The Alchemist Essays
Crafting an essay on "The Alchemist" poses a unique challenge due to the multifaceted nature of
Paulo Coelho's renowned work. The intricacies lie not only in unraveling the storyline but also in
dissecting the profound philosophical themes embedded within the narrative. The alchemical
journey of Santiago, the protagonist, demands a nuanced exploration that delves into the
symbiotic relationship between personal legend, destiny, and the pursuit of one's dreams.
The challenge further intensifies when attempting to articulate the subtle symbolism that
permeates every page. Coelho's use of alchemy as a metaphor for personal transformation adds a
layer of complexity, requiring a careful dissection of allegorical elements. Interpreting the
spiritual and philosophical underpinnings demands a deep understanding of the mystical and
esoteric aspects that Coelho weaves into the fabric of the novel.
Additionally, constructing an essay on "The Alchemist" necessitates the synthesis of diverse
perspectives, including literary analysis, cultural context, and philosophical exploration. The
work's universal appeal adds another layer of intricacy, as the essayist must navigate the balance
between the particularities of Santiago's journey and the broader implications for readers across
the globe.
In essence, writing an essay on "The Alchemist" requires a delicate dance between literary
analysis and philosophical reflection. It demands not only a thorough comprehension of the
novel's narrative but also an ability to articulate the profound messages that Coelho embeds
within the text. The challenge lies not only in expressing one's thoughts but in capturing the
essence of a work that has resonated with readers worldwide.
For those seeking assistance in navigating the complexities of such essays, it's worth considering

Tax Havens And Its Effects On America
In addition to allowing corporations to store billions of untaxed dollars, tax havens
are also used to support dictators and undemocratic societies. All dictators like
Muammar Gaddafi have had billions of dollars stashed in tax havens all around the
world. Tax havens are also used as the principal route through which laundered money
escapes developing countries. (Palan)
The reason tax havens exist, is for the same reason why they existed 50 years ago; to
attract money and investments from around the world. When multibillion dollar
corporations put billions of dollars in the banking system, it gives the local economy
of that country a little boost. That stored in the banks can now be lent out to people
to buy homes, cars, or even start a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corporations have gone far too long without paying taxes. It s easy to recognize
that the main objective of corporations is to make more profit regardless of how it
s done. This greed brought on by the top companies in the world has cost America
$100 billion a year. If these companies would like to take advantage of the biggest
market in the world, then they should respect the laws put in place for that country.
With that being said, we the people, who buy these products, must make a stand and
demand that these companies operate fairly. We know how much money is being
lost, where it s being stashed, and what countries are helping this happen. As the most
powerful country in the world we must take a lead and implement new international
policies that will make corporate tax evasion something of the past.
Even with all these reasons on why corporate tax evasions are bad, there are still
some arguments saying that the current tax system is fine as it is. These arguments
usually derive from the fear of change. People are scared of the actions that these
companies will take in order to counter act the new law set by the government.
The main argument comes for allowing tax evasion is that corporate tax evasion
makes products cheaper for consumers. While this is a possibility, it also doesn t
make sense. The whole reason corporations evade taxes in the first place, is to make
as much profit as possible. So why would these corporations
Arrival Of A Train At La Ciotat, The Great Train Robbery,...
First reaction paper to the films: Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, The Great Train
Robbery, and Broken Blossoms
The story of Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat is very simple. Honestly, I don t think
there is a story in this film; it seems to me like someone just stopped at the train
station and filmed the train arriving. This film is one very short scene that last for not
more than 5 minutes, and I believe the idea of the filmmaker was to create an
audience s reaction, and to let the audience make up their own story of the movie.
There is no conflict or characterization in this movie, it s only the train arriving to the
station and people getting off the train and leaving or arriving to the train station. I
guess the resolution is very simple, the train has arrived!
There is no acting in this film since there is no characterization; although, the film
is believable because is what we all see happens when the train arrives, people get
off, people get in, and eventually everyone leaves, including the train. In conclusion,
the filmmaker created a sense of surprise on myself because I wasn t expecting a so
short film, yet I have to admit that I liked the fact that I could make up the history of
the movie because the filmmaker provided me with enough material to build my own
story.
In the second movie, The Great Train Robbery , the filmmaker made a story. The
story starts with 3 thieves robbing a train station, then getting on the train, rode on it,
and stopping it to rob

Environmental Factors Of An Environmental Environment
Environmental factors
There are different environmental factors that need to be considered in any
sustainable building design. The main objectives of an environmental friendly design
are to reduce or avoid the depletion of the critical environmental resource including
raw materials, water, and energy (Hawkes, 2013). Furthermore, the construction
designs should be able to prevent environmental degradation negative impact on the
environment that may be due to the infrastructure or the facilities in the building over
a period of time. This are the main critical factors, therefore, to be able to ensure that
there is less environmental impact, the optimization of the site is very important and
this includes the orientation of the site and the energy use as well as the
transportation methods of the materials (McMullan, 2012). These features are very
significant. Another essential element is the optimization of energy use including
reduction of energy load and finally the conservation of water and recycling of used
water.
Human effort
The comfort level is something that is considered very important in the construction
industry. Important comfort levels are usually linked to the working environment and
includes thermal comfort aspects i.e. air temperature, humidity, air velocity and the
radiant temperature. Some of the personal factors that can impact on the human
comfort level i.e. the metabolic heat and the clothing insulation which if not taken
into consideration can impact on
Essay on Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail
Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail
University Of Phoenix

Kim Murphy
Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail My life as a female pioneer taking
the journey down the Oregon Trail was one of hardship and adventure. During the
early 1800s settlers began to explore new territory in the New World looking for new
opportunities. Through the pioneer journeys of Lewis and Clark a route through
America was discovered that would take settlers to new land in the Pacific Northwest
portion of the country. To reach the new land pioneers, such as I, had to travel down
what became known as the Oregon Trail. Through the Oregon Trailthe expansion of
the West began but to get to this new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women were forced to become the slave of an Indian family or the wife of an
Indian brave while the children were adopted by Indian families or made to be
slaves. I and the other women were responsible for ensuring the food supply lasted
on the long journey as well as packing the wagon. We were also responsible for
cooking the meals on the Oregon Trail. We were required to wear long dresses
with long sleeves in oppressive heat and care for all of the needs of the men and
children as well as tend to the sick. There was a major risk to the female pioneer of
losing our husbands or even our children to illness or accidents along the Oregon
Trail. If the food supply ran short the men would hunt for food, use supplies meant
for our new homes, or die of starvation. Illnesses, such as Typhoid and cholera, were
common and would spread through the wagon trains creating more work for us
women (Bledsoe, 1984). The overworked women would in turn become more
vulnerable to becoming sick and perishing. Women who gave birth while on the
Oregon Trail faced vast difficulty and in many cases the female pioneer or the new
born would die. Women pioneers were usually fairly young because women during
this time married as young as 14 but quickly toughened up because of the major
responsibilities we faced on the trail. Despite the many hardships faced by myself
and the other female pioneers, we helped to pave the
Experience On-Campus Community Service In The Ohio
State...
For this assignment, I went to the Ohio State University Hillel Center and was able
to experience on campus religious life. Throughout the experience, there was
definitely a feeling of community and inclusiveness. Even though the congregation
separated into different groups for the actual service, they began the ceremony
together and ended it together. Before the groups separated for their respective
services, everyone congregated for the lighting of the candles in the lobby and after
each service, everyone congregated for kiddush before going to dinner. Despite the
fact that there were two separate services occurring at the same time, Conservative
and Reform, there did not seem to be any disdain towards the other, as was the case...

