Creating Responsive Drupal Sites with Zen Grids and the Zen 5 ThemeAcquia
Too many responsive websites fall into the "move the sidebars around" trap and end up looking the same as any other responsive site. By combining the CSS of Zen Grids and the smart markup of the Zen 5 theme, you can create a stellar, unique responsive design for your website with ease.
Zen has always been a popular starting point for building Drupal themes, but the new Zen 5 has been re-written from the ground-up with updated best practices including HTML5, Modernizr integration, Normalize, IE conditional classes, responsive layouts, and, best of all, Sass and Compass integration.
Zen Grids is an all new project, independent from the Zen theme. The Zen Grids system reinvents the flexible, but complicated CSS layout method in old versions of the Zen theme, transforming it into a radically simplified process using the power of Sass. Where traditional grid systems (like 960.gs) often don't scale to match a responsive design's requirements, Zen Grids makes it incredibly easy to create amazing responsive layouts in just a couple lines of code.
Experion Presentation at JavaOne 2011: Memory optimizing Java ME applicationsExperion Technologies
The session "Memory-Optimizing Java ME Applications" was taken by Sreekumar Pillai, CTO, Experion Technologies at the 2011 JavaOne conference held in San Francisco, California.
Enterprise mobile applications often include more data-entry-intensive screens and more screen transitions than regular consumer applications. Also the data in a mobile phone is required to be in sync with the data in a back-end server. Due to the limitation in memory capacity for low-end devices, the application design must be highly optimized to avoid any out-of-memory errors during application usage.
This session closely examines the challenges and offers solutions for memory management issues, based on the experience of implementing a field force automation solution for emerging markets.

Intro to WordPress Child Themes (NERDS Sept 2014)Kelly Dwan
So you've been playing around with WordPress. You feel like you've really gotten the hang it. However, you're starting to run into limitations with how much you can customize your site. The next step toward creating an entirely custom WordPress site is to create a child theme. A child theme is a theme which is based on another theme (the "parent theme"), and can override and/or add to the look and functionality of the parent theme.
This session is for: people who have made an HTML/CSS website, used WordPress, and run into customization limitations

Most widely used WordPress tips and tricks of 2016Reegan
WordPress is a CMS (Content Management System) which is very popular and most widely used in these days. Introduction to the WordPress is almost not necessary as every business is seeking its help to establish their business and brand identity.
WordPress is my favorite computer asset, but it's very vulnerable to attack from the bad clowns ;-) This presentation from WordCamp Atlanta 2012 is my system of handling WordPress security without getting too geeky.
WordCamp Raleigh 2019 - Beginner's Guide to WordpressConvinsys
Everyone has a story to tell; and you think the web is the perfect place to tell it. But how do you start? Welcome to WordPress for Beginners. WordPress powers over 25% of the websites on the global Internet. There’s a reason for that number. It’s SO simple. Spend an hour and you can publish to a global audience of more than 3.5 billion people. And it’s SO complex. You can spend years learning how it works.
So what can we cover in two hours? Enough to get you started & going in the right direction!
Slides from a Presentation made to the WP Melbourne Meetup April 10th 2013 by Warren Denley. Custom Coded Projects - When picking up a project you have many choices to make. Do you go for a premium theme and already builded plugins or will you write parts yourself. I will discuss what impacts custom building a project can have. I will focus on time, cost and speed to help you out with your decision making with future projects.
In the last couple of years, security has become a bigger focus point and it hasn’t been different for WordPress. During this talk, I dive into this a bit more by focusing on our role in making sure that projects are delivered as secure as they can be. This by going over several security issues that were discovered this year and ways how you can prevent yourself.
I have contributed since 2009 to WordPress and related projects. I have done some great things for WordPress like rewriting the image manipulation API and leading GlotPress for a long while. But It also lead to some disagreements which had an impact.
It all started with an idea when it got announced and shared by Kaspars Dambis. He wrote a blog post about it and I really started digging the idea even more. During this talk I will discuss new options Apple TV gives developers like us. Showing the power of the REST API and the XML template format of Apple to build a WooCommerce AppleTV app.
The moment my site got hacked - WordCamp SofiaMarko Heijnen
You always think it will never happen to you but when it does, it’s all hands on deck. My personal site was almost hacked and since then I actively looked at what I could improve. During this talk I will talk what I had before and show all the improvements I made since then. It will be a mixed of using using the existing tools and my own creation in managing my sites.

Most of us started running their first site on shared hosting but over time you want more out of it. After some bad experiences, I decided to move to a VPS and do it myself. In the beginning I made a few mistakes but since then things grow that my sites are now running on 6 servers. During this talk I will discuss how my site has grown to be more complex in the last couple of years and how it looks now. This will include all the mistakes I made.
Being a WordPress developer means that our main programming language is PHP. Which works for building websites but not for running tasks. In this talk I will share my experience using Node.js as a platform to build on. Explaining why I have chosen for Node.js and show you how I used Node.js to build microservices that are supporting my WordPress projects.
You can find many articles in the web that cover how to prevent to get the target of getting hacked. But how do you actually detect that your site was compromised?
It's probably just a matter of time that you get hacked. And a WordPress plugin is never the solution since a plugin should support the site. In this presentation, I'm discussing the basics you can do with WordPress and which software you can use to prevent – and detect! – hacking.
Writing code is easy but writing maintainable code is almost impossible. During this talk I will discuss some of the principles of coding that relates to WordPress but goes beyond that.

The development and future of GlotPressMarko Heijnen
A talk about the history, the current status en future of GlotPress. GlotPress is a collaborative, web-based software translation tool used by WordPress and related projects.
At WordCamp Norway I presented about why Javascript matters when developing for WordPress. The amount of Javascript grows and it's time that developers look more into Javascript.
The focus is around the example I build for WordSesh to show what you can do with Javascript and Node.js
It’s been more then ten years since the first release of WordPress. It was forked from b2 and they already need to deal with checking the code. Thousands of lines of code have been written causing a lot of great features WordPress has now.
In this presentation I talked about the fork of b2 in 2003 and about all the major features what got added in the last ten years. Showing how those features helped out making WordPress what it is today. Running on 21.2% of the web and still building new features.
This all to makes WordPress the best publishing tool that currently exists.
Building a plugin like a pro it’s not only about code, it’s also about how you do that. I talked about the workflow, how WordPress works and how I build plugins. I also discussed some mistakes I made along the way. Doing something in a hurry is never a good thing.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms.
