Capital Punishment Essay Introduction
Crafting an essay introduction on the topic of capital punishment presents a multifaceted
challenge that extends beyond the typical complexities of essay writing. Addressing a subject as
contentious as the death penalty requires a delicate balance between presenting factual
information and navigating the ethical, moral, and emotional aspects associated with this
polarizing issue.
Firstly, the writer must delve into the historical context and evolution of capital punishment,
exploring its origins, justifications, and transformations over time. This demands extensive
research into legal systems, societal attitudes, and philosophical debates surrounding the death
penalty. Understanding the global landscape and variations in policies adds an additional layer of
complexity.
Simultaneously, the essay introduction should engage readers by highlighting the contemporary
relevance of capital punishment. This involves analyzing current statistics, legal precedents, and
high-profile cases to illustrate the ongoing debates and challenges associated with this practice.
Striking a balance between the emotional impact of real-life examples and the need for objective
analysis requires finesse.
The writer must navigate through the intricate web of ethical considerations surrounding capital
punishment, taking into account perspectives from various stakeholders, including lawmakers,
human rights activists, legal experts, and the general public. This involves critically evaluating
arguments both for and against the death penalty and addressing potential biases that may
influence the discussion.
Furthermore, the introduction should set the stage for the essay's main arguments and thesis
statement, providing a roadmap for readers to follow the subsequent analysis. Achieving
coherence and clarity in conveying the essay's purpose while maintaining an unbiased tone poses
an additional layer of difficulty.
In conclusion, crafting an effective introduction for an essay on capital punishment requires a
thorough understanding of its historical, legal, ethical, and societal dimensions. Balancing factual
accuracy, emotional resonance, and analytical depth demands a skillful approach. Successful
execution involves not only presenting information but also fostering an environment where
readers are compelled to engage with the complex and nuanced nature of the topic.

Brand Items And The Purchaser Basic Leadership Process
INTRODUCTION In the modern society brands not only signify the product or
company but also have a strong relationship with perceived quality, consumers life
style, social class, taste etc. The motivation behind this study is to frame a more
profound thought of what impact a brand name can have, when individuals go for
buying, pick the items between various brands, particularly private vehicle like car.
Furthermore, this concentrate additionally tries to investigate the connection
between various brand items and the purchaser basic leadership process. This
study has been conducted through literature study as well as questionnaire
directed survey. Simple random sampling procedure has been used to determine
sampling frame and size and a convenience sample of sixty respondents of different
age groups, income and occupation have been considered for the survey. The
collected data were analysed to comply with the objectives and also to draw
conclusions. From the study it is discovered that when consumer purchases a car,
brand names do effect his/her choice. The study also reveals that branded cars have
a excessive place in consumer mind, when customers go for purchasing a car; they
prefer to purchase a familiar branded car. Customers would prefer not to attempt new
or obscure marked cars in light of the fact that they have very little data about the
slighter known brand. INDUSTRY PROFILEIndia is one of the most significant
emerging car markets in the world today. Leading
Homo Erectus Essay
Homo Erectus
In the quest to explain human origins it is necessary to find a species that bridges
modern man (Homo sapiens) with the apes. To fill this gap evolutionists have set
forth Homo erectus, who lived approximately 400,000 to 1.6 million years ago
(Johanson and Shreeve1989). Although the distinctions are somewhat vague, below
the neck, Homo sapiens and Homo erectus are practically Identical and Homo
erectus was responsible for pioneering the use of standard tools (such as the hand
axe), big game hunting, and the use of fire (Johanson and Shreeve1989).
You may know Homo erectus as Java man or Peking man ( Johanson and Shreeve
1989). Erectus was low of brow, thick of bone, endowed with a brain larger than that

Other than this remarkable jump, the physical features stayed relatively constant over
those 1.4 million years(Washburn, McCown 1972). Some anthropologists say that
their supra orbital ridges were slightly more pronounced than previously, cranial
bones were heavier and there was still no protruding chin but their molars had
decreased in size (Washburn, McCown 1972).
Foreheads began to develop in the later members of the species, most likely as a
result of an expanding frontal lobe (that part of the brain that we believe controls
many of our higher functions such as reasoning, foresight and concentration)
(Johanson and Shreeve 1989). Homo erectus had a lighter jaw than did Homo Habilis
(Johanson and Shreeve 1989).
The following characteristics are generally accepted:
Skull low, broad and elongated Cranial capacity 750 1250 cc Median sagittal ridge
Supraorbital ridge Postorbital constriction Receding frontal contour Occipital bun or
torus Nuchal area extended for muscle attachment Cranial wall unusually thick Brain
case narrower than zygomatic arch Heavy facial architecture Large jaw, wide ramus
No chin (mentum) Teeth generally large Post cranial bones heavy and thick Alveolar
(maxilla) prognathism (Johanson and Shreeve 1992, 82 83)
At least 222 fossils of Homo erectus have been found to date throughout Africa, Asia,
Australia and Europe that support these statistics
The Turning-Point
Have you ever been stuck in the middle of a massive turning point? If so, know that
the challenging times are often full of conflict and objection. Turning points are life
changing and can thus be examined in the memoir Warriors Don t Cry by Melba
Patillo Beals, the autobiography I Never Had It Made by Jackie Robinson, and the
article The Father of Chinese Aviation by Rebecca Maksel. Melba Pattillo Beals,
Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru all encountered life changing events along with turning
points that changed their lives and countries.
As part of the Little Rock Nine, Melba Pattillo Beals broke the color barrier in Little

Being the first African American to play in the Major Leagues, Robinson was not
accepted by his team, let alone all the whites in the country. In paragraph 5, the text
states, Some of the Dodgers who swore they would never play with a black man
had a change of mind, when they realized I was a good ballplayer who could be
helpful in their earning a few thousand more dollars in world series money. This
quote means that Robinson s team doubted him, but realized that he could play
well and started to support him so they could all get a little more money in their
paycheck. But the team did not only hesitate towards Robinson but There were
heartwarming experiences with some teammates; there was Southern born Pee Wee
Reese, who turned into a staunch friend. And there were others. (Robinson) He
was also forced to live in harsh conditions and it wasn t easy getting such hate, but
he dealt with it anyway and showed the people that he could play. Robinson was
forced to live with snubs and rebuffs and rejections (Robinson), but he did it for all
the African Americans in the country who would soon benefit from his acceptance.

Portrayal Of Women In Media Literacy
LITERATURE REVIEW
The well known adage which states that If a woman is educated, the whole family
gets educated , is very appropriate for Media Literacy. Poverty, gender discrepancies,
illiteracy and disconnectivity have left women all over the world helpless when it
comes to getting information. Sadly, historically across the globe such discrepancies
are not confined to a specific culture, region, country or status. But one thing that has
been observed is that this is more obvious in the rural and backward areas (Johnson.
N,2013). It is essential that women be harnessed to use technology and thereby
included in the big picture of media literacy. Having technology and not being able to
use it, is as good as not having it. Developing media skills is equally essential. When
women citizens become critical consumers of information, then they would most
definitely contribute to public discourse effectively. Another reason is that in
developing media skills, women citizens can protect themselves and others from
harmful content pushed mainly by new information and communication technologies.
Portrayal of Women in Media
How women are portrayed or represented in media is also important. Media can play
a significant role in sensitizing the society about gender issues. But, before that, the
media itself needs to be sensitized in covering women issues. The distribution of
power between the two sexes both physical and economic is unequal, leading to
discrimination against women.
Changes in Foreign Policies, Culture, and Domestic...
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 changed the skyscape of New York City.
They also changed the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the United
States. September 11th showed Americans that not even the strongest military
country in the world can protect its citizens from terrorism. The changes in America
since 9/11 have not only impacted Americans but have impacted citizens of other
nations worldwide. This infamous day in history had the power to turn the world
upside down in only a matter of hours.

significantly changed after September 11th. After the terrorist attacks on this day of

