 A test is a device or technique used to
measure the performance, skill level or
knowledge of a learner on a specific subject
matter.
 An instrument or systematic procedure by
posing a set of questions in uniform manners.
1. Instructions
It will help students identify their own specific
strengths and weaknesses, making them
more aware of how they can improve
themselves.
On the other hand, it provide teachers with
information that is helpful in providing more
effective instructional guidance for
individual students and the whole class as
well.
2. Guidance
The results are useful in predicting an
individual’s success in a field study and aid
him too in choosing an appropriate course of
study.
Individual Test
 These tests are administered on a one-on
one basis using oral instructions.
 Ex. -Philippine Non-verbal Intelligence Test
(PNIT)
 -Wechsler for Preschool and Primary Scale of
Intelligence (WPPSI)
 They are administered to a group of
individuals.
 Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT)
(classroom test)
 Standard Achievement Test (SAT) ( create by
expertise)
Verbal Test
 These are ordinarily paper and pencil test.
Words are necessary for the examinee to
understand and respond to test items.
 Ex. SRA Verbal, Personality & Interest Test
 Usually they are paper and pencil test but
words are not used in giving meaning or
responding to the test items.
 Such tests are the abstract ones usually
figures, numbers or physical objects.
Proficiency tests are designed to measure
people’s ability in a language whether they
have any training in that language or not.
e.g: IELTS
1. Teacher-Made Test
These are test which measure and assess
student progress in terms of specific
classroom objectives such as objective and
essay tests.
Examples of objective test are those given at
the end of every unit or chapter of the
book.
There are two main types of test.
1. Informal Test (Teacher made Test)
i. Oral Test
ii. Written Test
 Subjective test
Extended (e.g Essay type)
Restricted (e.g Short Question)
 Objective Test
Supply (e.g Filling the blanks)
Selection (e.g MCQ/True /False)
2. Standardized Test
These test that have been carefully
constructed by expert in the light of
accepted objectives.
 Intelligence Test
 Aptitude Test
 Achievement Test
 Attitude Test
 Personality Test
Test which measures general mental ability
without reference to which the learner has
learned in or out of school.
Test which measures the skills and potential of
an individual, which may predict future
success.
 Test which measures the degree to which
individual has mastered certain instructional
objectives or specific learning outcomes
“A position of the body or manner of carrying
oneself” “A state of mind or a feeling,
disposition” “The way someone views
something or tends to behave towards it often
in an evaluating way” “A position of the body
indicating mood and or emotion.”
Personality Test evaluate the thought ,
emotions, attitude and behavioural traits
that comprise personality.
Test which measures certain personality traits
of an individual.
 Psychometric (16PF) –
 Projective Technique Tests (Thematic
Apperception Test, Draw a Person Test, etc.)
There are two basic types of personality tests
 self-report inventories
 Projective tests
 Involve having test-takers read questions and
then rate how well the question or statement
applies to them.

 Another well-known example of a self-report
inventory is the questionnaire developed
by Raymond Cattell to assess individuals
based on his trait theory of personality.
 This test is used to generate personality
profile of the individual and is often used to
evaluate employees and to help people
select a career.
 A projective test is a type of personality
test in which you offer responses to
ambiguous scenes, words, or images.
 The goal of such tests is to uncover the
hidden conflicts or emotions that you
project onto the test with the hope that
these issues can then be addressed
through psychotherapy or other appropriate
treatments.
Example:
One well-known example of a projective test is
the Rorschach Inkblot Test , Thematic
Apperception Test (TAT) and Sentence
Completion test

HISTORY
Stanford Binet testv1965 intelligent this is a
new version of Binet and Simen test. In
1905 two French Psychologist binet and
Simen discovered this intelligence test
after that modified , American Psychologist
Termon with Binet at Stanford university for
current use of intelligence assessment in
1986 it is known as Stanford Binet
Intelligence test form.
 This test can useful for measurement of
general intelligence test. It can useful for
two year to superior adults up 2-45 years.
 It is very effective only to16years for adults
this test result not accurate and
satisfactory.
Educational Test :
Measures results or effects of instruction
Measures intangible aspects of behaviour such
as intelligence, aptitude, interests, ability and
personal-social adjustments.
Measures the numbers of items an individual
can complete at a given time and it also
,measures the level of performance under
time condition.
e.g: MCQ type question
 Its measure level of performance rather than
speed of response series of test item in
graded difficulty from the easiest to the
most difficult one.
 Measures the individual’s ability to answer
more and more difficult items within a given
field in which the items are arranged in
increasing order of difficulty.