For example, those leading singing prayers could switch the tune in which the
prayer was sung to. One of the singing prayers had the tune changed in the middle.
The last prayer of the service was sung to the tune of Carmen Ohio. In several of
the clips of Shabbat services that we watched in class, we noticed that men and
women were separated. However, at the Hillel center, there was no separation;
men and women could sit together. However, in the service I went to, there were
more men than women in the congregation, but after reconvening at the end of the
services, it seemed to me that there were more men in overall attendance than
women. In observing clips in class, we also noted that in many cases, women were
dressed very conservatively and some men wore religious garb. All of the men at
the services were dressed on the dressier side of everyday clothing; most wore
yarmulke during the service, and some took it off afterwards, while some left it on. I
m assuming this has to do with differences between different sects of their religion, or
perhaps the way they were raised. The women were also dressed on the dressier
side of everyday clothing, and many were for the most part, modestly dressed. The
people at the Hillel center were also very welcoming of new people who may not
know exactly what is going on. Before and during the service, a man who works at
the center explained what was going on. He explained the lighting of
Neanderthals Video Summary
According to the video, Neanderthals were not the brutish and unintelligent ape like
creatures of popular myth, but a strong, intelligence, and highly adaptive species who
mastered their environment and survived for thousands of years. This is proven
throughout the video through the Neanderthals development of weapons and tools,
how they communicated and played a part in their clan, and how they mastered their
environment to survive for an incredibly long time. One of the most common myths
about Neanderthals is their curiosity of fire, and how they were amazed by it. This
however was proven false throughout the video. The Neanderthals seemed to have
tamed fire, using it to their advantages, like for warmth and for also cooking. The

We originally believed that they only communicated with mere grunts and babbling
of words, but the video has shown that they had their own language to communicate
with their clan, unique and special to them. Nowhere in the video did I see or hear
them talk to each other with only grunts, but they had their own language and used
hand gestures as well when they hunted. The video also mentioned, that every
member of the clan had to play a part. It said that at girl at the age of eleven, had not
been hunting for long. This tells the viewer that the Neanderthals recognized that
everyone will have to contribute to their clan to survive their environment. I also
learned that from the Video, is that the Neanderthals cared for each other. When a
member of the clan, the leader, was killed, all members of the clan contributed into a
ritual for their killed leader. Archeologists have found that a skeleton had animal
bones surrounding it, as well as pollen, showing signs of a burial. This shows me that
the Neanderthals had their own form of communication and had a clan based on
social interaction, making them more intelligent and less brutish than what we
believed them to
Identity And Sense Of Homosexuality
My first inkling that something was different was when I went on the Internet this
morning and ended up consuming video after video, reading articles, comments, and
posts. I have been sitting on the computer for who knows how long now, and it s
clear to me that the majority of the world is homosexual, with it being universally
accepted and widely preferred. Heterosexualitywas a minority and therefore, so was I.
Sure, I ve been aware that people dislike differences and seek similarities, but being
on the receiving end of vitriol, hate and prejudice makes you question your very own
sense of being and individuality. Reading and watching content on the internet was
making me feel horrible about myself. Don t get me wrong, there is a lot of positive

The idea is that self complexity can buffer threats and aid in building resilience and
balance, and this affect can spread across domains when one has better
interconnected domains. For example, someone who sees themselves as a mother,
a lawyer, a wife, a martial artist etc. From what I ve experienced online so far,
heterosexuals are condensed into just that one defining domain which influences the
way others treat them and consequently the way they see themselves, and a lack of
self complexity like that can leave you vulnerable to stressors and ultimately lead to
anxiety and depression. The Social Identity Theory (Tajfel, 1974), the idea that we
learn about the self through our memberships in certain groups, is also a huge factor
in the formation of an identity. Before, when heterosexuality was the majority, I
never gave much thought to my sexuality, it just was what it was. The thing is, that s
still true, it s what it is. But now there seems to be so many connotations and
attributions linked to heterosexuality that I almost wish it was a choice because my
thoughts are mostly made up of confusion and the feelings of unacceptance, fear of
being ostracized, and being seen as Other . Just reading about the way some people
feel about heterosexuality made me feel anxious about the prospect that every single
person in my life has the potential to shun me, maybe even hate me once they
Catholic Intellectual Tradition Research Paper
Faith and reason have been a pillar of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. This is
within the 2000 year old historical conversation that has and continues to encourage
the Catholic community to ask fundamental questions focused on God, society,
humanity, and nature based on faith tradition. Both Newman and Merton were
converted to Catholicism later in the life after years of spiritual wanderings. Newman
later became Cardinal exact opposite Merton Trappist Monk but both shared same
philosophical ideas about Catholic Intellectualism and gaining knowledge. The
converted Newman had promoted how attaining a liberal education was the means
for perfecting the intellect one is capable. He has insisted on the importance of

Cannibalism In The Medusa By Theodore Gericault And...
Artist s within the Romantic period reacted to the brutalities of inhumane
occurrences in the world. Romanticism was an art movement that occurred in the
19th century in which undoubtedly allowed artists to react personally and
emotionally to a specific subject matter. Contrasting to the refined period of
Neoclassicism, Romantics broke it s conformist, logic of the movement. The use of
centring the human figure as the dominant feature embodied the tortuous and ghastly
occurrences of war, depicting terror within their works. Theodore Gericault and
Francisco Goyaboth made sense of their world by expressing what they critically
believed needed to be shown, the horrific act of inhumanity.
The determined, passionate artist Gericault depicted the horrific act of abandonment
of man at sea, the Medusa which occurred in 1819. Departing from the Senegal, one
hundred and forty seven french men and women were left knowingly abandoned on
a makeshift after the wreckage on the coast of Africa. Lacking lifeboats, individuals
built a raft in order to survive whilst their conceited captain boarded a lifeboat to
safety. Upon the Medusa, individuals experienced episodes of immeasurable
starvation, extreme insanity and the beastly act of cannibalism for approximately
thirteen days.
Undoubtedly, the chaotic circumstance of soldiers and settlers were significantly
portrayed by the artist. Neither poetry or painting can ever do justice to the horror
and anguish of the men on the raft.

school schedule. When I read, I can relax and lose myself in another world. I like to
read realistic fiction books. One of my favorites is The Fault in Our Stars. I also
love watching the movies after I read the book, so I can compare the two. For this
reason, the song Wait (m83), which is in the movie of The Fault in Our Stars,
reminds me of some of my favorite books. Some of my other favorite books
include all of John Green s books, the entire Harry Potter series, the entire Hunger
Games series, the first book in the Divergent series, and To Kill a Mockingbird. In
conclusion, despite my busy schedule, I still find time to do the things that I love
to do. My free time is usually spent playing volleyball, working, or reading. I hope to

Analysis Of Downton Abbey, Blood +, And Psycho Pass
Nankurunisa Looking Forward Into Tomorrow
Society might change anytime, anywhere, but how does it change? Do we control
society, or does society dictate use? Many people would say claim that both
aspects are true, because we can change society by trying to improve ourselves, our
communities, and our lifestyles. For example, Western society has been working
towards a more accepting view of homosexuality and women over the past few
decades and how Europe is also improving toward women rights. However,
prejudices that exist in our society are difficult to dislodge, and often remain long
after the general populace has rejected outdated, oppressive views. Three television
shows I have recently seen, Downton Abbey, Blood+, and Psycho pass, have
influenced my life by giving me a chance to reflect on my point of view regarding
society while comparing the past and the future in terms of social norms. Downton
Abbey, created by Julian Fellowes, has reopened my mind and got me to think deeper
about how the Western worldhas changed in such a short time period. Ever since I
started watching the television series two months ago, I have really been taken
aback by the radical differences that only span 100 years or so. For example, up until
the 1960 s or so, women were essentially not allowed to do anything except stay at
home and take care of the children and attend to their husbands. A short time after the
First World War, more women than ever began to criticize the institutions that
Medical Records And Electronic Records
This case study has presented multiple issues concerning converting paper medical
record to electronic medical records. The first concerns are the inefficiencies of the
paper medical records and the steps needed to convert the current records to digital
records. A second concern was that the medical staff would have to change their
work habits to adjust to using the electronic medical records and the training that
would be needed to implement the electronic record software. Another concern
would be the various formats of software programs and the ability to complement
each other. The final concern was the security of the electronic records, misuse of
the information or problems accessing the information due to unforeseen
circumstances. As the case stated paper records are cumbersome, bulky and
difficult to access. As you read through the case it does make one think about how
your own medical records are maintained within the doctor s office. As with my
own medical records there was a time that the doctor was looking back through the
actual sheets of paper in my file looking for information how he treated a certain
medical issue that I had experience years prior, because the same issue reappeared
again. It took an extensive amount of my appointment time to search through only
a few years of my medical records to find the notes on that exact appointment. How
easy would it have been to be able to open the laptop, pull up my medical records and
enter a few words in a
Comparison Of Poverty And Gordon Parks Flavio s Home
Jo Parker writing What is Poverty? and Gordon Parks writing Flavio s Home are
both stories about the dangers of poverty. I feel both authors did a very good job
describing the horrors of living in poverty. Both authors show in their writing the
dangers of poverty from food being scarce, disease, to having no money for health
needs. Even though there were several similarities in the stories, I believe that the
difference life styles of living in povertyshows the main purpose of both stories.
Both authors began their story on how living in a poverty neighborhood consisted
of smelling sewage, urine, feces and garbage that collected in the roads. Parker
describes how Poverty is living in a smell that never leaves (209). Parks also wrote
how he found a young kid named Flavio who lived in a favela outside Rio de
Janeiro living in poverty. Parks wrote how the favela had Garbage and human
excrement clogged the open sewers snaking down the slopes. (214)
Houses are of course located in the middle of all the garbage and sewage in the streets