These countries saw the war on terror as a multilateral effort, one requiring the
cooperation of many countries and the efforts of many agencies.
Instead, President Bush shunned offers of help from U.S. allies, with the exceptions
of Britain and Australia, in waging the Afghanistan war. In December 2001, President
Bush announced that the United States was withdrawing from the ABM Treaty. The
White House blocked international efforts to strengthen the biological Weapons
Convention, even though the anthrax attacks in the fall of 2001 demonstrated the
dangers of biological terrorism. President Bush announced his doctrine of preemption
that insisted on America s right to attack potential foes before they could harm the
U.S. He then waged war on Iraq, invoking this as a legitimate response to 9/11 and as
a preemptive strike on Weapons of Mass Destruction. When confronted with
objections from many other world powers, President Bush then supported the
invasion of Iraq on humanitarian grounds, freeing the Iraqi people from a brutal
dictator.
In responding to the terrorism of 9/11, the United States has invoked a right to
unilateral action that undermines the international framework of cooperation and
law and shows a disdain for the rest of the world. Even before 9/11, the U.S.
outspent the next 15 countries for defense. The military budget was sharply increased
after 9/11 to
Close Reading The Miller s Tale
Close Reading of The Miller s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales are some
of the most widely read and anthologized pieces of medieval poetry. These tales are
generally celebrated and enjoyed because of the author s use of wit and satire, as
Chaucer often uses word play and characterization to deliver hard hitting, yet
entertaining truths about his time period. This is the case in The Miller s Tale,
which portrays the story of a carpenter with an adulterous wife and the shenanigans
that take place during and after one of her affairs. After closely examining Absalom
s Revenge, the last section of this tale, it is clear to see that Chaucer uses language,
puns, and other writing techniques to provide a commentary on the lewdness of
some who lived during the Middle Ages. In The Miller s Tale, John, the carpenter, is
married to a lady named Alison. She is not the virtuous... Show more content on

By using funny descriptions and puns within his diction, he creates a satire that is
both entertaining and political in nature. For example, the imagery he uses when
describing the flatulence scene is both vulgar and timeless. He writes of Nicholas
and Absolon s interaction, This Nicholas anon leet fle a fart,/As greet as it had
been a thonder dent,/That with the strook he was almoost yblent;/And he was redy
with his iren hoot,/And Nicholas amydde the ers he smoot (lines 3806 3810).
Chaucer manages to compare the sound of Nicholas s passing gas to thunder and
says that it was so toxic that it almost blinded Absolon. The way Chaucer words this
selection is so matter of fact and simply stated, that it increases the hilarity of the
whole incident. Although Chaucer is entertaining his audience, he is also seeking to
show the immorality of the every day people who surround him. This satirical use of
language sets a tone that is both jovial and constructively
Hercules Hero s Journey Essay
Every hero follows the same outline to heroism and Hercules is no different.
Hercules, the son of Zeus, is captured as an infant and constrained to a world of
mortals. Now, as a teenager, Hercules must prove himself worthy of entering back
into Mt. Olympus. With help from a few friends, Hercules withstands all temptations
and finds himself on the path to heroism. Joseph Campbell categorized a heros
journey into three different phases; the departure phase, the initiation phase, and the
return phase. The movie Hercules portrays Joseph Campbell s monomyth in a
brilliant light. Every great hero begins their story in the departure stage. Usually, the
hero recognizes there is something exotic or uncommon about them that secludes
them from others.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this part of the journey, the hero encounters mentors and allies whom will help
them throughout the rest of this phase. A heroic story wouldn t be anything worth
reading if it weren t for the challenges the hero faces. In this phase, the hero will
come face to face with shadows, tricksters, and temptress who will try to tear them
down at any cost. The final and largest battle will take place in this stage.
Following Hercules arrival, he trains with Phil and faces his first, big, challenge;
Megara. Megara is a temptress sent out by Hades to lure and seduce Hercules so
he couldn t defeat him. Hades not only tries to distract Hercules with Meg, but he
tries to kill him with Hydras in a furious battle, but Hercules strength takes them
out in a matter of time. In the final battle, Hercules is up against an ogre, and the
only problem is Hercules gave his strength away to protect Meg from Hades. After
defeating the ogre, Meg is killed trying to protect Hercules. In an effort to save
Meg from death, Hercules visits the underworld and attempts to give up his life for
hers. It is at this point where Hercules is given the title of a hero for his selfless act
of saving Meg and enters the final stage of hero s
The Purpose Of The Greenbelt Land
Summary: Green belt land refers to the land that is reserved for an open space,
often around large cities. The purpose of a greenbelt area is to protect the land
around large urban areas from urbanisation and remain reserved for forestry,
agriculture and providing habitats to wildlife. By preventing urbanisation in this area
it allows for the protection of agriculture. Greenbelt areas are beneficial to both rural
and urban areas. Greenbelt areas not only provide forestry and agricultural activities
for the rural population but on the other hand provide fresh air and outdoor activities
for the urban population.

The green belt areas preserved the county sides in several countries especially in
countries where development would have been hard to resist.
Purpose: The purpose of these greenbelts around the cities is to conserve the scenery,
natural objects and the wildlife. These parks also allow for the enjoyment and also
make the users aware of the development to the city. The green belt protects a huge
variety of its plants and animals. They keep our cities healthy but also keep us
healthy without it we would just be living in concrete and no green belt areas.

Joseph Frank Keaton Iv Or As Everyone Had Called Him...
Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an
American actor, director, producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster
Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua, Kansas. Here s a little fun fact on
why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, Buster Keaton. Legend has it that
when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a
famous magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name
was Harry Houdini. After Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, That was a
real buster! , and so that s how Keaton got his name and that will stick to him for his
whole life. So, Buster Keatons parents Joe and Myra have been part of the actor
/performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow
in their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first
performance was a part of his parent s act. While working with his parents
throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some bruises here and there but he
took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience and in
which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh.
During these performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that
would later become a hallmark of his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to
move to Hollywood because his father s drinking problem would get in the way of
the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton

Economics In Levitt s Freakonomics
On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Freakonomics an eight (8). In Freakonomics,
Levitt and Dubner reform the conventional perspective of economics a tiresome
profession concerning monetary and fiscal matters into a sui generis method of
evaluating the world around us. Levitt and Dubner seek to expand the minds of their
readers with the idea that economicscan be found in obscure places. This can be
exampled through the juxtapositions formed between the Ku Klux Klan and real
estate agents and between teachers and sumo wrestles. Additionally, in the beginning
of the text Levitt states, This book boasts no such unifying theme. It is evident that
from the beginning of the novel Freakonomicsis like nothing I have read before. From
The Virtual And Physical Classroom
As a society increasingly dependent on technology in countless aspects of daily life,
students and educators have been naturally led to the question of technology s role in
education. Virtual education has divided those who ponder its legitimacy, with most
being educators who are directly affected by virtual learning. Advocates argue that the
approach is convenient, opportunistic, and effective. Critics of e learning emphasize
the importance of face to face contact and accountability. At the root of these
arguments is this basic question: how authentic is the virtual world? Can we gain
anything of value that can be applied to real life when we sit behind a screen? As
American citizens spend hours with devices daily, this is a question that desperately
needs to be answered. As Dr. J.B. Arbaugh acknowledges in his comparison of the
virtual and physical classroom, there are two dimensions to a classroom that need to
be evaluated when considering its effectiveness. Exam performance is important
because it shows the the students are comprehending the information, and
participation is important because it shows that the students can apply the
information to their own interactions (Arbaugh). In his study he put two classes side
by side that had the same course material and instructor but was either virtual or
traditional in approach. He found that class participation increased within the virtual
classroom as more introverted people could more easily post comments online rather
Pluto Pros And Cons
People love Pluto, whether they are young or old it does not seem to matter. The
planet (and Walt Disney s beloved character) holds a special place in a lot of people s
hearts. Yet, this only became clear to me after reading The Pluto Files by Neil
deGrasse Tyson. I remember when Pluto s classification changed from being a planet
to a dwarf planet however, I was never aware of how big of a controversy it caused.
The fact that there was a conference deciding whether or not we should keep Pluto
as our ninth planet was not something I was aware of previously to this book.
Tyson does a wonderful job explaining the story of Pluto and not only the how the
planet was reclassified but also why. As we spoke about in class Pluto does not
really fit into the categories of being a planet, this was one of the major arguments
as to why Pluto should not be considered our nineth planet anymore. I believe that it
is interesting that some people were trying to then create a classification specifically
for Pluto. However, this obviously did not come to be as there must be more than
one of something in order for it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is surprising is how people reacted and continue to over the decision. I agree
with Tyson when he says Find quote about Pluto being the smallest planet and
largest dwarf planet Yet, it is surprising that a lot of people do not feel this way.
Why are people so emotionally attached to an object that is billions of miles away?
Is it because it was one of the easier planets to remember in the solar system? Or
perhaps it was because it was the smallest and people tend to cheer for the underdog.
No doubt Disney s fun, loving pup had some help in the matter as well. Whatever the
case people feel strongly enough about the issue to write Tyson personally about the
regrouping of their favorite planet. Again what surprises me is that it was not only

