Research tells us that engaging in meaningful experiences helps learning “stick.” As educators, how do we provide technology rich, creative, collaborative, problem solving opportunities for our students? We are already experts in our content areas and we must add NETS to our ever-growing list of standards and teaching responsibilities. No worries, it is easier than you think! Let’s take a quick look at how the TPACK framework will help us understand our role as teachers in a growing world of technology. Then, learn how to use readily available tools and some of the Internet’s vast resources to create significant learning opportunities for your students.
In this presentation, which was originally given at the Maastricht Week of Global Entrepreneurship in 2014, you will hear the story of how pivoting can lead you in new directions.
First, when you begin to think of creating your own startup or small business, you will want to find what dissatisfies you. For me, that was access to learning computer programming for all children. Through hosting workshops for kids in coding, I learned from parents and teachers that they, too, wanted to know more about technology, but didn't know where to get started. That's when I decided to test out a new idea, which was a workshop series for adults to learn computer programming in an easy and non-threatening way.
Coding and Cocktails is now looking to expand to other cities throughout the world in order to teach HTML and CSS in fun-filled workshop settings. If you're interested in working with us, please email me!

This workshop aims to demonstrate what has been a successful model for teacher leadership of the Digital Education Revolution in secondary schools. Through informal discussion and demonstration of specific software and Web 2.0 applications, participants will be introduced to a variety of strategies that have been used to overcome barriers to success that confront teachers.
The aim of this presentation is to facilitate discussion and provide participants with a toolbox of strategies to bring about a 21st Century shift in pedagogy, learning styles and learning environments. Both presenters are leaders of DER within their schools and have collaborated on a number of inter-school projects promoting the innovative integration of technology into the 21st century classroom.

This presentation was delivered to the IT manages of the school districts of New Brunswick. It complimented a white paper and was developed for them to drive further consensus across their stakeholders of administration, educators, students and parents.
This presentation looks at the generation of students in our K-12 schools today. The focus needs to be on the students in our classes without stereotyping students as digital natives. The focus also needs to be on relationships and not on technology. The presentation was delivered on Dec. 8, 2011 to the Newfoundland Labrador Association of Directors of Education (NLADE).
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Industry is telling us that they need problem solvers who KNOW how to use and produce with technology. Are we preparing them for the world of tomorrow?
Show video – without verbal comments
Given the global nature of economy and industry, educators must teach our children to think and creatively solve problems with the intention that youth are prepared for innovation and the advancement of society. Necessity dictates that we cultivate the development of creative, skilled, life long learners.Whether physical or online, students who actively engage with content take responsibility for their own learning.Teachers who are well versed in technology, pedagogy and content no longer ask themselves “How do I use this technology?” Research recommends that teachers ask, "Why do I want to use this technology?“Preparing students for jobs that currently do not exist. They must work in a global economy. The framework for 21st century learning, America says that WE are falling short. Our students need to become problem solvers – to date we have been falling short….
