Analyze learners
A   There are a total of 22 students in the 7th grade class that range from 12-13 years of age. The
    students have already received introduction to the creation of Photo Story 3 along with a 2 day
    lesson on the five basic manipulative techniques for understanding how audiences respond to
    videos. Ten of the students are male with one identified as Autistic and the remaining twelve
    are females. There are a mixture of ethnicities within the classroom (8Chamorro’s, 5 Filipinos,
    3 Caucasians, 2 Micronesians, 1 African American, and 3 Koreans).
S                                          State objectives
       1. Given a description of five basic manipulative techniques which will identify the most
          likely audience response for each technique (position of images, sound, text on film,
          video and animation)
       2. Given pre-loaded Photo Story 3 and access to the web based instruction for using Photo
          Story 3, students will create their one to three minute advertisement using 3
          manipulative techniques.
       3. Given a showing of three multimedia ads, students will spot at least six occurrences of
          one or more manipulative techniques and discuss the effectiveness of the techniques.
S                    Selected instructional methods, media, and materials


       1. The teacher explaines the difference between actual content and implied content

       2. Using multimedia examples as necessary, teacher discusses the five manipulative
          techniques and their importance in shaping audience response. (tone, style, and story
          development).

       3. Using Photo Story 3 and applying at least three manipulative techniques, students create
          their own 1- to 3-minute multimedia advertisements for fictitious or real
          products/services.

       4. In an instructor-led group, students watch each others’ advertisements, noting the
          techniques used.

       •   For students with disabilities:
              o pre-built "ad components" (images, text, background music, narration tracks
                  formatted for use with Photo Story 3)
              o instructions for assembling the components into a multimedia ad and applying
                  manipulative techniques.




R                                Require learner participation

    The teacher will introduce the various multimedia ads and explain the five manipulative
    techniques and their importance. Questions will be asked about how effective the
    advertisements were,and was the “implied” information clearly stated across the
    advertisement. Once this has been clearly stated the students will then proceed to do individual
    work on their computer to create their 1-3 minute advertisement that they will show to the
    class.
E                                    Evaluate and Revise
    Evaluation will be made by administering an online quiz, a paper based quiz, and their class
    participation.
