Temperature Lab Report
Determining the stature of an individual is a very mathematical process. Height correlates with long
bone length (Alcantara) so bioarchaeologists have devised multiple formulas that help estimate the
stature of an individual within 5 centimeters of the actual height ("Forensic Anthropology"). Before
a bioarchaeologist can use the formula, he or she must measure the length of the long bones. The
osteometric board is used to determine this. The long bone is placed on the board with one side
touching the head of the board. Then, the movable piece is slid until it touches the other side of the
bone. The bioarchaeologist will take the measurement given on the board and plug it into a specific
formula ("Techniques and Tools of the Trade"). If the long bone used is a femur, the thigh bone
("Femur") , there are three formulas that can be used to determine the stature: 2.32 x femur max
length (cm) + 65.53 for male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Genetic differences, environmental problems, and cultural differences are some characteristics that
can be studies based on stature, but nutrition is one of the most common differences studied
(Alcantara). Studying the statures of many individuals in a population can help bioarchaeologists
learn a great deal about people's, especially children's, diets and their deficiencies. Although
genetics play the biggest role in influencing a person's stature, the environment does play a
significant part. The amount of protein, minerals such as calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D in a
child affects their growth. A deficiency any of these essentials can lead to problems later on.
Malnutrition can also stunt a child's growth. By estimating the stature of many individuals in a
population, adults and children alike, a bioarchaeologist can learn about the environment and
lifestyles of a population ("How Much of Human Height Is Genetic and How Much Is Due to

Who Is Ethan Frome A Tragic Hero
The character Ethan Frome in the novella, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton can be classified as an
archetypal tragic hero. Ethan is archetypal, as the issues which confront him are universal. He draws
on thoughts, feelings and concerns that have been part of humanity since the start of mankind. Ethan
is a tragic hero as he shares in common, some of the characteristics required to be so. Two of these
characteristics include that he has a noble stature and that he succumbs to hamartia. While Ethan
Frome may not conform to a strict definition of tragic hero to be found in classical literature, he is
an archetypal tragic hero nonetheless. What is particularly tragic about Ethan Frome, however, is
that in order to be good, he has to be miserable.
One of the defining qualities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethan is neither rich, nor politically powerful. He has neither high status, nor a form of superiority
greater than any other respectable member of his community. However, Ethan Frome initially
possesses a moral loftiness due to his adherence to the values esteemed by his community. Ethan
begins as a modern form of tragic hero by living a life of duty, integrity and conformity. He is a
protagonist who lacks the traditional qualities of a hero and thus, is a modern anti–hero. Thus, Ethan
Frome's noble stature is derived from his initial moral loftiness. Furthermore, some may argue that
Ethan is not a tragic hero because his hamartia is not due to a traditional shortcoming such as hubris.
Ethan does not suffer from excessive pride, but rather is supremely humble. However, Ethan does
suffer a tragic fall. In forsaking the values of his community, and putting his own needs ahead of
others, he is left more trapped and miserable than before. While Ethan's tragic flaw is defying the
code of his community, it nonetheless leads to his downfall leaving him in tragic

The Importance Of Growth In Human Growth
Human growth relies on both genetics and environment to reach an optimal fitness that is
advantageous for productive reproduction. Growth refers to increase in physical size that is
measurable. Stature is one kind of growth that is complex to understand as both human variation as
well as secular trends can affect stature. Secular trends are shifts within a measurable time period
that can affect humans. For example, past the industrial revolution, humans began to increase in size
and also experienced earlier maturation. Specifically, in the article by Pes et al., "A secular trend in
body height, namely its progressive increase over more than a century has also be documented in the
Sardinian population," (Pes et al., 5). The measureable amount of time is not the only note for
change, as several factors can influence growth that include: genetics, economic status, culture,
ecology, nutrition, disease, as well as stress. A few of these factors are discussed in Pes's article.
The subject of nutrition was a factor of body height increase, since the increase in height was,
"...caused by the increase in limb length rather than trunk length, which strengthens further the
suggested influence of environmental and/or nutritional factors," (Pes et al., 5). The article further
explains that short legs are an indication of poor prepubertal nutrition (Pes et al., 5). Another secular
trend that was noted in the article was the effect of disease on Sardinian stature. The stature of

Squirrel Monkeys And Its Impact On The Body Size
Additionally, the attainable range of shoulder mobility relative to over–all body size has an impact
upon the fore–limb reaching that occurs over the course of a diagonal sequence gait. Squirrel
monkeys, which display a more upright limb posture relative to other arboreal quadrupeds, do not
have the ability to achieve extensive shoulder mobility (Schmidt 2005; Whitehead and Larson
1994). Compared to Cercopithecids, including rhesus macaques, however, squirrel monkeys possess
an increasingly mobile proximal humerus joint, for they must create torque and movement around
limited support axes (Nakatsukasa 1994; Schmidt 2005:366). The articular proportions between
species (see Appendix IV), however, do not initially appear to reflect that difference in shoulder
mobility, for the rhesus macaque specimens possess a greater mass / humeral head surface area
compared to the squirrel monkey (see Figure 4). This initial variation reflects Cheng and Scott's
(2000) investigation, which highlighted a larger proximal humerus in terrestrial macaques necessary
for the ability to reach forward, to the extent that Cercopthecids are able, and subsequently move the
body across a flat surface (Cheng and Scott 2000). There remains, however, the fact that the larger
mass / humeral head ratios of the rhesus macaques does not correspond to similarly greater stature
proportions (see Figure 6, Table III). In order to explain that difference, it is useful to examine the
stature / humeral head

China 's Stature As A Political As Well As Economic...
Synopsis: –
China's stature as a political as well as economic hegemon continues to grow well into the second
decade of the 21st century. This has led many to believe that the Chinese Renminbi (which is
denominated in the Yuan, and hence, referred hereafter as such) – may soon eclipse the United
States Dollar (USD) as the World Reserve Currency (WRC).
Such claims of a currency of a large economy eclipsing the USD as the WRC have been rife in the
past. In its heyday, Japan's Yen was thought to have the capacity to overthrow the USD's dominating
position in the 1970's. After that, the German Mark was widely expected to do the same in the
1980's. And later, the Euro too was theorized to be the next WRC.
The major aim of this paper is to give economic and political arguments to show that the Yuan will
similarly not succeed to dethrone USD as the world's most dominant currency.
This essay is divided into several sections. The first section deals with defining what exactly the
author means by 'World Reserve Currency' and 'Dominant Currency' – because without underlying
this, the issue becomes vague and ambiguous. The second section seeks to answer the factors
affecting currency compositions of reserves across the world – and will briefly argue why the USD
(and not the Yuan or any other currency) continues to fit the bill as the perfect reserve currency. It is
followed by section three which asks why the tag of "World Reserve Currency" is so important –
and also answers why the