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the statutory framework that sets the
standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and
develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to
ensure children are ready for school and gives children the broad range of
knowledge and skills t hat provide the right foundation for good future progress
through school and life. The Early years foundation stage was introduced in 2008
and sets out one standard framework for learning, development and care for all
children from birth to the foundation year. In Scotland there is the Curriculum for
Excellence which aims to achieve a transformation in education by providing a
coherent, more flexible and enriched curriculum from 3 to 18. In Northern Ireland
pupils in years 1 2 are in foundation stage and Key stage 1 consists of years 3 and

working with children on focused activities that have specific concepts such as play
involving using numbers, starting letter formation and language activities. The
classroom will usually contain educational toys/play areas and children will be
encouraged to work/play independently and choose from a wide range of activities.
Foundation stage classrooms/areas also have facilities outside the classroom for

Public Restroom Controversy
I live in the metropolitan area of Washington D.C., and recently there has been some
controversy over transgenders using public restrooms. This is a moral issue because
it is a form of discrimination on transgenders. There are laws that have been put into
place to protect them, and to give them rights to use the restroom of which they
identify by. Recently a high schoolstudent by the name of Galvin Grimm, in Virginia
sued his county schoolboard. Galvin Grimm is a transgender male that was born a
female. The case is Gloucester County School Board v. G.G. This came about
because he decided to identify as a male his freshman year of high school. Galvin
was able to use the boys restroom for a couple of months. It wasn t until parents of
students that attended the same school, found out about this young man.... Show more

They didn t think it was okay for him to use the boy s bathroom, seeing as at one
point he was using the girl s restroom. The parents were able to convince the board to
stop Grimm from using the boy s restroom, as stated by Associated Press The teen
had used the communal restrooms for nearly two months without incident until the
board responding to complaints from some parents and local residents adopted a
policy in December requiring transgender students to use a private facility, according
to the complaint. This situation stirred up a lot of controversy nationwide, which
made it to the Supreme Court and got the attention of the Obama Administration.
Parents were concerned that if schools made this okay, then it would violate their
children s privacy. This is a situation that should consider both sides feelings about the
situation. Especially seeing as children are being affected the most. It would be an

Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Marriage
Allowing same sex marriage to legally occur is currently a major debate within
Australia that has a huge presence in our contemporary society. Same sex marriage is
defined as the union of two individuals of the same gender identity and these couples
have experienced discrimination on the personal and legal level (Rich Wagner: 2016).
Not only does this debate effect the lives of same sex couples wishing to get married,
but all individuals and groups within the LGBTQIA+ community. A significant issue
with this debate are ideas of heteronormativity which seems to be one of the major
underlying arguments against marriage equality. This paper will be defining
heteronormativity, the basis of this argument, discussing how anthropological
understandings can be applied and ethnographic examples such as campaigns against
marriage equality. Ethnocentrism plays a substantial role within allowing same sex
marriageunder Australian law, as traditionalist views of marriage have overtaken
ideas of a change, however, in modern society the idea of marriage equality is more
widespread and accepted. Even with the current plebiscite being conducted there have
been many campaigns against marriage equality that prove how problematic
arguments against marriage equality are.
Heteronormativity can be defined that it assumes heterosexuality is the only accepted
norm within society and that relationships and/or marriages are only valid if the two,
and only two, individuals are of different sex.
Nafta And The United Atlantic Free Trade Agreement
Introduction
In 1990, Mexico approached the US with a trade agreement to improve the Mexican
economy through a bilateral agreement that would benefit both parties (Villarreal 1
3). Negotiations birthed the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in 1994,
which included three countries Mexico, America, and Canada. Since its inception,
NAFTA has played an instrumental role in improving the economy of its member
states (Thompson 121). Using this agreement, Mexico aimed to attract foreign
investments and improve its economic performance in the same regard. For
example, it strived to create new job opportunities and find new markets for its
products (Thompson 121). These needs emanated from a period of economic
slump that hit the Mexican economy in the 1980s and 1990s. These poor
economic conditions had caused economic desperation in Mexico (Hufbauer 51
52). The main expectation of approaching the US for a bilateral trade agreement
was to increase investor confidence in the country and improve its economic
fortunes in the same regard (Villarreal 1 3). Other expected outcomes included
improved export diversification, increased wage rates (for local workers), and
increased sophistication of the local workforce (Thompson 121 122). Over time,
Mexico hoped that the NAFTA agreement would also help it to reduce wage
differentials with America. Consequently, NAFTA would affect the economy of the
US Mexico border in multiple ways. Besides the economic advantages of the
agreement,
Causes Of Target s Growth
Over the years Target has established itself as the second largest discount store in
America. Falling behind Walmart, Target has experienced periods of strong growth
but has recently encountered problems that have caused concern with those within
the organization as well as external analysts. One of the biggest problems Target is
facing currently is generating consistent customer traffic into its stores as many of
their major departments are continuously loosing money and causing customers seek
out other product alternatives. A major contributor to this problem is that it is
spreading itself thin by offering too much without establishing a competitive
advantage and not firmly establishing itself in denser city locations. Just recently

But if it is going to improve on its recent losses, Target needs to start moving into
more developed areas with stores that are suited to providing its customers with
the products they want and need, but not be overwhelming for customers. Some of
the major problems target will face with this alternative will be costs of
development. Land that is closer to larger populations is going to cost more as
well as the increase in permits and the cost of contractors to create the right store
for the given environment. Another issue Target could face would be choosing
which products they should sell in these new stores, because of the limited
developmental space available, the products chosen will have to be limited as well.
But by moving to more populated areas Target will be able to reach more people and
begin competing with the local stores that are taking away its business. Additionally,
closer locations will provide additional convenience for its
The Purpose Of Art And Its Felicity
Joseph Anton Koch The purpose of art and its felicity lies both in its aesthetic quality
as well is the instructive capacity of art, wherein the various perspectives employed
by artist s help to understand the particular period in which the work was created and
the influences that may have attributed to the final product. The early 19th centuryin
Europe was marked by a desire to return to the classicism of the Greek and Roman
empires as it connoted a sense of stability after the upheaval of the French revolution
which had brought down existing social, political and economic structures to an end.
The work ofJoseph Anton Koch, a German painter who chose to live in Rome and
imbibe the traditions of the classicists shows in his work a clear attachment to the
values of linear composition and idyllic subject matter and this is clearly apparent in
his monumental workHeroic Landscape with Rainbow, now a part of the European
gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City. This work is an apt
illustration of the manner in which the neoclassical tradition of landscape painting
became an important part of the works of European painters of the early 19th century
as a means of portraying the kind of society which people aspired to after the
upheavals of the late 18th century. The heroic landscape as a painting genre had
achieved great popularity in the 17th century when artists like Nicholas Poussin and
Claude Lorrain captured the beauty of the natural environmentas a

Summary Of America s Cultures By Ann Coulter
When thinking about all the wrongdoings America has done, people typically tend
to think of the hardships and suffering black people had to face as a result of
slavery and segregation perpetrated by America. Not many people tend to think
about the plights that other minority groups faced, an issue that was pointed out in Ji
Yeon Mary Yuhfill s essay, Let s Tell the Story of All America s Cultures , where she
herself did not know about the struggles of other minority groups. Ann Coulter argues
that black peopleshould be owed civil rights because of their violent past with
America, and that other minority groups are not as deserving because America has
no history with them. While black people have endured a history of violence in
America, they are not the only ones to suffer in American society. Other minority
groups like immigrants have had their equal share of suffering in America and
therefore America should owe them their civil rights as well.