One difference being the when Parker wrote about poverty, she wrote it in first
person, meaning she was the one who lived the story and poverty. When reading
Parks story, Parks writes about someone else living in poverty and the effects on that
person or people s lives.
Another difference I saw was how poverty ruined the marriage of Parker. Parker
writes how when she was married, that her family had a house but her husband
ended up losing his job. This put a lot of stress on the family where eventually the
husband left (Parker 211). Parks write how the mother and father come home at night
while Flavio is helping with getting supper and the fire ready. Even though the family
lives in a poverty stricken community, the mother and father were still together (Parks
The Between Corporate Strategy And Finance
Week six continued to expand on the concept of NPV, with emphasis on financial
tools such as the sensitivity analysis, break even analysis, simulation, real options
and decision trees. These tools allowed the class further insights into projects
financial status before making the final accept reject decision. Hence, at the end of
the week, students that were able to grasp the concept introduced in week s one
through week five were able to apply important financial tools learned thus far to
analyze projects and explain the link between corporate strategy and finance, these
students were able to recap the relationships between economic rent, market prices,
competitive advantages and the NPV analysis in relation to capital budgeting
activities (Allen, Brealey, Myers, 2013; Overview Objectives , n.d.).
Week seven of the course focused on how managers can successfully develop sets of
tools to help decide what the adequate capital structure of their company should be.
This week was very interesting because the class was able to discuss how financial
markets and related institutions contributed to the overall economy of various
countries. At the end of week seven, the class learned more business theories related
to capital structure and the importance of financial markets and institutions to the
various economies ( Overview Objectives , n.d.).
Week eight marked the final week of the course, and as stated in the syllabus the
class had a final exam, this exam was to assess

barn. During old Major s speech he talks about how the lives of all the animalsare

working. If these animals do not have strength then how will they help the farm?

to be Napoleon. He teaches them to act like humans by the end, which is exactly
what old Major did not want to happen. Most animals wear clothes and walk on

Summary Of The Book By Peter Pan
As Trevor, Hannah and Sean wander around the separate world, Trevor flips
through pages and passages in the book that describes exactly what they are seeing.
This brings up the theory that someone must have stumbled upon this world, escaped
and wrote a book (Journey to the centro of the Earth) about it. The movie depicts an
alternate universe where dinosaurs are still alive, birds that are thought to have been
extinct still wonder, fungus (mushrooms) grow to be larger than houses and water
that sparkles a bright blue. As the trio wander through the center of the Earth they
are speechless as to what they are seeing. Trevor realizes that Max wasn t as crazy as
what everyone thought him to be and Hannah realizes the same about her father.

Journey to the center of the Earth, the story literally takes place in the center of the

A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, published by Sarah Crichton Books in New
York in 2007, tells the haunting story of Ishmael Beah, a child soldier during the
Sierra Leone Civil War. The book begins in January of 1993 in Ishmael s small
village called Mogbwemo, located near Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone. A Long Way
Gone addresses a plethora of geographical issues such as refugees and population
movements, child exploitation, and most of all: war. Each of these issues directly
affects Ishmael, the autobiographer. In his book of memoirs, A Long Way Gone,
Beah uses his horrendous experiences as a young teenager thrown into the dead
heat of civil war to effectively argue that children have a right to their own
childhoods, and that children deserve to have their innocence remain in place until
they are older, not have it be stolen by the terror of war. His potent encounters and
experiences also highlight successfully the undeniable effects that geographical
problems are causing not just in Sierra Leone, but across the entire African
continent. As previously stated briefly, Beah makes a clear main argument that is
always present throughout his memories and stories from the war. To state it
simply, children deserve to be children. Beah argues that youth do not deserve to
have their innocence stolen by war and the pain that inevitably stems from it. In the
book, Beah becomes part of the war and later has to recover from his experiences and
learn to let go, all while he is under the age
Critical Analysis Of Faces Of Japan
Bias and preposterous assumptions about a foreign society are a detriment to the
image of that society. Creating a burden to the future comprehension of said society.
Doctor David C. Unger, former foreign affairs editorial writer for the New York
Times, has stated and debunked said stereotypes in his editorial titled Faces of Japan.
In it, Unger argues that Japanese stereotypes are utterly incorrect and the
presumptions surrounding Japanese culture are outdated. Japan s culture is not static,
Japanese peopleare not spending every living moment in remorse after the events of
WWII. Unger argues this point through the explicit comparison of Japan in 1992 to
Japan in 1945. The goal that Unger is trying to achieve is to compel the audience to...

Its young people are highly educated, fashion conscious and remarkably well
traveled. Unger has depicted a visual of Japan s youth in the minds of the audience.
The audience is focused on the idea that Japanese people live just like any other
society and establishes that there are now more similarities between the reader
and Japanese people. Imagery is an irresistible form of rhetoric to the audience, it
also helps the audience sympathize with Japanese people through shared
experiences: travel, education, fashion, etc... This imagery is effective on the
audience, it paints a picture in the reader s mind and is appealing to a feeling of
commonality. In the minds of some Americans, Japan is a; ...crude caricature,
drawn from half digested sound bites and painted in racist hues. Unger is describing
the biased, and incorrect, ideas that surround Japan. The Japanese are portrayed as
faceless and conformist, their real feelings impenetrable to non Japanese. This
supposedly monolithic society is explained in terms of Japan s militarist traditions,
its consensus style of politics and a shared national anxiety over scarce resources.
These are said to produce people committed to work unceasingly so that Japan can
dominate the world economically, and perhaps militarily too. ...
There are Japanese who think like that, but fewer than there used to be. Meanwhile a
newer, youth oriented leisure culture is emerging everywhere, from the nightclubs of

Freedom Of Speech In Public Nuisance Law
Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without
being lost. Thomas Jefferson is stating that the press cannot be limited or there
would be no freedom. The Saturday press , is a prime example of newspaper with a
loud voice about corruption. Furthermore, Minnesota passed the Public Nuisance
Law or known as the, press gag law . Freedom of speechis constitutionally or right to
say what we please as the people of America.
To begin with, Mr. Near the publisher of The Saturday press, has created a

True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily...
True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes
Upon first look, Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes seems to be a
wild fantasy for Emily Dickinson that he is entertaining. Upon closer examination,
however, the poem reveals his subconscious desire to have sex with his mother and
his frustration about his inability to do so, resulting in the displacement of his sexual
desires onto Dickinson.
From the beginning, Collins is very detailed with his description. In fact he is quite
anal retentive in explaining everything about the encounter. He starts from her
outside clothing, first, her tippet made of tulle (1) and on through her mass of
clothing until finally reaching her corset ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mother of pearl buttons on the back (7 8) of the dress can be seen as an
unconscious Freudian slip which reveals Collin s true sexual feelings toward his
mother. He could have referred to the buttons as any color, but he chooses to use
the term mother of pearl (7). Collins then says that he buttons are so tiny and
numerous that it takes forever before [his] hands can part the fabric (9 10). He
seems to be very methodical in his act of undressing Dickinson. He is the one doing
the undressing, he is the one in charge, and it is he who is in control of every detail.
The simile like a swimmer dividing the water, and slip inside (11 12) might refer to
Collins slipping into his unconscious and thinking about his mother, forgetting about
Dickinson.
The fourth stanza begins with the line You will want to know that she was
standing by an open window in an upstairs bedroom (13 15) This seems to be more
of Collin s anal retentiveness trying to prove that he is in control. Se is motionless,
a little wide eyed (16), which demonstrates her innocence and how helpless she
seems to be in this whole situation. By her lack of participation and his over zealous
control, one would think that it is more of a rape than a sexual encounter. The
phrase looking out at the orchard below (17) seems to be a phallic symbol. Dickinson

Budget Cuts And Intermediate Units
Budget cuts and Intermediate Units
As the nation falls on hard economic times, all aspects of society are affected,
including education. School districts are faced with decreased funding from federal
and state resources and an increase in the cost of salaries and benefits. This is
causing deficits that, if left unchecked can adversely affect the educational process
and ultimately have a negative impact on students and society. School Districts have
increased expectations toward accountability and performance with diminishing
resources. They are expected to do more with less. The Maintenance of Effort
requirement in IDEA 34 CFR В§300.203 puts limits on how a LEA determines ways
to address their budget deficits. Funding formulas ... Show more content on

