This document provides an overview and instructions for an informative presentation assignment. It includes a rubric for evaluation that focuses on invention, arrangement, style, memory and delivery. Students will choose a topic of personal interest, develop the key points and evidence to inform the audience, and create an outline and practice techniques like pacing, gestures and minimizing notes to effectively present on the topic. The goal is to design and deliver a 5-10 minute informative presentation to educate others on a self-selected topic.

5. The Assignment

You will deliver a 5-10 minute presentation

The topic should be of personal interest to the presenter

The focus of the presentation focus is to either to inform or educate

6. The Assignment - Invention

You have 5 minutes to brainstorm a topic that is a personal interest that you
would like share with members of the course.

Then over the next 25 minutes; using the informative presentation rubric, on
paper address some of the issues of topic, time, audience, evidence and
explanation

You may use a mind map, the impromptu presentation model, simple outline
or any other organization device to organize your thoughts on paper

7. Assignment - Arrangement

Looking at the draft material you have organized so far; now think about how
you would arrange the material as per the informative presentation rubric
and over the next 15 minutes draft out a simple outline of how you arrange
your presentation

8. The Assignment - Style

As it is a topic of personal interest, there should in the presentation a strong
sense of confidence of expertise

A natural level of enthusiasm or excitement

Which is communicated in a clear and simple language

Using your previous drafts take about 10 minutes and write down some key
terms you will use to convey your main points, think upon if you are
introducing new terms how they will be explained in manner that would allow
you present your excitement or enthusiasm

9. Assignment Memory

Try to keep your notes or prompts to simple terms or key points

Review your drafts - are the key points ideas, words or phrase you can use
that would eliminate the need for notes

Remember mnemonic devices or pictures can ver y useful

10. Assignment - Delivery

Once you have a good draft done; begin to practice as much as possible,
focusing on projection, pace, pausing and gestures

If incorporating gesture's, make sure they feel a natural part of the
presentation and practice a range

Time yourself when practicing

Run through without stopping and restarting in practice as much as possible