However, even if the immigrants have never been to this country, America has still
affected them in some way or another. In the video America and the Holocaust , it
was explained how America made it extremely difficult for Jewish immigrants to
obtain visas during World War 2, and how feelings of anti semitism and xenophobia
intensified here in the US, thus alienating the Jews here and Jews who were out of
the country. America s failed attempts at saving the Jewish community such as the
Bermuda conference made it even harder for Jews in and out of the country, who
were not prioritized here in America. Despite never being in this country as Coulter
says, America has still hurt these immigrants and put them through hardships and
suffering. These immigrants still therefore deserve their civil rights because they still

Dome Of Rock
The Dome of the Rock is among the largest Islamic shrines that are located in
Jerusalem. Built almost thirteen centuries ago, this shrine remains one of the most
gorgeous and treasured architectural buildings in the world. It is adorned with a
splendid gold dome and an elaborate inscription that represents the Islamic religion.
This shrine is built on a sacred rock that was considered to be holy before Islam
started. To the Jewish, this rock was the very spot where Abraham was meant to
sacrifice Isaac, his son. Besides, the shrine is believed to stand at the spot of the Holy
of Hollies of Herod s Temple and Solomon s Temple (Grabar 59). According to

The dome is covered using gold sheathing and it sits on top of a building that is

building has eight arched entrances and staircase that are connected to the temple on
the lower side. Currently, the building still has its original decorations and mosaics

Solubility Lab Report
This lab experiment aims at using different techniques of dissolving and extraction
to test the rates of solubility of different substances that have both similar and
dissimilar substances. Each experiment was based on the idea of like substances
dissolving each other, which means that polar substances can be dissolved in polar
substances, and non polar substances can be dissolved in non polar substances [1].
To add, each experiment required that both dissimilar and similar substances are
mixed in order to develop layers resulting from the immiscibility (inability of
substances to mix) which will ultimately enable similar substances to be extracted.
The different kinds of layers that formed were organic or aqueous; organic mainly

Therefore, they cannot dissolve in polar substances like water. [1] This is the
guideline followed by the non polar hydrocarbon biphenyl. Similarly, the like
dissolves like concept explains biphenyl s ability to dissolve in hexane. Ethanol s
insolubility is caused by sp2 hybridization of orbitals of biphenyl which generate
more polarity than the sp3 hybridized orbitals of carbon. [1] Hydrogen bonds with
methanol and water can be formed from the malonic acid compound which follows
the second and sixth guideline. [1] Malonic acid s insolubility with hexane can be
accounted for by their opposing polarities. An oxygen atom, which is
electronegative, is contained in benzophenone thus making its molecules polar. This
explains benzophenone s insolubility with polar methanol. Benzophenone did not
dissolve in water, but it dissolved in hexane because it has 2 non polar aromatic
groups that total up to more than 6 atoms of carbon having an oxygen atom
(Guideline 5). [1] In Part B of the experiment, 1 butanol and 1 octanol were dissolved
in hexane but did not in water. Methanol did not dissolve in hexane, but it did in
water. Although 1 butanol and 1 octanol have an electronegative oxygen atom which
allows polarity, a larger part of their molecules have hydrocarbon bonds that follow
the fourth guideline. However, 1 butanol prevents Guideline 5 that states that
Narcissistic Behavior In The World Of The Kardashians
People around the world of all ages present narcissistic behavior. However, they don
t come out of the womb preparing for a self centered life. They re influenced by a
plethora of good intentions . This sense of entitlement roots from parenting, a desire
for celebrity status, and even social networking.
Like other things that have led to narcissism, parents meant well when they bought
that princess shirt for their daughter. I agree with the authors in that, It says a lot
about our culture that people think a six month old wearing a supermodel bib is
cute (Twenge and Campbell 73). Despite how true this is, there s more to blame
considering our daily lives are being bombarded with news of what s going on in the

The Break Up Analysis
Whether you eat a whole tub of chocolate ice cream while crying or you party like
a rock star all weekend while drinking, a break up is a break up. If you re the
person who eats a whole tub of chocolate ice cream, you probably accompanied it
with romantic movies. Although they are comforting for the time being, they
always leave you to wonder, why didn t my break up didn t have a happy ending like
the ones in the movies? In Peyton Reed s 2006 romantic comedy, The Break Up, it
portrays the realistic events and feelings of a failed relationship. In comparison to
other romantic comedies, this film seems to stand out because it teaches the audience
the lesson that not all break ups leads to make ups.
In The Break Up, the main purpose is to show the realistic events of a toxic
relationship between Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) and Gary (Vince Vaughn
). Brooke is a
very classy art dealer and Gary, in Brooke s eyes, is just a tour bus driver. The first
scene shows how the couple met a Chicago Cubs baseball game and Brooke was
actually on a date with another man. The scene ended with Gary asking her to go
out sometime and the following scene is a slide show of all of Brooke and Gary s
pictures together, portraying that even perfect relationships have their own issues.
The couple has a big argument right off the bat in the third scene, Brooke feels
neglected and unappreciated by Gary. On the other hand Gary, feels that Brooke is
controlling, a perfectionist, and he can never satisfied

Suddenly, the camera switches to a medium close up, and Robert yells, Stop! You

The Narrative Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass Essay
Bishnu Mahat Term paper Frederick Douglass In the 1800 s, subjection was a
significant issue in the United States. The Narrative of the Life of Frederick
Douglass reveals much about American history in the midst of the period of
servitude and outlines conflicts for the cancelation of subjection. As a chronicled
report, it goes on data about the slave family, work, the master slave relationship, and
the treatment and living states of slaves. As an abolitionist tract, it fights against
recognizable methods for pondering subjection s favorable circumstances and its
moral quality, making strong centers for discarding subjugation. Slave families were
much of the time torn isolated by the expert secluding them. Frederick Douglass was
the essential slave to stand transparently and report his fugitive status. He was the
individual who participate in securing the invalidation of suppression and fairness of
African American over his exercises, rationalities, speakers, creator/chief, and
government official. Each and every through hi account, he portrays his own specific
genuine encounters, as they truly happened. Douglass contentions against the
appalling establishment of persecution are presented in the depicting these
encounters. Douglass could see his mom just a few times before she went on when
he was a particularly fiery age. Whatever is left of his family was in addition dead
or far away, and he had no believability of unendingly watching them once more.

Essay On Peer Pressure
Peers are equal in abilities, age, background and even social stature. Peer Pressure
is society pressuring a member of a peer group to undertake certain actions, adapt
values, and do what they believe will allow them to be accepted into such a group.
In the Bible, the Old Testament, the Gospels, and the New Testament provides
examples of Peer Pressure. The ability to either fall into or steer clear of peer
pressure is through the virtues of courage, temperance and prudence. We are followers
of Jesus Christ and we are not the same humans that once roamed the earth. We are
should be more confident in ourselves and our actions than relying on others to tell

Mark 15:15 states that Pilate was peer pressured into doing an act that he knew
was not just, Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas for them, and
after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. This Gospel
passage shows that our common sense can be easily altered by a crowd of people
wishing for a specific outcome. Pilate makes the ultimate decision and worries that
if the people do not get this outcome, they will riot and harm the one that made the
decision. This happens within our current society as well, regarding politics and
how the government feels pressured to do what the people want and if they do
not, they fear of rebelling occurring within their nation. Matthew 27:24 26 is alike
to Mark because he too uses Pilate and his actions as an example. Matthew writes,
When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that a riot was
starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, I am
innocent of this Man s blood; see to that yourselves. And all the people said, His
blood shall be on us and on our children! Then he released Barabbas for them; but
after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. These verses
precede an important beginning. Yes, Pilate succumbs to the crowds and wishes to
please them, but the crowd would not have yelled Barabbas to be freed if it were not