If a student is in need, this need does not change just because funding has decreased.
The decline in federal monies supporting IDEA regulations, 40% federal funding
when the law was crafted to the current contribution of 16.5%, (Shah, 2014) leave the
state and local governments picking up the deficits to maintain effort. This law can
create barriers if the effort being maintained is fruitless.
Districts are continually looking for ways to overcome these barriers. These
alternative approaches seek to turn the budgetary challenge into an education
improvement opportunity by unlocking resources so they can be used differently and
by re orienting the system around effectiveness and efficiency (Petrilli Roza, 2011)
One such alternative approach is the belief that intervening with a student before
identification of being in need of services can decrease expenditures for special
education services. IDEA 2004 part B regulations permit an LEA to use not more
than 15% of these funds on Early Intervening Services. This allocation comes with
strict guidelines on how and for whom the funds can be spent and these expenditures
must be accurately reported. (Munson, 2014) Districts have begun to implement ways
to decrease referrals through early identification of those students who may have
challenges, addressing the challenges early on and avoiding the costly path of special
A Carbon Based Fuels And Uses Essay
Part A Carbon Based Fuels and Uses A carbon based fuel is any type of fuel thats
energy is derived from the burning of carbon or the oxidation of it. There are two
main types of carbon based fuels, Fossil fuels such as coal and Natural gas or Bio
Fuels e.g Bioethanol. Bio fuels are procured from recent growth of organic matter,
the matter is harvested from crops or the cutting down of fast growing trees and
proceed into biofuels. Fossil fuels are from a prehistoric basis which the organic
matter has been subject to high pressure under the ground which has compressed it
and turned the matter into Coal and cried oil which can be later turned into petrols
and propane via the process of fractional distillation.

Physical Properties
Colour; Coal is a non toxic solid found naturally in ground. It has black colour
because of the carbon in it. Coal is mainly a mix of carbon, water, some hydrogen,
and oxygen. There are many different kinds of coal. As well as the Hydrogen and
Oxygen in coal, it contains some small amounts of nitrogen, sulphur, and some other
minerals. These are called impurities, the quality of the coal is determined by the %
of carbon in the coal the lower percentage means there are more impurities in the coal.

Caring and support the first protective factor in the resiliency wheel stated the most
important way to provide that is how you talk to yourself. I always tell the students
I work with how powerful positive self talk can be and that having positive
thoughts can actually change your frame of mind and attitude. So one would think
that I would follow through with positive self talk, yet I tend to be a very hard on
myself, inner critic. I do though when starting to feel anxious in certain situations
that I will use self talk, which helps me to feel calm. High expectations, the second
protective factor in the wheel of resiliency takes into consideration the importance
of messages we hear from those around us. I really believe in giving positive
messages, that children whose parents set expectations for them, give them the
positive support and care they need that they will meet those set expectations.
Sometimes I really feel we need to be our own cheerleader, especially when we are
facing challenges we may never have encountered before and need the motivation
and inspiration. Meaningful participation/contribution, the third factor in the
resiliency wheel is the ability to help others with their problems. As much as I would
like to be able to be able to donate my time, experience to a good cause I literally do
not have the time in my schedule to do one more thing. I do get great joy from
working with the kids I see daily. I am always interested in their day to day life and

A Business Model Of Maximum Customer Satisfaction
And...
Tom Peters, in his video Radically Reengineering Business (BBC, 1993), got it
right: The world was, indeed, getting crazy in the 1990 s, and it is getting even
crazier. Dealership Service Departments everywhere, including my own, are no
exception. In a short few years, we have gone from a business model of maximum
sales per ticket (sometimes at any cost!) to a model of maximum customer
satisfaction and retention. While manufacturers have been singing the Retention song
for what seems like forever, some dealer groups and franchise owners have not yet
fully bought into this long term type of thinking. Therefore, by necessity, Service
Managers everywhere must rapidly adjust their own plans as their General Managers
flip flop between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is in the development of a new strategy for our Express
department. One of the ways our dealership has managed to maintain over 100%
net customer retention versus the Units in Operation in our marketing area is by
offering a convenient Express Lube department. While Express Lube has always
struggled to make a profit, its very existence, by allowing inexpensive and quick
oil changes to happen for thousands of customers every month, has ensured that our
showroom is provided with hundreds of potential customers every day, with as
many as 5% of these customers coming to our store for the first time. The
efficiency of our Express operation relative to that of our same brand competitors
has, in part, contributed to the continued growth of our new car department where
we now enjoy a nearly two to one lead in retail new vehicle sales in our Zone, and a
market share that the other dealers in our Zone can only dream about.
Nevertheless, amidst the already hyper competitive environment we work in, a
massive change is coming over which we have no control: The switch to a one
year oil change. Starting for the 2016 model year vehicles, all Toyota oil change
intervals will go from 8,000km or six months, to 16,000km or 12 months. Suddenly,
doing a great job at oil changes will no longer suffice

Rock And Roll History
The begins of rock and roll have always been challenged as to when they were first
established. The most common argument is that is first started in Southern United
states, the birth place of many of the first early rock and roll music hits. As the south
always had a huge majority of slaves from Africa and immigrants from Europe,
through the gathering of different influences that created a connection between
African musical traditions with European instrumentation. Immigration of once
slaves to populated urban centers including New York City and Chicago meant that
both the black and white communities were living in close proximity, resulting in
hearing each other s music and even began to follow and impersonate each other s
fashions .

The Elimination Of A Revision Surgery
SPECIFIC AIMS: This project focuses on the elimination of a revision surgery by
aiming at restoration of sagittal balance, appropriate deformity correction and
advanced lumbosacral fixation in a patient with scoliosis. Adult scoliosis with
intended fusion stopping in the lumbar spine is characterized by increased rigidity

An approach to optimize bone fusion rate is to consider FDA approved bioactive
fibroin with adequate temporal control characteristics as screws for implant. [5, 6].
However, only a handful of polymeric bio materials are utilized today because of their
failure to address critical issues like compressive strength for load bearing bone grafts.
Metallic fixation systems are currently the gold standard for fracture fixation but have
problems including stress shielding, palpability and temperature sensitivity. Extensive
research demonstrated that silk microfiber protein composite matrices mimicked the
mechanical features of native bone including matrix stiffness and surface roughness
that enhanced human mesenchymal stem cell differentiation. Administering effective
growth factors to specific sites in the silk scaffold would ensure osteoblast
differentiation and cell growth. Animal models have become the corner stone of
research in the hope to illicit its etiology, and thus redefine the state of the art, current
concepts and future perspective of possible treatments for scoliosis [1 3]. To date,
many hypotheses have been put forward and studied to establish its pathogenesis.
These range from neurologic cause, to genetic mutation, to morphometric alteration
leading to disadvantageous biomechanical imbalances through to a probable
multifactorial spinal developmental disorder. The objective of this study is determine

Renaissance Theater Spain
Historical events in Renaissance Theater Spain were often fused with the creative
writing styles of playwrights to create dramas. These dramas, like the play
Fuenteovejuna, were based on true events, and the historical elements were
incorporated into performances by playwrights. The play, Fuenteovejuna, is a
dramatization of an actual event that happened in 1476, about one hundred years
before the famous playwright, Lope de Vega, was born. Theater during the Spanish
Renaissance time period was one of the most advanced because of the innovative
writing forms of the playwrights. The Spanish playwright, Lope de Vega, played an
important role in the art of theater, and was influenced by the events, culture, and
lifestyles of Renaissance Spain.
The marriage of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile in 1469 joined
Spain together, creating a prosperous empire that became both rich and secluded.
Their marriage placed all of Spain under a single ruler before other countries in
Europe, and created a stable environment for the people. Not long after their
marriage, Ferdinand and Isabella began seeking out non Christians in The
Inquisition. They wanted to cleanse the people of Spain of all the people who were
not Catholic. Many non believers became frightened, and converted to Catholicism
out of fear. This directed Spain into even more seclusion. This seclusion, over time,
would allow Spain to make new advancements in art and culture, and would develop

