ISTE STANDARDS FOR
TEACHERS AND STUDENTS

ISTE TECHNOLOGY
STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS
ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education. ISTE was formally
known as NETS or National Education Technology Standards. ISTE has said that
there are five performance indicators for teachers who are following ISTE standards.
1) Facilitate and inspire student learning and
creativity.
2) Design and develop digital age learning
experiences and assessments.
3) Model digital age work and learning
4) Promote and model digital citizenship and
responsibility.
5) Engage in professional growth and leadership.
At Auburn University
professors use new
technology and
software to prepare
future educators to
teach Agriscience in
grades K-12.
FACILITATE AND
INSPIRE
Teachers should use their knowledge of subject matter,
teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate
experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and
innovation in both face to face and virtual environments.

DESIGN AND DEVELOP
Teachers should
design, develop, and
evaluate authentic
learning experiences
and assessments
incorporating
contemporary tools and
resources to maximize
content learning in
context and to develop
the knowledge, skills,
and attitudes identified
in the student
standards.

against their classmates to see who can
answer the question correctly in the

MODEL DIGITAL WORK
AND LEARNING
Teachers should be able to demonstrate fluency with technology.
Teachers should also be able to communicate with students and
members of the community using digital tools and resources, as well as
being able to communicate relevant information and ideas effectively
to students and peers using a variety of digital devices.
PROMOTE DIGITAL
CITIZENSHIP AND
RESPONSIBILITY
Teachers must advocate, model, and teach
ethical use of digital information and
technology.
Teachers should also address the learning
needs of a diverse group of students while
providing access to approbate digital age tools
and resources.
Lastly teaches should model digital etiquette
and responsibility with social interactions
when using technology, as well as modeling
futures understanding by engaging with
colleagues and students of other cultures
through digital age media.

Teachers continuously improve their professional practice,
model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school
and professional community by promoting and demonstrating

themselves and others. Students here are presenting a project about the
United Nations Army. Often times ideas and
information for projects such as this are results of the
internet.

INNOVATIVE
DESIGNERStudents use a variety of technologies within a design
process to identify and solve problems by creating new,
useful or imaginative solutions.

one laptops to draw and design in
their yearly “House of Tomorrow”
competition which challenges
students to come up with the most
environmentally friendly and
economically sound house for the
future.

COMPUTATIONAL
THINKERStudents develop and employ strategies for understanding
and solving problems in ways that leverage the power of
technological methods to develop and test solutions.
Microsoft Excel uses algorithms that can do any number of things, such as
calculating the total of a row of numbers. Through this students are able to
learn what algorithms are and how they work as well as come up with some
of their own.

COMMUNICATOR
Students communicate
clearly and express
themselves creatively
for a variety of purposes
using the platforms,
tools, styles, formats
and digital media
appropriate to their
goals.

like Facebook
students are able
to communicate as
someone else
while being
creative with how
they do so.
GLOBAL
COLLABORATORStudents use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and
enrich their learning by collaborating with others and
working effectively in teams locally and globally.
Students are able to use video chat or text translators to communicate
with students from other places all over the world. This is a great first
hand lesson in the different cultures and ways of living.

  • 2. ISTE TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS ISTE stands for International Society for Technology in Education. ISTE was formally known as NETS or National Education Technology Standards. ISTE has said that there are five performance indicators for teachers who are following ISTE standards. 1) Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. 2) Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. 3) Model digital age work and learning 4) Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. 5) Engage in professional growth and leadership.
  • 3. At Auburn University professors use new technology and software to prepare future educators to teach Agriscience in grades K-12. Teachers should also be able to communicate with students and members of the community using digital tools and resources, as well as being able to communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students and peers using a variety of digital devices.
  • 6. PROMOTE DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP AND RESPONSIBILITY Teachers must advocate, model, and teach ethical use of digital information and technology. Teachers should also address the learning needs of a diverse group of students while providing access to approbate digital age tools and resources. Students here are presenting a project about the United Nations Army.   • 12. INNOVATIVE DESIGNERStudents use a variety of technologies within a design process to identify and solve problems by creating new, useful or imaginative solutions.   • 13. COMPUTATIONAL THINKERStudents develop and employ strategies for understanding and solving problems in ways that leverage the power of technological methods to develop and test solutions. Microsoft Excel uses algorithms that can do any number of things, such as calculating the total of a row of numbers.   • 15. GLOBAL COLLABORATORStudents use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally. Students are able to use video chat or text translators to communicate with students from other places all over the world. This is a great first hand lesson in the different cultures and ways of living.