Lewis Law Building Analysis
The Caroline Wiess Law Building, located in Houston, was constructed in 1924 by William Ward
Watkin. The buildings classical facade captures the viewer's attention through its looming
colonnade, which radiates authority and power. Furthermore, through the stunning facade, the
viewer can deduce the context of the building, and then be left with a lasting impression of its
formal properties. Therefore, the museums stature and classical features create a captivating sight in
this modern city, thus leaving the viewer impressed.
The Law Building is a magnificent ensemble of classical features, this including the towering
colonnade and the use of such a traditional stone. The eggshell hue of the marble, that the facade is
constructed from, becomes illuminated at high noon when the sunlight reflects off the sleek
background. This color combined with the grandeur of building radiates power and prestige. The

Forensic Anthropology Analysis Conducted On The 21 / 11 / 14
Forensic Anthropology Analysis conducted on the 21/11/14
Introduction:
The practical involved examining the unidentified remains found in the back garden of Mr Wills'
house following his suicide. The remains were subject to a skeletal inventory, a brief examination
(in order to assess the condition of the bones), sex estimation and stature estimation. All of these
examinations were conducted with the objective of producing a biological profile for the victim/s in
order to gain a better understanding of the possible identity of the victim and the circumstances
surrounding their death.
Background:
The Metropolitan Police made a subsequent decision to conduct a search of Mr Leonard Wills'
house and garden after his suicide. During the search an oil drum was uncovered, located beneath an
ornamental pond. Inside the oil drum a number of black bags (4) were discovered each
encompassing a skull, pelvis, and femur. The police are working with the rational that each bag
contains the remnants of one person.
Aims:
The practical aims to establish a minimum number of individuals at the crime scene, a biological
profile for each victim and the possible cause of death to these victims. In order to achieve this a
number of anthropometric procedures must take place. Firstly, an examination of which bones were
present and their anatomical position using a Skeletal Recording Form. Following the examination,
a detailed written description of each bone was produced. A broad range of

Relapse Formulae In Anthropology
Personal identification using anthropology deals with estimation of sex, age, stature etc. by studying
skeletal featured of bone. Mostly the sex estimation is finished by looking at the morphological
features of Pelvis– which because of conceptive necessities shows unmistakable characteristic
elements which serve as trademark; or cranium.
Stature is in common language the standing tallness of a living person. With regards to legal human
sciences, it constructs part of the natural profile of a person in the discriminating proof affair.
A scope of techniques have been created to decide stature from human stays to various degrees of
fulfilment and protection. The Fully technique, also called anatomical strategy, requires the nearness
of every single skeletal component that add to stature to recreate the standing body. Numerical
techniques, then again, extrapolate stature from the extent of a solitary bone or body part utilizing
relapse formulae. This is most dependable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is especially the case for relapse strategies, which force a straightforward relationship between
the measure of a particular bone and stature. There are diverse arrangement of formulae for different
gatherings and populace.
Forensic anthropologists use a number of methods to estimate the age at death for skeletal remains.
In general, the methods are based largely upon the morphology of the skeletal elements, that is, the
presence of non–metric traits or specific morphological features on each of the bones of the
skeleton. These characteristics for example also include the degree of fusion of the proximal and
distal epiphyses, fusion of the cranial sutures, dental eruption patterns etc.
Generally the sex estimation is done by examining the morphological features of Pelvis or cranium,
but this is possible only when these parts are recovered.
What about instances when only a hand or leg is provided for

her even more unsightly son. After she escaped the toad, a cockchafer forced her to be his date to a
party, almost perished in the lonely winter months, and again is nearly forced to marry an
unappealing mole. Although after a rainstorm of bad events, a rainbow appears. After Tiny's tragic

Tiny told sung and told stories her. Unfortunately the mouse's neighbor, a blind mole, liked singing
and stories too. After hearing her sing, the mole fell madly in love with the little girl and wanted to
marry her. The narrator said, "She was herself so frail and delicate, that poor little Tiny was nearly
frozen to death." This quote all in itself says Tiny was so small, that the winter almost killed her. If
Tiny were larger, she would have had an easier time regulating her body temperature and the snow
falling would not have affected her as much. Therefore, Tiny would not have been almost dead, and
the mouse and the mole would have never met her.
The final event that was caused by Tiny's small stature was marrying the fairy prince. Although
incompatible for their love of sunshine, the mole wanted to marry Thumbelina, regardless of what
she wanted. With the wedding day approaching quickly, Tiny knew she could not marry the mole,
no matter how wealthy he was. He liked dark, emptiness. Thumbelina loved light, warm sunlight.
She befriended an injured swallow and he took Tiny away before the wedding. Shortly after having
reached a place where the sun always shines, she saw a man, rather a tiny king. The only difference
was that he had wings. Instantly, Tiny was taken by how handsome he was and vice versa. The fairy
prince married Tiny. If Tiny were not as small as she was, the swallow wouldn't have been able to

Disproportionate Dwarfism
Dwarfism is short stature that results from a genetic or medical condition. Dwarfism is generally
defined as an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches (147 centimeters) or less. The average adult height
among people with dwarfism is 4 feet (122 cm). Many different medical conditions cause dwarfism.
In general, the disorders are divided into two broad categories: Disproportionate dwarfism. If body
size is disproportionate, some parts of the body are small, and others are of average size or above–
average size. Disorders causing disproportionate dwarfism inhibit the development of bones.

So the head, trunk and limbs are all small, but they're proportionate to each other. Because these
disorders affect overall growth, many of them result in poor development of one or more body
systems. Growth hormone deficiency is a relatively common cause of proportionate dwarfism. It
occurs when the pituitary gland fails to produce an adequate supply of growth hormone, which is
essential for normal childhood growth. Signs include: Height below the third percentile on standard
pediatric growth charts Growth rate slower than expected for age Delayed or no sexual development
during the teen years When to see a doctor Signs and symptoms of disproportionate dwarfism are

Julius Caesar: Tragic Hero
In the story "Julius Caesar" by William Shakespeare, the story is about how the senators plan and
carry out overthrowing Julius Caesar by killing him and the consequences that happen in return to
the killing and when looking at the book on a deeper reading level, to figure out who the tragic hero
of the story is, either Brutus or Caesar. The characteristics of a tragic hero are a person of high /
noble stature or who someone who acts likes they have stature, the character has a tragic flaw that
begins as a positive characteristic trait, but becomes the downfall, the characters tragic flaw that
leads to a reversal of fortune or downfall, the character has improved self–awareness and self–
knowledge, or the character experiences death, either physically, literally, or professionally. The
characters in "Julius Caesar" who fit the requirements of a tragic hero are Julius Caesar and Brutus.
Brutus and Julius Caesar can be the tragic hero of the story based off what we choose and there are
reasons in the book on why both characters can be the tragic hero of the story, Julius Caesar could
be the tragic hero because he was too prideful and didn't care about what others bellow him said,

Brutus.