The Turing Test And The Theory Of Computer System
Can a machine think? Is a long lived question humans have had? If a machine can
think then it must have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine
has human intelligence, then does that mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired
by many humans to know if one day the answers to all these questions could be yes.
In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the Turing Test. This
test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and
1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of
computers being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory,
Turing developed a testing method called the Turing Test. This would answer the
question Can computers think? The Turing Test consist of three subjects. Two of
these subjects are humans and the other is a computersystem. One human is the
questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the
responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is
the computer, and which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the
test is repeated many times. If the computer system is believed to be the human
subject by the questioner, then the computer system is confirmed to have artificial
intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate test
results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain
Romeo And Juliet Fate
The Fate of Romeo and Juliet
William Shakespeare was one of the most famous writers of his era. One of
Shakespeare most famous stories is the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and
Juliet show how fate and the power of choices can affect the person s actions.
People in the Renaissance believed that stars are the way that fate and beliefs could
come true. Also should how fate could come from good to bad choice. Shakespeare
includes stars in Romeo and Juliet in order to demonstrate the choices you make and
by fate to still have a choice to get through the rough times.
The source I used to find more evidence is Elizabethan astrology. Elizabethan
astrology talked about things that happen in the renaissance and how William
Shakespeare began his stories. Stars were used to show the future for them during
that time period. Queen Elizabeth believed that the horoscopes were fate on the night

The strategy used to get customers to its showrooms intended to sell cars

Relational Model s Theory Of Social Life Essay
Introduction Alan Page Fiske catalyzed the advocacy of the relational model s theory
(RMT) in 1991. The theory states that there are four natural ways of interrelating with
other people. The author established the four models in his article structures of social
life. Fiske affirms that the models work together in varying combinations and control
almost all transactions by human beings (Bolender, 2010, p.60). He further asserts
that the models unify ideas on moral judgment, social justice, religious, political
ideology, and social conflict. It also informs the reactions to misfortunes and
transgression. He explains that they are the foundation of human sociality (Bolender,
2010, p.60). The four models of relations as identified by Fiske include market
pricing, equality matching, authority ranking, and communal sharing. The theory
suggests the four models as the first cognitive models which represent, comprehends,
evaluates, and constructs social relationships (Haslam, 2004, p.3). Therefore, the
models do not define the type of relationships that exists between individuals in
principle; the models are not empirically independent but are a contingent matter
regarding the degree of their association as they operate in a culture (Fiske and Fiske,
2007, p.284). The culture adopted by different communities varies according to the
combination of the four models. Fiske (1999) argues that everyone except the person
with mental incapacitation who will confuse the models understands

Abstract:
In order to cope up with the growing problem of traffic congestion several means
and methods have been implemented. For reducing this problem,an efficient method
for traffic monitoring can be implemented by providing the availability of the
parking spaces in advance. Since there exist no such system we intend to develop
one using sensors and RFIDs.In proposed system, we consider car park equipped
with sensors(IR) which checks for the availability of parking slots and updates the
information periodically. This updated information is provided to the user via an
android application. Using this application user gets directed towards the parking slot
by using the shortest path algorithm(Dijikstra s). Also to avoid traffic congestion due
to parking charges, car is associated with a unique RFID tag for the wallet parking.

American Hero Definition
Over time an American hero comes in all different ways. As a society, there are all
kinds of people that have different backgrounds, participate or do things, and we
look at them as an American hero. It can be someone who does something
courageous but doesn t allow fear to stop them from anything even if they are
putting themselves in danger. More than ever before, each of us individually have
our own way of genuinely recognizing who is a herofor us, and what we really think

The Dead James Joyce Analysis
The Dead by James Joyce is a story with many literary elements. With one of those
elements being theme. The theme of this story is the ideology that portrays male
dominance over women. This is something that is continually expressed through the
main character, and his relationship with women. Like other stories in the Dubliners
series, this will result in the main character to have an epiphany and accept the
consequences for his choices.
The protagonist Gabriel is strongly influenced by his interactions with women and
feels that he must validate his masculinity through them. He places an enormous
amount of weight on his shoulders of how they react with him no matter the
relationship. In the opening scene, he has a conversation with Lily, who he has
known since she was a little girl. When he makes the comment about her age and
her being the age to marry, she snaps back at him with a bitter response about men.
This interaction leaves Gabriel unsettled and he continues to dwell on it feeling
uncomfortable and his only reaction is to leave her a tip. Although she wants to
refuse it, he asserts his generosity so that her only choice is to thank him. This
changes the dynamic to where Lily can no longer be offended, but is now indebted to
show him thanks. Not long after the interaction with Lily, Gabriel has an encounter
with Miss Ivors. The conversation between the two upsets him with a feeling of
embarrassment. Because of his insecurity, he feels Miss Ivors had

In this report I will be researching and reporting on the key features of the World
Wide Webs development and analysing the aspects of what made up the World
Wide Web. The main subjects will be the WWW (World Wide Web), HTML5, CSS3
/ CSS box model and JavaScript including document object model. I will be exploring
these subjects core principles, purposes, features, techniques and latest developments
to display and further my knowledge of these subjects and reinforce them with

Milestones in the history of the WWW
The World Wide Webwas created in March 1989 by Tim Berners Lee a British
scientist working at CERN ( The Birth of the Web | CERN ). CERN is an acronym
of the French phrase Conseil EuropГ©en pour la Recherche NuclГ©aire which
translate to the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The World Wide
Web was created to share information between scientist and institutes worldwide. The
World Wide Web is a series of computer networks interconnected by Coaxial cable or
fibre optic cables spanning underground and across the oceans. Tim Berners Lee
crated his first proposal for the World Wide Web in march 1989 see page 8 ( World

1984 Individualism Essay
Totalitarianism, derived from a society which proceeds without cautiousness towards
governmental power, can induce many limitations among citizens and every aspect of
their lives including individualism. In George Orwell s 1984, the artificiality of the
dystopian country influenced the protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith, to try and
deceive the governmentin any way possible. Winston and many others view
individuality as immensely important, but a large challenge to achieve due to the
diminished hope evident in dystopia. Hope is prominent among Winston in his actions
towards the totalitarian government, referred to as Big Brother, throughout the novel.
From the beginning of the novel when readers are introduced to a dismal setting to...

The Thought Police would get him just the same. He had committed...even if he had
never set pen to paper (Orwell 21). It is explained that the Thought Police does not
require any evidence to prove one guilty of thoughtcrime as a mere expression would
allow for punishment. Policing in Oceania is a prime example of how totalitarianism
is a major role in how individualism is frown upon. This limit in self expression
stops people from being hopeful and Winston s diary not only expresses his desire
to be free, but also dehumanizes him as it limits him from speaking his mind. In
addition to the lack of self expression inducing diminished hope for individuality is
the lack of personal freedom and consciousness. Personal freedom and
consciousness may be altered by the artificiality of a nation s ideology and may
lead to lesser hope in a better reality. The totalitarian party uses all of their efforts to
influence their citizens in believing their deceptive lies with many factors including
propaganda Big Brother is Always Watching. Winston s diary states, Freedom is the
freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows
(Orwell 84). As the party accomplished physical control, the final goal was to obtain
psychological control. To not be susceptible to mental manipulation is
Overview of Quality Systems and Costs
Quality Systems and Costs Preventive and corrective actions are very similar
concepts in a quality control system, as both are geared towards ensuring that flaws
or deviations from standard products are fixed such that the company does not pass
lesser quality products to consumers or spent unnecessary sums in fixing problems
after the fact (Quality Progress, 2012). There is an essential difference between
preventive and corrective action, however; the former refers to proactive actions
that take place before problems are encountered actions that prevent flaws/deviations
/etc. while corrective actions are taken after the afct to ensure that an observed error
in a system is not repeated and that the fewest possible amount of output is affected
by the system error these actions correct problems that lead to flaws/deviations/etc
(Quality Progress, 2012). Though this might not appear an especially significant
difference at first glance, it can have profound impact on quality control systems and
perspectives, and is very important to take note of (Quality Progress, 2012). The four
major categories of quality costsare preventive costs, appraisal or inspections costs,
internal failure costs, and external failure costs (Accounting for Management, 2012).
Preventive costs, as might be inferred from the description of preventive actions
given above, are costs that are incurred in the prevention of flaw/deviations/etc n the
output of a given company, while appraisal or inspection

