classical Greece were composed by men of the upper social
classes, and therefore reflect their viewpoint , demonstrating the unreliability of
ancient sources. Moreover, there is debate about the extent of the marginalisation of
women in Greek society. Although a large proportion of experts agree that women in
Ancient Greece lived in virtual seclusion, others argue that this cannot be confirmed,

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, money laundering is the process by
which one conceals the existence, illegal source, or illegal application of income
and then disguises that income to make it appear legitimate. Money laundering
involves a three step process which includes placement, layering and integration
(Albrecht et al, 2009). Placement is the first step and it includes the launderer
opening up an account at a bank or some other type of financial business to make
deposits with the illegal money. The placement step is often looked at as the most
risk taking step because the launderer does not know the reaction of the bank and

Money Laundering According to Hopton (2009), the Bank Secrecy Act of 1970 was
created in order to prevent money laundering. The act was made to try to discourage
illegal acts such as money laundering from happening and to deter the criminals from
even thinking about committing the crime. Woods (1998) stated that money
laundering was not a criminal offense at the time the Bank Secrecy Act was passed.
The act provides information on the movement of money through financial
institutions in the United States and it monitors the movement of money into and out
of the United States. It requires banks and other financial businesses to help the
government in trying to prevent and detect money laundering. The federal
government law enforcement agencies use the information gathered through the
Bank Secrecy Act to detect criminal activities and regulatory violations. These
businesses are required to keep track of all of their cash transactions of ten thousand
dollars and more and report them to the IRS within forty five days. These transactions
could include anything such as deposits, withdrawals, exchanges, payments, multiple
transactions in one day and any cash deposits over the weekend or holidays (Woods,
1998). They also have to identify individuals who are requesting these large
transactions and keep any records that relate to their transactions.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle utilizes many detail oriented literary elements to develop the
many adventures of the famous fictional British detective Sherlock Holmes and his
partner, John Watson. Long winded description and complex vocabulary are infused
into Doyle s writing to accentuate Holmes s great intelligence. By incorporating such
a heavy, educated tone upon the mysteries, the tales of Sherlock Holmesare expressed
as very complicated stories that challenge readers in comprehension as well as
encourage curiosity through puzzling cases. One of the most important literary
features of Doyle s works is the use of dialogue and conversations held between
characters, whether it be Holmes, Watson, a victim, and so forth. It seems that a key...

Another factor to consider is how Holmes is written to be asking Watson even though
he understands that Watson is not on the same page. This curious occurrence in the
interactions between Holmes and Watson may also elevate the status Holmes
imposes on the text and to the readers.
Not only can the dialogue bring life to the story, but it can tell the story itself, as
seen in many instances in which Holmes has wrapped up another mystery. Most
cases are concluded with a recollection of events and revealing hints that only
Holmes knew of, presented almost conversationally from Holmes to Watson. With
his first person account of the mystery, Doyle uses Holmes to clarify any
remaining confusion or questions that linger in readers minds as the chapter ends.
While it is repetitive after several cases, granting Holmes with such large chunks of
dialogue eliminates the need for boring, lengthy straight forward narration. A good
example of the use of retelling in dialogue in place for narration can be found in
The Red Headed League. A combination of complex writing and sophisticated
vocabulary also follow the genius detectives mysteries and help to represent his
intelligence through Doyle s skillful work. Each story is written with extensive
vocabulary as well as depth, which also alludes/attributes to Holmes himself.
Therefore, Doyle was careful to ensure that the professional nature of Holmes was
also conveyed

Trading Eligible Emissions Units in the Carbon Market
Starting from the Kyoto protocol and culminating in the 2011 Durban agreement,
world leaders have put into motion, a coordinated effort to save the world through
concerted actions by their countries to reduce the carbon emissions. The reason for
this agreement was the perspective that the world will not survive at the rate of the
present emissions. Hence, the World Congress is has no option but to act strongly on
these lines. The Kyoto protocol has extracted promises from the member nations
about the extent to which they will guarantee to reduce carbon emissions by the year

diverse situations in life, while the businessmen are calculating how it will impact
their strategies for the future (Alen, D.S., 2012).
In this combined endeavor to address the problem of global warming, there is now
this effort to invest strongly on the green energy sources from the sun and the wind,