To What Extent Is Hamlet A Tragic Hero
The play called Hamlet, Prince of Denmark was written by William Shakespeare in the early 1600's
sometime. This play took place in Denmark, England and was about Hamlet getting revenge over
his father's murder by his uncle. In the play, he found out his father was murdered by his father
coming to him as ghost. While, his mom married his uncle very quickly after his death. A tragic hero
according to Aristotle, is a character in a story that makes decisions that lead to their own
destruction. The character hamlet is a tragic hero for many reasons, which fit that criteria. Hamlet is
a tragic hero because he has tragic flaws, he is a man of noble stature, and his fall was partially his

The Great Chain Of Being In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet
Romeo is of high social stature, making him literate, which allows him to read a servant's letter,
leading him to his tragic fate, which is meeting Juliet. The Great Chain of Being states that people of
a higher social status are more educated, and this is evident when the nurse says "If you be he, sir, I
desire some confidence with / you" (II. iv. 132–133), showing she is not as literate when she mixes
up her words (confident instead of conference) because of her low status. This leads readers to
connect Romeo's ability to read the servants letter to his high stature when the servant asks him,
"Servant. 'God gi' go–den. I pray, sir, can you read?' Romeo. 'Ay, mine own fortune in my misery'

The Significance, Relevance And Organizational Stature
The significance, relevance and organizational stature of stock management will increase in the
future as numerous forces are dictating changes in this direction (Peterson & Silver, 1979). One
force is the trend toward increasing the number of highly specialized and complex products
(Fogarty, Blackstone & Hoffmann, 1991). As a result of this development, more organizations in the
future will make fewer and buy more of their material requirements. Consequently, goods will
represent an increasing percentage of total product costs, and their control will be even more
important than it is today (Hax & Candea, 1979). A second major force is the increasing trend
toward automation is an uninterrupted flow of materials is required for an automated ... Show more

As product variety increases, so do the problems of materials management (Fogarty, Blackstone &
Hoffmann, 1991). Greater product variety increases the complexities of forecasting future demand,
which escalates the inventory investment needed to maintain customer service levels. Expanded
delivery capabilities are established by means of branch warehouses, which also escalate inventory
complexity and investment (Zipkin, 2000). Forecasting demand for inventory control of slow–
moving items poses particular challenges to ensure service level compliance while keeping stock
levels low (Ward, 1978 and Snyder et al., 2012; Peterson & Silver, 1979).
All organizations have difficulty managing their inventory. The usual reason is the inability to
forecast adequately, when items are added to inventory, it is in anticipation of demand. Also, If the
demand is later than expected or never materializes, the result is excessive stock and if the demand
is sooner or stronger than anticipated, the result is inadequate stock. Factors that tend to reduce
inventory are more accurate forecasts, shorter lead times, integrated synchronized operations,
technology upgrades, improved communication networks, and standardization (Brown, 1959; Lee &
Billington, 1992).
The importance of inventory has also pointed out by Herrick (1950) who claimed that it is an
important factor in the determination of net income, and the amount established by the inventory is

Examples Of Ethan Frome As A Tragic Hero
As Aristotle once said, "A tragic hero is not an ordinary man, but a man with outstanding quality and
greatness about him. His own destruction is for a greater cause or principle." The character Ethan
Frome in the novella, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton can be classified as a tragic hero. After being
physically and emotionally isolated in a loveless marriage for seven years, the protagonist, Ethan
Frome, began his descent as a result of an error in judgement. As an effect of this isolation, Ethan
follows his instincts instead of his intellect, leading to a punishment much more harsh than his initial
crime. By making poor choices, Ethan poses a threat to society and causes suffering to family
members, friends and associates. The common characteristics of a tragic hero include the character
beginning with noble stature, enduring his "hamartia" (tragic flaw), and suffering a punishment that
is worse than the crime. The character of Ethan Frome fits into the archetype of a tragic hero.

Like most tragic heroes, the flaw that leads Ethan to his downfall is devastating. However, unlike
most tragic heroes, Ethan's hamartia is his isolation. As a result of his isolation, Ethan allows Mattie
to cloud his judgement, as she convinced him to take her on a suicidal sled–ride. Before doing this,
Ethan does not think about the possible consequences that his actions would have on both himself
and his community. As fate would have it, his deadly sled–ride plan fails, and instead of being dead,
both him and Mattie are left in critical condition. While Ethan is crippled on one side, Mattie was
left paralyzed from the neck down due to the impact. His rash decision to kill both him and Mattie
via sled–ride left him in a worse domestic position than he was in

Gender Perceptions Of Gender And Gender Stereotypes
We often fail to realize how much the minute judgements we make about an individual solely on
appearance, affect how we interact with them. For instance, the simple distinction of sex may
influence how we regard another person, and thus directly influence our manner of speaking, our
body language, even our facial expressions. These judgements are often based off of gender
stereotypes, and gender ideology, two concepts so engrained is society we fail to recognize them
usually (Guest 2014). To further examine the roles such judgements, play in everyday interactions, I
sat in a café downtown for an hour and people–watched, noting who was interacting with whom,
and how different traits such as gender, or even social class influence them. Throughout the
observation, it was fascinating to see how people let these judgements influence them entirely.
Though more interesting may have been the patterns that unfolded. A particularly noticeable trend
was one defined by sex. Women generally interacted with more women, while men interacted with
more men. In these same–sex interactions, women overall seemed more at ease, they maintained
more relaxed postures, displayed a wider range of paralanguage, and even spoke at a louder volume.
Oddly, men were divided when it came to same–sex interactions. If the men were of equal status,
they generally sustained good posture, with shoulders rolled back, though minimal tension. When
speaking they utilized more paralanguage, especially if the two

A Man for All Seasons: More’s Moral Stature Essay
A Man for All Seasons: More's Moral Stature
In some literature, a character's moral stature plays an important role. In the play, A Man for All
Seasons, by Robert Bolt, no other character comes close to More's moral reputation. Thomas
Cromwell and Richard Rich do not compare to More's moral stature because both Rich and
Cromwell lie, while Rich accepts bribes and Cromwell does anything King Henry VIII tells him to
no matter what it is, and they will do whatever it takes to get what they want. More on the other
hand, would not lie no matter what the consequences would be, he would not accept a bribe under
any circumstance and he would never go against his morals.

Norfolk's comment " . . . he was the only judge since Cato who didn't accept bribes!" (Bolt 58)
confirms More's friends know that he is not the type of man that can be bought. Sir Thomas More
will not accept bribes because he is a moral person.
Furthermore, More has a better moral reputation because he would not go against his beliefs no
matter what anyone threatened to do to him. Sir Thomas feels that his beliefs are most important and
need to come first. More resigns due to his beliefs, " . . . If the Bishops in Convocation submitted
this morning, I'll take it off" (Bolt 48). Also, More tells Cromwell that he is going to follow his
conscience even thought he knows that he is going to be killed for it. More states this when he says,
"And when we stand before God, and you are sent to Paradise for according to your conscience, and
I am damned for not doing according to mine" (Bolt 78) This shows that he is putting his conscience
and beliefs above all. He also believes in staying true to his conscience, " . . . yet God exists. In
matters of conscience, the loyal subject is more bounden to be loyal to his conscience than to any
other thing." (Bolt 92) This is More's way of saying that he will be true to his conscience to the
bitter end. More will not change his mind and go against his principles and he will not be