  • 1. The Alchemist Essays Crafting an essay on "The Alchemist" poses a unique challenge due to the multifaceted nature of Paulo Coelho's renowned work. The intricacies lie not only in unraveling the storyline but also in dissecting the profound philosophical themes embedded within the narrative. The alchemical journey of Santiago, the protagonist, demands a nuanced exploration that delves into the symbiotic relationship between personal legend, destiny, and the pursuit of one's dreams. The challenge further intensifies when attempting to articulate the subtle symbolism that permeates every page. Coelho's use of alchemy as a metaphor for personal transformation adds a layer of complexity, requiring a careful dissection of allegorical elements. • 2. Tax Havens And Its Effects On America In addition to allowing corporations to store billions of untaxed dollars, tax havens are also used to support dictators and undemocratic societies. All dictators like Muammar Gaddafi have had billions of dollars stashed in tax havens all around the world. Tax havens are also used as the principal route through which laundered money escapes developing countries. (Palan) The reason tax havens exist, is for the same reason why they existed 50 years ago; to attract money and investments from around the world. When multibillion dollar corporations put billions of dollars in the banking system, it gives the local economy of that country a little boost. That stored in the banks can now be lent out to people to buy homes, cars, or even start a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corporations have gone far too long without paying taxes. It s easy to recognize that the main objective of corporations is to make more profit regardless of how it s done. This greed brought on by the top companies in the world has cost America $100 billion a year. If these companies would like to take advantage of the biggest market in the world, then they should respect the laws put in place for that country. With that being said, we the people, who buy these products, must make a stand and demand that these companies operate fairly. We know how much money is being lost, where it s being stashed, and what countries are helping this happen. As the most powerful country in the world we must take a lead and implement new international policies that will make corporate tax evasion something of the past. Even with all these reasons on why corporate tax evasions are bad, there are still some arguments saying that the current tax system is fine as it is. These arguments usually derive from the fear of change. People are scared of the actions that these companies will take in order to counter act the new law set by the government. The main argument comes for allowing tax evasion is that corporate tax evasion makes products cheaper for consumers. While this is a possibility, it also doesn t make sense. The whole reason corporations evade taxes in the first place, is to make as much profit as possible. So why would these corporations
  • 3. Arrival Of A Train At La Ciotat, The Great Train Robbery,... First reaction paper to the films: Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat, The Great Train Robbery, and Broken Blossoms The story of Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat is very simple. Honestly, I don t think there is a story in this film; it seems to me like someone just stopped at the train station and filmed the train arriving. This film is one very short scene that last for not more than 5 minutes, and I believe the idea of the filmmaker was to create an audience s reaction, and to let the audience make up their own story of the movie. There is no conflict or characterization in this movie, it s only the train arriving to the station and people getting off the train and leaving or arriving to the train station. I guess the resolution is very simple, the train has arrived! There is no acting in this film since there is no characterization; although, the film is believable because is what we all see happens when the train arrives, people get off, people get in, and eventually everyone leaves, including the train. In conclusion, the filmmaker created a sense of surprise on myself because I wasn t expecting a so short film, yet I have to admit that I liked the fact that I could make up the history of the movie because the filmmaker provided me with enough material to build my own story. In the second movie, The Great Train Robbery , the filmmaker made a story. The story starts with 3 thieves robbing a train station, then getting on the train, rode on it, and stopping it to rob

  • 5. Environmental Factors Of An Environmental Environment Environmental factors There are different environmental factors that need to be considered in any sustainable building design. The main objectives of an environmental friendly design are to reduce or avoid the depletion of the critical environmental resource including raw materials, water, and energy (Hawkes, 2013). Furthermore, the construction designs should be able to prevent environmental degradation negative impact on the environment that may be due to the infrastructure or the facilities in the building over a period of time. This are the main critical factors, therefore, to be able to ensure that there is less environmental impact, the optimization of the site is very important and this includes the orientation of the site and the energy use as well as the transportation methods of the materials (McMullan, 2012). These features are very significant. Another essential element is the optimization of energy use including reduction of energy load and finally the conservation of water and recycling of used water. Human effort The comfort level is something that is considered very important in the construction industry. Important comfort levels are usually linked to the working environment and includes thermal comfort aspects i.e. air temperature, humidity, air velocity and the radiant temperature. Some of the personal factors that can impact on the human comfort level i.e. the metabolic heat and the clothing insulation which if not taken into consideration can impact on

Essay on Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail University Of Phoenix HIS/110 August 25, 2012 Kim Murphy Life of the Female Pioneer on the Oregon Trail My life as a female pioneer taking the journey down the Oregon Trail was one of hardship and adventure. During the early 1800s settlers began to explore new territory in the New World looking for new opportunities. Through the pioneer journeys of Lewis and Clark a route through America was discovered that would take settlers to new land in the Pacific Northwest portion of the country. To reach the new land pioneers, such as I, had to travel down what became known as the Oregon Trail. Through the Oregon Trailthe expansion of the West began but to get to this new... Women were forced to become the slave of an Indian family or the wife of an Indian brave while the children were adopted by Indian families or made to be slaves. I and the other women were responsible for ensuring the food supply lasted on the long journey as well as packing the wagon. We were also responsible for cooking the meals on the Oregon Trail. We were required to wear long dresses with long sleeves in oppressive heat and care for all of the needs of the men and children as well as tend to the sick. There was a major risk to the female pioneer of losing our husbands or even our children to illness or accidents along the Oregon Trail. If the food supply ran short the men would hunt for food, use supplies meant for our new homes, or die of starvation. Illnesses, such as Typhoid and cholera, were common and would spread through the wagon trains creating more work for us women (Bledsoe, 1984). The overworked women would in turn become more vulnerable to becoming sick and perishing. Women who gave birth while on the Oregon Trail faced vast difficulty and in many cases the female pioneer or the new born would die. Women pioneers were usually fairly young because women during this time married as young as 14 but quickly toughened up because of the major responsibilities we faced on the trail. Despite the many hardships faced by myself and the other female pioneers, we helped to pave the
  • 7. Experience On-Campus Community Service In The Ohio State... For this assignment, I went to the Ohio State University Hillel Center and was able to experience on campus religious life. Throughout the experience, there was definitely a feeling of community and inclusiveness. Even though the congregation separated into different groups for the actual service, they began the ceremony together and ended it together. Before the groups separated for their respective services, everyone congregated for the lighting of the candles in the lobby and after each service, everyone congregated for kiddush before going to dinner. Despite the fact that there were two separate services occurring at the same time, Conservative and Reform, there did not seem to be any disdain towards the other, as was the case... One of the singing prayers had the tune changed in the middle. The last prayer of the service was sung to the tune of Carmen Ohio. In several of the clips of Shabbat services that we watched in class, we noticed that men and women were separated. However, at the Hillel center, there was no separation; men and women could sit together. However, in the service I went to, there were more men than women in the congregation, but after reconvening at the end of the services, it seemed to me that there were more men in overall attendance than women. In observing clips in class, we also noted that in many cases, women were dressed very conservatively and some men wore religious garb. All of the men at the services were dressed on the dressier side of everyday clothing; most wore yarmulke during the service, and some took it off afterwards, while some left it on. I m assuming this has to do with differences between different sects of their religion, or perhaps the way they were raised. The women were also dressed on the dressier side of everyday clothing, and many were for the most part, modestly dressed. The people at the Hillel center were also very welcoming of new people who may not know exactly what is going on. Before and during the service, a man who works at the center explained what was going on. He explained the lighting of
  • 8. Neanderthals Video Summary According to the video, Neanderthals were not the brutish and unintelligent ape like creatures of popular myth, but a strong, intelligence, and highly adaptive species who mastered their environment and survived for thousands of years. This is proven throughout the video through the Neanderthals development of weapons and tools, how they communicated and played a part in their clan, and how they mastered their environment to survive for an incredibly long time. One of the most common myths about Neanderthals is their curiosity of fire, and how they were amazed by it. This however was proven false throughout the video. The Neanderthals seemed to have tamed fire, using it to their advantages, like for warmth and for also cooking. The Neanderthals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We originally believed that they only communicated with mere grunts and babbling of words, but the video has shown that they had their own language to communicate with their clan, unique and special to them. Nowhere in the video did I see or hear them talk to each other with only grunts, but they had their own language and used hand gestures as well when they hunted. The video also mentioned, that every member of the clan had to play a part. It said that at girl at the age of eleven, had not been hunting for long. This tells the viewer that the Neanderthals recognized that everyone will have to contribute to their clan to survive their environment. I also learned that from the Video, is that the Neanderthals cared for each other. When a member of the clan, the leader, was killed, all members of the clan contributed into a ritual for their killed leader. Archeologists have found that a skeleton had animal bones surrounding it, as well as pollen, showing signs of a burial. This shows me that the Neanderthals had their own form of communication and had a clan based on social interaction, making them more intelligent and less brutish than what we believed them to
  • 9. Identity And Sense Of Homosexuality My first inkling that something was different was when I went on the Internet this morning and ended up consuming video after video, reading articles, comments, and posts. I have been sitting on the computer for who knows how long now, and it s clear to me that the majority of the world is homosexual, with it being universally accepted and widely preferred. Heterosexualitywas a minority and therefore, so was I. Sure, I ve been aware that people dislike differences and seek similarities, but being on the receiving end of vitriol, hate and prejudice makes you question your very own sense of being and individuality. The idea is that self complexity can buffer threats and aid in building resilience and balance, and this affect can spread across domains when one has better interconnected domains. For example, someone who sees themselves as a mother, a lawyer, a wife, a martial artist etc. From what I ve experienced online so far, heterosexuals are condensed into just that one defining domain which influences the way others treat them and consequently the way they see themselves, and a lack of self complexity like that can leave you vulnerable to stressors and ultimately lead to anxiety and depression. The Social Identity Theory (Tajfel, 1974), the idea that we learn about the self through our memberships in certain groups, is also a huge factor in the formation of an identity. Before, when heterosexuality was the majority, I never gave much thought to my sexuality, it just was what it was. The thing is, that s still true, it s what it is. But now there seems to be so many connotations and attributions linked to heterosexuality that I almost wish it was a choice because my thoughts are mostly made up of confusion and the feelings of unacceptance, fear of being ostracized, and being seen as Other . Just reading about the way some people feel about heterosexuality made me feel anxious about the prospect that every single person in my life has the potential to shun me, maybe even hate me once they