40. Stephanie Foote s Little Women
Louisa May Alcott s Little Women is a realistic coming of age story. Although
considered a novel of realism, critics today are still debating over the theme of
gender roles. One critic, Elizabeth Thomason, praises the novel for challenging
assumptions on gender roles while another critic, Stephanie Foote, criticizes Little
Women for the heavily domestic depiction of womanhood. Little Women focuses on
several characters who possess qualities that stand in stark contrast to characters of
other mid nineteenth century novels. For example, Jo March dreams of being able
to support [her]self and help the girls, illustrating her desire to support the family
although this task was reserved for men (Alcott 278). She displays her eagerness to
be independent... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes the novel tells its readers that women must not...act on negative
emotions (Foote 2). However, it is evident that multiple scenes of the novel
contradict Foote s claim and instead showcase how Alcott challenges assumptions
on gender roles. For instance, Marmee March stresses that it is better to be happy
old maids than unhappy wives (Alcott 171). By advising her daughters that they
should not feel obligated to find husbands, but should seek fulfillment on their
own, Marmee emphasizes that a home can be run successfully without a man
supporting it. Here, it is evident that Marmee displays her frustration towards
society s limited role of women. Unlike Foote s claim, it is clear that Marmee acted
on negative emotions towards the designated roles of women. In addition, Alcott s
stance on gender roles is apparent through Meg March s refusal to perform her
expected gender roles. Meg laments that she is too used up to exert [her]self for
anyone and is tired of being subservient to her husband John Brooke (Alcott 486).
Her attitude clearly discredits Foote because she is capable of displaying her distress
and does not let her gender limit her voice. Although Stephanie Foote asserts that the
novel stressed the restrictions of women, the novel actually does the exact opposite;
Alcott displays that women
41. Barbell Back Squat Essay
Barbell back squats have always been a staple exercise in every bodybuilder,
powerlifter and athlete s workout regimen. Squats not only help build size to your
legs but they also have other added benefits such as improved flexibility and an
increase in testosterone and growth hormone production. There are many different
techniques to help improve your squat such as the width of your stance or the
direction your toes are pointing. But the one technique that seems to be getting the
most attention is whether squatting barefoot is more beneficial in activating more
muscles in the lower limbs versus squatting wearing an athletic shoe. The following
study focuses on the activation of 8 lower limb muscles during a barbell back squat
while barefoot and in an athletic shoe. Researchers of this study hypothesize that the
barefoot condition will produce more muscleactivation in comparison to the athletic
shoe condition.
Participants in this study were healthy men and women ages 18 24. There were
several criterions the participants had to meet before partaking in the study. Each
individual had to successfully barbell back squat their own body weight for 1
repetition. Also participants were constantly observed by strength and conditioning
coaches to ensure proper technique was applied to the barbell back squat. Lastly
participants must have previously ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

this study statistical analysis was performed using PASW
42. Dog Training Report
For centuries throughout history, mankind has used canines as a means of battling
their enemies. It is believed that dogs were first used in combat over 15,000 years
ago, with the first written account of their use in war coming from the ancient
Kingdom of Lydia, or modern day Turkey, around 600 BCE (The Dogs of War,
2012). In more modern times, dogs have been known to hold an essential place in
high stress or combative situations. While they are tremendously protective and agile
beings, they are also extremely intelligent, and have repeatedly proven that they are
reliable in aiding humans in several varieties of dangerous circumstances. Some
qualities of rescue or military canines come naturally. We, as humans, depend on our