Diversity: What Does It Look Like At Jackson State University
Diversity, what does it look like at Jackson State University (JSU), a historically black university,
located in Jackson, MS? Administrators in higher education are charged with the responsibility of
preparing students to be civil minded in a society that is changing rapidly as it relates to the
inclusion of others. With such intensity to incorporate increased changes and differences, there is a
need to collectively understand the full scope of differences among students.
For two days, I observed the first ten individuals entering the Jones–Sampson building located on
the JSU campus. Observing these individuals allowed me the opportunity to explore how diversity is
perceived from a small sample of the campus. I believe, a college campus is the perfect setting to
view the hop topic called diversity. The population at JSU includes people from various countries,
social economic backgrounds, class, gender, occupations, and sexual–orientation. According to the
Webster dictionary, diversity entails the quality or state of having different forms, types, and ideas

Tragic Heroism in Shakespeare's Antony And Cleopatra Essay
In the tragedy "Antony and Cleopatra", Shakespeare presents our protagonist Mark Antony as a
tragic hero. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language,
staging techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature who
has a tragic flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall that is
partially their fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer exceeds the
"crime" but the tragic hero gains some sort of self–awareness.
Before the audience meets Antony, Shakespeare presents us with two soldiers discussing Antony's
current debauched life. This is dramatically effective staging because they are acting ... Show more

Another soldier calls him "the god of Jupiter" which elevates Antony's status to that of a great
leader, because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars, the
god of war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar recalls
Antony's excellent soldiership and "virtus" qualities. "Virtus" was the Roman ideal of male force
and energy: military prowess coupled with devotion to one's honour and fame. Antony had to
"drink/the stale of horses" and eat "strange flesh" and "the bark of trees" in order to stay alive and he
was "borne so like a soldier that thy cheek...lanked not." These striking images paint an
unfathomable scene of heroic endurance which the audience respects and admires.
The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar's home between Caesar and Lepidus, who
were the other two thirds of the "triple pillar of the world" – the triumvirate. The triumvirate were a
powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius
Caesar. During this conversation, they discuss Antony's debauched life and his former greatness in
Caesar's home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that Antony
is "a man who is abstract of all faults" and someone who would "give a kingdom for mirth." This
shows us how far he has fallen in Caesar's eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine he
would be pacing as he ranted about Antony

In forensic contexts, there are numerous determining factors that aid accurate identification of
skeletal remains of unknown individuals. Most notable are estimations of age, sex, ancestry and
stature. While each area contains extensive research, due to poor bone condition or incomplete
human skeletal remains following disaster or crime, accurate stature estimation is becoming
increasingly important in forensic anthropology (Macaluso 2015, p. 239; İşcan 2005). Moreover,
due to significant variation in stature across different populations, it has been suggested that more
accurate techniques for estimating stature across various populations are needed (İşcan 2005, p.

Winston Churchill : A Man Of Large Stature
"You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in
spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no
survival" (Churchill). Winston Churchill was a man of large stature in the twentieth century.
Churchill was a political man for the entirety of his life. He never had much of a stable career as a
politician. He was antagonistic, careless of the etiquette of party politics, and did little in the way of
popular thinking. Churchill, as big a man as any, had humble beginnings. Churchill was born to
parents Lord Randolph Churchill and Jennie Churchill on November 30, 1874. While his family was
well off, they were considerably low on the political totem pole. Lord Randolph had much success
in his career until he reached a dispute with the prime minister on the issue of spending, in which he
held a minority and he ultimately resigned. At the same time, he was being affected by a mysterious
illness, which no one had nor has properly diagnosed. This illness left Lord Randolph unstable, and
Churchill was left to learn from his father's mistakes, or burn for the consequences of foolish
ignorance. In Churchill's childhood, he had the unfortunate weight of a rather unsupportive father
and mother. When the Churchill family was forced to move to Ireland, Churchill was blessed with a
figure who, arguably, saved him from the dangerous sorrow that could easily become a child not

Mexican–American school in Cotulla, Texas. This experience had an enormous impact on Johnson
and this would influence his political career. The school did not provide meals for the students, they
had no playground equipment, so he purchased sporting equipment and required the teachers to
encourage games on the playgrounds. He also expected much from his students, he required them to
work hard and to learn to speak English and created a debate program to practice their skills. He
eventually graduated and became a high school teacher in Houston where his students excelled in
debate. He would later push his staff like he pushed his students to work long and hard. Johnson's

Character Analysis Of Willy Loman
In order to further enforce the truth about the reality of the American dream, Miller describes Willy
Loman's character as someone who clings to the idea that America will provide its promise of riches
and contentment applies to those who are both well–liked, hardworking individuals. Willy Loman
believes that the pinnacle of the American dream has a highly developed and vast social network.
He perceives it as a sign of a successful businessman and often reflects this belief to his family.
According to Miller, Loman marvels at how much opportunity America appears to present socially
and he thrives on the benefits this falsified dream can do for his family. Willy states, "the wonder of
this country, that a man can end with diamonds here [in America] on the basis of being liked!" (259).
Here the author sets up Willy's understanding of social standards. It establishes Willy Loman's
ideology of the American dream, which currently consists of social stature. Since Loman sees social
stature as a powerful tool in success, he yearns for it in his own life, and more importantly his
family's lives as well. Willy admits to this belief when he gets fired from his job. Here, Willy states,
"I guess I always felt that if a man was impressive, and well liked, that nothing–"(265). Willy
presents himself as a character who believes in America's dream of achieving high social stature
based on being well–liked. Miller makes it a point to emphasize this ideology to establish it as a trait

Abstract
Bone lengths can be used to provide stature estimations in case of unidentified skeletal remains, an
important tool in forensic and bioarchaelogical cases. Where the bones are broken or fragmented,
regression equations can be used to estimate total bone length from its fragments, which in turn can
be used to estimate stature. The aim of this study was to test 2 new measurements of the femoral

The points of reference chose on the femur are the minimum transverse femoral shaft diameter
(TRD) and the minimum anterior–posterior diameter (APD) of the femoral shaft. The samples being
used are that of an archaeological population recovered from a medieval cemetery in Poulton,
Cheshire. The aim is to use linear regression analysis to test the assumption that there is a significant
correlation between these measurements and the maximum femoral length. A further aim is to
produce regression equations that can be used on other skeletal remains from the Poulton collection
for estimating maximum femur length.
2. Materials and Methods
2.1 Samples
The samples used in this study were obtained from the Poulton collection housed at Liverpool John
Morres University. Due to the small size of the collection at present and the poor condition of some
of the bones, a total number of 18 left sided femora were selected for use in the study. These femora
were chosen on the basis of completeness and measurability. All the samples were obtained from
adults skeletal remains and the number of male and females femora was 10 and 8 respectively.
2.2 Measurements
The following 3 measurements were taken on each of the 18 samples:
i. Maximum length of the femur (MAXL) ii. Minimum anterior–posterior femoral shaft diameter

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children implies
it is unacceptable to be short. "Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and
say they have a disorder, you're starting down a slippery slope" (Bailey). It is dangerous to state
people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more
will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have
disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller
than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will
increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. "There are many 'formulas' people
have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one
time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best" (Steele 1). If

Willy Tragic Hero
In the play, Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, the main character Willy Loman has created a lot
of controversy as to whether he is in fact a tragic hero. In Martin's essay, "The Nature of Tragedy in
Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman," it sides that Willy is in fact a tragic hero. On the other hand, in
Foster's essay, "Confusion and Tragedy: The failure of Miller's 'Salesman'", sides that Willy is not a
tragic hero, and he is just a common man. Based on the evidence in, Death of Salesman, and the
points mentioned in Martin's essay, lead to the conclusion that Willy Loman is in fact a tragic hero
and Death of a Salesman is therefore a tragic play.

