3. TEMPERATE CLIMATE
• The temperate climate has mild to warm
summers and cool winters.
• The word temperate means moderate,or in the
middle.This is helpful in understanding the
climate in the temperate zone - it does not have
extremes.
• It is a relatively comfortable climate, especially
near the coast, where summers are cooler and
winters are warmer than further inland.
• Pune and Bangalore are cities that fall under this
climatic zone.

• The solar radiation in this region is more or less the same throughout the
year.
• Being located at relatively higher elevations,these places experience
lower temperatures than hot and dry 30-340C during the day and 17-240C
at night.

• Women wear sarees that are 9 yards long.
The saree is tucked in the middle giving it a
similar look to the dhoti.The rest of the
saree is wrapped around the upper body of
the women.This type of saree is usually called
Lugade.
• The men in Maharashtra usually we a dhoti.A dhoti is a single piece of cloth that is tucked around one's waist,and it
covers the entire leg till the ankle.

• Like most big cities,Bengaluru has a lot to offer in terms of
dining options.Whether expats are on the look out for
authentic local street food,a fine dining experience or
something in between, one is sure to find it in Bengaluru.
• The traditional dress for men is Lungi. It is worn under the
waist below a shirt.
• The traditional clothing for women in Karnataka is saree. It is
made of silk and silk sarees are very famous not only in
Karnataka but the entire country.Even Karnataka is known as a
silk hub of India.
• Bangalore has also acquired the status of an educational city.
Thousands of students come to the city every year to study at
the undergraduate or the postgraduate level.
10. Vernacular architecture of PUNE
Wada architecture
• The traditional residence in
Maharashtra was called the wada.
• A wada was typically a large
building of two or more storey with
groups of rooms arranged around
open courtyards.
Two types of wadas:
One which houses many families, like an apartment
building of recent times or chawl of Mumbai.(Mostly
for the middle class families)
One in which only one family resided. (Mostly
owned by the richer class like relatives of the
peshwas and traders)
This type of Architecture style dealt perfectly with Air
and Light, resulting to great ventilation of both.And it
also fulfilled security/privacy concern, due to the
exterior of structure.All the courtyard houses/plans in
today’s time, have been somewhat influenced by the
Maratha Reign Architecture.
13. VERNACULAR ARCHITECTURE OF BANGALORE
The Gutthu Houses of the land owning community of
south Karnataka are large, inward looking Hindu
Mansions.
The typical Gutthu house has a steeply pitched roof,
combining single & double storied blocks around a
courtyard.
It is the isolated home of a well-to-do family
designed to deter attacks.
The facade is usually symmetrical around a central
projection, the tallest and most impressive feature of
the house.
The principal building material is wood.
15. The term extra-tropical cyclone , temperate cyclone , mid-latitude cyclone are interchangeably used to denote moving
cyclones , which develops in region between 30° & 60° north and south latitude in both hemisphere .
Much of the highly variable & Cloudy weather in temperate zone is direct result of this travelling cyclones , so called
temperate cyclone.
It is in these latitude zone that the polar and tropical air masses meet and form polar fronts , most of these cyclone form
wavelike twist(wave cyclone) & shown on map as low pressure area enclosed by a number of isobar circular or elliptical in
shape (low depression).

16. FLORA & FAUNA FOUND IN
BANGALORE
• Stinking passion flower:-
• The stems are thin and wiry, covered
with minute sticky yellow hairs.
• Older stems become woody.
• When crushed, these leaves give off
a pungent odor that some people
consider unpleasant.
• The flowers are white to pale cream
colored.
• The fruits is globose, yellowish-
orange to red when ripe, and has
numerous black seeds embedded in the
pulp.
• Terminalia catappa :-is a large
tropical tree in the leadwood tree
family, Combretaceae, that grows
mainly in the temperate climate.
• The tree grows to 35 m (115 ft) tall,
with an upright, symmetrical crown
and horizontal branches.
• Terminalia catappa has corky, light
fruit that are dispersed by water.
• The seed within the fruit is edible
when fully ripe, tasting almost like
almond.
• As the tree gets older, its crown
becomes more flattened to form a
spreading, vase shape.
17. The Indian roller:-
(Coracias benghalensis) is
a member of the roller
bird family. It occurs
widely from West Asia
to the Indian
Subcontinent and Sri
Lanka.
It is best known for its
aerobatic displays of
males during the
breeding season.
It is often seen perched
along roadside trees and
wires and are commonly
seen in open grassland
and scrub forest
habitats.
It is not migratory, but
undertakes some
seasonal movements.
The largest population
occurs in India.
The gaur:- also called the
Indian bison, is the largest extant
bovine. This species is native to
the Indian subcontinent and
Southeast Asia. It has been listed
as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red
List since 1986.
The gaur is a strong and
massively built species with a
high convex ridge on the
forehead between the horns,
which protrudes anteriorly,
causing a deep hollow in the
profile of the upper part of the
head.
There is a prominent ridge on the
back. The ears are very large;
the tail only just reaches the
hocks, and in old bulls the hair
becomes very thin on the back.
18. FLORA & FAUNA FOUND IN PUNE
Herbaceous:-
• Herbaceous plants are
plants that have no
persistent woody stem
above ground.
Herbaceous perennial
and biennial plants may
have stems that die at
the end of the growing
season, but parts of the
plant survive under or
close to the ground
from season to season.
• it is found mainly in
pune.
Gloriosa Superba:-
• It is commonly known as the
flame lily or fire lily due to
its shape and striking fire-
like colour.
• This root of this herb has
medicinal qualities.
19. Danaid Eggfly:-
• A beautiful butterfly, which is a
widespread species.
• The male is blackish in colour and has
white spots that are fringed in blue.
• The female is in multiple forms that
include male-like forms.
• An inhabitant of open country with
moderate rainfall, it is a strong and fast
flier.
• One can also see this species in the
University of Pune.
Chinkara:-
• Chinkaras are mainly found around Pune near
Saswad or on Solapur road.
• It is a shy animal.
• It can go without water for a very long time.
• It gets the necessary fluids from plants and
dew.
• Unfortunately, their population is decreasing
due to habitat loss.
• Also, they are often hunted for their beautiful
horns.
