What previous studies told us about teens and news ONLINE News is often“too much”
We conducted 12 focus groups in 6 cities and talked to a total of 96 teens. The markets were carefully selected to reflect variety in circulation size and geography. Participants were recruited to reflect the racial and ethnic mix of the market and a mix of ages from 13 to 18. Say something about validity of sample size.
You’d think that teens who don’t want to be overloaded with news would love this page – the shortest of them all with the least text and the most pictures. They didn’t. What’s wrong with it? As they said over and over, “There’s nothing there.” IT doesn’t tell them anything, all by itself. They have to click to get any information.