Martin argues that even though Willy is a common man, he still posses tragic hero qualities because
of the strong connection with the audience and readers. For example, "After all the highways, and
the trains, and the appointments, and the years, you end up worth more dead than alive"(Miller
1823). Willy is explaining the worthlessness of all his years. He never earned enough to save
anything, and he didn't grow, and now he has no job. It is this realization that drives him to suicide.
The audience and readers who are average people like Willy can sometimes appeal to their
emotions. In Willy's case he can connect to the audience and readers to times when the audience felt
like they didn't belong and that they weren't good enough. As a result of this connection between the
two, Willy can be considered a tragic hero. Many people disagree with the fact that Willy is a tragic
hero. Foster states in his essay, that "the hero must have 'stature'"(Confusion and Tragedy: The
failure of Miller's "Salesman" 1). Willy is anything but someone with stature, and yet he still is a
tragic hero. Tragic hero's have a form of conflict throughout the play, being noble and having stature
does not need to be a quality of someone who is a tragic hero. The audience

Temperature Lab Report

  • 1. Temperature Lab Report Determining the stature of an individual is a very mathematical process. Height correlates with long bone length (Alcantara) so bioarchaeologists have devised multiple formulas that help estimate the stature of an individual within 5 centimeters of the actual height ("Forensic Anthropology"). Before a bioarchaeologist can use the formula, he or she must measure the length of the long bones. The osteometric board is used to determine this. The long bone is placed on the board with one side touching the head of the board. Then, the movable piece is slid until it touches the other side of the bone. The bioarchaeologist will take the measurement given on the board and plug it into a specific formula ("Techniques and Tools of the Trade"). If the long bone used is a femur, the thigh bone ("Femur") , there are three formulas that can be used to determine the stature: 2.32 x femur max length (cm) + 65.53 for male ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Genetic differences, environmental problems, and cultural differences are some characteristics that can be studies based on stature, but nutrition is one of the most common differences studied (Alcantara). Studying the statures of many individuals in a population can help bioarchaeologists learn a great deal about people's, especially children's, diets and their deficiencies. Although genetics play the biggest role in influencing a person's stature, the environment does play a significant part. The amount of protein, minerals such as calcium, vitamin A, and vitamin D in a child affects their growth. A deficiency any of these essentials can lead to problems later on. Malnutrition can also stunt a child's growth. By estimating the stature of many individuals in a population, adults and children alike, a bioarchaeologist can learn about the environment and lifestyles of a population ("How Much of Human Height Is Genetic and How Much Is Due to ... • 5. Who Is Ethan Frome A Tragic Hero The character Ethan Frome in the novella, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton can be classified as an archetypal tragic hero. Ethan is archetypal, as the issues which confront him are universal. He draws on thoughts, feelings and concerns that have been part of humanity since the start of mankind. Ethan is a tragic hero as he shares in common, some of the characteristics required to be so. Two of these characteristics include that he has a noble stature and that he succumbs to hamartia. While Ethan Frome may not conform to a strict definition of tragic hero to be found in classical literature, he is an archetypal tragic hero nonetheless. What is particularly tragic about Ethan Frome, however, is that in order to be good, he has to be miserable. One of the defining qualities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethan is neither rich, nor politically powerful. He has neither high status, nor a form of superiority greater than any other respectable member of his community. However, Ethan Frome initially possesses a moral loftiness due to his adherence to the values esteemed by his community. Ethan begins as a modern form of tragic hero by living a life of duty, integrity and conformity. He is a protagonist who lacks the traditional qualities of a hero and thus, is a modern anti–hero. Thus, Ethan Frome's noble stature is derived from his initial moral loftiness. Furthermore, some may argue that Ethan is not a tragic hero because his hamartia is not due to a traditional shortcoming such as hubris. Ethan does not suffer from excessive pride, but rather is supremely humble. However, Ethan does suffer a tragic fall. In forsaking the values of his community, and putting his own needs ahead of others, he is left more trapped and miserable than before. While Ethan's tragic flaw is defying the code of his community, it nonetheless leads to his downfall leaving him in tragic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance Of Growth In Human Growth Human growth relies on both genetics and environment to reach an optimal fitness that is advantageous for productive reproduction. Growth refers to increase in physical size that is measurable. Stature is one kind of growth that is complex to understand as both human variation as well as secular trends can affect stature. Secular trends are shifts within a measurable time period that can affect humans. For example, past the industrial revolution, humans began to increase in size and also experienced earlier maturation. Specifically, in the article by Pes et al., "A secular trend in body height, namely its progressive increase over more than a century has also be documented in the Sardinian population," (Pes et al., 5). The measureable amount of time is not the only note for change, as several factors can influence growth that include: genetics, economic status, culture, ecology, nutrition, disease, as well as stress. A few of these factors are discussed in Pes's article. The subject of nutrition was a factor of body height increase, since the increase in height was, "...caused by the increase in limb length rather than trunk length, which strengthens further the suggested influence of environmental and/or nutritional factors," (Pes et al., 5). The article further explains that short legs are an indication of poor prepubertal nutrition (Pes et al., 5). Another secular trend that was noted in the article was the effect of disease on Sardinian stature. The stature of Sardinians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Squirrel Monkeys And Its Impact On The Body Size Additionally, the attainable range of shoulder mobility relative to over–all body size has an impact upon the fore–limb reaching that occurs over the course of a diagonal sequence gait. Squirrel monkeys, which display a more upright limb posture relative to other arboreal quadrupeds, do not have the ability to achieve extensive shoulder mobility (Schmidt 2005; Whitehead and Larson 1994). Compared to Cercopithecids, including rhesus macaques, however, squirrel monkeys possess an increasingly mobile proximal humerus joint, for they must create torque and movement around limited support axes (Nakatsukasa 1994; Schmidt 2005:366). The articular proportions between species (see Appendix IV), however, do not initially appear to reflect that difference in shoulder mobility, for the rhesus macaque specimens possess a greater mass / humeral head surface area compared to the squirrel monkey (see Figure 4). This initial variation reflects Cheng and Scott's (2000) investigation, which highlighted a larger proximal humerus in terrestrial macaques necessary for the ability to reach forward, to the extent that Cercopthecids are able, and subsequently move the body across a flat surface (Cheng and Scott 2000). There remains, however, the fact that the larger mass / humeral head ratios of the rhesus macaques does not correspond to similarly greater stature proportions (see Figure 6, Table III). In order to explain that difference, it is useful to examine the stature / humeral head ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. China 's Stature As A Political As Well As Economic... Synopsis: – China's stature as a political as well as economic hegemon continues to grow well into the second decade of the 21st century. This has led many to believe that the Chinese Renminbi (which is denominated in the Yuan, and hence, referred hereafter as such) – may soon eclipse the United States Dollar (USD) as the World Reserve Currency (WRC). Such claims of a currency of a large economy eclipsing the USD as the WRC have been rife in the past. In its heyday, Japan's Yen was thought to have the capacity to overthrow the USD's dominating position in the 1970's. After that, the German Mark was widely expected to do the same in the 1980's. And later, the Euro too was theorized to be the next WRC. The major aim of this paper is to give economic and political arguments to show that the Yuan will similarly not succeed to dethrone USD as the world's most dominant currency. This essay is divided into several sections. The first