  • 11. Cannibalism In The Medusa By Theodore Gericault And... Artist s within the Romantic period reacted to the brutalities of inhumane occurrences in the world. Romanticism was an art movement that occurred in the 19th century in which undoubtedly allowed artists to react personally and emotionally to a specific subject matter. Contrasting to the refined period of Neoclassicism, Romantics broke it s conformist, logic of the movement. The use of centring the human figure as the dominant feature embodied the tortuous and ghastly occurrences of war, depicting terror within their works. Theodore Gericault and Francisco Goyaboth made sense of their world by expressing what they critically believed needed to be shown, the horrific act of inhumanity. The determined, passionate artist Gericault depicted the horrific act of abandonment of man at sea, the Medusa which occurred in 1819. Departing from the Senegal, one hundred and forty seven french men and women were left knowingly abandoned on a makeshift after the wreckage on the coast of Africa. Lacking lifeboats, individuals built a raft in order to survive whilst their conceited captain boarded a lifeboat to safety. Upon the Medusa, individuals experienced episodes of immeasurable starvation, extreme insanity and the beastly act of cannibalism for approximately thirteen days. Undoubtedly, the chaotic circumstance of soldiers and settlers were significantly portrayed by the artist. Neither poetry or painting can ever do justice to the horror and anguish of the men on the raft.

I also love watching the movies after I read the book, so I can compare the two. For this reason, the song Wait (m83), which is in the movie of The Fault in Our Stars, reminds me of some of my favorite books. • 13. Analysis Of Downton Abbey, Blood +, And Psycho Pass Nankurunisa Looking Forward Into Tomorrow Society might change anytime, anywhere, but how does it change? Do we control society, or does society dictate use? Many people would say claim that both aspects are true, because we can change society by trying to improve ourselves, our communities, and our lifestyles. For example, Western society has been working towards a more accepting view of homosexuality and women over the past few decades and how Europe is also improving toward women rights. However, prejudices that exist in our society are difficult to dislodge, and often remain long after the general populace has rejected outdated, oppressive views. Three television shows I have recently seen, Downton Abbey, Blood+, and Psycho pass, have influenced my life by giving me a chance to reflect on my point of view regarding society while comparing the past and the future in terms of social norms. Downton Abbey, created by Julian Fellowes, has reopened my mind and got me to think deeper about how the Western worldhas changed in such a short time period. Ever since I started watching the television series two months ago, I have really been taken aback by the radical differences that only span 100 years or so. For example, up until the 1960 s or so, women were essentially not allowed to do anything except stay at home and take care of the children and attend to their husbands. A short time after the First World War, more women than ever began to criticize the institutions that
  • 14. Medical Records And Electronic Records This case study has presented multiple issues concerning converting paper medical record to electronic medical records. The first concerns are the inefficiencies of the paper medical records and the steps needed to convert the current records to digital records. A second concern was that the medical staff would have to change their work habits to adjust to using the electronic medical records and the training that would be needed to implement the electronic record software. Another concern would be the various formats of software programs and the ability to complement each other. The final concern was the security of the electronic records, misuse of the information or problems accessing the information due to unforeseen circumstances. As the case stated paper records are cumbersome, bulky and difficult to access. As you read through the case it does make one think about how your own medical records are maintained within the doctor s office. As with my own medical records there was a time that the doctor was looking back through the actual sheets of paper in my file looking for information how he treated a certain medical issue that I had experience years prior, because the same issue reappeared again. It took an extensive amount of my appointment time to search through only a few years of my medical records to find the notes on that exact appointment. How easy would it have been to be able to open the laptop, pull up my medical records and enter a few words in a
  • 15. Comparison Of Poverty And Gordon Parks Flavio s Home Jo Parker writing What is Poverty? and Gordon Parks writing Flavio s Home are both stories about the dangers of poverty. I feel both authors did a very good job describing the horrors of living in poverty. Both authors show in their writing the dangers of poverty from food being scarce, disease, to having no money for health needs. Even though there were several similarities in the stories, I believe that the difference life styles of living in povertyshows the main purpose of both stories. Both authors began their story on how living in a poverty neighborhood consisted of smelling sewage, urine, feces and garbage that collected in the roads. Parker describes how Poverty is living in a smell that never leaves (209). Parks also wrote how he found a young kid named Flavio who lived in a favela outside Rio de Janeiro living in poverty. When reading Parks story, Parks writes about someone else living in poverty and the effects on that person or people s lives. Another difference I saw was how poverty ruined the marriage of Parker. Parker writes how when she was married, that her family had a house but her husband ended up losing his job. This put a lot of stress on the family where eventually the husband left (Parker 211). Parks write how the mother and father come home at night while Flavio is helping with getting supper and the fire ready. These tools allowed the class further insights into projects financial status before making the final accept reject decision. Hence, at the end of the week, students that were able to grasp the concept introduced in week s one through week five were able to apply important financial tools learned thus far to analyze projects and explain the link between corporate strategy and finance, these students were able to recap the relationships between economic rent, market prices, competitive advantages and the NPV analysis in relation to capital budgeting activities (Allen, Brealey, Myers, 2013; Overview Objectives , n.d.). • 19. A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah, published by Sarah Crichton Books in New York in 2007, tells the haunting story of Ishmael Beah, a child soldier during the Sierra Leone Civil War. The book begins in January of 1993 in Ishmael s small village called Mogbwemo, located near Mattru Jong, Sierra Leone. A Long Way Gone addresses a plethora of geographical issues such as refugees and population movements, child exploitation, and most of all: war. Each of these issues directly affects Ishmael, the autobiographer. In his book of memoirs, A Long Way Gone, Beah uses his horrendous experiences as a young teenager thrown into the dead heat of civil war to effectively argue that children have a right to their own childhoods, and that children deserve to have their innocence remain in place until they are older, not have it be stolen by the terror of war. His potent encounters and experiences also highlight successfully the undeniable effects that geographical problems are causing not just in Sierra Leone, but across the entire African continent. As previously stated briefly, Beah makes a clear main argument that is always present throughout his memories and stories from the war. To state it simply, children deserve to be children. Beah argues that youth do not deserve to have their innocence stolen by war and the pain that inevitably stems from it. In the book, Beah becomes part of the war and later has to recover from his experiences and learn to let go, all while he is under the age