Solitude In William Wordsworth
In the words of Thomas Edison, solitude is when, one does their best thinking.
The importance of solitude can further be divulged into by Franz Kafka s words that
writing is the ultimate source of utter solitude, it acts as a welcome reprieve.
Another of William Wordsworth s contemporaries, Lord Byron was of the opinion
that letter writing was the ultimate way of merging good company with solitude.
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s renowned essay Self Reliance he surmises that it is quite
easy to dwell in the world without caring for its opinion but the greatest level of
solitude and tranquility is achieved when a person learns to be carefree in the midst
of a crowd and learn the bliss of eternal solitude.
And in Nature he states that the universe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pure beauty and grandeur of nature that is, more often than not, taken for granted and
easily ignored by people. The childhood solitude and melancholy thus became the
inspiration behind William Wordsworths numerous famous poems. In literature,

The Effects Of Winter On The Winter
And Then There Was Winter Early November through early March have the

Late March through October are the warmest months of the year and offer the most
outdoor activities, so most people think. What many refuse to recognize is the fact
winterhas just as much to offer as summer. Summer is the warmest seasonof the year.
Lasting from June to August, people vacation and grow crops. With nice weather,
many different activities can take place outdoors, such as fishing, swimming,
golfing, horseback riding, camping, and much more. From May to early June is

retreat for most people during June, July and August, and even into September when
school approaches. Warm weather brings everyone out of their homes and into the
sun. Warm weather does not only appeal to people, but also wildlife. In northern
states like Minnesota, many migratory animals visit the solitary comfort of the warm
temperatures in the summer. Green foliage reappears on the brown, gray branches of
trees. Crops begin their long journey of growth. Many birds return to their summer

landscape in search for the new greenery. All seems to be well in the world of

Importance Of School Counseling
According to the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), Today s school
counselors are vital members of the education team. They help all students in the
areas of academic achievement, personal/social development and career development,
ensuring today s students become the productive, well adjusted adults of tomorrow
(2017). The definition of a school counselorhas changed throughout the years. There
has been a shift from guidance/vocational counseling to a more well rounded
approach. Moving from guidance to counseling, means different job duties and
educational obstacles. Not only do the job responsibilities include career
development, social/emotional development, and academic achievement; included in
this change is focus on student s mental health. With the advancement of this career
to the mental health field, comes with educating stakeholders on the difference. One
way to do this is by producing evidence that counseling techniques work in a
language that most stakeholders understand: academics. The money a public school
receives correlates largely with achievement. If the students do well academically,
the school becomes more attractive. Salaries are better; therefore, more qualified
teachers apply and communities become more enticing to tax paying citizens. Just
the opposite, schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty level,
lower teacher experience, and less money paid per student by the state in which it
resides. All of this

she does just to spend it on a big mansion or expensive cars if they don t even do
that much. This young man may have not even played very well at all, but he is
still earning thousands of dollars for one game. One seventh grade sports fan
named Gwen Drew from Newtown, Connecticut, states, If you re not playing or
not playing well, you still get paid, which isn t fair ( Anastasia 1). The media
builds these athletes up and up, to the point where sitting on the side of a field will
seem so valuable, even more important than saving someone s life or helping
dozens. Nonetheless, the fans shouldn t be shelling moeny from their wallets for a
game. All of these men and women work very hard to earn their money and then
they have to pay extremely high amounts for one ticket. One statement from the
Bleacher Report says that the fans, Keep giving more of our hard earned money to
attend games in person, buy overpriced beer and food and wear the jerseys of our
favorite athletes (Mueller 3). Paying $100.00 for a one time event or getting very
upset at a game that literally has no effect whatsoever on that person may seem a
little extreme, and it is. Although this may seem fun, other things which are less
expensive are too, so no one should be spending so much money on this. If
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative
RGGI Overview
The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cap and trade initiative set to
regulate and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from power generating
facilities with an electrical capacity equal or greater than 25 electrical megawatts
(RGGI, 2015). The drafting of this initiative started in 2003 when Connecticut (CT),
Delaware (DE), Maine (ME), Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH), New
Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Rhode Island (RI), and Vermont (VT) showed interest
in reviewing greenhouse gas emissions and a cap trade coalition to address the
emission from power plants in their territory. In 2005, the above mentioned states
with the exception of RI and MA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
that outlined the model rules for the program. Some of the topics outlined in RGGI
Model Rule include: the responsibilities of the account representatives, permitting
recommendations, monitoring requirements, compliance certification reports,
control periods and others. The Model Rules were also the building blocks used to
develop state specific regulations supporting the goals and actions necessary to
succeed as a member. In 2007 MA, RI and MD also signed the MOU (RGGI,
2015a; RGGI, 2015b). On January 1, 2012, RGGI lost one of its founding members
after the governor of NJ; Chris Christie withdrew NJ s support to the initiative.
Throughout its participation, NJ received over $100 million in revenues directly from
the RGGI markets. (Christie, 2011) The

Compassion Fatigue and Burnout in Nurses Who Work With Children With Chronic
Conditions and Their Families
Introduction
Choosing the career path of a pediatric nurse can be exceptionally rewarding, with
that comes many trials and tribulations. This research paper will be discussing a pilot
study done on compassion fatigue and burnout in nurses who work with children with
chronic conditions and their families. The goal of this study was to identify the
triggers, impacts, and coping strategies pediatric nurses use to manage compassion
fatigue and prevent burnout. Compassion fatigue, meaning the natural behavior and
emotional demands one experiences with helping or wanting to help a traumatized
person, and burnout, the complete ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Purposive sampling was used in this study. Nurses were recruited from an array of
pediatric settings in Minneapolis and Minnesota. Twenty pediatric nurses agreed to
participate. Their nursing experience extended from four to thirty six years. An
interview guide containing eleven essential open ended questions and probe
questions about compassion fatigue and burnout was assembled by the researchers.
The interview guide included questions about the nurse s educational and work
experiences, their experiences with compassion fatigue and burnout, triggers that
lead to compassion fatigue and burnout, and strategies for coping with fatigue and
burnout. Each interview lasted about an hour to an hour and a half, and two
investigators each oversaw half of the interviews. (Maytum, Bielski Heiman,
Garwick, 2004) Results The nurse participants revealed a broad range of emotional
and physical symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout. The majority of nurses
were able to recognize early signals of compassion fatigue. Almost all of the nurses
associated fatigue and lack of energy as leading indicators of compassion fatigue.
Participants described thirty two different triggers. Most of the triggers were work
related, and about one fourth was personal triggers. The triggers were divided into
four categories; triggers related to caring for children
Nature And Modernism In Frankenstein
Human rules over nature and create modernity through the escape of the past. Latour
s idea interconnects in Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In the novel, Victor Frankenstein
created a creature where he believes that it brings the idea of animation, to animate
the inanimate. Moreover, Latour mentions the relation between science, humanities,
and religion. The different aspects of the world creates nature; it is linked together. It
is unethical of Victor s wrongdoings of animating the creature then abandoning it
after realizing the truth, A mummy again endued with animation could not be so
hideous as that wretch (Shelley 43). Victor s understanding towards the creation of
his monster is the modernity of Latour s belief. It is shown that Victor has abandoned
the creature and has no concern of the consequences. Latour argues that the pollution
in the environment is caused... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dilemma of nature is mainly caused through the process of modernity. Latour
states that the responsibility is given to the humans that may cause a positive impact
to the world. The interpretation given by Latour is confirmed and it accurately
reasonable. I believe that it is important to play a role in society and to change the
world into a better place for the humans and the nature; whether it is an animate or
inanimate
Interparental Conflict In Henry And Olive Kitteridge
Yelling. Shouting. Crying. Neither of you is happy, but you stay together for your
kids. This is the story of many households. Children who grows up without both
parents have higher poverty rates and lower levels of educational and occupational
attainment (Musick and Meier 815). Thus, many parents to protect the child stay
together despite their differences. As noble as this may seem, children who grow up
in high conflict environments are at a high risk for many psychological and
behavioral difficulties.
Henry and Olive Kitteridge are a married couple living in the coastal town of
Crosby, Maine. Henry, who was a pharmacist, and Olive, who was a math teacher at a
local junior high school, have son named Christopher. Christopher who is now ...