Test and types of test in education

  • 4.  A test is a device or technique used to measure the performance, skill level or knowledge of a learner on a specific subject matter.  An instrument or systematic procedure by posing a set of questions in uniform manners.
  • 5. 1. Instructions It will help students identify their own specific strengths and weaknesses, making them more aware of how they can improve themselves. On the other hand, it provide teachers with information that is helpful in providing more effective instructional guidance for individual students and the whole class as well.
  • 6. 2. Guidance The results are useful in predicting an individual’s success in a field study and aid him too in choosing an appropriate course of study.
  • 7. Individual Test  These tests are administered on a one-on one basis using oral instructions.  Ex. -Philippine Non-verbal Intelligence Test (PNIT)  -Wechsler for Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence (WPPSI)
  • 8.  They are administered to a group of individuals.  Metropolitan Achievement Test (MAT) (classroom test)  Standard Achievement Test (SAT) ( create by expertise)
  • 9. Verbal Test  These are ordinarily paper and pencil test. Words are necessary for the examinee to understand and respond to test items.  Ex. SRA Verbal, Personality & Interest Test
  • 10.  Usually they are paper and pencil test but words are not used in giving meaning or responding to the test items.  Such tests are the abstract ones usually figures, numbers or physical objects.

  • 12. Proficiency tests are designed to measure people’s ability in a language whether they have any training in that language or not. e.g: IELTS
  • 13. 1. Teacher-Made Test These are test which measure and assess student progress in terms of specific classroom objectives such as objective and essay tests. Examples of objective test are those given at the end of every unit or chapter of the book.
  • 14. There are two main types of test. 1. Informal Test (Teacher made Test) i. Oral Test ii. Written Test  Subjective test Extended (e.g Essay type) Restricted (e.g Short Question)  Objective Test Supply (e.g Filling the blanks) Selection (e.g MCQ/True /False)
  • 15. 2. Standardized Test These test that have been carefully constructed by expert in the light of accepted objectives.
  • 16.  Intelligence Test  Aptitude Test  Achievement Test  Attitude Test  Personality Test
  • 17. Test which measures general mental ability without reference to which the learner has learned in or out of school.
  • 18. Test which measures the skills and potential of an individual, which may predict future success.
  • 19.  Test which measures the degree to which individual has mastered certain instructional objectives or specific learning outcomes
  • 20. “A position of the body or manner of carrying oneself” “A state of mind or a feeling, disposition” “The way someone views something or tends to behave towards it often in an evaluating way” “A position of the body indicating mood and or emotion.”
  • 21. Personality Test evaluate the thought , emotions, attitude and behavioural traits that comprise personality. Test which measures certain personality traits of an individual.  Psychometric (16PF) –  Projective Technique Tests (Thematic Apperception Test, Draw a Person Test, etc.)

  • 23.  Involve having test-takers read questions and then rate how well the question or statement applies to them.  One of the most common self-report inventories is the

Example:  16 Personality Factor Questionnaire  Another well-known example of a self-report inventory is the questionnaire developed by Raymond Cattell to assess individuals based on his trait theory of personality.  This test is used to generate personality profile of the individual and is often used to evaluate employees and to help people select a career.
  • 25.  A projective test is a type of personality test in which you offer responses to ambiguous scenes, words, or images.  The goal of such tests is to uncover the hidden conflicts or emotions that you project onto the test with the hope that these issues can then be addressed through psychotherapy or other appropriate treatments.
  • 26. Example: One well-known example of a projective test is the Rorschach Inkblot Test , Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) and Sentence Completion test

  • 32. HISTORY Stanford Binet testv1965 intelligent this is a new version of Binet and Simen test. In 1905 two French Psychologist binet and Simen discovered this intelligence test after that modified , American Psychologist Termon with Binet at Stanford university for current use of intelligence assessment in 1986 it is known as Stanford Binet Intelligence test form.
  • 33.  This test can useful for measurement of general intelligence test. It can useful for two year to superior adults up 2-45 years.  It is very effective only to16years for adults this test result not accurate and satisfactory.

  • 35. Educational Test : Measures results or effects of instruction
  • 36. Measures intangible aspects of behaviour such as intelligence, aptitude, interests, ability and personal-social adjustments.
  • 37. Measures the numbers of items an individual can complete at a given time and it also ,measures the level of performance under time condition. e.g: MCQ type question
  • 38.  Its measure level of performance rather than speed of response series of test item in graded difficulty from the easiest to the most difficult one.  Measures the individual’s ability to answer more and more difficult items within a given field in which the items are arranged in increasing order of difficulty.