section deals with defining what exactly the author means by 'World Reserve Currency' and 'Dominant Currency' – because without underlying this, the issue becomes vague and ambiguous. The second section seeks to answer the factors affecting currency compositions of reserves across the world – and will briefly argue why the USD (and not the Yuan or any other currency) continues to fit the bill as the perfect reserve currency. It is followed by section three which asks why the tag of "World Reserve Currency" is so important – and also answers why the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Forensic Anthropology Analysis Conducted On The 21 / 11 / 14 Forensic Anthropology Analysis conducted on the 21/11/14 Introduction: The practical involved examining the unidentified remains found in the back garden of Mr Wills' house following his suicide. The remains were subject to a skeletal inventory, a brief examination (in order to assess the condition of the bones), sex estimation and stature estimation. All of these examinations were conducted with the objective of producing a biological profile for the victim/s in order to gain a better understanding of the possible identity of the victim and the circumstances surrounding their death. Background: The Metropolitan Police made a subsequent decision to conduct a search of Mr Leonard Wills' house and garden after his suicide. During the search an oil drum was uncovered, located beneath an ornamental pond. Inside the oil drum a number of black bags (4) were discovered each encompassing a skull, pelvis, and femur. The police are working with the rational that each bag contains the remnants of one person. Aims: The practical aims to establish a minimum number of individuals at the crime scene, a biological profile for each victim and the possible cause of death to these victims. In order to achieve this a number of anthropometric procedures must take place. Firstly, an examination of which bones were present and their anatomical position using a Skeletal Recording Form. Mostly the sex estimation is finished by looking at the morphological features of Pelvis– which because of conceptive necessities shows unmistakable characteristic elements which serve as trademark; or cranium. Stature is in common language the standing tallness of a living person. With regards to legal human sciences, it constructs part of the natural profile of a person in the discriminating proof affair. A scope of techniques have been created to decide stature from human stays to various degrees of fulfilment and protection. These characteristics for example also include the degree of fusion of the proximal and distal epiphyses, fusion of the cranial sutures, dental eruption patterns etc. Generally the sex estimation is done by examining the morphological features of Pelvis or cranium, but this is possible only when these parts are recovered. An ugly toad stole Thumbelina and tried to marry her to her even more unsightly son. After she escaped the toad, a cockchafer forced her to be his date to a party, almost perished in the lonely winter months, and again is nearly forced to marry an unappealing mole. Although after a rainstorm of bad events, a rainbow appears. After Tiny's tragic events, Tiny is finally wed to a handsome, fairy prince. Tiny's character traits and build carried the story. After hearing her sing, the mole fell madly in love with the little girl and wanted to marry her. The narrator said, "She was herself so frail and delicate, that poor little Tiny was nearly frozen to death." This quote all in itself says Tiny was so small, that the winter almost killed her. If Tiny were larger, she would have had an easier time regulating her body temperature and the snow falling would not have affected her as much. Therefore, Tiny would not have been almost dead, and the mouse and the mole would have never met her. The final event that was caused by Tiny's small stature was marrying the fairy prince. Although incompatible for their love of sunshine, the mole wanted to marry Thumbelina, regardless of what she wanted. With the wedding day approaching quickly, Tiny knew she could not marry the mole, no matter how wealthy he was. He liked dark, emptiness. Thumbelina loved light, warm sunlight. She befriended an injured swallow and he took Tiny away before the wedding. Shortly after having reached a place where the sun always shines, she saw a man, rather a tiny king. Dwarfism is generally defined as an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches (147 centimeters) or less. The average adult height among people with dwarfism is 4 feet (122 cm). Many different medical conditions cause dwarfism. In general, the disorders are divided into two broad categories: Disproportionate dwarfism. If body size is disproportionate, some parts of the body are small, and others are of average size or above– average size. The Significance, Relevance And Organizational Stature The significance, relevance and organizational stature of stock management will increase in the future as numerous forces are dictating changes in this direction (Peterson & Silver, 1979). One force is the trend toward increasing the number of highly specialized and complex products (Fogarty, Blackstone & Hoffmann, 1991). As a result of this development, more organizations in the future will make fewer and buy more of their material requirements. Consequently, goods will represent an increasing percentage of total product costs, and their control will be even more important than it is today (Hax & Candea, 1979). As product variety increases, so do the problems of materials management (Fogarty, Blackstone & Hoffmann, 1991). Greater product variety increases the complexities of forecasting future demand, which escalates the inventory investment needed to maintain customer service levels. Expanded delivery capabilities are established by means of branch warehouses, which also escalate inventory complexity and investment (Zipkin, 2000). Forecasting demand for inventory control of slow– moving items poses particular challenges to ensure service level compliance while keeping stock levels low (Ward, 1978 and Snyder et al., 2012; Peterson & Silver, 1979). All organizations have difficulty managing their inventory. The usual reason is the inability to forecast adequately, when items are added to inventory, it is in anticipation of demand. Also, If the demand is later than expected or never materializes, the result is excessive stock and if the demand is sooner or stronger than anticipated, the result is inadequate stock. Factors that tend to reduce inventory are more accurate forecasts, shorter lead times, integrated synchronized operations, technology upgrades, improved communication networks, and standardization (Brown, 1959; Lee & Billington, 1992). The importance of inventory has also pointed out by Herrick (1950) who claimed that it is an important factor in the determination of net income, and the amount established by the inventory is conducted forward against the ... "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight" exemplifies 3 elements of an epic – supernatural forces, hero of unbelievable stature, and vast setting. In the poem, the Green Knight made first appearance in King Arthur's round table and challenged the King. Instead of Arthur, Sir Gawain accepted the Green Knight's game and beheaded the Green Knight. Supernaturally, the Green Knight did not die but he walked away. As the story went, the Green Knight explained that he used the spell of a witch to deform his body, which explains why he did not die when Sir Gawain cut his head. Moreover, the poem had a hero of unbelievable stature, which was Sir Gawain. Sir Gawain was known to have peerless chivalry and courtesy and has a position as one of the King Arthur's knights. It is true that being Arthur's knight made him high in stature, but his chivalry and courtesy mainly made him high in stature through view of others. Lastly the poem had vast settings which the story took place in various settings. At the beginning, the story started from Arthur's round table, then Sir Gawain goes to a journey through the wilderness of northwest Britain, to a castle, then to the Green Chapel where he faced the Green Knight. His own destruction is for a greater cause or principle." The character Ethan Frome in the novella, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton can be classified as a tragic hero. After being physically and emotionally isolated in a loveless marriage for seven years, the protagonist, Ethan Frome, began his descent as a result of an error in judgement. As an effect of this isolation, Ethan follows his instincts instead of his intellect, leading to a punishment much more harsh than his initial crime. By making poor choices, Ethan poses a threat to society and causes suffering to family members, friends and associates. The common characteristics of a tragic hero include the character beginning with noble stature, enduring his "hamartia" (tragic flaw), and suffering a punishment that is worse than the crime. For instance, the simple distinction of sex may influence how we regard another person, and thus directly influence our manner of speaking, our body language, even our facial expressions. These judgements are often based off of gender stereotypes, and gender ideology, two concepts so engrained is society we fail to recognize them usually (Guest 2014). To further examine the roles such judgements, play in everyday interactions, I sat in a café downtown for an hour and people–watched, noting who was interacting with whom, and how different traits such as gender, or even social class influence them. Throughout the observation, it was fascinating to see how people let these judgements influence them entirely. Though more interesting may have been the patterns that unfolded. A particularly noticeable trend was one defined by sex. Women generally interacted with more women, while men interacted with more men. In these same–sex interactions, women overall seemed more at ease, they maintained more relaxed postures, displayed a wider range of paralanguage, and even spoke at a louder volume. Oddly, men were divided when it came to same–sex interactions. If the men were of equal status, they generally sustained good posture, with shoulders rolled back, though minimal tension. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language, staging techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature who has a tragic flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall that is partially their fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer exceeds the "crime" but the tragic hero gains some sort of self–awareness. Another soldier calls him "the god of Jupiter" which elevates Antony's status to that of a great leader, because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars, the god of war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar recalls Antony's excellent soldiership and "virtus" qualities. "Virtus" was the Roman ideal of male force and energy: military prowess coupled with devotion to one's honour and fame. Antony had to "drink/the stale of horses" and eat "strange flesh" and "the bark of trees" in order to stay alive and he was "borne so like a soldier that thy cheek...lanked not." These striking images paint an unfathomable scene of heroic endurance which the audience respects and admires. The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar's home between Caesar and Lepidus, who were the other two thirds of the "triple pillar of the world" – the triumvirate. The triumvirate were a powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius Caesar. During this conversation, they discuss Antony's debauched life and his former greatness in Caesar's home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that Antony is "a man who is abstract of all faults" and someone who would "give a kingdom for mirth." This shows us how far he has fallen in Caesar's eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine he would be pacing as he ranted about Antony ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 121. New York Research Paper Edward Rutherford once said, "You can do what you like, sir, but I'll tell you this. New York is the true capital of America. Every New Yorker knows it, and by God, we always shall." It seems New York has always been a landmark of the United States, but what made it this way? New York is known for its bright lights, crowded streets, and success. Several different aspects within New York's history have played a role in the iconic stature of New York. Today, New York City is one of the most iconic cities in the world. When you think of New York, some of the first things that come to mind area Broadway, Wall Street, Times Square, and just the thrill of the city itself. On Broadway, you can see shows like Wicked, Mamma Mia, The Newsies, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Could you imagine New York without Broadway? New York would not be the place for people who wanted to break out in the theatrical field to go. This would cause a major decrease in the population of New York. It would also eliminate a huge job market within the country. Without Broadway, there would be no need for people to visit to see a show. This would affect the cities income majorly. New York would be less iconic without Cats, West Side Story, and Wicked, which have helped shape the city. Although Wall Street hides in the shadows of the glamourous city, it plays a huge role in iconic New York. Without it, New York would be lacking the business side of the world. The businesses that line the street affect the economy of New York. The workers are known to be wealthy, which benefits the rest of the city. Wall Street is known world–wide. Without its existence, the rest of the world would have no business interest within the city. New York would still stand as an icon without Wall Street, but the business aspect of the city would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 125. Forensic Anthropological Analysis The identity of the deceased is an important part of postmortem examination, for various reasons. These include ethical and humanitarian need to know how an individual died and who was it, especially for the information to living relatives. Identifying individual's age, biological sex, and stature which eventually generates a biological profile for previously unknown individual. These examinations are done by forensic anthropologist when dealing with bones of the deceased individual to aid law enforcement in establishing profile on the unidentified remains. Anthropologists have collected data from many populations in the world, showing the relationship between the parts of the skeleton and body size and stature. Anthropologist have examined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Trotter and gleser (1952) equation for stature estimation is one of the most ground breaking and became most widely used equation in forensic anthropology due to its simplicity and it was the first to introduce formulae incorporating the standard error. Their equation where developed on a large sample size of 2055, involving 1815 males and 240 females. Majority of the male was comprised of male soldiers killed from world war 11 (Trotter and Gleser 1952) and Korean war (Trotter and Gleser 1952) between the ages of 17–49 years of age. The remaining of sample (855 men and 240 woman) was taken by terry collection (Smtihsonian institute, Washington DC, United states) because trotter and glesser didnt have enough females to begin with and also there weren't enough males within the sample above the age of 40 years of age. The demographic of the final sample population data set consisted of American 'white' (n=1433) and 'negro' (n=622) males and females at the age of 17 years and over (Trotter and gleser). Trotter and gleser recorded all the individuals from this sample size 's maximum length of all long bones including thier: femur, tibia, fibula, humerus, radius and also to calculate mean measurement of each pair. These data are then plotted with their corresponding stature measurements to find out 'best fit' regression line, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 129. How Does Design Better Suited For Someone Of Your Stature?... I inspected the knife in my hand. "That's the Shun. Feel how light it is compared to the Wüsthof?" I pricked a finger on the blade's witchy chin, testing. The handle was supposed to be moisture resistant, but it was quickly going humid in my grip. "I think that design is better suited for someone of your stature." I looked up at the sales associate, bracing for the word people always use to describe short girls hungry to hear "thin." "Petite." He smiled like I should be flattered. Slender, elegant, graceful–now there's a compliment that might actually defang me. Another hand, the skin several shades lighter than my own, appeared in the frame and made a grab for the handle. "Can I feel?" I looked up at him too: my fiancé. That word didn't bother me so much as the one that came after it. Husband. That Word laced the corset tighter, crushing organs, sending panic into my throat with the bright beat of a distress signal. I could decide not to let go. Slip the forged nickel and stainless steel blade (the Shun, decided I liked it better) soundlessly into his stomach. The salesman would probably emit a simple dignified "Oh!" It was the mother carrying her crusty–nosed baby behind him who was the screamer. You could just tell she was that dangerous combination of bored and dramatic, that she would gleefully, tearfully recount the attack to the news reporters who would later swarm the scene. • 133. Australopithecine Comparison The overall stature of Australopithecines compared to of that of Paranthropus, is smaller. Based on the estimates of Johanson and Edgar, 2006; Jungers, 1988, I created a table (Figure 1) illustrating the size of both genera. The average weight of a male in the genus Australopithecines is 43 kg and for Paranthropus is 44.5 kg. The average weight of a female in the genus Australopithecines is 29.5 kg and for Paranthropus is 33 kg. The average male height for Australopithecines is 1.45 m and for Paranthropus it is 1.35 m. The average female height for genus Australopithecines is 1.10 m and for the genus Paranthropus it is 1.15 m. Both genera have sexual dimorphism, where the females are of smaller stature and weight. School of Biological & Earth Sciences BIEGN3005 Honours Project March 2010 Student name: Stephen Dempsey Supervisor name: Professor Alan Turner Estimating femur length from the diameter of the femoral shaft Stephen Dempsey BIEGN300 Honours Project Person Number: 343106 Submission Date: 5th March 2010 Abstract Bone lengths can be used to provide stature estimations in case of unidentified skeletal remains, an important tool in forensic and bioarchaelogical cases. Where the bones are broken or fragmented, regression equations can be used to estimate total bone length from its fragments, which in turn can be used to estimate stature. The aim of this study was to test 2 new measurements of the femoral shaft to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The points of reference chose on the femur are the minimum transverse femoral shaft diameter (TRD) and the minimum anterior–posterior diameter (APD) of the femoral shaft. The samples being used are that of an archaeological population recovered from a medieval cemetery in Poulton, Cheshire. The aim is to use linear regression analysis to test the assumption that there is a significant correlation between these measurements and the maximum femoral length. A further aim is to produce regression equations that can be used on other skeletal remains from the Poulton collection for estimating maximum femur length. 2. Materials and Methods 2.1 Samples