When his parents saw his report card they got into a huge argument. Each one
blaming the other for the child s bad grade. Later that week, my aunt and the kids
came over to my house. When Adam and I were playing outside and he asked me if
it was his fault that his parents hate each other. That question shocked me. Research
conducted by Keeports and Pittman showed that children exposed to high levels of
interparental conflict were more likely to blame themselves for their parents
arguments (848). This increased level of self blame leads to increased chances of the
child having anxiety and depression. Children also decide how threatening the
conflict is to either themselves, their parents, or their parents marriage (850). My
cousins would comfort their crying mother after the screaming matches the parents
would have. This lead to increased level of threat appraised by the kids. They felt like
the conflict was causing them to choose their mother over their father; thus, staining
their relationship with their dad. They also felt sad and tired after seeing their mom
cry. The worse the conflict in the household got the worse their grades became. They
were unable to focus on their studies due to the constant fighting. Additionally, the
kids were distracted because they were constantly thinking about their home
environment. Overall children who live with both parents are better off the amount of

Nell Towne Personal Conflict Styles
In the article Personal Conflict Styles author Ronald B. Adler, Russell F. Proctor II,
and Nell Towne teaches us that when communicating one s needs in a conflict
situation, there are clear differences between nonassertive, directly aggressive,
passive aggressive, indirect, and assertive behaviors. Nonassertive is one of the
behaviors one might show. Nonassertive is the inability or unwillingness to express
thoughts or feelings in a conflict. Sometimes nonassertive comes from a lack of
confidence. One study revealed that dating partners do not express roughly %40 of
their relational grievances to one another. In contrast to non assertion, direct
aggression occurs when a communicator expresses a criticism or demand that
threatens the face
First Peanuts Research Paper
The first Peanuts comic strip, created by Charles M Schulz, was introduced on
October 2, 1950. The comic was printed in seven newspapers that Sunday morning
and featured characters such as Charlie Brown, Shermy, and Patty. While Snoopy
was introduced early, he did not make an appearance in the first comic strip.
Several characters such as Lucy, Linus, and Woodstock did not make appearances
until years later. The original name for the comic strip was not Peanuts as we
know it as today, but instead it was called Lil Folks. Even though the name Peanuts
stuck, Charles M. Schulz never liked the name himself. The comics were printed
for 50 years in newspapers until Schulz s death in 2000 due to complications from
colon cancer. Even today, his comic is still one of the most famous to have ever
been created. 1951 First Color TV

London that mixed with all the smoke in the atmosphere creating the thick smog
that almost shut down the entire city for 4 days. It is estimated that nearly 4,000
died in that short period from inhaling the smog. Dense urban areas with lots of
factories were generally affected worse than open rural areas. The smog was so
thick that many experienced breathing problems, cattle choked in their fields, and
travel was disrupted for days. As a result of this smog, legislation such as the Clean
Air Act of 1956 was passed. Although London still experiences small spells of smog
here and there, nothing has ever come close to the smog of

Capital Punishment Essay Introduction.pdf

  • 1. Capital Punishment Essay Introduction Crafting an essay introduction on the topic of capital punishment presents a multifaceted challenge that extends beyond the typical complexities of essay writing. Addressing a subject as contentious as the death penalty requires a delicate balance between presenting factual information and navigating the ethical, moral, and emotional aspects associated with this polarizing issue. Firstly, the writer must delve into the historical context and evolution of capital punishment, exploring its origins, justifications, and transformations over time. This demands extensive research into legal systems, societal attitudes, and philosophical debates surrounding the death penalty. Understanding the global landscape and variations in policies adds an additional layer of complexity. Simultaneously, the essay introduction should engage readers by highlighting the contemporary relevance of capital punishment. This involves analyzing current statistics, legal precedents, and high-profile cases to illustrate the ongoing debates and challenges associated with this practice. Striking a balance between the emotional impact of real-life examples and the need for objective analysis requires finesse. The writer must navigate through the intricate web of ethical considerations surrounding capital punishment, taking into account perspectives from various stakeholders, including lawmakers, human rights activists, legal experts, and the general public. This involves critically evaluating arguments both for and against the death penalty and addressing potential biases that may influence the discussion. Furthermore, the introduction should set the stage for the essay's main arguments and thesis statement, providing a roadmap for readers to follow the subsequent analysis. Achieving coherence and clarity in conveying the essay's purpose while maintaining an unbiased tone poses an additional layer of difficulty. In conclusion, crafting an effective introduction for an essay on capital punishment requires a thorough understanding of its historical, legal, ethical, and societal dimensions. Balancing factual accuracy, emotional resonance, and analytical depth demands a skillful approach. Successful execution involves not only presenting information but also fostering an environment where readers are compelled to engage with the complex and nuanced nature of the topic. • 3. Homo Erectus Essay Homo Erectus In the quest to explain human origins it is necessary to find a species that bridges modern man (Homo sapiens) with the apes. To fill this gap evolutionists have set forth Homo erectus, who lived approximately 400,000 to 1.6 million years ago (Johanson and Shreeve1989). Although the distinctions are somewhat vague, below the neck, Homo sapiens and Homo erectus are practically Identical and Homo erectus was responsible for pioneering the use of standard tools (such as the hand axe), big game hunting, and the use of fire (Johanson and Shreeve1989). You may know Homo erectus as Java man or Peking man ( Johanson and Shreeve 1989). Erectus was low of brow, thick of bone, endowed with a brain larger than that of its ... Some anthropologists say that their supra orbital ridges were slightly more pronounced than previously, cranial bones were heavier and there was still no protruding chin but their molars had decreased in size (Washburn, McCown 1972). Foreheads began to develop in the later members of the species, most likely as a result of an expanding frontal lobe (that part of the brain that we believe controls many of our higher functions such as reasoning, foresight and concentration) (Johanson and Shreeve 1989). Homo erectus had a lighter jaw than did Homo Habilis (Johanson and Shreeve 1989). The following characteristics are generally accepted: Skull low, broad and elongated Cranial capacity 750 1250 cc Median sagittal ridge Supraorbital ridge Postorbital constriction Receding frontal contour Occipital bun or torus Nuchal area extended for muscle attachment Cranial wall unusually thick Brain case narrower than zygomatic arch Heavy facial architecture Large jaw, wide ramus No chin (mentum) Teeth generally large Post cranial bones heavy and thick Alveolar (maxilla) prognathism (Johanson and Shreeve 1992, 82 83) At least 222 fossils of Homo erectus have been found to date throughout Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe that support these statistics

Turning points are life changing and can thus be examined in the memoir Warriors Don t Cry by Melba Patillo Beals, the autobiography I Never Had It Made by Jackie Robinson, and the article The Father of Chinese Aviation by Rebecca Maksel. Melba Pattillo Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru all encountered life changing events along with turning points that changed their lives and countries. • 6. Portrayal Of Women In Media Literacy LITERATURE REVIEW The well known adage which states that If a woman is educated, the whole family gets educated , is very appropriate for Media Literacy. Poverty, gender discrepancies, illiteracy and disconnectivity have left women all over the world helpless when it comes to getting information. Sadly, historically across the globe such discrepancies are not confined to a specific culture, region, country or status. But one thing that has been observed is that this is more obvious in the rural and backward areas (Johnson. N,2013). It is essential that women be harnessed to use technology and thereby included in the big picture of media literacy. Having technology and not being able to use it, is as good as not having it. Developing media skills is equally essential. When women citizens become critical consumers of information, then they would most definitely contribute to public discourse effectively. Another reason is that in developing media skills, women citizens can protect themselves and others from harmful content pushed mainly by new information and communication technologies. Portrayal of Women in Media How women are portrayed or represented in media is also important. Media can play a significant role in sensitizing the society about gender issues. But, before that, the media itself needs to be sensitized in covering women issues. The distribution of power between the two sexes both physical and economic is unequal, leading to discrimination against women.