While dogs have all of these natural qualities that aid in keeping us from danger, it is
the training that does not come naturally. Training a dogto be on a K 9 unit or a
special operations team requires extensive, hard work, and it normally starts while
the dog is still very young. However, before a dog is chosen to begin the training
process, it needs to display certain personality traits as a puppy to be considered for
the job. Being eager to please, and having the right amount aggressiveness,
excitability, intelligence, and possessiveness are all necessary qualities to have in
order to be chosen for training. When the puppies are only a few weeks old, they
are exposed to loud noises, handled by people and socialized. After going through
basic obedience training, the formal training begins around one year of age; by
this time they are used to being around people and will not be frightened by any
loud sounds they may encounter. They are exposed to several different materials
used to manufacture explosives, and are trained to ignore any distractions and to
focus on finding these scents for a reward. This type of training continues for 2
years before they are ready to be sent out into real life combative situations. One of
the most common breeds to display the desired qualities of a military dog is the
Belgian Malinois, a breed very similar to the German Shepherd, but is smaller and

44. Persuasive Essay On Post Secondary Education
In society today, a college education is often seen as a the next step in a young adult
s life. Whether they actually know what they would like to earn a degree in, they
feel the need to continue their education as almost everyone around them is pursuing
post secondary education of some sort. It is often argued that a college education is
not necessary to get ahead because of the manufacture based workforce that is up and
coming in America, however, there are many benefits to having a post secondary
educationsuch as a higher rate of pay and more job opportunities.
One of the biggest overall benefits of having a college education to some degree
after a high school diploma is the most obvious: the considerably higher pay rate
that is available for those careers that often times require a degree. It s a common
misconception that big amounts of money will just come pouring in after they
walk across the stage with their degree, however, the real benefits start stacking up
you begin to pay off student loans and the are now being employed in a career
within your degree specifications. A study done by Georgetown University proved
that graduates from college earn $1 million more in earnings over their lifetime as
compared to those who only had a high school diploma (Cornerstone). As well as
that, another study done by the Pew Research Center found that in 2012, there was a
HUGE average yearly income gap between high school and college graduates of
around $17,500

The Monkey at My Car Window is a story about a situation that occurred with a
monkey and two businessmen on a woman s journey to the Taj Mahal. This story
teaches us about India s culture, both urban and rural, monkey s roles in Indian
society, and how with a business mindset there is always an opportunity for a
business venture.
There are many clues into how Indian society runs in this story. These cultural clues
come from this story and they come from various aspects. There are cultural clues
from Hinduism mythology and from first hand accounts of Ms. Kralijevic s journey

I have been in a situation where a man approached me at a Cabelas (sporting goods
store) and we were talking about guns. This man said I was a very charismatic
individual and he would like to talk to me about a job opportunity. To make a long
story short, this man was trying to sell me on a pyramid scheme. I told the man I
would have to think his offer over and never called the man back. He tried to contact
me many times, and I ignored his calls and text messages until he finally stopped
perusing the business venture. It was a cowardly way of dealing with the situation,
but it worked.
I would definitely visit the countryside in different countries looking for business. I
believe that in more rural areas, most of the time, businesses care more about the
people they serve. With fewer people to cater to they can focus on their consumers.
Rural areas, to me, seem to have more interpersonal communications and can be more
attentive to their consumer s needs.
In an event like the one told in the story the only way I prepare myself is by
making sure the doors are locked. Otherwise, if you are in an unknown location, it is
kind of hard to prepare for an unknown situation like street vendors pestering you.
And if I was in the situation that the Deputy Mayor of New Delhi was I would have
more than likely done the same thing, hopefully without the tragic ending. When
monkeys attack I would do one of two things, fight the attackers or throw

48. Apple Vs Orange Trees
Handfuls of differences come with caring for apple and orange trees, for both are
unique species that have totally different needs when it comes to growing them.
To start off all different kinds of trees grow better in different climates. The
average apple tree is hardyer and can grow in the colder climate with less humidity.
However, the orange tree needs a relatively warm temperature year round or it will
die because the ground temperature is too cold for it to sustain life. Another issue
related to climate is pests and diseases, which has an ability to hinder a tree s
growth or even kill it. Since the orange trees live in such a warm environment most
of the pest are out of the sun and the diseases are carried off in the breezes there is

