COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING PUNEINTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
Provision of budget is mostly focused on transportation in urban areas of India, but we can’t
achieve maximum success in it.
1. By NCRP report , every minute 14 people died
because of accident.
2. One accident may cause failure of total transportation system
3. Main goal behind developing new transport system is to
reduce accident.
• India need to be built 350-400 km metros in every year which is 20 times more than capacity achievedby India past
decade.
• Other causes:
1. Corruption and Politicalpressure leads to delayin project.
2. GDP is mainlydepend upon transportation system
3. Rapid growth of cities
4. Every minute 30 peoples migrates to urban areas.
5. Pollution, traffic jam, time consumption ,… all ultimatelyimpact on
our economy.
INTELLIGENTTRANSPORTSYSTEM, THEBRAINOF SMARTINDIA
Solution: Mass Rapid Transit
It includes
•Light rail transit
•Ring and radial pattern of road and rail
•Bus rapid transit
•Elevated monorail/ sky bus
•Use of technology like GPS, satellite, Sensors,
strong communicationsystem
Merits:
1. Environmental friendly
2. Enhance social integrity of country
3. Improves usefulness and efficiency of public
transport
4. Improves economy of country
5. Reduce conjunction (Reduces number of
vehicles on road)
6. Time saving and cost effective
7. Requires smaller rights of way

SMART INDIA
Stakeholdersat each step
1. Construction and maintenance – development authority, PWD, Local Bodies,In case of PPP
the private sector for funding and BOT.
2. Protectionof rightof way- development authority, PWD, Local Bodies,In case of PPP the
private sector for funding and BOT, Police.
3. Rehabilitation:Irrigation, development authority, PWD, Local Bodies,In case of PPP the
private sector for funding and BOT.
4. Regulationand control:Indian railways, state transport
5. Control of ribbon development:Ministry of urban development, Ministry of road transport,

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
Impact
The following will be the impacts or advantagesof
Mass Transit.
EnvironmentalImpacts:
Mass transit train is believed to be more
environmental friendly or eco-friendly than other
public transportfacilities. Private vehicles emit about
twice as much carbon monoxide and other volatile
organiccompounds than public vehicles. Mass transit
reduces the number of carson the road which in turn
reduces the pollution caused by individual cars.
Social Impacts of Mass Transit:
All members of the society irrespective of their
financial status, religion or cast are able to travel which
enhances the social integrity of the country. The
necessity of a driving license is also eliminated. It is a
blessing for those individuals who are unable to drive.
INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
Economic Impacts of Mass Transit:
Mass transit can improve the both
usefulness and efficiency of the publictransit
system as well as result in increased business
for commercial developmentsand thus
serves to improve the economy of the
country. Transitsystems also have an indirect
positive effect on other businesses. Mass
transit systems offer considerablesavingsin
labour, materials, and energy over private
transit systems.
Monitoring
Monitoring can be done by:
1. GPS
2. Sensors
3. Connectivity
4. Passenger information system
5. Speed limit violation detection system
INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
Impacts:
Reasonable Capacity:
Also mass transit train will allows a higher
amount of load to be transported to far away
destinations in lesser time because of its
reasonable capacity than private vehicles.
Because of their larger capacity offering them to
carry high efficient engines they also help in
saving fuels.
Employment opportunities:
The Mass transit train project will provide
employment opportunities in India because the
whole labour required for that project will be
from India.
Other Positive Impacts:
Reduces congestion:
The main idea behind mass transit train in India
is to reduce the number of vehicles on the road
by providing a larger facility which carries higher
number of passengers thus eliminating
congestion.
Saves Time:
Mass transit train will reduces the travel time to
a great extent as it moves at high speeds and
stops only at specific spots.
Cost Effective:
Mass transit is comparably cheaper than other
modes of public transport.
INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
Challenges
1. Machineries for
installation
2. Cost of project
3. Political issues- Favour
4. Operation and
maintenance
5.Legal aspects for NOCs
6. Connectivity
7. Location: Geological and
Geographical
8. Power supply and
Backup
INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
High Fares:Rs.140 aside. Will anyone pay such a fare? It’s too much for worker class
who will be the main consumers of this service.
Expensive to import the technology:Too expensive to import the technology and
maintainthe service. India has to pay the huge amount for the import of the
technology as well as has to pay the engineers of china because it have been
decided that the engineering staff will be from China.
Large investment:TheMass TransitTrain project requires a large investmentof
capital. The cost of construction, maintenanceand overhead expenses are very
high as compared to other modes of transport. Moreover, the investmentsare
specific and immobile. In case the traffic is not sufficient, the investmentsmay
mean wastage of huge resources
Noise Pollution:Anotherdisadvantageof the Mass Transit Trainis that it will create
noise pollution inIndia.
RequireHuge Capital:TheMass TransitTrainproject require huge capitaloutlay,
they may give rise to monopoliesand work againstpublic interest at large. Even if
controlledand managed by the government, lack of competitionmay breed in
inefficiency and high costs.