They also changed the political, economic, and cultural landscape of the United States. September 11th showed Americans that not even the strongest military country in the world can protect its citizens from terrorism. The changes in America since 9/11 have not only impacted Americans but have impacted citizens of other nations worldwide. This infamous day in history had the power to turn the world upside down in only a matter of hours. These countries saw the war on terror as a multilateral effort, one requiring the cooperation of many countries and the efforts of many agencies. Instead, President Bush shunned offers of help from U.S. allies, with the exceptions of Britain and Australia, in waging the Afghanistan war. In December 2001, President Bush announced that the United States was withdrawing from the ABM Treaty. The White House blocked international efforts to strengthen the biological Weapons Convention, even though the anthrax attacks in the fall of 2001 demonstrated the dangers of biological terrorism. President Bush announced his doctrine of preemption that insisted on America s right to attack potential foes before they could harm the U.S. He then waged war on Iraq, invoking this as a legitimate response to 9/11 and as a preemptive strike on Weapons of Mass Destruction. When confronted with objections from many other world powers, President Bush then supported the invasion of Iraq on humanitarian grounds, freeing the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator. In responding to the terrorism of 9/11, the United States has invoked a right to unilateral action that undermines the international framework of cooperation and law and shows a disdain for the rest of the world. Even before 9/11, the U.S. outspent the next 15 countries for defense. The military budget was sharply increased after 9/11 to
  • 8. Close Reading The Miller s Tale Close Reading of The Miller s Tale Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales are some of the most widely read and anthologized pieces of medieval poetry. These tales are generally celebrated and enjoyed because of the author s use of wit and satire, as Chaucer often uses word play and characterization to deliver hard hitting, yet entertaining truths about his time period. This is the case in The Miller s Tale, which portrays the story of a carpenter with an adulterous wife and the shenanigans that take place during and after one of her affairs. After closely examining Absalom s Revenge, the last section of this tale, it is clear to see that Chaucer uses language, puns, and other writing techniques to provide a commentary on the lewdness of some who lived during the Middle Ages. In The Miller s Tale, John, the carpenter, is married to a lady named Alison. She is not the virtuous... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using funny descriptions and puns within his diction, he creates a satire that is both entertaining and political in nature. For example, the imagery he uses when describing the flatulence scene is both vulgar and timeless. He writes of Nicholas and Absolon s interaction, This Nicholas anon leet fle a fart,/As greet as it had been a thonder dent,/That with the strook he was almoost yblent;/And he was redy with his iren hoot,/And Nicholas amydde the ers he smoot (lines 3806 3810). Chaucer manages to compare the sound of Nicholas s passing gas to thunder and says that it was so toxic that it almost blinded Absolon. The way Chaucer words this selection is so matter of fact and simply stated, that it increases the hilarity of the whole incident. Although Chaucer is entertaining his audience, he is also seeking to show the immorality of the every day people who surround him. This satirical use of language sets a tone that is both jovial and constructively

With help from a few friends, Hercules withstands all temptations and finds himself on the path to heroism. Joseph Campbell categorized a heros journey into three different phases; the departure phase, the initiation phase, and the return phase. • 11. Joseph Frank Keaton Iv Or As Everyone Had Called Him... Joseph Frank Keaton IV or as everyone had called him Buster Keaton was an American actor, director, producer, writer, comedian, and stunt performer. Buster Keaton was born on October 4, 1895 in Piqua, Kansas. Here s a little fun fact on why everyone calls Joseph Frank Keaton IV, Buster Keaton. Legend has it that when Keaton was eighteen months old he fell on a flight of stairs and there was a famous magician that we all know and love that was there to see it and his name was Harry Houdini. After Houdini saw Keaton fall, Houdini had said, That was a real buster! , and so that s how Keaton got his name and that will stick to him for his whole life. So, Buster Keatons parents Joe and Myra have been part of the actor /performer industry for several years and just like his parents Buster would follow in their footsteps. Buster began performing at the age of 3 and his first performance was a part of his parent s act. While working with his parents throughout his childhood, Keaton would have some bruises here and there but he took pride in that because he loved doing performances for the audience and in which they found it funny, so you can say that he loved making people laugh. During these performances Keaton, would learn to display the deadpan look that would later become a hallmark of his comedy career. In 1917 Keaton decided to move to Hollywood because his father s drinking problem would get in the way of the acts/performances they did. Once moving to Hollywood Keaton

In Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner reform the conventional perspective of economics a tiresome profession concerning monetary and fiscal matters into a sui generis method of evaluating the world around us. Levitt and Dubner seek to expand the minds of their readers with the idea that economicscan be found in obscure places. This can be exampled through the juxtapositions formed between the Ku Klux Klan and real estate agents and between teachers and sumo wrestles. • 14. The Virtual And Physical Classroom As a society increasingly dependent on technology in countless aspects of daily life, students and educators have been naturally led to the question of technology s role in education. Virtual education has divided those who ponder its legitimacy, with most being educators who are directly affected by virtual learning. Advocates argue that the approach is convenient, opportunistic, and effective. Critics of e learning emphasize the importance of face to face contact and accountability. At the root of these arguments is this basic question: how authentic is the virtual world? Can we gain anything of value that can be applied to real life when we sit behind a screen? As American citizens spend hours with devices daily, this is a question that desperately needs to be answered. As Dr. J.B. Arbaugh acknowledges in his comparison of the virtual and physical classroom, there are two dimensions to a classroom that need to be evaluated when considering its effectiveness. Exam performance is important because it shows the the students are comprehending the information, and participation is important because it shows that the students can apply the information to their own interactions (Arbaugh). In his study he put two classes side by side that had the same course material and instructor but was either virtual or traditional in approach. He found that class participation increased within the virtual classroom as more introverted people could more easily post comments online rather
  • 15. Pluto Pros And Cons People love Pluto, whether they are young or old it does not seem to matter. The planet (and Walt Disney s beloved character) holds a special place in a lot of people s hearts. Yet, this only became clear to me after reading The Pluto Files by Neil deGrasse Tyson. I remember when Pluto s classification changed from being a planet to a dwarf planet however, I was never aware of how big of a controversy it caused. The fact that there was a conference deciding whether or not we should keep Pluto as our ninth planet was not something I was aware of previously to this book. Tyson does a wonderful job explaining the story of Pluto and not only the how the planet was reclassified but also why. As we spoke about in class Pluto does not really fit into the categories of being a planet, this was one of the major arguments as to why Pluto should not be considered our nineth planet anymore. I believe that it is interesting that some people were trying to then create a classification specifically for Pluto. However, this obviously did not come to be as there must be more than one of something in order for it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is surprising is how people reacted and continue to over the decision. I agree with Tyson when he says Find quote about Pluto being the smallest planet and largest dwarf planet Yet, it is surprising that a lot of people do not feel this way. Why are people so emotionally attached to an object that is billions of miles away? Is it because it was one of the easier planets to remember in the solar system? Or perhaps it was because it was the smallest and people tend to cheer for the underdog. No doubt Disney s fun, loving pup had some help in the matter as well. Whatever the case people feel strongly enough about the issue to write Tyson personally about the regrouping of their favorite planet. Again what surprises me is that it was not only children but also

