Welcome to our presentation today here at Riordan Manufacturing. We will be covering service request SR-rm-012 which requests a summary of all the existing business systems and the modifications required to ensure those business systems are efficient and profitable.
As an introduction to our presentation we would like to introduce you to Riordan Manufacturing, the leading globalized plastics manufacturer with a zest for innovative technology. Riordan is comprised of four locations worldwide including our home office in San Jose, California all the way to our production plant in Hangzhou, China. The business systems of Riordan Manufacturing include Finance and Accounting, Human Resources and Legal, Sales and Marketing, and Operations which each include their own unique applications and sub-systems.
Riordan Manufacturing’s business objectives fall into one of four distinct categories. The company is working to standardize the business systems at each location and unify the collection of all data. Ultimately, this will reduce costs in extensive compilation and increase Riordan Manufacturing’s growth as well as profits. Riordan Manufacturing also believes in reinvestment in future innovation and is working to expand the possibilities of custom injection molding and plastics.Riordan Manufacturing has annual revenues totaling over $1 billion dollars and employs 550 people World-wide. The company’s collection annual earnings top $46 million and Riordan is a Fortune 1000 Company.
Riordan Manufacturing’s company mission centers upon excellence. The company’s focus includes maintaining Six Sigma, exceeding ISO 900 standards, and cultivating leading-edge research and development. Secondly, Riordan will focus on customer relationships and management that will provide marketing and sales benefits. The company’s employees will be engaged in a team environment that is focused on a viable standards that not only complement the company’s goals but the goals of individual employees. Riordan Manufacturing is also dedicated to the future and innovation of the plastics industry to ensure the company achieves desired profits and continued growth. Riordan manufactures a wide variety of products, many of which are profit centers with further development and investment in advertising. Riordan is committed to investing in the innovation and exploration of polymer plastics and it’s application and has designed to expand the field of plastics.
Riordan Manufacturing’s current end-user environment is overly complicated. Each location utilizes different systems which are then compiled at the corporate office. With a diverse set of professionals in Riordan’s employment and with the use of independent systems, additional employee training is required. The IT department must also work with a variety of hardware suppliers and this creates a less-efficient business system. In the future, Riordan will unify their software systems into a enterprise corporate-wide database program. This will allow for simplified training and require a less advanced employee skill set which will lower salary and hourly rates. With the consolidation of hardware suppliers, Riordan can expect to save funds through rebates for large-quantity orders. Riordan will also create and make use of a corporate communication instant messaging system to enable real-time communications between locations.
The finance and accounting business systems include all the financial, budge, and purchasing information regarding Riordan Manufacturing. Included in the Finance and Accounting sub-systems is the corporate balance sheet, income statement, inventory reports, budgets, chart of accounts, and accounting procedures that must all be taken into consideration when compiling financial data and making decisions. The financial and accounting systems effect every other department business system in the company in some manner by determining the monetary availability for any function. Currently, the financial systems are disconnected from location to location, but this project will remedy that problem. We will truly embrace the age of connectivity.
Riordan Manufacturing’s Human Resources and Legal departments include business systems to regulate worker and management process and establish company behavioral standards. The sub-systems that fall in the preview of the Human Resources department include job classifications and descriptions, policies, procedures, and maintaining the corporate organizational chart. The Legal department works with Human Resources to ensure legal compliances.In the future, Human Resources will also work to establish a Human Capital Management system in place with the assistance of the Finance and Accounting department. Human Resources assists in the hiring and termination process for all departments and interacts with the Finance and Accounting department regarding employee budgeting. The Legal department regulates all department polices and, with Human Resources, coordinates employee compliance.
Riordan Manufacturing’s Sales and Marketing business systems provide current sales figures, strategic objectives and provides various market data which is then incorporated into the existing systems. The Sales and Marketing department includes several sub-systems including sales planning and budget monitoring. As the Sales and Marketing business systems are improved, the utilization of customer relationship management software will be used to help conduct market surveys and communicate with potential and past clients to gain insight. The Sales and Marketing department also interacts broadly with every business systems company wide. It provides employee statistical data for Finance and Accounting to compile and gauge employee value. Sales and marketing interacts depends upon the Operations department to maintain stock and coordinate shipping.
The Operations business systems at Riordan Manufacturing focus on the specific procedures and general practices throughout the corporation including inventory and shipping responsibilities. Riordan’s Operations sub-systems account for Supply Chain Overview reporting and includes corporate forms for purchase requests. The Operations department could be called the centralized backbone of the company.Operations business systems provide a wide variety of statistical data to the Finance and Accounting department for use within their internal systems. The Human Resources business systems interact with Operations regarding employee data. Operations relies upon Human Resources to maintain their compliance and union agreements where applicable.
The IT Security requirements for Riordan Manufacturing are quite important given the vast amount of data that will be collected in the corporate enterprise database. This information will include personal data, protect transaction information as well as provide inventory loss control and monitor and control user-access to systems. The IT department will also maintain anti-virus and firewall settings corporate wide.The information systems can be broken down into four concentrated areas: security policy, employee training and monitoring, technical support, and database maintenance. Each of these systems will be dependent upon the other business systems and their needs throughout the company.
Riordan Manufacturing is singularly driven for innovation and growth and in order to accomplish these goals the company will need to initiate and apply IT systems, develop a unified enterprise corporate database system and software application. Next the Human Resources and Legal systems will be integrated into the new corporate system followed by the Sales and Marketing and Operations systems to form a corporate-wide network of business systems.As a result, Riordan manufacturing anticipates increased and more efficient production, real-time corporate communication and compilation of data and increase in several sectors of profitability.
In conclusion, Riordan Manufacturing will initiate a security policy and business systems. The IT department will author and install a enterprise, corporate-wide database and software applications which will help to consolidate the data received from all departments. Improvements will also include a corporate instant messaging system to increase real-time communications between branches increasing overall efficiency and profitability at each location.