In what ways did the Indian Removal act under President Jackson help establish a
new interpretation of democracy and a movement away from revolutionary era
republicanism?
Andrew Jackson: The Era of the Common Man at the Expense of the Other
The essential question of the Jacksonian period in American history should not be
focused on slavery, nor on western migration of native tribes (as important, relevant,
and controversial as these topics are). It is true that his administration did try to hide
and dismiss slavery, and it is also true that in the manner of its execution the policy of
Indian removal was a horror. However, the fundamental question surrounding his
presidency revolves around how the doctrines of democracy replaced the doctrines of
republicanism. Indeed, Jackson had a powerful contribution to American political
history. The Jacksonian Era actually changed the goal of the Founding Fathers to put
more power into the presidency rather than in congress. His commitment to the
federal structure, states rights, and a severely limited central government, all
accounted for in his policy of Indian removal are Jackson s greatest contributions and
resulted in the development of modern democracy in the United States.
The founding fathers envisioned and brought to life a system of checks and balances
to prevent an over concentrated power in a central government. They wanted to
preserve and protect American

Species
Dating back to the 2.3 2.7 mya according to the lecture notes, the Paranthropus
aethiopicus species was one of the earliest known robust forms of the
Australopithecus genus. The Paranthropus aethiopicus species was first founded in
Omo, Ethiopia by Camille Arambourg and Yves Coppens, and because of its black
color, it was nicknamed the Black Skull . With this emerged the fossil find KMN
WT 17000 who, according to Erin Wayman from Smithsonianmag.com, was founded
by paleoanthropologists known as Alan Walker and Richard Leakey (Wayman
2012:1). In 1985, these paleoanthropologists found the KMN WT 17000 Black Skull

The Paranthropus aethiopicus species thus focused most of its chewing on the back
of their strong jaws. In my opinion, I believe this feature gave this species the
ability to grind down and digest a wider variety of species that let s say the
Australopithecus africanus which was not able those same species because it did
not have as strong of a jaw as the Paranthropus aethiopicus. Lastly after viewing the
Paranthropus aethiopicus myself on Humanorigins.si.edu, I was finally able to
make sense of why it was nicknamed the Black Skull . This species basically had
very dark, black spots around its skull. When rotating the image displayed on the
website, I noticed that the species had the most black spots on the front and top of
the skull. I found this fascinating as in my opinion, I felt like it had to do with the
large sagittal crest that I described which would make sense because those black
spots are exactly in the positions where they are known for having strong molars and
premolars. One reason why this fossil and species is significant in understanding
human evolution is the fact that it shares many traits in common with the early Homo
as mentioned by Erin Wayman (Wayman 2012:2). Evidence suggests that due their
independent evolution, the Paranthropus species doesn t really have any side or
branch in the human family tree. This is still refuted today in many

Thomas Moran is known for his oil paintings of the natural world. He captures nature
at the moment in which he sees it; this may, in turn, be serene but also show the
dramatic and violent natures of his momentary surroundings. In the compositions
chosen he illustrates, as the title infers, a vessel caught in the turbulent, tumultuous
sea. As he captured this image, he kept in mind the destructive nature of water also
the constructive nature of water. Water has the ability to enable cultures to thrive and
to barely survive. Water was the main source transportation of goods, ideas and
communication in prehistoric times. In his composition, Moran displays the solid
and life depending aspect of water as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, the flag stands erect and flapping in the wind. On the right side of the
piece, we view the exact magnitude of the storm through the white wash of the violent
waves. Additionally, the sky to the right of the ship s crow s nest is lighter and hints
of a sun trying to break through the lurking darkness. Despite the presence of other
visual elements, what clearly connects is that the ocean, embellished and
predominantly highlighted in the work, was Moran s principal interest. However, the
fact that something so fleeting as surging waves dominates the composition even to
the visual expense and weight of an obviously colossal ship.
The visual expressive elements in Moran s composition are not equal in weight.

effectively illustrate the caliber of the waves on the ship s hull by setting the central

does not make the central mast clearly visible, but rather distorts the image of the

CAS was an important mission during WWII. The synergistic effect of the tactical
German aviation as part of the blitzkrieg was one of the main innovations in war.
However, this was the result of the experimentation and training, much of which

developed ground support capabilities that were important to stop the German
invasion. On the American side, as a result of the performance of the Tactical Air