  • 2. Provision of budget is mostly focused on transportation in urban areas of India, but we can’t achieve maximum success in it. 1. By NCRP report , every minute 14 people died because of accident. 2. One accident may cause failure of total transportation system 3. Main goal behind developing new transport system is to reduce accident. • India need to be built 350-400 km metros in every year which is 20 times more than capacity achievedby India past decade. • Other causes: 1. Corruption and Politicalpressure leads to delayin project. 2. GDP is mainlydepend upon transportation system 3. Rapid growth of cities 4. Every minute 30 peoples migrates to urban areas. 5. Pollution, traffic jam, time consumption ,… all ultimatelyimpact on our economy. INTELLIGENTTRANSPORTSYSTEM, THEBRAINOF SMARTINDIA
  • 3. Solution: Mass Rapid Transit It includes •Light rail transit •Ring and radial pattern of road and rail •Bus rapid transit •Elevated monorail/ sky bus •Use of technology like GPS, satellite, Sensors, strong communicationsystem Merits: 1. Environmental friendly 2. Enhance social integrity of country 3. Improves usefulness and efficiency of public transport 4. Improves economy of country 5. Reduce conjunction (Reduces number of vehicles on road) 6. Time saving and cost effective 7. Requires smaller rights of way INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAIN OF SMART INDIA
  • 4. Stakeholdersat each step 1. Construction and maintenance – development authority, PWD, Local Bodies,In case of PPP the private sector for funding and BOT. 2. • 6. Impact The following will be the impacts or advantagesof Mass Transit. EnvironmentalImpacts: Mass transit train is believed to be more environmental friendly or eco-friendly than other public transportfacilities. Private vehicles emit about twice as much carbon monoxide and other volatile organiccompounds than public vehicles. Mass transit reduces the number of carson the road which in turn reduces the pollution caused by individual cars. Social Impacts of Mass Transit: All members of the society irrespective of their financial status, religion or cast are able to travel which enhances the social integrity of the country. The necessity of a driving license is also eliminated. It is a blessing for those individuals who are unable to drive. INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA Economic Impacts of Mass Transit: Mass transit can improve the both usefulness and efficiency of the publictransit system as well as result in increased business for commercial developmentsand thus serves to improve the economy of the country. Transitsystems also have an indirect positive effect on other businesses. Mass transit systems offer considerablesavingsin labour, materials, and energy over private transit systems.
  • 7. Monitoring Monitoring can be done by: 1. GPS 2. Sensors 3. Connectivity 4. Passenger information system 5. Speed limit violation detection system INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
  • 8. Impacts: Reasonable Capacity: Also mass transit train will allows a higher amount of load to be transported to far away destinations in lesser time because of its reasonable capacity than private vehicles. Because of their larger capacity offering them to carry high efficient engines they also help in saving fuels. Employment opportunities: The Mass transit train project will provide employment opportunities in India because the whole labour required for that project will be from India. Other Positive Impacts: Reduces congestion: The main idea behind mass transit train in India is to reduce the number of vehicles on the road by providing a larger facility which carries higher number of passengers thus eliminating congestion. Saves Time: Mass transit train will reduces the travel time to a great extent as it moves at high speeds and stops only at specific spots. Cost Effective: Mass transit is comparably cheaper than other modes of public transport. INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA
  • 9. Challenges 1. Machineries for installation 2. Cost of project 3. Political issues- Favour 4. Operation and maintenance 5.Legal aspects for NOCs 6. Connectivity 7. Location: Geological and Geographical 8. Power supply and Backup INTELLIGENT TRANSPORT SYSTEM, THE BRAINOF SMART INDIA High Fares:Rs.140 aside. Will anyone pay such a fare? It’s too much for worker class who will be the main consumers of this service. Expensive to import the technology:Too expensive to import the technology and maintainthe service. India has to pay the huge amount for the import of the technology as well as has to pay the engineers of china because it have been decided that the engineering staff will be from China. Large investment:TheMass TransitTrain project requires a large investmentof capital. The cost of construction, maintenanceand overhead expenses are very high as compared to other modes of transport. Moreover, the investmentsare specific and immobile. In case the traffic is not sufficient, the investmentsmay mean wastage of huge resources Noise Pollution:Anotherdisadvantageof the Mass Transit Trainis that it will create noise pollution inIndia. RequireHuge Capital:TheMass TransitTrainproject require huge capitaloutlay, they may give rise to monopoliesand work againstpublic interest at large. Even if controlledand managed by the government, lack of competitionmay breed in inefficiency and high costs.
