1. Technology Assessment #2
Moodle:
Moodle is an approach to Internet-based education for educators as
well as students. I was initially introduced to Moodle a year ago by a
professor that made it a requirement. Initially it was intimidating to
take on a different approach with regards to submitting assignments
as well as retrieving assignments but more so distant learning.
Joining Moodle was far from difficult. It is very user friendly and
there is no need to search for anything because all of what is needed
to access is in the main page. The only downfall I would have to say
would be the formatting when pasting assingments onto the site. Over
all I would rate Moodle a 4/5 with 5 being an excellent technological site
and 1 being a site not worth visiting.
Firefox:
Firefox is my web browser of choice. It has many features that are
beneficial
to a student such as spell checking. What I like about Firefox is that I
have the ability to add on other features that are specific to my Internet
needs. What I have also noticed with firefox is that the speed is a lot
quicker in comparison to other web browsers. The security features
through
experience is far more advanced of better than others, and an example of
that would be a significant decrease in pop ups.
The disadvantages of firefox is that it does not have the ability to resume
a
download if it is interrupted. Firefox also consumes a lot of memory and
the
downfall of that would be at times it would tend to freeze which becomes
inconvenient. Overall I would rate Firefox a 4/5 because it still surpasses
other we browsers.
Delicious:
Delicious is a social bookmarking site. It
gives you the ability to surf through
other bookmarks in the network and save
your websites that you come across.
When I was initially introduced
to this website I was excited. It became
something that I always
2. logged onto and used on a daily basis whether it was
for research or just to store web sites for my
personal use.
The only disadvantage for this website is that
a first time user would have
to play with the website in order to
figure out that there are specific ways to
organize bookmarks. It
took me several tries to get the hang of organizing my
bookmarks.
However, just like social networks you have the ability to add others
to your network so that you would be able to
view and access their bookmarks.
Overall, I would give it a 4/5.
Google Apps:
Google apps consists of an email account, a google calendar, spread
sheet and google documents, and a personal web page. What is very
beneficial with google apps is that you can invite other gmail users to
view and edit documents. It also gives the user the options to do spread
sheets and share them online as well along with other applications such
as
keep tabs of different events and share them with gmail users. What I do
find as a disadvantage with google apps is with the email, once you
delete
something there is no way for you to retrieve it. Overall, I give the google
apps a rating of a 4/5.
Page Flakes:
Page Flakes is a website that you can customize to fit your needs. It has
several
small windows that you would set up. Prior to beginning you would
have to
sign up for an account which will then give you free range access to
be able to construct your page cast, change your theme, and layout as
well. I found this website very beneficial for me because it gives
me free range to produce the website the way I want it. Once you've
created your page flake you are then given the option of making it
your home page which would then allow you to be one click away from
all your
favorite sites. Overall I would rate this it a 5/5. Excellent way of making
3. the
Internet a one stop place.
Prezi
Prezi is an online flash based program that allows you to
create presentations by using a single slide format. What I like
about Prezi is that it allows you to incorporate music, PDF formats,
and images all within one click. For individuals who are power point
users it takes practice to get used to Prezi. What I really like
is that everything is all within the same page. It is definitely a
presentation tool that I would use moving forward. I give this site a
5/5.
Weebly
Weebly is a site where you can create your website. It gives you many
features
that allows you to maximize your potential to create the website that you
want to project. What I like about this particular website is that it
is very user friendly. It is very structured so that you do not
waste time trying to search on what needs to be done next. Overall I
would give this site a 4/5.