  • 18. Argumentative Essay On Same Sex Marriage Allowing same sex marriage to legally occur is currently a major debate within Australia that has a huge presence in our contemporary society. Same sex marriage is defined as the union of two individuals of the same gender identity and these couples have experienced discrimination on the personal and legal level (Rich Wagner: 2016). Not only does this debate effect the lives of same sex couples wishing to get married, but all individuals and groups within the LGBTQIA+ community. A significant issue with this debate are ideas of heteronormativity which seems to be one of the major underlying arguments against marriage equality. This paper will be defining heteronormativity, the basis of this argument, discussing how anthropological understandings can be applied and ethnographic examples such as campaigns against marriage equality. Ethnocentrism plays a substantial role within allowing same sex marriageunder Australian law, as traditionalist views of marriage have overtaken ideas of a change, however, in modern society the idea of marriage equality is more widespread and accepted. Even with the current plebiscite being conducted there have been many campaigns against marriage equality that prove how problematic arguments against marriage equality are. Heteronormativity can be defined that it assumes heterosexuality is the only accepted norm within society and that relationships and/or marriages are only valid if the two, and only two, individuals are of different sex.
  • 19. Nafta And The United Atlantic Free Trade Agreement Introduction In 1990, Mexico approached the US with a trade agreement to improve the Mexican economy through a bilateral agreement that would benefit both parties (Villarreal 1 3). Negotiations birthed the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in 1994, which included three countries Mexico, America, and Canada. Since its inception, NAFTA has played an instrumental role in improving the economy of its member states (Thompson 121). Using this agreement, Mexico aimed to attract foreign investments and improve its economic performance in the same regard. For example, it strived to create new job opportunities and find new markets for its products (Thompson 121). These needs emanated from a period of economic slump that hit the Mexican economy in the 1980s and 1990s. These poor economic conditions had caused economic desperation in Mexico (Hufbauer 51 52). The main expectation of approaching the US for a bilateral trade agreement was to increase investor confidence in the country and improve its economic fortunes in the same regard (Villarreal 1 3). Other expected outcomes included improved export diversification, increased wage rates (for local workers), and increased sophistication of the local workforce (Thompson 121 122). Over time, Mexico hoped that the NAFTA agreement would also help it to reduce wage differentials with America. Consequently, NAFTA would affect the economy of the US Mexico border in multiple ways. The Purpose Of Art And Its Felicity Joseph Anton Koch The purpose of art and its felicity lies both in its aesthetic quality as well is the instructive capacity of art, wherein the various perspectives employed by artist s help to understand the particular period in which the work was created and the influences that may have attributed to the final product. The early 19th centuryin Europe was marked by a desire to return to the classicism of the Greek and Roman empires as it connoted a sense of stability after the upheaval of the French revolution which had brought down existing social, political and economic structures to an end. The work ofJoseph Anton Koch, a German painter who chose to live in Rome and imbibe the traditions of the classicists shows in his work a clear attachment to the values of linear composition and idyllic subject matter and this is clearly apparent in his monumental workHeroic Landscape with Rainbow, now a part of the European gallery at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City. This work is an apt illustration of the manner in which the neoclassical tradition of landscape painting became an important part of the works of European painters of the early 19th century as a means of portraying the kind of society which people aspired to after the upheavals of the late 18th century. The heroic landscape as a painting genre had achieved great popularity in the 17th century when artists like Nicholas Poussin and Claude Lorrain captured the beauty of the natural environmentas a

Summary Of America s Cultures By Ann Coulter When thinking about all the wrongdoings America has done, people typically tend to think of the hardships and suffering black people had to face as a result of slavery and segregation perpetrated by America. Not many people tend to think about the plights that other minority groups faced, an issue that was pointed out in Ji Yeon Mary Yuhfill s essay, Let s Tell the Story of All America s Cultures , where she herself did not know about the struggles of other minority groups. Ann Coulter argues that black peopleshould be owed civil rights because of their violent past with America, and that other minority groups are not as deserving because America has no history with them. Each experiment was based on the idea of like substances dissolving each other, which means that polar substances can be dissolved in polar substances, and non polar substances can be dissolved in non polar substances [1]. [1] This is the guideline followed by the non polar hydrocarbon biphenyl. Similarly, the like dissolves like concept explains biphenyl s ability to dissolve in hexane. Ethanol s insolubility is caused by sp2 hybridization of orbitals of biphenyl which generate more polarity than the sp3 hybridized orbitals of carbon. [1] Hydrogen bonds with methanol and water can be formed from the malonic acid compound which follows the second and sixth guideline. [1] Malonic acid s insolubility with hexane can be accounted for by their opposing polarities. An oxygen atom, which is electronegative, is contained in benzophenone thus making its molecules polar. This explains benzophenone s insolubility with polar methanol. Benzophenone did not dissolve in water, but it dissolved in hexane because it has 2 non polar aromatic groups that total up to more than 6 atoms of carbon having an oxygen atom (Guideline 5). [1] In Part B of the experiment, 1 butanol and 1 octanol were dissolved in hexane but did not in water. Methanol did not dissolve in hexane, but it did in water. Although 1 butanol and 1 octanol have an electronegative oxygen atom which allows polarity, a larger part of their molecules have hydrocarbon bonds that follow the fourth guideline. Just the opposite, schools that perform poorly academically have higher poverty level, lower teacher experience, and less money paid per student by the state in which it resides. All of this

Unquestionably, a single bachelor does not need to be paid as much money as he or she does just to spend it on a big mansion or expensive cars if they don t even do that much. This young man may have not even played very well at all, but he is still earning thousands of dollars for one game. One seventh grade sports fan named Gwen Drew from Newtown, Connecticut, states, If you re not playing or not playing well, you still get paid, which isn t fair ( Anastasia 1). The media builds these athletes up and up, to the point where sitting on the side of a field will seem so valuable, even more important than saving someone s life or helping dozens. Nonetheless, the fans shouldn t be shelling moeny from their wallets for a game. All of these men and women work very hard to earn their money and then they have to pay extremely high amounts for one ticket. One statement from the Bleacher Report says that the fans, Keep giving more of our hard earned money to attend games in person, buy overpriced beer and food and wear the jerseys of our favorite athletes (Mueller 3). • 44. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative RGGI Overview The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a cap and trade initiative set to regulate and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases from power generating facilities with an electrical capacity equal or greater than 25 electrical megawatts (RGGI, 2015). The drafting of this initiative started in 2003 when Connecticut (CT), Delaware (DE), Maine (ME), Massachusetts (MA), New Hampshire (NH), New Jersey (NJ), New York (NY), Rhode Island (RI), and Vermont (VT) showed interest in reviewing greenhouse gas emissions and a cap trade coalition to address the emission from power plants in their territory. In 2005, the above mentioned states with the exception of RI and MA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlined the model rules for the program. Some of the topics outlined in RGGI Model Rule include: the responsibilities of the account representatives, permitting recommendations, monitoring requirements, compliance certification reports, control periods and others. The Model Rules were also the building blocks used to develop state specific regulations supporting the goals and actions necessary to succeed as a member. In 2007 MA, RI and MD also signed the MOU (RGGI, 2015a; RGGI, 2015b). On January 1, 2012, RGGI lost one of its founding members after the governor of NJ; Chris Christie withdrew NJ s support to the initiative. Throughout its participation, NJ received over $100 million in revenues directly from the RGGI markets. (Christie, 2011) The

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Purposive sampling was used in this study. Nurses were recruited from an array of pediatric settings in Minneapolis and Minnesota. Twenty pediatric nurses agreed to participate. Their nursing experience extended from four to thirty six years. An interview guide containing eleven essential open ended questions and probe questions about compassion fatigue and burnout was assembled by the researchers. The interview guide included questions about the nurse s educational and work experiences, their experiences with compassion fatigue and burnout, triggers that lead to compassion fatigue and burnout, and strategies for coping with fatigue and burnout. Each interview lasted about an hour to an hour and a half, and two investigators each oversaw half of the interviews. (Maytum, Bielski Heiman, Garwick, 2004) Results The nurse participants revealed a broad range of emotional and physical symptoms of compassion fatigue and burnout. The majority of nurses were able to recognize early signals of compassion fatigue. Almost all of the nurses associated fatigue and lack of energy as leading indicators of compassion fatigue. Participants described thirty two different triggers. Most of the triggers were work related, and about one fourth was personal triggers. The triggers were divided into four categories; triggers related to caring for children

When Adam and I were playing outside and he asked me if it was his fault that his parents hate each other. That question shocked me. Research conducted by Keeports and Pittman showed that children exposed to high levels of interparental conflict were more likely to blame themselves for their parents arguments (848). This increased level of self blame leads to increased chances of the child having anxiety and depression. Children also decide how threatening the conflict is to either themselves, their parents, or their parents marriage (850). My cousins would comfort their crying mother after the screaming matches the parents would have. This lead to increased level of threat appraised by the kids. They felt like the conflict was causing them to choose their mother over their father; thus, staining their relationship with their dad. They also felt sad and tired after seeing their mom cry. The worse the conflict in the household got the worse their grades became. They were unable to focus on their studies due to the constant fighting. Additionally, the kids were distracted because they were constantly thinking about their home environment. Overall children who live with both parents are better off the amount of conflict in