Creating a burden to the future comprehension of said society. Doctor David C. In it, Unger argues that Japanese stereotypes are utterly incorrect and the presumptions surrounding Japanese culture are outdated. Japan s culture is not static, Japanese peopleare not spending every living moment in remorse after the events of WWII. True Feelings in Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes Upon first look, Billy Collins Taking Off Emily Dickinson s Clothes seems to be a wild fantasy for Emily Dickinson that he is entertaining. Upon closer examination, however, the poem reveals his subconscious desire to have sex with his mother and his frustration about his inability to do so, resulting in the displacement of his sexual desires onto Dickinson. From the beginning, Collins is very detailed with his description. In fact he is quite anal retentive in explaining everything about the encounter. The mother of pearl buttons on the back (7 8) of the dress can be seen as an unconscious Freudian slip which reveals Collin s true sexual feelings toward his mother. He could have referred to the buttons as any color, but he chooses to use the term mother of pearl (7). Collins then says that he buttons are so tiny and numerous that it takes forever before [his] hands can part the fabric (9 10). He seems to be very methodical in his act of undressing Dickinson. He is the one doing the undressing, he is the one in charge, and it is he who is in control of every detail. The simile like a swimmer dividing the water, and slip inside (11 12) might refer to Collins slipping into his unconscious and thinking about his mother, forgetting about Dickinson. The fourth stanza begins with the line You will want to know that she was standing by an open window in an upstairs bedroom (13 15) This seems to be more of Collin s anal retentiveness trying to prove that he is in control. Se is motionless, a little wide eyed (16), which demonstrates her innocence and how helpless she seems to be in this whole situation. By her lack of participation and his over zealous control, one would think that it is more of a rape than a sexual encounter. If a student is in need, this need does not change just because funding has decreased. The decline in federal monies supporting IDEA regulations, 40% federal funding when the law was crafted to the current contribution of 16.5%, (Shah, 2014) leave the state and local governments picking up the deficits to maintain effort. This law can create barriers if the effort being maintained is fruitless. Districts are continually looking for ways to overcome these barriers. These alternative approaches seek to turn the budgetary challenge into an education improvement opportunity by unlocking resources so they can be used differently and by re orienting the system around effectiveness and efficiency (Petrilli Roza, 2011) One such alternative approach is the belief that intervening with a student before identification of being in need of services can decrease expenditures for special education services. IDEA 2004 part B regulations permit an LEA to use not more than 15% of these funds on Early Intervening Services. This allocation comes with strict guidelines on how and for whom the funds can be spent and these expenditures must be accurately reported. There are two main types of carbon based fuels, Fossil fuels such as coal and Natural gas or Bio Fuels e.g Bioethanol. Bio fuels are procured from recent growth of organic matter, the matter is harvested from crops or the cutting down of fast growing trees and proceed into biofuels. Fossil fuels are from a prehistoric basis which the organic matter has been subject to high pressure under the ground which has compressed it and turned the matter into Coal and cried oil which can be later turned into petrols and propane via the process of fractional distillation. Coal; Physical Properties Colour; Coal is a non toxic solid found naturally in ground. It has black colour because of the carbon in it. The play, Fuenteovejuna, is a dramatization of an actual event that happened in 1476, about one hundred years before the famous playwright, Lope de Vega, was born. Theater during the Spanish Renaissance time period was one of the most advanced because of the innovative writing forms of the playwrights. The Spanish playwright, Lope de Vega, played an important role in the art of theater, and was influenced by the events, culture, and lifestyles of Renaissance Spain. The marriage of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castile in 1469 joined Spain together, creating a prosperous empire that became both rich and secluded. Their marriage placed all of Spain under a single ruler before other countries in Europe, and created a stable environment for the people. Not long after their marriage, Ferdinand and Isabella began seeking out non Christians in The Inquisition. They wanted to cleanse the people of Spain of all the people who were not Catholic. Many non believers became frightened, and converted to Catholicism out of fear. This directed Spain into even more seclusion. This seclusion, over time, would allow Spain to make new advancements in art and culture, and would develop into what

If a machine can think then it must have the same intelligence as a human, then right? If a machine has human intelligence, then does that mean it has a mind of its own? It is desired by many humans to know if one day the answers to all these questions could be yes. In hopes of figuring this out, a testing method was created called the Turing Test. This test was created by an English mathematician named Alan Turing in the 1940s and 1950s. Alan Turing was interested in the idea of artificial intelligence, or the theory of computers being able perform tasks like humans. In result of introducing this theory, Turing developed a testing method called the Turing Test. This would answer the question Can computers think? The Turing Test consist of three subjects. Two of these subjects are humans and the other is a computersystem. One human is the questioner who is required to ask the other two subjects a series of questions. By the responses of the other two subjects, the questioner has to determine which subject is the computer, and which one is the human. In order to receive accurate results, the test is repeated many times. If the computer system is believed to be the human subject by the questioner, then the computer system is confirmed to have artificial intelligence. However, questioning must be in a specific style for accurate test results. Computer systems have an advantage over humans in certain

The theory states that there are four natural ways of interrelating with other people. The author established the four models in his article structures of social life. Fiske affirms that the models work together in varying combinations and control almost all transactions by human beings (Bolender, 2010, p.60). He further asserts that the models unify ideas on moral judgment, social justice, religious, political ideology, and social conflict. It also informs the reactions to misfortunes and transgression. He explains that they are the foundation of human sociality (Bolender, 2010, p.60). The four models of relations as identified by Fiske include market pricing, equality matching, authority ranking, and communal sharing. The theory suggests the four models as the first cognitive models which represent, comprehends, evaluates, and constructs social relationships (Haslam, 2004, p.3). Therefore, the models do not define the type of relationships that exists between individuals in principle; the models are not empirically independent but are a contingent matter regarding the degree of their association as they operate in a culture (Fiske and Fiske, 2007, p.284). The culture adopted by different communities varies according to the combination of the four models. Fiske (1999) argues that everyone except the person with mental incapacitation who will confuse the models understands

  • 44. The Dead James Joyce Analysis The Dead by James Joyce is a story with many literary elements. With one of those elements being theme. The theme of this story is the ideology that portrays male dominance over women. This is something that is continually expressed through the main character, and his relationship with women. Like other stories in the Dubliners series, this will result in the main character to have an epiphany and accept the consequences for his choices. The protagonist Gabriel is strongly influenced by his interactions with women and feels that he must validate his masculinity through them. He places an enormous amount of weight on his shoulders of how they react with him no matter the relationship. In the opening scene, he has a conversation with Lily, who he has known since she was a little girl. When he makes the comment about her age and her being the age to marry, she snaps back at him with a bitter response about men. This interaction leaves Gabriel unsettled and he continues to dwell on it feeling uncomfortable and his only reaction is to leave her a tip. Although she wants to refuse it, he asserts his generosity so that her only choice is to thank him. This changes the dynamic to where Lily can no longer be offended, but is now indebted to show him thanks. Not long after the interaction with Lily, Gabriel has an encounter with Miss Ivors. The conversation between the two upsets him with a feeling of embarrassment. Because of his insecurity, he feels Miss Ivors had

  • 48. 1984 Individualism Essay Totalitarianism, derived from a society which proceeds without cautiousness towards governmental power, can induce many limitations among citizens and every aspect of their lives including individualism. In George Orwell s 1984, the artificiality of the dystopian country influenced the protagonist of the novel, Winston Smith, to try and deceive the governmentin any way possible. Winston and many others view individuality as immensely important, but a large challenge to achieve due to the diminished hope evident in dystopia. Hope is prominent among Winston in his actions towards the totalitarian government, referred to as Big Brother, throughout the novel. From the beginning of the novel when readers are introduced to a dismal setting to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Thought Police would get him just the same. He had committed...even if he had never set pen to paper (Orwell 21). It is explained that the Thought Police does not require any evidence to prove one guilty of thoughtcrime as a mere expression would allow for punishment. Policing in Oceania is a prime example of how totalitarianism is a major role in how individualism is frown upon. This limit in self expression stops people from being hopeful and Winston s diary not only expresses his desire to be free, but also dehumanizes him as it limits him from speaking his mind. In addition to the lack of self expression inducing diminished hope for individuality is the lack of personal freedom and consciousness. Personal freedom and consciousness may be altered by the artificiality of a nation s ideology and may lead to lesser hope in a better reality. The totalitarian party uses all of their efforts to influence their citizens in believing their deceptive lies with many factors including propaganda Big Brother is Always Watching. Winston s diary states, Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows (Orwell 84). As the party accomplished physical control, the final goal was to obtain psychological control. To not be susceptible to mental manipulation is

Overview of Quality Systems and Costs Quality Systems and Costs Preventive and corrective actions are very similar concepts in a quality control system, as both are geared towards ensuring that flaws or deviations from standard products are fixed such that the company does not pass lesser quality products to consumers or spent unnecessary sums in fixing problems after the fact (Quality Progress, 2012). There is an essential difference between preventive and corrective action, however; the former refers to proactive actions that take place before problems are encountered actions that prevent flaws/deviations /etc. while corrective actions are taken after the afct to ensure that an observed error in a system is not repeated and that the fewest possible amount of output is affected by the system error these actions correct problems that lead to flaws/deviations/etc (Quality Progress, 2012). Though this might not appear an especially significant difference at first glance, it can have profound impact on quality control systems and perspectives, and is very important to take note of (Quality Progress, 2012). The four major categories of quality costsare preventive costs, appraisal or inspections costs, internal failure costs, and external failure costs (Accounting for Management, 2012). Preventive costs, as might be inferred from the description of preventive actions given above, are costs that are incurred in the prevention of flaw/deviations/etc n the output of a given company, while appraisal or inspection
