THE COMMUNITY EVENT
MICHAEL PHILLIPS

INSTRUCTOR: ADRIANE WHEAT
AUGUST 22 2016
Good evening community, parents, and school board members, I
am Michael Phillips an educator of the DISD school system and
also a member of this community. My goal for being here is to
raise awareness about the up and coming $18 million educational
technology bond that is intended to update the technology
infrastructure of our community and school District. This event
will consist of stations that should spark an interest in the rapid
changes in technology and how it can create a more efficient
school environment and productive community.
AUDIENCE
The programs that will be offered will be technology
integrated for students in elementary, Middle School,
and High school in addition to adult students that wish
to get training in computer literacy , business and
technology education. Courses will consist of the
following : Mathematics, English Language Arts,
Science, Spanish, computer literacy, Technology
Education, Business, and Marketing.

the form of Ipads/Tablets
Station 2 will include information about
Technology and UDL for all Learners
Station 3 21st-century skills acquisition and
employability
Our mission for DISD is to foster and cultivate pride in the community
which promotes the confidence needed for students to achieve excellence
and compete successfully in a dynamic and global society. We will
provide a diverse, rich, and interactive environment by implementing
effective high quality instruction through the use of (UDL) and the
integration of technology. With technology we will actively monitor
student progress, which will enhance the future of our students and
enable them to become life-long learners.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
Believing all students deserve the right to quality
instruction starts with Universal design for learning
(UDL) a framework for educators to use in adjusting
their curriculum and instruction away from a one-size-
fits-all approach of teaching addressing the needs of
different students that may be in the same classroom.
TECHNOLOGY AND UDL FOR ALL LEARNERS
Effective teachers are creative and
resourceful in designing flexible learning
environments that address the variability of
learners using a range of high-tech and low-
tech solutions. Technology makes it easier
to apply UDL principles and customize the
curriculum.

21ST-CENTURY SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPLOYABILITY
As an educator I believe that rigorous academics, 21st century skills
and CTE strategies will benefit every student. I also believe that
CTE gives students multiple opportunities to succeed. All students
should be prepared for college and careers. Integrating 21stcentury
skills and career and technical education into the entire educational

In the 21st century technology plays an enormously influential role in our society. Everywhere you
look there is technology. Technology can be a powerful tool when the goal is helping schools meet
the needs in a diverse student population. Technology also offers educator’s options for tailoring
education to each individual student’s academic strengths and weaknesses, interests and motivations,
and optimal pace of learning. Technology is a tool that allows us both educator and student to access
academic information from multiple sources and is an essential resource for expanding our skills and
talents. Society today demands that teachers and students possess new and expanded technology “life
skills.” In many other school districts, students have already been given district-owned technical
devices an allowed to bring their own devices from home. The end goal is that this allows for “24-7”

  • 1. THE COMMUNITY EVENT MICHAEL PHILLIPS EDU 620 INSTRUCTOR: ADRIANE WHEAT AUGUST 22 2016
  • 2. Good evening community, parents, and school board members, I am Michael Phillips an educator of the DISD school system and also a member of this community. My goal for being here is to raise awareness about the up and coming $18 million educational technology bond that is intended to update the technology infrastructure of our community and school District. This event will consist of stations that should spark an interest in the rapid changes in technology and how it can create a more efficient school environment and productive community. AUDIENCE

The programs that will be offered will be technology integrated for students in elementary, Middle School, and High school in addition to adult students that wish to get training in computer literacy , business and technology education. Courses will consist of the following : Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, Spanish, computer literacy, Technology Education, Business, and Marketing. COURSE PROGRAMS

Our mission for DISD is to foster and cultivate pride in the community which promotes the confidence needed for students to achieve excellence and compete successfully in a dynamic and global society. We will provide a diverse, rich, and interactive environment by implementing effective high quality instruction through the use of (UDL) and the integration of technology. With technology we will actively monitor student progress, which will enhance the future of our students and enable them to become life-long learners. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Believing all students deserve the right to quality instruction starts with Universal design for learning (UDL) a framework for educators to use in adjusting their curriculum and instruction away from a one-size- fits-all approach of teaching addressing the needs of different students that may be in the same classroom.
  • 7. TECHNOLOGY AND UDL FOR ALL LEARNERS Effective teachers are creative and resourceful in designing flexible learning environments that address the variability of learners using a range of high-tech and low- tech solutions.   • 8. 21ST-CENTURY SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPLOYABILITY As an educator I believe that rigorous academics, 21st century skills and CTE strategies will benefit every student. I also believe that CTE gives students multiple opportunities to succeed. All students should be prepared for college and careers. Integrating 21stcentury skills and career and technical education into the entire educational movement can make this a reality.   • 9. TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATION www.emaze.com- In the 21st century technology plays an enormously influential role in our society. Everywhere you look there is technology. Technology can be a powerful tool when the goal is helping schools meet the needs in a diverse student population. Technology also offers educator’s options for tailoring education to each individual student’s academic strengths and weaknesses, interests and motivations, and optimal pace of learning. Technology is a tool that allows us both educator and student to access academic information from multiple sources and is an essential resource for expanding our skills and talents. Society today demands that teachers and students possess new and expanded technology “life skills.” In many other school districts, students have already been given district-owned technical devices an allowed to bring their own devices from home.