  • 138. The samples used in this study were obtained from the Poulton collection housed at Liverpool John Morres University. Due to the small size of the collection at present and the poor condition of some of the bones, a total number of 18 left sided femora were selected for use in the study. These femora were chosen on the basis of completeness and measurability. All the samples were obtained from adults skeletal remains and the number of male and females femora was 10 and 8 respectively. 2.2 Measurements The following 3 measurements were taken on each of the 18 samples: i. Maximum length of the femur (MAXL) ii. Minimum anterior–posterior femoral shaft diameter (APD) iii. Minimum transverse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 142. Kevin Freeman's Accomplishments President DJ Brackish stood behind his desk in the oval office staring out the window at the white house lawn. He was tired and felt old, but he refused to show it. His triumphs and personal sacrifices had become two mile–long lists that intertwined too often over his past term as president. He had done what no other president could accomplish before him. He stopped wars worldwide, ended terrorism, and helped to create an economic boom as great as the 1920's except without the political corruption and the possibility of being long lasting. However, with his success as president came losses in his personal life. His wife had divorced him right after winning his second turn and he aged faster from the constant stress of running an entire country. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After all his accomplishments in his first term, he needed to find something to put him over the top and he found this in Genetik. He researched deep in closed files to find out all he needed about Genetik. The company had gone downhill over the years since its re–founder was killed, but enough was left for it to be rebuilt again. He didn't really care about the research part of the project, but he took a high interest in the breeding project. He had read the breeding project was created in hopes of making the perfect soldier, one that was unbeatable but yet controllable. Kevin Freeman, the re– founder, had shown little interest in creating more what they call impure even if he fathered one himself. Anna Freeman, the owner of Fossilsalive, was the perfect specimen of an impure, though you couldn't tell by looking at her. When Brackish first met her, she seemed too fragile and beautiful to be any type of threat but he knew better. He knew about the fire flowing in her veins and the power in her DNA. He could see her power in her confident strides and the fire burning in her eyes as she examined him with only a few glances. She may have her father's intelligence, but it was her power he ... • 146. Pubic Symphysis Observation The beginning of the lab consisted of taking inventory of what bone were present in the case number that was being worked on. The Bones that were present in case number 002 were the right tibia, right radius, mandible, right scapula, left humerus, left femur, left Os coxae, the cranium, and two right molars. The first part of the lab was estimating sex from the remains. The method used was Buikstra which helped determined with sex using the Os coxae. While observing the Os coxae I noticed that the ilium looked a low and wide when put together with the femur in posterior position. The morphoscopic method was also used to give a rate from 1–5 of the bone to estimate sex. The ventral arc, subpubic concave and the preauricular sulcus was present ... The lower and upper extremities present but there was not an oval outline present. I also noticed that the ventral rampart was beginning to form. Comparing the Symphyseal face to the Suchey Brooks images it appeared to be in Phase 2 which gives the mean of 25.0, the standard deviation of 4.9 and the age range of 19 – 40. Next I went on to examine the cranial sutures closure using the Meindl & Lovejoy method. Looking at the Midlambdoid and the Brgema on I noticed that these two sutures were closed but they weren't completely fused yet, while the Lambda, Obelion, and anterior Sagittal Sutures minimal closures to them. Combing the composite vault score I received a 7 and gave the age range of 27–44. The next sutures were the Anterolateral, the Midcoronal, pterion, and the Sphenofrontal were also closed but not completely fused together. The Sup Sphenotemporal was open it had no closure while the Infspheno temporal was completely fused. • 150. Bioethics’s Hot Topic of Growth Hormones Essay examples Bioethics's Hot Topic of Growth Hormones In the article "Does Shortness Need a Cure?" Ronald Bailey, the author, indicates Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval of growth hormone use offers a treatment plan for those who are short in stature. Bailey also acknowledges bioethics as a seriously debated topic in the medical field. Bioethics deals with the studies of "moral issues in the fields of medical treatment and research" (Caplan). Bailey touches on the topic of bioethics as it deals with the use of growth hormones, specifically Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for people who are distinguished by their short stature. FDA Ruling and the Ethics Behind it In July of this year, the FDA announced growth hormones, traditionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money spent on treatment. According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children implies it is unacceptable to be short. "Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution curve and say they have a disorder, you're starting down a slippery slope" (Bailey). It is dangerous to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height. At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. "There are many 'formulas' people have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best" (Steele 1). If there is no completely accurate way to predict how tall a child will be, then there is no way for anyone to decide and limit which children are getting the injections of ... • 154. Willy Tragic Hero In the play, Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, the main character Willy Loman has created a lot of controversy as to whether he is in fact a tragic hero. In Martin's essay, "The Nature of Tragedy in Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman," it sides that Willy is in fact a tragic hero. On the other hand, in Foster's essay, "Confusion and Tragedy: The failure of Miller's 'Salesman'", sides that Willy is not a tragic hero, and he is just a common man. Based on the evidence in, Death of Salesman, and the points mentioned in Martin's essay, lead to the conclusion that Willy Loman is in fact a tragic hero and Death of a Salesman is therefore a tragic play. In a tragedy, it is vital for a main character to to have a tragic flaw, and as a result ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin argues that even though Willy is a common man, he still posses tragic hero qualities because of the strong connection with the audience and readers. For example, "After all the highways, and the trains, and the appointments, and the years, you end up worth more dead than alive"(Miller 1823). Willy is explaining the worthlessness of all his years. He never earned enough to save anything, and he didn't grow, and now he has no job. It is this realization that drives him to suicide. The audience and readers who are average people like Willy can sometimes appeal to their emotions. In Willy's case he can connect to the audience and readers to times when the audience felt like they didn't belong and that they weren't good enough. As a result of this connection between the two, Willy can be considered a tragic hero. Many people disagree with the fact that Willy is a tragic hero. Foster states in his essay, that "the hero must have 'stature'"(Confusion and Tragedy: The failure of Miller's "Salesman" 1). Willy is anything but someone with stature, and yet he still is a tragic hero. Tragic hero's have a form of conflict throughout the play, being noble and having stature does not need to be a quality of someone who is a tragic hero. The audience ...
